We almost didn’t attend SIGGRAPH, but we had to go when Intel revealed Arc Pro GPUs. Is it everything graphics professionals hoped it would be, and if not, what did Nvidia announce?

Did something happened to the latest Scrapyard Wars? Is there a server malfunction video I haven't watched that lead to the series stopping?

Hello guys. Almost a week ago, I made a third instagram account. I was logged in to all the 3 of them from my phone. Suddenly, other people stories couldn't load on my main account. The others are fine. I tried manually stop instagram from the settings, I cleared the cache, reinstalled it, got an update but nothing. From the pc, I can't see the stories as usual, but not on my phone. I'm running the latest Android and Instagram version ( not beta). Have you got any ideas?

It would be nice to see hobbyist media call out AMD for failing to put products in enthusiasts' hands. Specifically today's abominal launch of the 3950x, where stocks were so short a savvy consumer with buy pages preloaded was unable to get products into e-carts all over the planet. For a hotly anticipated chip that was delayed multiple times one would think some effort be made to get enough product into consumer hands. In reality, in the moments certain sites accidentally went live prior to actual launch, the inventories were wiped out before a launch could even happen. I have read rumors, though not sure if remotely true, of new egg only having 100 chips to sell, and of a distributor in the UK telling a customer only 6 were available to sell in the country. Surely this can't be. Nonetheless, here we are with thousands spent on highest end AM4 builds, waiting for the 3950x to launch; now stuck unable to return anything, as the wait was too long. This screams so loudly of a stunt for good press than a move to please consumers. Linus and gang, please follow up on this topic. -An AMD enthusiast and now FORMER share holder

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, so sorry in advance. I had the idea of the production staff of LTT doing a series on how they do things like set up their cameras and wire hosts for sound in detail. I know they do some of this but i would like to see more because I am currently a student and should know how to do most of it in theory... but don't have the resources or the caliber of equipment that LMG has. its just a thought so... yah, have a nice day.

I think Linus should make the Wan show more "just listening" friendly. There have been many times that I am just listening and then Linus starts using gestures, or screen sharing and I will not understand what he's talking about. So I have to stop what I'm doing, replay the part I missed, and watch it to understand what he's talking about. Please show your support below and try to get this to get noticed so he can use this constructive criticism. Also they should add the wan show to Spotify as a podcast, it would be so much easier.

I would like to make a little complain about WAN Show audio. Audio levels are just too low, but sometimes, especially when @Slick is laughing, it is wayyy to loud and not comfortable to listen, can you do something about it? Maybe if enough peps agree with me, someone like @LinusTech or @nicklmg will notice. cheers !

So, about a year ago, I lost a very strange bet, so I kind of had to write some code that saved all the twitch chat messages from the WAN show. Now that's happened for a year, the graphic shows pretty much what I found. There's a few weeks missing because I forgot about it, but most weeks are recorded. All of the archived messages can be downloaded as well. Whether this keeps happening now YouTube is taking over the WAN show, maybe, but probably not. I still don't really know why I agreed to this....... and, yes, I did call the code 'wanalyse' WAN Show 0917-0818.zip

Linus commented on Safari not having favicons in tabs. You can enable favicon for tabs via preferences. Which can be found here "Show website icons in tabs." Hopefully this can help Safari users if they didn't know this. Cheers.

Hi, So the issue is that the lockscreen slideshow seems to only appear if one of two conditions are met; either the screen time out setting needs to be set to 1 minute or if it's set higher certain programs (mostly games, though they don't need to be in full screen) that when active in the foreground (so actually clicked on the program) the LS SS will appear as normal, if the program is running but I'm say clicked on the desktop it won't work. As far as I'm aware the issue started to occur after I tried out DisplayFusion, not sure if started when I installed or after but I started noticing it after I uninstalled the program. Another thing to note is that when I installed DF my current power plan was set using GPEDIT.MSC. I was speaking to the DF devs but they seem to have gone rather quiet after telling them about the Group Policy setting so I think it might play a part with the issue. I have since set the GP setting back to Not Configured, hasn't made a difference. I've gone through every trouble shooting thing I can think of and can find online, all have led absolutely nowhere so if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them.

Hey Linus! With the insane prices of video cards, we need your help man! Sites like Wish.com have outrageously cheap 1050, 1060, 1070 video cards (under $100!) and it would be a really great video if you bought a slew of them and compared them to their expensive name brand counterparts. It'd make a great video to see if we need to start ordering directly from China and bypassing trying to build a gaming rig with the ultra-expensive name brand cards! You know, until your video and then everyone orders from China!

The Ryzen chipsets can provide decent frame rates for mid range games like League of Legends or Overwatch. Since the higher-end CPU can reach 3.8GHz Marrying this performance with Snapdragon's X16 LTE modems means that laptops could be powerful enough for online gaming over cellular connections. Steam no longer accepts Bitcoin Source 1: posted by VegetableStu https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/870288-steam-no-longer-accepts-bitcoin/ Source 2: https://steamcommunity.com/games/593110/announcements/detail/1464096684955433613 Yes, Steam did in fact accept Bitcoin as payment, but not anymore, due to high fees and volatility in the value of Bitcoin. When Steam first added Bitcoin as a method of payment, transaction fees were roughly $0.20. Now they’ve creeped as high as $20 per transaction. These fees are passed on to the consumer and result in unreasonably high costs for games The value of Bitcoin is only guaranteed for a certain period of time so if the transaction doesn’t complete within that window of time, then the amount of Bitcoin needed to cover the transaction can change. The normal solution is to either refund the original payment to the user, or ask the user to transfer additional funds to cover the remaining balance. In both these cases, the user is hit with the transaction fee again! Steam may re-evaluate accepting BTC at a later date. Google pulls YouTube from Amazon devices (again) Source 1: posted by davrosG6 https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/869948-google-is-pulling-youtube-from-amazon-devices-again/ Source 2: https://techcrunch.com/2017/12/05/google-is-pulling-youtube-from-echo-show-and-fire-tv-as-feud-with-amazon-continues/ Earlier this fall, Google pulled the YouTube app from Amazon’s Echo Show devices due to dissatisfaction with the implementation The app was missing subscriptions, related videos, commenting, sharing, and more But a few weeks ago, YouTube returned to Echo devices- but apparently without Google’s consent! Amazon had apparently built a work-around by implementing the web version of YouTube. This version was also built without Google’s input Google learned about it from the press, like everyone else The new version overlays voice controls on top of the experience, which Google claims is a violation of its Terms of Service Now, Youtube has been pulled from the Echo Show, and FireTV users have been warned that the app will disappear on January 1st. Is the removal temporary? “We’ve been trying to reach agreement with Amazon to give consumers access to each other’s products and services...But Amazon doesn’t carry Google products like Chromecast and Google Home, doesn’t make Prime Video available for Google Cast users, and last month stopped selling some of Nest’s latest products. Given this lack of reciprocity, we are no longer supporting YouTube on Echo Show and FireTV. We hope we can reach an agreement to resolve these issues soon.” Mega Man X Games coming to modern platforms Source 1: posted by SlipperyPete https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/869840-mega-man-x-games-coming-to-pc-switch-ps4-and-xbox-one/ Source 2: https://kotaku.com/mega-man-x-collection-coming-to-ps4-xbox-one-switch-1820983270 Capcom has announced that all eight Mega Man X games are coming to current-gen platforms, including the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, in the summer of 2018. Mega Man X started on the Super Nintendo as a sort of soft-reboot for the classic 2D platforming series. The series spanned across the SNES, PlayStation, and PlayStation 2 before finally ending with Mega Man X8 in 2004. Mega Man Legacy Collections 1 and 2, which together include Mega Man 1 through 10, will come to Switch in 2018. Capcom also announced Mega Man 11 for current-gen platforms. The games are likely to be released separately and not as a collection but this hasn't been confirmed Nintendo games coming to NVIDIA SHIELD in China Source 1: https://www.slashgear.com/nintendo-games-coming-to-nvidia-shield-but-theres-a-catch-05510784/ You’ll soon be able to play Nintendo games on a third-party machine as Nintendo is porting full Wii and GameCube games to the NVIDIA SHIELD which just launched in China. the first three titles are New Super Mario Bros. Wii, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, PUNCH-OUT!! All of these games have been remastered in 1080p for the release. Super Mario Galaxy is planned for release, though we don’t know when. BUT we’ll likely never see these releases outside of China The Switch isn’t available in China so Nintendo is using the Shield as a foot in the door. It is possible that these games will come to the Switch through a virtual console though, as it has similar hardware to the Shield. 2018 iPhone Rumours Source 1: posted by RorzNZ https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/870622-2018-iphone-to-sport-61-display-and-new-colours/ Source 2: https://www.tomsguide.com/us/iphone-2018-lcd-metal-back-colors,news-26231.html edge to edge displays A model with a metallic back and an LCD display. T-Frend is expected to be launched in April, with a target price of around $4,400 a month.

Interesting. Might be worth delving into a bit on the WAN show. Some folks who've bought Ryzen 5 1600 or 1600Xprocessors have found that their chips have two more cores than expected, which can only be described as a massive win on the CPU lottery. These CPUs should have six cores and 12 threads, but reports on Korean forums (spotted by Wccftech) say some users have found they have eight cores (and 16 threads) out of the box. The processors still run at the clock speeds quoted for the 1600X and 1600, but come with a pair of extra cores. http://www.techradar.com/news/some-ryzen-5-1600x-buyers-have-found-their-6-core-cpu-has-8-cores

I am aware that there is a wan show Soundcloud but I was wondering if there is a podcast using the apple podcast app. I prefer that one more. I looked around in the app and I found one but it isn't updated really. Any suggestions?

I have been thinking (which yes, I know is a bad idea) and I would love it if at the end of the WAN show, either in the same stream, or a mandatory afterparty, Linus went through pre-selected threads and replied to them on stream, or atleast, answered questions people had in chat. Not sure if this is the correct format, or the correct location, but I will attempt this anyways..

Dear Linus and Team Techtips. First and always thank you all so much for all your creativity, Hard work, and Passion. So, I am a long time fan, first time post. I have been recently watching Scrapyard Wars which has quickly become my new love. Great job everyone by the way. And thought to myself if I could ask Linus what would it be. Well it would be, Linus I love scrapyard wars, but dont you think most of us probablly buy online or at least like to, would you consider doing a season or episode that is strickly based on buying on Amazon, or Online, or of that nature. Thank you very much for reading this and I wish you all the best. Your Friend in Arizona, USA Garrett, -Svornair.
