Disclaimer: I am posting this in the tech news category as this is related to the recent Zen 3 Launch, Linus and Luke has nudged the topic in the most recent WAN show 06/11/20 but in my opinion, there is more to it. Zen 3 has launched and you're after a new cpu you probably have seen at least several benchmarks by different tech youtubers and news outlets by now. Some of them show new ryzens beating intel by quite a margin, and some of them put them on par with i9-10900k and ever slower intel SKUs. This has been addressed by LTT in the latest WAN show episode. Linus attributes the discrepancies in reviews to the RAM configurations used for testing, but there is one more factor at play here. Uh... is our Ryzen 5000 Review WRONG?? - WAN Show November 6 , 2020 Some reviewers are still using rtx 2080 ti or using 3080 but testing on 1080p ultra settings. One would think that it should not matter much for 1080p testing, right? Not quite. If we'll look at 1% and 0.1% low performance, on this chart below (Gamers Nexus 5600x review) we can spot that all new Ryzens are performing better than i9-10900k on average, yet Intel still has better lows: This appears to be the case across many games, the reason Ryzen comes out on top is that above test is done on 1080p medium, not ultra. Anandtech included results for various settings and resolutions which is a helpful example: F1 2019 768p ultra low, new Ryzens stomp intel into the ground, same game on 1080p ultra and... how come it's so blue at the top of the chart? Conclusion: It occurs to me that new Ryzens have much higher performance ceiling than we thought, the reason why reviews end up being so different is the unexpected GPU bottleneck. When new Zen 3 CPUs and Intel 10th gen are limited by a GPU on the top end, Intel comes out on top due to better low frame performance. When there is no (or lesser) limit imposed by GPU, even ryzen 5 5600x beats i9-10900k in the average FPS. This is especially visible in CS:GO benchmarks which is one of the least GPU intensive titles. It looks like low frame performance improves for Zen 3 CPUs by a mile, with a faster RAM kit. That's why in LTT review, 1% low fps results look to be on par with Intel, as they have used 3600Mhz CL14 kit, contrary to multiple reviewers that are using 3200Mhz kits. Title. Products like this (https://www.lge.co.kr/lgekor/product/aircare/dehumidifier/productDetail.do?cateId=6230&prdId=EPRD.346783). Its a atmosphere dehumidifier which you can also use it to dry shoes. I personally have one and its great (photo is not mine its 3am in morning right now so i grabbed someone elses pic). In rainy days when my shoes get completely soaked i use it and it takes about 2 hours to completely dry. Since it drys so fast it does not smell nor develops fungus. Edited to go straight to the point.

Linus freaking called it BMW is planning to start offering paid subscriptions for features in their cars. "The important takeaway here is that over-the-air updates and features will play a big role in BMW ownership, but more importantly, that users will have to pay for features already installed in their cars, such as heated seats, infotainment features, etc." Looks like cars as a subscription is way closer than anyone previously could have imagined. I bet they don't even drop prices in their cars either considering a base model 3 series starts a around $41000 US and a fully kitted out, non M, comes in at around 54-55k... I figure the lack of having to pay for upgrades up front would make them cheaper because of the subscription fee but I still wouldn't be surprised to see the price right around the 49-51k mark which is pretty ridiculous if you're not interested in paying for all that extra crap. It was pretty depressing to see all the techlinks, the talk and the wan show discussing the "PS5 SSD" without anyone at LMG actually spending the five minutes needed to watch Cerny's talk about the architecture and bashing it for being "a PCI-E ssd". Going as far as citing Epic's boss Tim without even reading about the context of this whole thing is really bad journalism. What Tim was referring to is that the SSD COMPLEX of PS5 is absolutely different than anything you can find on any PC, because it's not made up of just controller + memory + storage + pci-e link but it includes a LOT of other "custom hardware" processing units and links to other components, something that simply does not exist on PC. It does have a dedicated decompression-compression unit equivalent to several Ryzen cores (which is why Linus talk about storage being limited by CPU doesn't make any sense for the PS5 talk, only for PC) it does have direct access to system RAM and it does have direct-ish access to the GPU vram plus dedicated custom scrubbers for this job. Plus 12 channels instead of the usual 3 lanes of PCI-E ssds and 6 levels of priority for data streaming instead of 2, which makes it more similiar to a RAM-registry than a normal storage solution. Probably it's just me, but watching all these videos about an argument when the presenters (that I've followed for many many years at this point, Linus in particular) did not do ANY research about except for a quick "bandwidth google search" is really hitting me. It's not good practice.

4Chan is an okay idea, poorly executed, that draws some of the worst people imaginable and a powerful tool for ultra conservatives to indoctrinate people. The reason I mention this is because one of the groups these people go after is the LGBT+ community. This year it is taking the form of people dox-ing, spamming hate mail, and other acts with obviously malcontent. If you remember, last year 8Chan lost support from CloudFlare because of the El Paso shooting. My main question is, will CloudFlare drop support for 4Chan BEFORE people are killed. If not how is CloudFlare the service not at the very least complacent in the surge in hate crimes. https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2020/05/26/4chan-alt-right-operation-pridefall-pride-month-cyber-attack-starbucks-amazon-homophobia/

Hi At 6:26 during the last Wan Show Linus starts talking about the upgrade path for old Ryzen processors. I have this exact situation: I bought an ASRock B350 Pro4 with a Ryzen 1600 in 2017. The board got support for 3rd gen Ryzen on my motherboard. It's great, I'm planning on buying a 3700X/3900X this fall. However, the process of updating BIOS is really frustrating and stressful. I think I currently have BIOS v2.4 (I don't remember exactly, my PC is at the college dormitory and I can't go there because of the pandemic) and to upgrade I need v5.8 or later. The path is as follows: - flash v3.4 - install AMD all in one VGA driver - flash v5.4 - flash v5.8 - change the CPU (if update further with Ryzen below 3rd gen installed there is a risk of bricking the board) - (optional) flash latest v6.3 The process is a pain in the ass, but if I'm choosing between having a complicated upgrade and not having one at all, I'm going with the complicated path day or night. When I screw up I brick the board, but hey, without any upgrade option I would've had to buy a new one anyway. Hail AMD. Share your thoughts if you have upgraded to 3rd gen from 1st gen or if you're planning to!

Hello all, I have just finished watching the most recent VOD of the wan show and I cannot believe Linus's rant about rogue one. As a man who his entire channel is shitty puns about tech he bitches about how Darth Vader, or as I say darth sass master, is out of character when he cracks a pun at director krennic. However by far his worst offence was his comments on the shield close scene. I am going to be quite blunt. Where you Linus Sebastian even watching the same fucking movie the rest of us saw. I have just watch ----- cam record of the scene and Linus is not even close to being at all accurate. -redacted- Lets count the time from warp in to shield fully close. 1:37:40 to 1:38:53. Just over 1 minute. So you have a hard time believing in the midst of a battle that commanders in space who had to get a hold of someone on the ground who then had to walk over to krennic who had to make a decision under pressure to then get his lackey to walk to his tech guys and tell them to lock down an entire planet plus re contact space guys who are scrabling as a fucking fleet of ships have just warped in to give orders to close a massive shield gate just happened to take more than one minute. Next let's take a quick count of a section of blue squadron on screen at 1:38:23 a I count 7 ships 5 x-wings and 2 U-wing troop transports. After the general gives the orders for more to form up on him they begin to fly through the open gate. Lets count how many more than 4 get through. First one flies through at 1:38:40 and following him on screen we see 13 ships fly through including the 2 troop transports possibly a 3rd its hard to tell at this quality. Quick look at wookiepedia says 8 passengers and at least 3 crew. so that's 24 new boots on the ground in addition to the ~24 we see on screen during the speech before they leave the rebel base. We will use Linus' estimate of 30 rebels + the 24 and we have our 50-60 rebels fighting it out on the surface. But above all lets count the time it takes for the most "egregious" instance of the "bomb defusal" effect Linus has ever seen.1:38:44 the barrier starts to lift, 1:38:51 the shield is free from the barriers. 1:38:52 the shield is fully closed... Need i say anything else. A grand total of 8 seconds with only 1 second of shield swoosh.

I just have one simple question. How hard can it be to have a week, a single week where the Wan Show is not broken? Seriously how hard can it be? I've been following Linus's videos for years now, and ever since they decided to name the live stream to the Wan Show. Almost every single time the show has some sort of a problem. Whether it's audio problems, video problems, computer deciding to bluescreen, software issues, the audio or video doesn't work or work properly when screen sharing, you name it they have it. How hard can it be for a team of over 10 people (honestly I lost count how many of them they are) to build a machine or fix the one they, and ensure that streaming from that machine works and then leave it like that. All it takes is just a couple of hours to fix it once and for all. That's it. So how hard can that be?

(Not sure if this would be better in Off Topic?) Kyle (Bitwit) just tweeted this and I was dying laughing the whole time. This guy is way underrated! Impressions start at 2:50, he does WAN show as well as Tech Talk and Awesome Hardware.

Yesterday during Computer Science Class me and my friend were talking about LTT related things and we got on the topic of merchandise and tried to find where we could buy the orange and black WAN Show hoodie . Turns out it was sold but that was a year ago and only 600 were made (From what I saw in the comments of the video apparently there were 600 all hand made) . I know they weren't sold on the main merch website but maybe you could recreate them or at least sell a design similar to it rather than a big logo. I definitely would buy them if they were being resold

Yo guys I don't know how many of you are still interested in this hoodie. I personally am since I could not buy it when it came out, but making this thread big enough might make Linus bring that hoodie back. Furthermore you can also vote for it on mass drop, here is the link https://www.massdrop.com/vote/Wan-hoodie

Dear Forum Members, Do you often watch the WAN Show? Linus mentioned in one of the last WAN shows this: "I think Last pas auto rejects you the fist password that you put in." Or something along those lines. (It was one of these around halfway through: or ) So I noticed this to, is anybody else experiencing this? There will be a poll. And please do correct me if I am wrong about the video. Thanks

I have found the perfect sponsor for the WAN Show @LinusTech and @Slick. And you guys don't have to learn a new motto I believe you have used this one before
