What are the best budget desktop speakers? Subwoofer or not I don't mind can anyone suggest some decent speakers for around £50 or $75. A clean design would be preferred, none of this gaming design which looks...questionable Thanks in advance!

I just installed a new motherboard, Asus x99-a, replacing an Asus m5a97 r2.0. So, basically I have this thing called a Subpac, doesn't really matter except that it is basically a sub woofer and that is how the PC sees it. If you want more details --> http://thesubpac.com/subpac-s2-2/ Again, it works just like a sub woofer as far as configuration is concerned. After upgrading, I cannot get the thing to work in games, Spotify, Windows media player, iTunes, nothing. It comes up and tests just fine in the configuration for playback devices as well as in the Realtek HD audio manager. But Windows does not seem to want to output to it at all. This wouldn't be so frustrating if not that I DID have it working just fine with the other motherboard. AND THEY USE THE SAME DRIVERS!!! I cannot figure out why it wont just do what it did before. I remember I had to do some finagling before, but I did get it work after configuring the driver and whatnot. I have no idea why it wont work. Ideas? Thanks.

EDIT: When I was testing this, I was primarily testing with music and forgot to try out gaming and video play back. There is actually a slight delay between audio and video. I have done some messing with settings to get it as low as I can (less than a tenth of second). I will likely continue messing with settings and possibly other solutions to optimize a bit more. This wont affect anyone using this to create virtual cables for recording or just basic music listening. This would only be an issue with gaming and video play back. It is not too bad though, would really only be an issue if doing very serious competitive gaming or something along those lines. I optimized fairly well, but it certainly is not perfect and I will try to find other solutions or settings that reduce the latency when I have more time. I would recommend going with the standard settings if you are just using this for audio play back or creating more channels for recording because it will not affect the recording, only monitoring of the recording. Fair warning that the low latency settings adjustments can be a bit tedious and frustrating. Basic knowledge of computer organization and scheduling may help in understanding what settings you are changing. For my purposes, I used this solution to split all system sound on my PC to output to both my on board sound card and a PCI sound card. This program could, in theory, be applicable to a lot different situations including recording multiple sources, outputing from HDMI on video card and other devices simultaneously, outputting to speakers in different rooms, or probably a bunch of other situations. Anyway, I hope this helps someone else do what they need to do! The solution I found was to do some basic tinkering with the very light weight program Virtual Audio Cable. Unfortunately, it is a paid program, but you can download the trial to test things out first and see if it can work for your situation. All the trial does (to my knowledge) is limit your number of virtual cables to 3 and after a minute or so it outputs a voice saying "Trial" a few times a minute. So, you can easily test things out and decide if it works for you before committing any money. Anyway, I set it to have just one virtual audio cable in the program's control panel (which you do have to run as administrator or else the program crashes whenever you attempt to change anything). Under cable parameters, check the box for volume control to have master volume control in Window's built in volume mixer. Click set to save the setting. I did mess with some other cable parameters a bit, but for people just looking for basic setup can leave all the defaults. What needs to be done is likely self explanatory for anyone who thinks they need to mess with that stuff. Low Latency Edit Under driver parameters set worker threads to be equal to the maximum number of logical cores on your CPU (in my case 12 for a 5930k) and change the prio to 31. This give the program the highest priority on Window's scheduler. This is technically a bit risky, but it should be fine. Also under cable parameters set Ms per int to 1. I also changed the Clock correction ratio to 99.9995 (five clicks down). This will affect the queues in the MME interface that is used later. This is one of the settings that may be tedious to mess with. Remember to click set to save the settings. Once you do that, set the cable as the default audio device. This is what directs ALL PC audio out to the virtual cable. Next step is to open up the programs Audio Repeater (MME) interface. Select the virtual cable for Wave in (input) and one of the outputs you are trying to get audio to for Wave out. You can also adjust some other settings for the output here if so desired. Once you click start, the program will begin "forwarding" all system sound to the output you selected. Again, I changed the sample settings, defaults are fine for most people. These settings can be adjusted based on the specs of your sound card or DAC. If you set the settings too high, you will not have any sound output. Recommend default unless you know what you are looking to change. Low Latency Edit Notice the Queues that I discussed eariler. Set Total buffer (ms) as low as it can go without any overflows (probably 100 maybe a bit lower, but that is likely the lowest preset). And set the number of buffers to be the total buffer divided by 3. In my case 90 ms and 30 buffers. These settings will likely depend on your hardware's power and configuration. These settings do have minimal overflow for me, but the lack of noise in the line with my discrete card is worth taking one overflow every couple of seconds (average). This just means that the connection will "drop a frame" but it is only 3 ms, so .0003 seconds and is not at all noticeable. I personally feel that this is fine for gaming. If I am doing anything like just music listening I can adjust the settings to enhance the buffer, but increase latency. That's fine if I'm not gaming. With this solution there is still some latency, but it is less than a tenth of a second so it is one of those things were you aren't likely to notice it unless you are specifically looking for it. Repeat this last process until you have all the outputs you desire. In my case, just two for now. After that, you are good to go! You can just minimize (don't close!) the windows and they will move over to the task tray where you can re open them, stop, restart, and edit as you wish. Unfortunately, it seems that the final step of the process does have to be repeated each time the program stops (aka after a reboot). So, it is probably a good idea to create a shortcut to the Audio Repeater (MME) interface and save screen shots of the configuration if you aren't the kind of person to remember every little detail about your setup! And you will have to reinstall and redo the whole process if you did test with the trial first and are going to migrate to the full version. I am certainly not an expert with using this program, but I will definitely try to help out anyone that has any issues or is attempting to do more complex setups that what I have outlined here. I imagine this program would be helpful for anyone trying to do things with monitoring different outputs while recording or what not. Let me know if this guide helped you create a solution to your audiophile needs!

I apologize, but this is technically a repost. My initial thread is in the audio sub-forum, so here's the link to it. If you have ideas please respond there. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/532053-new-mobo-subwoofer-does-not-work-properly/

SOOOOOO Yeah. Birthday is on Monday and I've decided I want to move up from my refurbished Phillips soundbar. We have the Logitech Z906s at work but I had read that they were not so awesome for a TV. I think I'm leaning towards more of a 2.1 system though. What can you guys recommend? Definitely looking for some advice on this.

Just curious if anyone (on LTT) has done a project like this. I've been thinking of maybe putting this on my project to-do list because it seems relatively inexpensive (compared to buying one) and not too complicated. These are the parts I was thinking of using, in case anyone is interested in knowing: 18" dayton subwoofer (yeah, I know its huge, I actually considered a 24" StereoIntegrity subwoofer, but that costs 5x as much at $1250) This is a 1200W RMS dayton panel amplifier, which is a bit expensive at $600, but has a really useful auto-EQ feature to flatten the response wherever you use the sub. 1" thick MDF, which I would double-layer for a total of 2" thick walls. 6" port, which I've calculated will need to be at least 24" long Acoustic foam to line the inside of the box! Some nice spikes for the bottom (these might be a bit too small for a subwoofer box that weighs near 100lbs) Total price is about $1000 Far less than the $4000 adam audio sub-15 SO yeah, just plans for a project, who knows if I will ever build it Let me know if you've ever built audio equipment yourself, I'm interested in hearing your thoughts!

I want to have good quality speakers for my TV home theatre setup , but also some that I can link to via Bluetooth for casual music listening. My budget is around £300-450 Can anyone suggest some ideas?

heyo, I just got my sub and I'm playing around with where to put it. Many people say that its best under that table, but I can feel it more than I can hear it in the current placement.

Heyo, I've looked up a few videos on how to add leds to your sub and make them pulse to the beat, but all of them solder the led terminals directly to the speaker terminals. Is that safe? considering the speaker receives an AC current and the LEDs work off DC. Would there be any repercussions to the speaker/ amp? My sub is the Yamaha YST-SW012, and its powered by an inbuilt amp (50W I think) for further context.

So I put two extra speakers in my office and I also put a sub woofer in there that I am going to power them by the zone 2 feature on my receiver. The sub woofer was from one of the home theater in a box systems so it only has a RCA input. It is also a powered sub woofer so it doesn't need power from the RCA. So I was thinking either put the two speakers in series and and send the other channel to my subwoofer by soldering speaker cable to a rca plug or i can send 1 channel to each speaker and get a rca splitter and send one to the reciever and one to the subwoofer. I don't know what to do and this is my set up right now: Computer's 3.5mm > 3.5mm to 2 RCA converter > Receiver > 1 Chanel to sub woofer and 1 channel to both speakers in series Or i can have it set up like this: Computer's 3.5mm > 3.5mm to 2 RCA converter > RCA Splitter (for left or right channel) > 1 to sub woofer and 1 to Receiver > 1 Channel to left speaker and 1 channel to right speaker I dont know what to do. Thanks for helping.

I have had the simple audio listens for a while now, because of their low price at the time of purchase (a little over $100), however the bass was a little lacking compared to my old 2.1 setup. What would be a good subwoofer in the $100 - $150 CAD range to make my current speakers into a 2.1 setup. A bass knob would also be preferred, as I'm in a dorm right now and I would like not to cause an earthquake (My room isn't directly connected to other people's rooms, so I wont piss anyone off unless I turn up the volume to pretty intolerable levels). My old setup was a cheap ($30) 2.1 setup from Philips, and the sub was 4", so it dosent have to be much bigger than that, because I was pretty satisfied with the bass performance of that little sub.

I have just found a very old Sony receiver, the STR-DE325. On the back, it has a "Mix Audio Out" RCA Jack. According to the manual it looks like where you'd hook up a subwoofer, but it goes into no detail. As I plan to use this in a 2.1 setup with a powered sub my questions are- 1. Is this a "standard" line level subwoofer output? 2. Is it full-range, or is there some sort of crossover in the receiver? 3. Does it work in 2-ch stereo modes, or is it only for surround modes? Thanks!

I have a question and need a quick response! The Monoprice 8248 subwoofer says that it has a 50Hz-150Hz crossover. My question is, is this crossover effective for BOTH the Hi-Level input and the RCA input?? I would like to run a RCA full range signal to it and want to know if the crossover also works on the RCA inputs. Thank you so much!

There is quite a bit of discussion on LTT about headphones, and rightly so. They are personal, they promote "me" time, and no one else has to hear your shit if they don't want to. But when it's time for actions, no one can deny that a wall rattling subwoofer is the most fun you can have. I've been ridiculously amazed by subwoofers lately. So much that I can't get enough. I want to hear about your experiences with subs. What rattles your walls and punches your chest when the action picks up? Did you name it? Does your wife hate it? Are you even old enough to legally marry? And remember, size matter

I want to buy high quality speakers. The most important thing to me is bass, i need lots of it. If you know good speakers that would shake the house, please give me a link and I'll take a look. Any speakers are fine as long as I can hook them up to my PC. $450 is about as high as I can go.

Hi guys, I currently have a pair of Mordaunt Short 904i and I feel like they don't really get the bass going, not so much the loudness is the problem but rather the low frequencies. So I'm looking for a subwoofer, mainly for music listening. I don't want that boomy home theatre feel, but the tight and punchy one. I red a lot about the pioneer sw-8mk2, unfortunately the only ones being sold come from the US, and shipping them to Germany is like 80$ /: , so I'm looking for an alternative. Can you recommend any subs?

Hello techtipters... I want to know if is possible to use the subwoofer of my home theater while i'm using the TV Speakers, as if the subwoofer is part of the TV audio system. I hope all of you understand what i write

Any audio guys out there? I need some advice with my audio setup. I am adding a sub to my system. Here's my current setup: Schiit Modi 2 Uber (DAC) Schiit Magni 2 Uber (headphone amp/preamp) SMSL SA 36A Pro CEntrance MasterClass 2504 And I am adding Jamo SUB 210 as a new member of my system filling the spot for bass It has a RCA input. The diagram below shows how i'm planning on wiring it to the rest of the system. I'm planning on using two RCA splitters to route signal to the sub. I'm not sure if i'm doing it correctly. And I want to check it with someone who knows before I purchase cables. Let me know if this will wok or if there are any other ways to connect the sub. Thanks.

Hey guys! I have recently purchased the Simple Audio Listen speakers: http://www.simpleaudio.com/all-products/bluetooth-speakers/simple-audio-listen So far I love them! I noticed they have a "sub woofer out" hole in the back. This got me thinking about buying one. Now, I do use these as a "desktop" speaker and my room bedroom is fairly small. Usually I keep them at about 20% volume or lower at night. But during the day I turn them up to 50%-70%. I mainly use them for music listening (watching movies and gaming I use my audio-technica mth50x). Would it improve my music listening to add a sub woofer? How much should I spend? Which one would you recommend? Thanks guys!

I was just wondering as I am planning to make a purchase but don't know it it has its own speakers. I am getting a seperate speaker set, but built in speakers is an added bonus!

Does the sound in a subwoofer sound better with a more expensive "quality" cable? (only cable talking here, not receiver or anything) My cable looks like this kinda, just not gold plated and looks 2x cheaper

Looking at refreshing my audio system and I really wanna make it good. REALLY good. I don't do any video editing or audio work. Just looking for a really good system. A friend of mine who DOES do audio engineering, editing and mastering recommended the Yamaha HS5's and the HS8 Subwoofer, and I've heard good things about the Audioengine D1. is this investment worth it to you? Or would you rather go with something like the Corsair CA-SP211NA or the Logitech Z623 980-000402???
