The new HTC Vive Pro will feature: dual 1440x1600 OLED screens (78% increase over current Vive) will be lighter and more comfortable (including for glasses wearers) built in audio is getting an upgrade It will be released this quarter and be compatible with v1 lighthouses. I think this is a great version two and backwards compatibility is always great. But I fear that with the PRO name the price will also be "pro". So, first off hello i guess, By now im supyer exausted so im gonna try to keep things short for now. To begin, these Problems now exist for a few months. About in June/July I first had very weird tracking issues with my Vive. Later that month the base stations started turning off randomly during VR sessions und in about September Steam VR just stopped detecting my Headset AND the base stations. I tried a lot of things to "re-vive" my VIVE (get it?) pretty much except for formatting windows. Nothing worked so I decided to let the VIVE rest for a bit, maybe it'll fix itself over time, or so I thought. Today I wanted to fire it back up and it worked, for about 5 seconds, before the red LED of death turned back on and Steam VR wasnt shwoing any icons anymore, jut as last time. I spent the alst 5 hours searching the internet for solutions and NOTHING worked. I kinda dont wany to format my PC cause I have about 3.5 TB of Steam games installed on it and only a 50k connection so that would take a few weeks, but if it is the last option I'd do it. By now im really debating to RMA that thing and maybe get a new one. At this point im still barely in the warranty (I bought the thing on black friday last year (Nov 25th) so I have 6 days and counting before I may have 800€ of dead plastic in my room. So here's my cry for help, please!! :=) Basic Specs if you need: i7 6800k Rmapage V Edition 10 2x GTX 1080Ti 32GB Corsair Vengance Thanks, Nick

Saw that this hasent be posted to the forums yet. https://www.theverge.com/2017/11/3/16602674/logitech-bridge-sdk-htc-vive-tracker-keyboard https://www.engadget.com/2017/11/03/logitech-and-htc-vive-bring-keyboards-into-vr/ and here is the vive blog post https://blog.vive.com/us/2017/11/02/introducing-the-logitech-bridge-sdk/ HTC and Logitech have partnered to make a keyboard that you can use in VR. I predicted that they would make this about a year ago, and am actually surprised how long it took. I do VR game dev and there are definitely times that having a keyboard would be great. I am actually sad that they are using the vive puck instead of building it into the keyboard itself (which you can do). 100 dollars for the vive tracker plus however much the keyboard costs (bundle is estimated to be $150 ). Current use case that I would love having this keyboard for. 3D modeling (macros) in VR coding in VR web browsing in VR writing in VR searching through files in VR I hope logitech is already working on one with the trackers built in (it would probably lower the price in the long run). Also you wouldn't need to charge two items (tracker, and keyboard). To the LTT forum members, would you use this. If so what for, if not why not. also @LinusTech Ask logitech if you can test one out.

So I have a (Amazon) Asus GL502VS-DB71 and I am getting a vive. I wanted to make a VR backpack because the cables that are tethered to you are limiting. I have this backpack Amazon. I would think that it would fit my laptop. I need help selecting a battery pack that would power the vive and if it can power my laptop. I think the vive's base stations connect wirelessly through the vive's headset usb. Please help!

Hi all I was hoping that someone in here might have experienced the same issue as I am having. I have borrowed an HTC Vive from a friend and I am considering buying it from him, as he is interested in selling it. The problem is though, that it runs quite smooth most of the time, but once every 15 minutes, the GPU spikes to 100% usage and it stays at 100% for about 30 seconds, this of course causes terrible performance. When this happens there is also a little bit of a CPU spike, but not all up to 100% and it stops again immediately. Temps on both the GPU and CPU are fine, none of them are throttling. I am not experiencing this issue in normal games, so it seems to only be related to VR and it is in all VR games. I have tried with both Nvidia driver 388.71 and 388.59, but it happens on both of them. Restarts have been tried, Windows is updated and it is build 1709. I have tried having nothing else running at the same time, but it is still the same issue, which I find weird. So I am open for suggestions, see my system specs below. My system specs: ï7-4770K Sabertooth Z87 motherboard 16gb Ram MSI GeForce GTX 1070ti 8gb Gaming

So pls if anyone can help. So I just got my HTC Vive 2 days ago but I cant get it to work. At first, the headset was tracking and was picked up by the computer, everything was green I just couldn't play because I didn't have the room set up of the sensors in the right place so I didn't test it out. I set up the room and all of a sudden I keep getting 208 errors (hdmi not found but USB found) so I tried everything including reinstalling Steam VR and steam its self. The biggest problem I have rn is that I go to steam Vr and click settings and Steam Vr crashes with no error message. I'm lost I have no idea where to go or how to fix this. Also, steam VR has been very slow and sluggish. After I get the 208 message I go to try to reconnect it tells me quickly on the re-connection program that status is connected (in all green lettering) but then it goes back to red not working.

So with a little Christmas cash I’ve decided to treat myself to some VR. My main issue obviously is which headset to get. I’ve heard and read that the Rift is lighter thus more comfortable while the Vive is heavier due to the sensors and whatnot. The Vive has room scale vs the Rifts sitting or standing. In my current room I don’t really have space for moving around in VR but I’d like the option to in the future. The Rift is also a hell of a lot cheaper than the Vive, £350 on Amazon vs £600 at Currys which makes the Rift very attractive. I already have Elite: Dangerous and Subnautica in terms of VR games but I’d like to get Job Simulator and Hotdogs, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades (which is only available for HTC Vive I know). Any help deciding? Any experience with VR that could help? Should I wait for what the next year brings? I don’t really want to wait because I’ve already been waiting for forever. Thanks!

I have a list of games I want to try so I already have some of the most popular games like Job Simulator, Space Pirate Trainer, The Lab, Rec Room, Budget Cuts, Alt Space VR, The Gallery, Audioshield, Hover Junkers, Raw Data, Hot Dogs Horseshoes and Hand Grenades. Along with a few others. I suppose I should have plenty to keep me busy for quite a while but are there any really good games/experiences that have come out in the past few months? I've been slacking a bit on the VR forums lately. Also the wait to get out of work and run to the Microsoft Store for a Vive is excruciating. This will help hopefully.

So my desktop has a FX 6350, GTX 970, 8 gigs of DDR3 ram. How well would I be able to run games on the Vive? I know that the GPU and RAM meet the minimum requirements but I don't know about the CPU. Also, how what kind of CPU would have the best cost to performance increase from a 6350? Thanks!

I'm looking to build a PC that can run a Vive set up no problem, I'd like to keep it at $800 or less, must include OS cost ( Windows 10) and Intel processor. I don't care much for the size of the build ATX/Mini-ATX, I've notices with Mini you get the same performance for a lower price so please any suggested builds or experience with VR is needed here.

I want a VR headset but AUSTRALIA IS EVIL meaning that... VIVE (Approximately $1350AUD) RIFT (Approximately $1100 give or take) OSVR 1.4 HDK ($480) FINALLY SHIPPING HERE WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW So Yeah price is a big thing FIRST OF ALL I don't mind the drawback of not having walk around experiences... I mainly want it for a seated experience e.g. Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator, Project Cars SECONDLY I am fine with the "less good" screen (there are upgrades to the new display) THIRDLY I don't mind the trek of setting it up A few questions. (I have googled) Will the OSVR "technically" work with most of steamvr's games? and Considering I am 15 and work at maccas would this be the "best" option for me. Thanks

After seeing the latest tested video I am second guessing my choice for the Oculus instead of the Vive. Which one do you think is the better one currently?
-
I am looking at getting one the VR headsets and am torn. Barnacles's review of the Vive really swayed me because I loved the idea of walking around my room with the headset but I had really been looking forward to playing Eve: Valkyrie but it won't be coming to Vive. I also like that Vive already has their controllers finished. It's $200 more but I think it might be worth it.

This is just a handy tip that I came up with earlier today as I was trying to solve the problem of not been out to hear what's going on around you whilst in VR. I'm sure that I'm not the first person to have come up with this, but I also haven't seen it suggested anywhere else. What I have read a lot of articles about though, is how it's difficult for people to get your attention whilst you are playing inside a VR headset. Steam does have its "knock knock" feature, but that only works in steam VR and not Oculus. It also assumes at least some understanding on behalf of the person trying to get your attention as well as expecting them to read your screen for instructions. So here's my simple method of doing it: 1. Make you have an external microphone on your computer. There is one built-in to the rift, but it doesn't pick up voices around you as much as it is designed to be a personal microphone and cut out background noise. In my case, I can use the built-in microphone on my Logitech Webcam. 2. In the bottom right hand corner of your toolbar, right click and select recording devices. Select the microphone you wish to use, that gives the best sound pick up of the room around you. Set this as your default device . 3. Now right click on your chosen device and select properties Now click on the list and have at the top of the properties window. 4. Tick the option that says "Listen to this device". Under the drop down menu which says "Playback through this device", select the headphones that you use in your virtual reality headset. I'm not sure what this is called in the HTC Vive as I don't have one. For rift owners, it's a bit simpler; simply select "Headphones (rift audio)". if you are using your own headphones, simply select them as an option. 5. That is pretty much it. Sounds picked up by your microphone will now be played back through the headset or headphones you have selected. This gives you a slightly better idea of your surroundings and may save you from if you jump scares when a family member or friend decides to put their hand on your shoulder to get your attention. One suggestion I would have, is clicking on the levels tab of the microphone properties, and reducing the levels to about 50%. This is personal preference, but to me, this is allowed enough to hear what is going on around you without being distracting. Its only an an idea and meant to help people like myself who don't have a an exclusive place to play games undisturbed. Or if you're simply talking to your friend while he's playing a game. It can help maintain the social element I love so much in gaming. Would love to hear your feedback.

I have an htc vive in my garage and my gaming desktop is in my room across the house. What is the best way to get all the signals I need from my pc to my vive to get it to work. I remember linus's video on the ridiculously long optical usb 3 cable, should I use something like that? That's really my only idea, so what should I do?

I have a surround sound system in my room and was planning on getting the HTC Vive. It would be really convenient if I could mount the light houses in the same place as the satellites. While I'm playing music at a louder volume than I usually play video games at, and it feels like the place I'm planning on mounting the lighthouse doesn't vibrate (I'm assuming because there's a beam right behind it) but the drywall to the left and right of it does vibrate. Should I be concerned about the vibrations and could I just add rubber grommets to reduce it?

I'm considering to upgrade my graphics and power supply unit. Here is my current build: Part Power Name CPU -220w AMD Fx 9370 (Corsair H100i cooling.) GPU -290w PowerColor AMD R9 380x Mb -?w Gigabyte GA-78LMT (Impossible to SLI/Crossfire) RAM -17w 20GB (2+2+8+8) Case -20w Corsair Air 240 (3 fans) PSU 550w NZXT (Barely holding) // TYPO not NEXT I didn't plan to play VR when I built my PC, but I later got my HTC vive. R9 380x can handle non-demanding titles, but sometimes the displays turn black, missed frame... etc If I upgrade my graphics, I probably need to spend another $130 on a power supply. Currently I am considering one of the following: Price Mem Loaded Temps Name $360 8GB 390w 80c AMD R9 390x $430 6GB 350w 83c GTX 980ti $490 4GB 375w 65c AMD Fury x (Water cooling) $490 8GB 220w 75c GTX 1070 $510 4GB 250w 73c AMD R9 Nano $540 6GB 350+?w 83-?c GTX 980ti (Water cooling) $560 8GB 220+?w 75-?c GTX 1070 (Water cooling) Pros & Cons: 1. Cheap + more $ for PSU. May not be good enough for more demanding titles. 2. High performance. High Power usage. Heat might be an issue in my PC Case due to motherboard PCI location. 3. Water cooling. High power usage. Performance is not as good as 980ti / 1070 4. Low power (probably no new PSU). High performance. Heat? probably not a big deal 5. Low power level. Expensive for performance, probably still a good idea to get a new PSU. 6. Water cooling, High performance. Expensive. Super high power usage. 7. Water cooling, ~Same power, High performance. Expensive, still need a new PSU. I think GTX 1070 is probably the best card I should get for my VR set up. What are your opinions?

http://techfrag.com/2016/05/05/microsoft-proposes-cheap-solution-eliminate-nausea-ar-vr-headsets/ Its a simple idea that takes advantage of the fact that human's peripheral vision is not able to discern details, but more attuned to movement and color change. Because of this, Microsoft has put a bunch of individually-addressable LEDs in a matrix behind some frosted plastic, which create a very cheap and basic approximation of the scene lighting in one's periphery. If you just want to see a demo, here's the video from the article: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9LVwl8cmc0 Edit: Quote Quota for the Beancounters

My first and biggest concern is that I have a ASUS Stryx GTX 970 for my GPU, and am using all 4 display outputs on it. Ive never messed with running a GPU stand alone for just display ports. I have an older AMD card for a backup in case shit hits the fan, would it be possible to slap that into my rig and use it just for the HDMI for the vive? Second, is there any benefit of using USB 3.0? it says 2.0 is fine but nothing about any improvements if using 3.0. Third, I intend to have the room scale part far enough away from my computer that my current headset wont reach. How is the experience just playing through the speakers? Should I get a wireless headset? Fourth, How does it work if i want to swap from room scale to sit down? As stated earlier I want the room scale to be a decent distance away from my PC and the lighthouse boxes wouldnt be covering where I sit. Is this not an option? or is there a little stand thing like the oculus has that sit on your desk that I just havent seen? I appreciate all the help <3 EDIT: it look like in the FAQ it says that you do need one of the sensor boxes to be in front of you at your computer for sit down experiences. Are they easily removable from the mounts?

https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4dq00o/what_worked_for_me_extending_pc_vive_30_ft/ Further down in the comments, another redditor had success with an active USB cable: I just thought I'd share this since I know some people would rather have a PC in their office/bedroom while playing the Vive in a more spacious place like their living room. Enjoy.

So I am still waiting for my Oculus Rift pre-order. I know the headset is amazing (tried it last year at E3) but I am concerned about the motion controllers and the attitude of closed ecosystem from Oculus. The initial reviews for Touch seem promising. Will it allow for whole room VR like the Vive? I have a room set aside in my house just waiting for VR! I am not very interested in sitting in a chair playing VR games on an XBOX controller. But I also definitely prefer the Rift headset over the Vive. I am torn whether I should cancel my Oculus order and wait for Touch to see how it looks, keep the order and enjoy it with the dumb controller, or cancel and go with Vive. thoughts? experiences?

Just days after Oculus implemented their new DRM, the Revive developers have found a way around it. The new version disables the games' ownership check functionality, which has the side effect of enabling piracy.
