So a few days ago I bought an rx 470. When I play games like naruto storm 3 my pc does not shut down, but anytime I play graphically intensive games or raise the visuals to ultra on old games-like mafia II, my pc restarts like 5 minutes into the game. I changed the power supply from a crappy one to a bequiet 450w cause I thought that was the problem, but it does not seem to work. These are my pc specs. Dell optiplex 7010 with an i5 3470 4gb ddr3 ram 500gb hard disk 450w be quiet psu Any help will be welcome. Thanks

Hi guys! My computer is having a shutdown problem again. When I turn it off through windows, it will turn the display off, but the fans will continue to spin. What should I do? I updated my bios and disabled programs that stopped the shutdown, but it only worked once. What should I do? It is not a PSU issue. It is rather windows or motherboard. Thanks.

So today after a week of waiting my Kingston UV400 120GB SSD came in. Decided since my previous drive with windows on it is 1TB that I would just do a clean install of windows on the SSD, so I unplugged the other two HDDs I have to where JUST the SSD is plugged in for the windows install. That went smoothly, it booted into windows after install just fine. I then shutdown the pc and plugged in the other drives. Turned the pc on, I saw the windows logo for a split second, then the computer turned off, mid-boot. Then I went ahead and unplugged both mechanical drives to where it just was the SSD. Same result. I was on the phone with Kingston 3 times and with no help. They just told me to clean install, did it twice, same result. I don't think it's my PSU because it could power 2 drives just fine but even with 1 plugged in it shuts down. Specs: i5 4570 3.2Ghz GTX 1070 8gb RAM 1600mhz 2 seagate HDDs ASRock h97 anniversary edition ATX motherboard. Cooler Master v550 80+ Gold Certified ATX PSU Kingston UV400 120GB SSD.

Hello LTT community: I've been experiencing random shutdowns of my PC. It's an i5 6600K (with a CM V8 GTS cooler) , 16GB Corsair Vengeance LED, a MSI GeForce GTX 1080, and two hard drives (a Samsung 850 Evo SSD and a WD Caviar Black) on an Asus Z170 Sabertooth Mark 1 which gets power from a Seasonic M12II 750w PSU. The thing is that I built this PC back in October 2016 and I did not have any problem at all with it. I game on it (Doom, Forza Horizon 3, Planet Coaster, etc) and so far everything was perfect until I installed the Windows 10 Creators Update. When I did so I started experiencing these random shutdowns. It would randomly restart, sometimes when I get into the logon screen, sometimes when I got into the desktop, sometimes after a couple of minutes... I got to run a "sfc /scannow " from recovery command line and it found no problems. I finally ended up rolling back to the previous version of Windows 10 and now its more stable, but It keeps shutting down and restarting randomly rarely and It's so annoying. I've changed three things on my PC recently: 1) The one that made it more evident: The Creator's Update 2) I have a Logitech G19 keyboard. I put a script on it to make it change colors automatically. (No way this could be causing my entire pc to shutdown but... one does not know) 3) I recently changed my monitor to a LG 24MP88HV-S. I don't want to think that my PSU is faulty. I do have my PC connected to a power strip where I do have all the other accesories connected (Monitor, Speakers, Keyboard) Maybe I should try replacing the power cable or even the power strip.

Hello, I just purchased a used Palo Alto PA-4050, and the seller seems to not have changed their password for the management options. Is there a way to do a hard factory reset, or any other way to access the management console? The default username/password or admin/admin is not working. Also, is there a power switch or anything of that sort, or is it safe to just pull the plug on it? I don't know how to correctly power it off, but I need to turn it off since I am only temporarily working on it at this location. If I sound like a noob, it's because this is my first firewall. I am studying CIT and I thought it would be good for my education if I could buy one of these to work on at home. Any help is appreciated.

UPDATE: so apparently there was an issue with my PSU after all, after swapping it out for the PSU from my old rig it booted up and worked properly. Specs: i7 6700K at 4Ghz (was i5 6600K at 3.5 Ghz) Corsair H80I v2 Crucial - Ballistix Sport LT 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory Gigabyte Z170 X gaming 3 motherboard (was Asus Z170-E) MSI Armor OC GTX 1080 (swapped for R9 280 then swapped back after testing) Samsung 850 evo 250 gig ssd Seagate Barracuda 1TB and Western Digital Caviar blue 2TB HDD EVGA 650 P2 psu TP-Link Wireless Dual Band PCI Express Adapter (TL-WDN4800) Windows 10 Pro 64-bit so for the past couple of months my pc has been shutting down after a bit of use, straight to black screen, and then going into a seemingly infinite turn on/turn off pattern, I've tried replacing everything except for the ram (I did try only using only 1 stick at a time) and PSU (tested the psu using this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005UZHB6G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 PSU is working properly according to my results ) I have tried re installing windows and de-fragmenting my drives, I have tried turning it off and on again, I even tried using my pc in a different room of my house. Recently my pc shutdown while playing games, whats weird is that not all games make the pc shutdown. It only shutdowns with games like Universe Sandbox 2, Kerbal Space Program and Sonic Lost World, but it doesnt with GTA V. Hi all, So I've just upgraded my 2 year old pc's 970 to a non-extreme Aorus GTX 1080 TI (full system specs below). However, after about 10 minutes of tweaking with settings in Mass Effect Andromeda the PC suddenly shut off and restarted again without any warning. (never happened before). I didn't think that this could be a GPU crash so I hooked up a power meter to measure the system power draw. It seems as though it is drawing far too much power (details below). I tried tweaking a few things but the shutoff has happened again while running Heaven. Since then I've been watching the power meter carefully so that I don't sustain high power draw for longer than a minute or so to reduce risk of system damage. Full system: - i5 4690k OC to 4.5GHz at 1.250V - H100i v2 cpu cooler - Aorus (non-extreme) GTX 1080 Ti (F4 beta bios) - AsRock Z97 Extreme 4 motherboard - 2x4GB GSkill Ripjaws 1866MHz RAM (stock voltage) - Cooler Master V750 (750W 80+ Gold, semi modular) - 4x 120mm chassis fans - 3TB Seagate Barracuda 7500rpm HDD - 250GB Samsung 850 Evo SSD - Blu Ray drive - PCI-e wireless network adapter Power Draw Test Results: Idle: 110W Idle + all system fans maxed: 135W (includes GPU fans and H100i pump) Prime 95 v26.6 only: 300W Prime 95 + GPU Test: 910W Heaven only: 730W (highest settings, no AA, 1440p res) Witcher 3: 820W (all settings maxed, no hairworks, some post processing off, 4k DSR on 1080p panel) These were all tested with the power limit on the GPU maxed to 375W, +30 on core and +550 on memory clocks. The idea with the Prime 95 tests was to max out cpu power and use that as a baseline for estimating gpu power draw using gpu test with Prime95 still running. According to this test, gpu draw is around 600W from the wall - that seems crazy high even when considering psu efficiency losses. For example, in the reviews for this gpu they are measuring max total system power draw to be around 450-500W, and these systems are X99 based with overclocked enthusiast cpus. Yes they are using higher efficiency power supplies but surely my 2 year old 80+ Gold 750W supply should be better more than adequate. Is it just me or do these numbers seem abnormally high? I should also add that after the first shutdown, I immediately plugged in the power meter and started the same game with all settings unchanged and looked at the same scene. Power draw was approx 830W. Any ideas as to what could be going on here? I'd really appreciate any help/advice/insight. Thanks in advance!

Hey Guys So after finding no help from other forums I thought it's about time I post my own problem and hope someone out there has some wisdom. So in November 2016, I built my new rig (pic included). Everything installed fine and was running smooth as butter. One day in about January 2017, I finally needed to plug in a USB to the front panel ports, the only one that was plugged in previously was the install media when I built it. When I plugged it in, boom, the PC just powers off and restarts, kinda like a surge has happened. Once restarted I can plug and unplug any amount of USB cables/sticks etc any number of times with no issue. It can go days without needing to plug anything in, then Ill find myself plugging my phone cable in (standard USB to micro USB) and as soon as the USB touches the port i.e not fully inserted the same issue. The only log I have is the unhelpful Kernal Power 41 notification in Event Viewer. So when the PC is running no issues, It can be on for days using the web, watching movies, playing games etc etc so Im fairly sure the power for the system is fine. I have checked the conections and cannot see anything that would cause it to short. The final thing I can think of is static build up, what do you guys think? Hello all ! Around a year and a half ago, i upgraded my system from gtx 550 ti , to 970 g1 , and added Samsung 850 evo. Everything was fine for a year, except couple of crashes hear and there, and sometimes didn't boot and made 3 short beeps, i mostly solved this by removing one ram stick and reinserting. One day when i played my computer crashed, no blue screen, I tried to boot him up, and got short quick beeps when trying to boot. I was like , OK this has happened before so I got one ram stick out, and now the computer booted, was stuck on bios , and beeping every 30 seconds. I tried to unplug Hard drive , optical drive reader , every external phariperal and still same error- stuck on bios with long beeps every 30 seconds. I tried to boot without the GPU , which the computer did , and I was presented with this screen( I was using the onboard graphics), .I waited till it finished, and the computer booted up normally.When I tried to insert the graphics card the computer doesn't want to bot and I'm getting 1 long beep , and 3 short ones. I sent the card to RMA (stupidly i know), and they returned it to me as the gpu was fine.My friend then tested the card on his system and it worked fine. When i got the card, i inserted it into the pc, booted fine , had a very long bios screen 1-2 minutes, then windows loaded fine.I Fixed this problem by updating my bios version (F5 -> F12), but now when i try to play a game, my computer just reboot after 20 min or so (depends on the game). When im not doing anything that requires high gpu usage the computer is stable. I wanted to test my machine to eliminate other problems, so i used a stress test that consisted of Furmark, and prime95, while recording sensors with hwinfo. My computer rebooted after around 9 minutes. I also did only prime95 for 2 hours, and my computer was fine, cpu peaked at 75c, but average was 65 c, so temperatures are not a problem. Even in my games, and in the benchmark my gpu would work fine, and i got good frame rate. So when I overclock my GTX 980 (through X server on ubuntu 16.04) when I put my `Memory transfer Rate offset` to over 2000 and my `Graphics clock offset` over 200 or so my PC freezes, It does boot back up but i was hoping to get my Graphics clock higher, do i need to add more volts?

Hey guys, I came to the linustechtips forums because i've been checking out Linus' channel whenever I research parts. I have this issue where my computer just shuts itself down while gaming, but it is kind of unique and google is giving me nothing. It doesn't just shut off, It pops up and says "Shutting down" and then it shuts itself down properly. I can turn it back on and it immediately fires up. This is almost exclusive to me playing video games. Wow specifically. I sometimes let my PC run while I am not around, or if I pass out without shutting it off. It actually shut down on me while not gaming the other day. Also while playing wow I get these occasional (potentially unrelated) mini freezes when opening a menu/targetting an enemy or in a graphically intense area. USB device over current status detected. Computer will shutdown in 15 seconds Is the message I get when my PC has been off all night long. I have googled this without getting any answers to my particular problem. My case is this. I have an old Asus P67 Sabertooth motherboard, paired with an Intel I7-2600k @4.4GHz, 16GB of RAM from Corsair and I HAD a Corsair 750W PSU. Since my computer was built in 2009 or 2010 or something. I can't really remember exactly. The motherboard, RAM, CPU and PSU has stayed the same since the dawn of time. So I figured for safety reasons i'd change out the old 750W PSU with a brand new 600W Corsair PSU. After I did this I get this message when my computer has been off for a whole night. But: It's only the first time when I boot it up. This has occurred maybe 3 times. The first time I unplugged all that was unnecessary from the USB ports. Then tried starting the computer again and it booted. Only to plug in it when Windows started. And all was fine with the computer. The 2nd time I opened the PC up, and changed the connector header on the motherboard from USB1 to USB2. And I also took USB connections behind the PC from ports that were populated, and stuck them into ports that were non populated. (So I switched it all around) Started it again and it booted into Windows. The 3rd time: I started the PC. The error popped up on the screen like usual. The pc took 15 secs and turned off. Then for something interesting: I DID NOTHING. I pressed the power button, and voila - it boots into Windows fine. What is this sorcery ? The power supply works fine. I know that, been running it without problems for some days before this error occurred. And if I restart my computer now, the error does not appear. It just boots like normal. Is my motherboard starting to show it's age? Hi, everyone! Recently, when I started playing Rainbow Six Siege after a few minutes, my computer would shut down. Just the computer, nothing else. I was confused and thought nothing serious was going on so I played again 20 minutes ago, and again, it shut down. It appears to shut down a few minutes into the actual game. I thought this was because of a power issue, so I was like "I'm gonna stress the sh*t out of my CPU and GPU" and I ran Prime 95 and Furmark at the same time for 10 minutes (Rainbow Six Siege shuts down about 3 minutes into the actual game). Computer works as normal, AMD's stock cooler rips my ears off but it's all good. Any Ideas? I forgot to mention, I initially thought it was the power supply's power delivery to the GPU so I turned on power effeciency off in crimson settings and disabled frame rate target control. Still did it. Then, I replaced my dual 8 pin cable with the other one that comes with the corsair RMX 650. Could it be because of the PSU's PSU cable? (The one that you plug into the wall and it delivers power to the PSU) or the PSU itself? Thank you for your time. One last thing, I haven't tested out any other games, but it never shut down while playing league of legends for over 3 hours and over an hour of m&b warband.

Hi everyone, My father uses an ancient Windows 98 machine for work. This is common for some government and military systems. He has to force quit "rundll32" in the task manager before shutting down or the system freezes during shutdown. He discovered this through trial and error. Any thoughts on how to stop this? hello people , ive finally managed to save some money and build my first pc . so ive built this pc :http://pcpartpicker.com/list/Myq2r7 CPU: i5 6500 Mobo: Asrock H110M-ITX Ram: single stick HyperX Fury 8gb PSU: XFX XT 500W Bronze Certified GPU (not included in pcpartpicker link): GTX 750TI from an older pc i had I have not yet installed Windows , so i can only access the bios , but when i turn OFF the PC by using the Power Button to shut it down , when i try to turn it ON again it wont start , no fans spinning , no lights , nothing , everything is dead. I noticed that when i turn OFF my PSU switch for 15-20 seconds and theb i turn the psu back ON , when i press the Power Button the system running perfectly ( i think sometimes for the first seconds the fans are quite louder than normal , but it can be on my mind). Anyway , is this normal???

Hello! Lately Windows 10 Pro has been shutting down very slow. I timed it and it took 1m32s to shut down completely. Also, the OS in on a 120GB Kingston SSD. Can anyone lend a helping in finding out why is this happening? Also, if more info is required let me know. Cheers!

Hi everyone, My dad has an old Windows 98 machine that he needs for work. It has a form of software he needs and can't upgrade (there are military and government systems like this). When he shuts down, the monitor reads "Power Save Mode" and goes black, but the power supply and fan remains on. He has to force shutdown by holding down the power button. It's like the operating system is shutting down but the power supply is remaining on. I tried going to power management to see if the shutdown option was changed to "Hibernate" or "Sleep" but it wasn't. This happened after switching out a dead power supply for a different one. This "new" one may be faulty. Any thoughts? Thanks for any help in advance.

I have been trying to solve this problem for quite long but I havent find the cause of it. When I run a demanding game for 5 to 10 minutes my pc shutdowns. I have changed my PSU, I had a Thermaltake TR2 600W and now I have a Corsair CX850 but it doesnt seem to be a PSU problem because when I open my PC case (it is cooler) it takes longer for shuting down althought my temps are quite nice Mobo- 30º(Asrock z97 fatality) CPU-45º max i5 4590k GPU- 980 SC EVGA 65ºC max 8GB RAm Samsung 850 evo 250GB Also when running Sky diver 3dmark stress test it shutdowns Ive done Memtest86+ and CPU stress testing with Prime 95 also I changed my GPU (It was a gtx 970 from msi) so that is discarted Please help me out

Hey guys, I have a first generation Intel NUC the i3 Model. A few weeks ago I started having issues where it randomly reboots every 5 minutes or so. I never get a blue screen it just reboots. After say 20 minutes or about 4-5 reboots I'm taken to the Windows 10 "Your system isn't booting properly" Try troubleshooting or repairing the system. I did a clean install of Windows 10 but with the same result right after the installation was complete. I also tried to use the power adapter from my other i5 NUC but the same problem occurs there as well. Any ideas on what the issue might be?

Since i built my pc I had a strange issue. When i overclocked my CPU to an BCLK strip of 100/167Mhz, multiplier of 40/43/45 and set the voltage to 1,25V/1,3V, the Pc shut down immediately or when while benchmarking/gaming. In this scenario the Graphics card was at szock speed. Or I had this issue: CPU at stock speed, graphics card at 120% power target, +50 Mhz chip clock -> 2Ghz . Sometimes the game crashed and the vga driver reseted. Okay so the clock of the gpu was overkill. But sometimes, like in 3D mark firestrikre ultra, the whole system shut down after the first graphics test loaded. (The test didn't started) Soo.. could it be because the cpu/gpu needed more power (1,3volt cpu/ 120% powertarget gpu) and the cheap powersupply couldn't managed that? On amazon the supply has slmetimes bad reviews. Thanks for help

So, when I only play rainbow six..My pc shuts down for some reason. (in short) First, I had this pc for about a year (even less I think) and I played rainbow six siege on this pc before fine..but some month passed and I went back to play rainbow six and this is when my pc started shutting down when I play rainbow six. Once my pc shuts down i would have to turn it back on. I don't think its temps because again i played rainbow six on the same rig for about 3 months straight without any change (i've played other intense games like pubg,gta vq, etc...)But during this problem i did add new ram and a cpu cooler (thinking it was my cpu temps but didn't help). I messaged ubisoft and they said it was my nvidia driver so i did a fresh install by using DDU and installing geforce experience. But still..my pc shuts down..I've verify the files and uninstalled the game and installed it again. But that didn't help unless i have to do that after i reinstalled my driver. P.s i have never overclocked my pc ever..i do have dual monitors but the problem did happen before dual monitors if that is important (i believe it was before dual monitors) People have been saying it was my psu but again i can play other intense games...And also there was this one time my pc didn't shut down when i was playing rainbow six but that was one day. I don't know what i did or if something happened but just happened. So i did and the load was around 95% (which was normal i think long time ago with the same rig) But after i was playing a match my pc shutdown but something weird happened..i never witnessed. I saw the Blue screen! But it disappeared less than a second and turned to a black screen so i couldnt get any info out of it. I do remember the load on it yesterday..The load was 99% when it shutdown i believe. But today i played rainbow six again My pc shutdown at 91% i believe and it was just a black screen shutdown. The troubshoots i've done: {1. Uninstall the game and Uplay2. Download and Run a Registry Cleaner like Ccleaner3. Restart your PC4. Download and Install the game and Uplay again.5. Launch Uplay and/or Steam as an admin.6. Play the game.} {ubisoft gave me various links to check and download to see if my installations were corrupted or not for example, directx, Microsoft visual c++ 2010, Microsoft visual c++ 2010 SP1, Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 and Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5..After i done this i found out my files were not corrupted.} Right i should add ONCE on these games i got the same shutdown. Overwatch (really long time ago) and GTA V (kind of recent like 2 weeks) but this was ONCE! never happened again! There was this one time too when rainbow six was running fine but i dont know what i did but the next day the shutting down thing was there....Sadly.
