One night I left my brand new Alienware 13 R3 open on my desk and my cat decided it would be a fantastic idea to run across the keyboard. This resulted in the destruction of the 'B' key, and the breaking of the plastic hinge underneath the key. This is more of a design flaw of keyboards with completely adjacent keys than anything actually wrong with this particular laptop. I would have replaced the keyboard myself, but you cannot buy the Alienware 13 R3 keyboard. Which is really super dumb because of how easy it is to replace according to the manual (this is important, later) So far: -Called Dell Support, which doesn't actually give you preset options in their automated phone line, so you have to guess what you have to say to get to where you need to go (dumb, dumb, dumb) Save yourself the headache and say "Alienware Warranty" if you encounter my problem. 1/5 on the phone system. -Was quickly matched with a real person, who was nice enough. He wanted my service tag which I gave him, and he wanted me to email him picture of the damages. (below) -He ascertained that it falls into "accidental damages" and was not covered by the warranty. I was prepared for this (was not surprised). He also ascertained that a total keyboard replacement would need to happen, and I would need to send it in. No licensed Alienware in-home technicians for me... 1/5. Why would you get rid of Alienware technicians? -Total cost $161.39 US dollars including shipping, labor, and the replacement part. 2/5. Definitely overpriced. -Box took two business days to arrive. Dell's packaging to send it in was "Meh" compared to my experiences with HP support. -Shipped the notebook to them on Monday, it arrived on Friday (no fancy shipping, the return label is FedEx 3-5 day ground shipping.) -They didn't log it in until the following Monday, even though it arrived to them on Friday morning early. 2/5. Come on Dell... -They began repairs on Tuesday of this past week. Sending me an e-mail every day afterwards that "Repairs are underway." -It is now Saturday, the 29th as I write this. It has technically been six business days that they've had my notebook, four business days that they've been repairing it. Overall, I would give Dell Support a TWO out of FIVE. The notebook itself to me is a FIVE out of FIVE all day... but the support is terrible. It should not take this long to repair a broken B key, which would have been technically repairable by MYSELF using two methods: A total keyboard replacement, as Dell has opted for. Or a hinge replacement, which looks simple enough if I had the parts... The keycap itself is fine, as is the rubber dome. All in all. The sudden decision to not sell keyboards and other replacement parts to end users is a huge screw up. As late as the Alienware 13 R2 you have been able to buy replacement parts and do the work yourself. The R3 is no different in the fact that it is incredibly easy to take apart and repair. I could do a keyboard replacement in 30 minutes easily. (The freaking service manual that comes with the Alienware 13 R3 even tells you how to specifically replace the keyboard yourself) Will update once I finally receive the notebook back... I've heard horror stories of Dell Support sending people back notebooks that are "fixed" but are covered in scratches and stuff from careless technicians. Or even improperly fixed. I'm very anxious.

Hey guys, I recently bought a hard drive. It worked for a few days but then it started clicking and after rebooting my pc it showed up as "unknown, not initialized" in drive manager. Now I'm trying to send it back but I have some questions: Is wrapped up news paper a good substitute to those fancy bags of air? Can I re-use anti static bags which are non-resealable and close them with tape?

This post was taken from Facebook group Asus ROG Users Philippines and posted in public by Jam captioned, that time when you Fight because you think you are better on the product, but your fighting with the Country Product manager, So gold. UPDATE: The story post has been taken down from the Asus ROG Users Philippines The story goes from Raymond that he bought the laptop from Benstore whereas the warranty is covered from Benstore itself. as not an authorized reseller from ASUS, but the game does not end there, the product's warranty is not accepted because of the company benstore is not a part of the authorized resellers, that causes frank, confusion, and embarrassment. In this statement from Joey , the product manager of Asus Philippines states that Asus has the right to refuse any warranty that was not an authorized re-seller from the company, however Raymond's statement and defends that benstore is also a part of an authorized re-seller . in short term you buy the product from an unknown or local store that the store bought from a e commerce website that means the one who bought the product from e commerce will be under the warranty on the buyer itself including invoice/recipt, Once the person sells that product to you and you purchased the product meaning it's under the person's warranty not the e commerce. Stating that The company that is not included on the list is an unauthorized re-seller of Asus ROG philippines . Full list of Resellers -> bit.ly/ROGStronghold Last is the 2 people involved did not know that they are talking to a product manager and later the comments became retarded until the proof was real that the 2 people involved were silent never replied to the event. source: http://www.phtrending.com/2017/07/never-go-full-retard-this-is-what.html http://www.phtrending.com/2017/07/never-go-full-retard-this-is-what.html From Asus ROG Philippines according to their statement from their facebook fan page. source:

dear all i want to discuss this topic and would love if linus cover in future videos. i personally suffered many times from bad customer service. i recently bought a MSI laptop and i got small issue with the keyboard and they refuse to look at the laptop until i pay certain amount of money since i am asking for the warranty service in another country. then i thought why do they have 1 year global warranty if they want me to pay around 70$ for a 2-3 $ issue with one key in the keybaord. so i send them email and here is the reply: funny they want me to send the unit to US while i am doing my research since i am doing my PHD and now post doctorate. what do you think about this?? am i wrong in feeling that i got scammed that they should cover for warranty without any fees ???

Hey everybody, so i'm thinking about buying the new i5-7600k (for a build i'm going to be making soon, now i have a core 2 duo e8400) I can get the boxed version for €278.90 or the tray version for €268.10 now my questions are: -If I overclock my CPU, will it void the warranty? -Can i better buy the boxed version or the tray? I know there is already one topic about this on the site, but i don't really understand what i should do. thanks for your help!

Just bought 2 EVGA 1070 ACX 3.0 Black-Editions, only to realize there is now a warranty void sticker on one of the heatsink screws for each GPU. I'm assuming I can no longer watercool them without voiding warranty? My Last 2 980ti's for my other build didn't have the stickers.

Out of all the mice I've ever owned, all the Razers, the Logitechs, the Microsofts, the Logicools. THIS is the most bizarre failure I've ever seen. I can understand the switch breaking, or the laser ending it's life, or a whole host of other things, but never has the PLASTIC failed me on a mouse! I'm not complaining (even though I'm only a week outside of warranty lol) I'm just amused! I've sent through a support message to Razer, hopefully they pity me and help me out. I want to know if you've got any other horror stories or wacky mouse failures you managed to capture in pictures or videos? Chuck em this way!

Basically I was having issues with my pc so I contacted amd and they told me to show them the CPU. When I took the Cooler out, the CPU was glued to it through the thermal paste and so when I took it out, the CPU came out with the cooler. I saw that the pins were bent on the CPU and one was completely broken off. Can I claim a warranty replacement because I couldn't have predicted this was going to happen and I was having issues with the CPU anyway?

So, the monitor comes with a swivel mount. It's really nice actually. Honestly, the screen has been practically amazing up until this point. Bought like six months ago and definitely still under the 3 year warranty. Then, when swiveling, the base station disassembled, and the display fell and partially broke one side. Originally, I thought I caught the display in time and did not damage it. Upon further inspection, the screws for most of the base station were barely in. Maybe and 1/8-1/4 in. Some of these required to be deep in order to hold the display to the swivel. Two screws even fell out when this happened. So, thinking the display wasn't damaged, I spent half an hour, took apart the base station, and put it all back together properly. Put the display back on and everything mechanically seemed to be working as it should. Then, after turning on the display. the right side was entirely messed up. I thought, no worries. This is what warranties are for. Gave Acer a call. 2 hours later, they decided that I need to pay $500 for a repair in which was caused by their faulty put together stand. I am completely dumbfounded. After leaving a negative review, corporate contacted me and said it would only be $350. I should sent it to a repair center and if they determine the base was bad (which it is isn't because I fixed it) they would cover the charge. I have never had such a bad customer service experience in my life. Be careful buying Acer products. They don't stand by their warranties and will try and charge you whatever they can. Just a warning. Thanks for listening. Attached is the scree image and the scratches caused from the base falling off as well as the swivel screws that are screwed in now, but were barely in. Thanks, Kevin

Yeah.... the article is in french... but it's happening in Quebec, so what did you expect?.. Basically, the Quebec Superior Court authorized a class action against Apple. The people who started the procedure evoked (among other things) planned obsolescence and unfair warranty service, which is expensive and has no benefits over the base legal warranty in Quebec. Google translate actually did a pretty got job in making it readable in English, so you can give it a try: https://ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/1226174/cour-superieure-quebec-autorise-action-collective-apple?fbclid=IwAR2nfP3YoDULxddJfsPmzzwjo31kKmexGnmpLyMQqeTxyCCe6ZwTt05t4Ug Radio-Canada is the name of the news network affiliated to CBC in Quebec. CBC is the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Canada's national public broadcaster. EDIT : English translation here: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1083743-quebec-superior-court-authorizes-class-action-against-apple/?tab=comments#comment-12730172 Thanks to @wkdpaul for providing a translation of the article.

I bought my MSI GS65 last December and I registered the product. Last Thursday a friend spilled coffee all over my keyboard and I thought that I was done for. After doing a little research I found about the Accidental Damage Coverage from MSI. I called MSI and apparently I do apply for the warranty, they gave me an RMA numer and I'm sending it as soon as I can. Has anyone had any experience with the accidental damage coverage from MSI? Did you have to pay anything? I'm just wondering if this is too good to be true, I can't believe that MSI covers for accidents like these...

Hi all, my sister lives in the UK and wants to buy a computer and monitor. I don't live in the UK so unfortunately I can't build a PC for her. She doesn't feel comfortable building it herself and lives in the countryside (far away from cities). I find the shops in the UK (Curry's, Argos, Amazon, etc.) to be quite limited in the products they sell. The products are also quite expensive and out-dated compared to stuff that's available in mainland Europe and in the US. Dell & HP seem like the only options at the moment, since she wants reasonable after-sales support and warranty and doesn't want outdated hardware. She likes Apple but doesn't want to pay over £700 for a desktop & monitor / AIO. She's going to be using the computer for browsing & light video editing and for data analysis (R & Python, though TensorFlow and such won't be required). Build: I've recommended a Ryzen 5 2600 (H, maybe) or an 8th gen i5, external GPU is optional, SSD, at least 8 GB of RAM. Monitor - VA/IPS, 21" or above, 1080p is fine. Response time & frame rate don't matter. High colour accuracy would be nice, but low cost is nicer. TLDR: Where can she get a decent recent pre-built desktop & monitor for a reasonable price in the UK with good warranty & support (longer = better).

Hi all, I am wanting to try out PBO and AutoOC on my 3970x using the Aorus Master TRX40 to see how much faster it is, but if I don't see any noticeable improvements I will disable it. Will enabling it for 5 minutes void my warranty forever, or is it only void if I damage my processor WHILE having PBO enabled? I would hate to use it for 5 minutes and disable it, only to find out my warranty is gone even though I don't use it at all afterwards!

Hello, I just compared the price of processor in India and USA on amazon. There is a huge difference. The US one is cheaper even if I add the shipping cost by amazon. For eg. Ryzen 5 3600 costs 16500 INR (i.e. 223 USD) on Amazon.in while it costs $174 + $9(for shipping) = 183 USD on amazon.com. Saving $40 is a LOT on budget CPUs like this. I found similar trends on most components and peripherals. Can I buy these items on amazon.com and get them shipped here to build my own PC or am I missing something? If I can buy, please help me list out the pros and cons that I might be facing with the build in future. Also, how easy is it to get warranty services on such products? Thanks in advance.

Hello guys, I bought a 1070ti Strix about two years ago and I've had a great experience with it so far. The stock thermal paste is starting to worsen significantly now though, the graphics card is running about 7-8 degrees hotter now than it did when it was new. I was wondering if the do not remove sticker on the Heatsink screws actually does anything in the EU as I've heard it's useless in some countries and you keep your warranty coverage. Also, could you confirm whether the coldplate on the 1070TI Strix heatsink is nickel-plated? I've heard they basically slapped the 1080Ti Strix cooler on the 1070Ti. I'm planning on swapping the stock TIM with conductonaut which is why I want to make sure it won't eat away at the heatsink. Regards

Sorry in advance as this is my first post and I've only been a lurker on this forum for some time. I also have no idea if this is the right section so again I'm sorry. Basically my post is about Samsung support or lack of it I could say. I purchased a Galaxy Note 8 when it was reasonably new due to being highly recommended by many people including Linus himself. I've always taken great care of my device and recently I had a problem with my device regarding severe lag and speed performances greatly reduced. Stutters when unlocking device or switching apps or something as common as pressing the lock button just to check the time on the lock screen. Eventually the screen just stopped illuminating as the phone 'packed up' and the only thing I could access was download mode which does in fact illuminate the screen bright blue with a message which in a nutshell states its for installing firmware on to the device. So I decided to send my device off to Samsung since I am still under warranty (Ireland issues 5 year warranty to all electronics). To my dismay, they told me the device had a cracked screen due to shipping and multiple support staff also relayed this message. It wasn't till I got on to a 2nd manager that he told me it wasn't cracked in shipping and it was actually recorded on the system that it arrived in great condition however the engineers "discovered" that the device had been previously dropped (I never dropped it) and that they didn't even look any further after that and gave me a quote of €280 for a display which I know works. Now I've been battling them on this and they refuse and refuse and refuse. I'm finally caving in and I am going to pay this because its been over a month since I sent the device away. real reason to this post is to warn others of Samsung Support and how they are turning into the Android version of Apple with their god awful customer service. I was also thinking maybe this could spark up a video idea very like the 1 testing the customer support centres of PC Building Manufacturers. Maybe test the Mobile manufacturers customer service because I've been taken advantage of here. I had to contact OnePlus on a matter to my old OnePlus 3 device a couple of years ago and it was all sorted over the phone in 1 phone call so I can see who cares for their customers more in that regards. Am I the only person who has had bad experience with Samsung in this aspect because I'm stressed so much from this. I'm not going to attach the receipt in case I somehow mess up blocking important info so I'll just type it out. Total price for diagnosis, processing and delivery : EX. VAT - €35 Replacement - Lens/Display Assembly - €170.62 Replacement - Component - €17.25 Replacement - Sticker - €5.13 TOTAL PRICE INC. VAT - €280.44

Forgive me if this is common knowledge and I am also pretty sure that inserting anything into your CPU slot other than your CPU is a TERRIBLE idea but if this is real I would like to see Linus do this with a more appropriate CPU (threadripper). Side note, not entirely sure what is going on here so if someone wants to explain the nitty gritty details feel free as I am very interested. There may be a very large chance this is fake...

Now my sister wants to get a laptop for a husband as a birthday gift and she asked me. Thing is I have not been keeping up with the gaming laptops of the world or anything tech related for about 1.5 years. Even though I have been gone quite a short while a lot has happen and I am lost . I am thinking about telling her to get the Alienware 15 as they have a discount going right now for their product. The configuration im going for has a $400 discount. It has a gtx 1060 6gb ddr5, i7-8750h intel core ,16gb ddr4 ram, 128gb SSD, 1TB hd, 1080p 60fps IPS monitor. It seems really good for its price. Should I tell her to get this or other brand? He likes to play game but also do normal web browsing and nothing hardcore. He does not like flashly or game looking laptop. I went for Dell also because they got a great customer service. I need the laptop company to have a great customer service and international warranty. Any recommendations would be very useful thank you very much!!!

Hello all, I've had an accident where my GPU (Evga 980 TI) fried and alot of smoke came out. This caused the top PCI slot to no longer function. My question is, this motherboard has been purchased barely two months ago, will I be able to get a new one or anything like that? (It's an MSI H370 Gaming Pro Carbon) Thanks all for reading.
