Hi there! First post on here, I think - hope it makes sense (not my primary language) 1. My current Wi-Fi setup is a Google Nest (GN) with one GN router, and two GN Wi-Fi points. Short story long, since I have copper cables (reeeaaallyy slow) and not fiber, I would really like to connect a sim modem to the GN wifi, so I don’t use the copper cables in the streets, but have a 4G connection and sent that through the GN wifi points. Do I “just” connect the sim modem to the wall via Ethernet, and then connect my modem to the GN router, or how would I do this? 2. Another question - would it be possible to connect a local NAS-server, fx. A Synology NAS, to either the sim modem or the GN router? If possible, could I have the server automatically take backups of computers (primarily MacBooks, but also Windows machines), every week or so, when connected to the Wi-Fi? In advance, thank you very much! Best regards, Sebastian

I am facing this issue since months where my wifi will randomly stop working unless I restart the router, and when this happens the wired connection (Desktop) works fine. I have about 5 devices connected at any given time (4 smartphones all times, and either a PS4 or a laptop). All devices will stay connected to wifi but cannot browse and sometimes the connection drops too, giving an "Incorrect password for XYZ" on my iPhone, "Obtaining IP address..." on Android devices, and "Cannot connect to this network" on Windows laptops. I got my router in March 2019. Router: DLink DIR-816 Router has a patcher cable going in the WAN port from a device (I dunno what that is, can provide images) that ISP installed when replacing my line with a fibre line. That device has another cable going in from a second device (again unknown, can provide images) which has the main ISP's cable plugged in. ISP's cable come in from a (I think unmanaged) switch. Laptops: Lenovo Ideapad 320S, Lenovo Ideapad S145 (both on latest Windows 10 Pro) Phones: Two iPhone XR, iPhone 7, Oppo Reno Z 2 (All devices updated) Desktop: Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H110M-S2 (latest BIOS) PSU: Antec Earthwatts Gold Pro 750W 80+ Gold OS: Windows 10 Pro (Updated) Will buying a higher end router help? Thanks in advance guys.

I have an issue where I can't even turn on the Wi-fi.. it olny offers me a choice between manually turning it on or an automatic detection after 1/2/3/4h (automatic options do not work) When I restart my PC the Wi-fi icon is interactive and after I press it, it turns darker and nothing happens (attached picture) I have no way of connecting to a wired connection. I've explored many forums and nothing seems to work. Am I stupid?

Hey there, I have a Lenovo laptop in which the wifi was working fine, then one day the wifi option just disappeared from my laptop. I checked device manager, and network in control panel the Wifi adapter and option was missing. It doesn't show up in windows 10 network settings, only ethernet is seen as available. Here are some of things I tried: 1. Go to device manager scan for hardware changes - it didn't detect the wifi card. 2. Go to Lenovo support website and download latest wifi network drivers, installed - nothing changed 3. Physically checked if the wifi card/adapter was connected well to the laptop motherboard - it was connected fine. 4. Go via BIOS to do system components diagnostic - This option seemed to be the best as I'd seen it produce good result for my problem, but my Lenovo laptop didn't have that option, I was only able to get into the BIOS, and the windows troubleshooting screen, not to the diagnostic page which id seen (granted that was for an HP laptop) OS: Windows 10 Laptop company: Lenovo Please do help me out with this problem as soon you can, I'd really appreciate it

So, last week I finished setting up my office internet with Spectrum. Currently it is running on an Arris Modem/Router combo, which I know is garbage and I'm planning on replacing it anyway. However, the main problem is the title. Out of the 5 computers connected to the network, my laptop, a Dell Inspiron 15-7577, is the only computer with problems accessing the internet, regardless of being connected through 5G wifi, or ethernet through the phone system. To summarize what is happening is that I can connect to the wifi and have connection for up to 5 minutes at a time, before losing internet access, yet still being connected to the 5G network. Same issue through ethernet, but 5G seems more stable than ethernet, which also doesn't make sense to me. I have tried renewing my ip address (cmd, ipconfig /renew) which didn't help with resolving the problem. I have narrowed the problem down to something with my computer, as the router, while pretty trash, doesn't seem to give the other computers problems. I have included a CMD log that spans some 10-20 minutes ish of me pinging 8.8.8.8 Edit: Just noticed that if I disconnect and reconnect from the wifi after losing internet access, I regain internet access. cmdlog.txt

> I have a perfectly working Wi-Fi USB Adapter with latest driver installed. I can connect to any Wi-Fi network using the Windows GUI i.e. clicking on "Network" icon on the "Task Bar" & selecting a Wi-Fi network. > But I want to connect to a Wi-Fi network using the "Command Prompt". I have tried almost all the "netsh wlan" commands while running the Command Prompt with Administrative Privilege. > So here is a scenario, I have 3 available Wi-Fi networks (SSIDs) & i want to connect to only one of them. None of these Wi-Fi networks have never been saved or connected to before my PC before. So my assumption is that there are no Saved Profiles. > FYI; I know the SSID, Password, MAC Address etc of each & every one of these available Wi-Fi networks as they are all my own. >> Please tell me a simple command to connect to a specific Wi-Fi network from a number of available ones.

I'm looking for a PCI wifi card with a signal strength as strong as the Samsung Galaxy S6 (weird comparison most likely, I don't have experience in wifi). My parents are unplugging the Ethernet cable that leads from the main building out to my hut so I can't use my PC. I'm located around 15m away from the router and the signal passes through two wooden walls. From my room I can use my Galaxy S6 on our wifi with transfer speeds enough for 1080p youtube streaming but not my PC, so I'm looking to buy a wifi card to bypass their restriction and be able to use my PC. My previous PC had a cheap PCI card from china (~$12) that couldn't connect or detect our wifi from my room so I'm looking to get a decent one that's as powerful as the one in the Galaxy S6. Transfer speeds aren't particularly important, getting around 20Mb/s download would be sweet to watch youtube but I could deal with as little as 1Mb/s and just play some Counterstrike. If anyone knows of a card that can reach the signal or knows for what to look for while searching for one please leave a comment. The wifi router is an ASUS RT-N56U

Hello. I am planning on using the MSI - B250M PRO-VD Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard for my gaming PC build. I have heard that using the onboard sound card might result in receiving electrical interference, but MSI advertises the motherboard with good aound quality. I generally use a pair of audio technica m40x headphones so I was wondering if i might be affected by the interference(by the way I only use the headphones for gaming or plain media consumption). While i'm on the topic, does this motherboard come with onboard wifi or will i have to purchase an onbard pcie wifi adapter? Thanks in advance for all of your help.

About one-and-a-half week ago I stumbled across this section of the Asus homepage which shows an updated version of the very popular Crosshair VI X370 motherboard; now with pre-added Wi-Fi/Bluetooth capabilities. As many owners of the Crosshair VI have noticed, there were already indicators where the antenna-holes in the backplate were to be located, and the mobo had a hidden M.2 slot for the wireless module beneath the rear I/O-shield. So really, it was just a question of WHEN Asus would bring the complete version to market. Other than the added wireless-module, the mobo is identical to the current version. Interested in this board, I started searching the Internet and Asus webpage for possible stores to buy it from. But there were none to be found. So to still my hunger for this "complete version" of the mobo, I sent an e-mail to Asus asking them when and where I could buy the new version: They replied somewhat fast and here is the message that pretty much confirms that it will launch very soon: So there you have it! I thought I'd share this so if anyone was thinking of getting this board with an additional Wi-Fi-PCI-e module, you might just wait a few weeks until this baby hits the stores! P.s. I am not sure if I am breaking any laws/rules by posting and sharing this information. If it is against rules, then please notify me and delete this post. My intention has not been to break any laws or rules, but to share knowledge for the common good of consumers around the world.

I have my PC in my room about 4,5 - 5 m away from the router. There is absolutely no way I could connect the PC via Ethernet (house architecture doens't help much) so I'm stuck on Wi-Fi. Since that's the case, can anyone recommend a good hardware solution for the receptor that is reliable and works fine (currently own a USB antenna and 10 mpbs download speed). Thanks in advance!

Hello, everyone. I'm part of my faculty's student union and I'm looking for ways to improve our Wi-Fi network because it is horrible. It consists of many wireless networks, originating from different "wireless routers", and there are even places without any coverage. I suspect they are even interfering. The building is 85m by 20m and is 6 storeys high. The construction is brick and concrete and there are a lot of walls on every floor. Half of the lowest floor is underground and there are a couple of half-floors between the top two. Peek load of the wireless network would be 2000 people or slightly less (mostly uniformly distributed). I was looking into Ubiquiti APs and think HD or EDU(if we find a use for the PA) would be best. Walking around the building without disconnections is desirable. What would you consider being the best for our case (number and model of APs)? I'm open for every suggestion and would greatly appreciate any help. Excuse my paint skills, but that is roughly what the floor composition looks like.

Hello, I am looking to place a wireless bridge between two houses, but the problem is that there is no straight view between the two house because of trees. Also, the two houses are not on the same level. One is slightly higher than the other. The best example of what I am looking for is this video from LTT. Here is the information I can give. -The distance is between 1 and 2 km. -It's right inside a Canadian forest. So there is a lot of threes. -No direct view between the two houses. -A budget of 400$ can. Discloser: I am a programmer, I do not know anything about networking. Maybe it is not possible.

Hey, I moved into a new place and the last family has an automatic system, that turned off internet after 10PM there is a wi-fi in the building I can kind of use, but I don't have a wi-fi card in my gaming desktop. Tethering over my phone causes huge ping, so I was thinking about using my work computer (it's a Mac for compatibility reasons, rest of office uses osx) to connect by ethernet (thus eliminating the horrible ping) and practically using it as a wi-fi card. Not looking for necessarily long term solution, since some guy is gonna change it soon( i cant, since it's in the server room for all the apartments). Thanks in advance.

Hi All, Was wondering if anyone could tell me if it's possible/how to add the "Mobile Hotspot" function in Windows 10 to the Quick Actions tray? I have a Dell XPS 15 9550 with Windows 10 Home and I can't figure out how to add it, a friend has a Microsoft Surface Book with Windows 10 Pro and theirs has that feature on the Quick Actions tray. Thanks!

I have a MSI Gaming AMD Ryzen B350 DDR4 VR Ready HDMI USB 3 CFX micro-ATX Motherboard (B350M GAMING PRO) and was wondering how I could supply Wi-Fi connection to my pc because I can't use Ethernet due to length issues from the router to my pc. Does this motherboard come with it already or do I need to buy an adapter of some sort?

Hi guys I've got some weird problems with wireless network. Important-to-know hardware is as follows: ASUS AC-87U router, PCE-AC66 network card, old apple devices, a samsung s8 and a meizu mx4. So, how it goes. The router is about half a year old, just as s8, all other devices match their production date (mac '12, ipad2, several iphones; meizu mx4 is end of 2014 as you most likely have no idea what that is) Router (all the firmware is up-to-date, tried keeping it off for up to a day) gives off 2.4 GHz and 5GHz signals. All apple devices, although lacking the detection range and effective speed, can see and use both networks granted they're close enough. Meizu MX4 (serves as a transitional testing device in this case) instantly connects to a 5GHz signal, getting strong RX/TX rates (don't really know which is which), this can also be seen by its network speeds. Now we're getting to the problem. PC never saw the 5GHz signal since i got the new router. I figured it's the distance (even though MX4 gets strong reception in the same spot, and PCE-AC66 has 3 freaking full-sized antennas), but a week ago i was finally able to connect, also getting a strong signal. 2 days ago, however, i got up, woke up the machine, and saw that the 5GHz signal has disappeared, leaving me with the boring 2.4GHz. Nothing relevant to the situation has been changed in any way (MX4 still sees it perfectly). Now, the s8 became my main device just a few days ago as it has been used in a different place and i never really needed to check if it was ok with ac signals. And as it turns out, it can't see the 5GHz either, even when its really close to the router! Note that I didn't get the chance to test it in different places with ac yet though. This is where you - the community - comes in. I'm fine with the s8 being on a 2.4GHz (although it would be nice to have it on a faster network), but I really really want to use the 5GHz on my PC. Please help. P.S. I try to keep all the devices off of the 5GHz network to have the least interference when trying to get a signal on a PC. Sorry if there are any mistakes, my language doesn't even use latin alphabet. Edit: If anyone has the similar problem - it turns out, i shoud've played with the selected channel from the start as it seems not all devices can see all chanels. Sorry for being dumb. Admin, you can delete this post.

I'm a newcomer to the world of 802.11ac wifi, previously I was using a OpenWRT 802.11n router but it only supports 2.4G, so eventually I had to change it. Now, my new router is a TP-LINK one, and it advertises a 1750 mbps speed. I know that kind of speed is not possible, as my laptops are reporting 866.7 mbps, but it's still not even close. Running an IPERF test, from one laptop to another, yields about 90 mbps and 140 mbps, I have no idea why I'm having different speed from different sides but that's not the point, the point is even 2x the aforementioned speed, the total bandwidth is 280 mbps max, still way slower than 866.7 mbps! I tried everything, I ensured the firmware of the router is the latest, I changed the adaptor settings according to many sources from the Internet, and updated all relevant drivers, this has minimal effect. What else might be the problem? Please educate me on this... I'm considering returning the router to be honest... Thanks a lot.

Keep using the WPA2 protocol for your networks. Update all your devices and operating systems to the latest versions. Changing your passwords won't help. Know that a KRACK is mostly a local vulnerability -- attackers need to be within the range of a wireless network. Taken from cnet

Hello. I am currently pricing out my first gaming PC build and I won't be able to connect my PC to the internet with a wired connection. I found a pcie adapter which has ac wifi( my router is also ac wifi compatible). Anyway, my PC will be upstairs in a room that is directly above my router. I've used this speed test from speedtest.net on my phone and laptop while in the upstairs room and received these results: 1) 51.88 mbps download, 47.69mbps upload, and 3ms latency 2) 75.04 download, 47.27 upload, and 3ms latency. I don't remember which is the phone and which is the laptop but, I figured this could be helpful in determining whether or not my wifi would be suitable for pc gaming. I would like your opinion on whether or not these results mean that the wifi is good enough for gaming or not and whether or not this test was a good one and if there a better methods of testing my wifi. PCIE adapter: Gigabyte - GC-WB867D-I PCI-Express x1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi Adapter Thanks for your help!
