Hi, I was wondering what this language was and I wanted to begin learning it because work needs it! I found this on Google Sheets but I'm not certain what language this is. I am suspecting it's SQL but if someone who knows better can verify that, I'd be reassured that I'm not learning something that doesn't apply to understanding what the code is trying to do. =QUERY({'Data Log'!D:D,'Data Log'!H:H,'Data Log'!N:N,'Data Log'!G:G,'Data Log'!F:F,'Data Log'!K:K,'Data Log'!L:L,'Data Log'!O:O,'Data Log'!X:X,'Data Log'!Y:Y,'Data Log'!AB:AB,'Data Log'!I:I},"select Col1,Col2,Col3,Col4,Col5,Col6,Col7,Col8,Col9,Col10,Col11 where Col1 != '' order by Col12,Col1 desc,Col11",1)

I've been looking for a laptop to use in uni (computer science), i have a budget of max 1200€ -ish. After a long search i found this: https://www.dustinhome.fi/product/5010960413/latitude-e5570#specifications (Dell latitude E5570, sorry for finnish site) that satisfies my spec needs, but now i'm wondering if there is some alternative which would be better power/portability/anything for the same or lower price.

Hi, first topic here. In about a year i will start my CS major and i was looking for a good laptop for programming. This mean i need: Fairly light Excellent keyboard Good performance for compiling code, etc. Fairly resistant (It will be moved in my backpack all the time) 14" screen or more Good battery under/around 1000 CAD$ I don't need any graphic card or gaming related stuff, i already have a very powerful PC at home for gaming. (If you think i missed anything, please tell me) I found the Lenovo t460p, but i wanted some feedback. Also, maybe i should just wait and look again in a year time?

I'm trying to run my old Java code in Visual Studio and I installed the Java Language Support extension but when I try to run it, the command window quickly opens and closes. It does it in a flash so I don't know what the output even looks like. Is there a Java equivalent to C++'s System("pause"), is there some settings I need to configure? What can I do to make VS my Java IDE?

So I'm currently a junior in high school with a year of visual basic under my belt and I'm currently learning java in class (it has college credit) and trying to learn c++ whenever I have time at home. For my senior year I can do a self taught class for whatever language I would like to do. I've heard that people can get jobs as a computer programmer without any college education and thats what I'm hoping on doing. I know people who are in college and their lives are full of unneccesary classes for what they want to do and spending entire days trying to get homework done. Honestly if thats what college life would be for me I would love to somehow to pass the college step and just get a job programming. So if any of you have gotten a job programming (with no college education) how did you get the job and what suggestions would you have for someone who just wants to get a job programming?

I'm choosing a new laptop and would love to get some advice/suggestions/opinions. I'll try to keep this short and simple, so here are the bullet points.. Price range: $800 - $1000 (USD) It's a little tricky since prices in my region can differ from the US prices, but this should cover it. What will I use it for: I'm a programmer. I focus mainly on mobile development and so I need to be able to comfortably run an emulator. A typical workload would mean the following applications are running: two IDEs, one instance of 1GB RAM VM (emulator), 10 tabs in Chrome, Spotify and a couple of instances of TotalCommander/Explorer. I want to be able to connect it to an external monitor (1440p or even 4K) over HDMI or DP. I will not be gaming on this laptop. As for other requirements, a Full-HD screen is a must, I don't care about color accuracy, but it should have decent viewing angles. I also need fast storage, an SSD is a must. I don't, however, need much storage space. A 120GB SSD + like 250GB HDD or even a single 240GB SSD would be more than enough space for me. Last thing is the keyboard. I know I can't expect much from a laptop keyboard, but I want to select the best one for me. I don't have much experience with laptop keyboards, so I would love to hear your opinions here, though I realize they will be subjective. Summary of my own research: I decided that I should probably get the best possible processor in this price range. That's the i7-6700HQ. This eliminates the option of small form-factor aluminium laptops (or ultrabooks) which use the U-series dual core chips. Even though I don't intent to game on this laptop at all, I think that I need one with a dedicated GPU since I want the option of connecting a 4K monitor. I know for a fact that integrated graphics on i5 and i7 Haswell desktop chips have trouble handling dual 1440p panels, stuttering when resizing/moving complex apps or choppy animations when switching desktops in Windows 10. I am not sure, however, how integrated graphics compare on deskop vs. mobile processors. My selection: Lenovo Ideapad 700 w/ i7-6700HQ, GTX 950M, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD and 8GB of RAM. Would you suggest another laptop that fits my requirements? How does the Ideapad 700 compare to the more gaming oriented Y700 (The price here is almost the same)?\ Any suggestions and opinions are highly appreciated. Thanks

So... I'm writing DirextX11 application and I can't tell if it is utilizing my GPU because it seems to have very little impact on the GPUs usage, so I was Just wondering if there was a way to check which display adapter it's using. Sorry if it's a stupid question but I'm quite new to DirectX and if someone could point me in the direction of something that could help that would be great. (By the way i'm using a GTX 970 so it my should GPU does support it).

HI awesome LTT community, I am going to start my semester soon and I am looking for a new laptop which is specifically light and is powerful enough so it can last my whole degree. In the laptop keyboard is a factor for me. For comparison I currently have a ASUS-K55a and keyboard in that feels small and it's heavy asf. That laptop will be my main computer mostly doing programming. I am really hoping for a 1080p touchscreen but that almost seems impossible, as a programmer I don't foresee it but the only point I am going after is taking notes on touchscreen. Thoughts on touchscreen appreciated. 4k is too much and scaling sucks. I am not looking for high graphics, decent graphics is good. My budget is $1000 - $1500(max) I have been looking at XPS 13(expensive and 4k touch), Yoga 900(techrader says no pen input and shallow keyboard), Zenbook, Surface(keyboards sucks) and more. But I would love to hear from you guys as these things cost a lot especially in australia. And personal experience is far better anyway. Thanks badasses.

Hey guys! I'm new to the LTT forums and I'm new to C#, Watched 1 Bob Tabor course aprox ~7 hours long about a week and a half ago. I just wanted to see what you guys thought of my code, give me pointers etc. Like the title suggests its a simple Tic-Tac-Toe game that took around an hour or so to program. Also if you have any experience with XNA/Monogame or Unity3D Please tell me where I should go to learn more about either (I'd like to get into game programming).

Creating Regisrty keys in LocalMachine Using Visual Basic
AgentEddie99 posted a topic in Programming
Hi forums, I need some help creating some registry keys in the local machine folder in the registry using the coding language of Visual basic (I know is an old language, but I need to start somewhere). I'm trying to create a key that says "Model" in the OEM Information folder and set the value of that to "Gaming PC" for example. Below is the location of where I want the key to go, the main issue is that the permissions with writing to the local machine because the localmachine is the computer. I would like someone to help me get around the permissions issue. KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OEMInformation Hope that made some sense?! -
Hey! I just join the community and figured I'd get some thoughts on my current dilemma. I'm a software developer looking for a new laptop to program on. I already have a custom built computer I made so the laptop doesn't really need to have any gaming capabilities other than minecraft haha ( if it can't run that, we have a different issue ). I've been a developer for a few years now, and have been working with hardware for over 10 so I'd consider myself very knowledgeable in the field. I sadly don't have much money to spend on laptop, but I know I at least need a i5, 8gb RAM & an SSD. I know ideally I'd want an i7 and 16gb of RAM, but with my current budget, that's just not possible. I'm trying to work my way through college so money is extremely tight, so I've been playing around with the idea of selling my gaming computer so I can afford a better laptop for school/work (I freelance for web and app development). I'd rather not sell my desktop if I really don't need to so any suggestions on good laptops that are on the lower endside would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much, Light

Hello dear Programmers, so im currently taking the cs50 computer science course online on the pset1 (Smart Water). Please don't correct my code, just answer my question otherwise it would be cheating (so answer by saying for ex "you need to start a new line and then multiply 10 with 12 and NOT something like : "write int blabla = blabla ... (so basically do not tell me what code i need to write but do tell me what i need to do. i know very confusing and i'm sorry, english is not my native language.)) This programm is calculating how many bottles of water you use while showering (in minutes). 1 #include <cs50.h> 2 #include <stdio.h> 3 int main (void) 4 { 5 printf("How many mintues do you need to shower? :"); 6 float f = GetFloat(); 7 8 float b = 192 / 16 = 12 (f*b) 9 10 } what i want to do is : in line 8 i am dividing 192/16 and that is 12 so in one minute you use around 12 bottles of water. Now i wanted to multiply 12 with the amount of minutes the user stated above (that's what i tried to do i know my way is wrong tho XD)

Hey everyone! I really need advise on buying a PC with my budget of $700 CAD. The main purpose for the PC would be to do Android programming and also some Java developing, which I know will require a good CPU. However, I'm debating between RAM and CPU, here are my two current options Get an i7–4790 (@4.0 Ghz) with 8GB of RAM + 1TB HDD Get an i5–6400 (@3.3Ghz) with 12GB of RAM + 1 TB HDD Anything you would recommend! (Canada only) The i7 is much faster than the i5 and that is what's holding me back. The base clock of the i5 is actually 2.7 Ghz, which is horrible. Whereas the i7 base clock is 3.4 Ghz. I preferably don't want to overclock as it'll create extra heat and noise. Aside from Android and Java programming, I'll probably have causal productivity applications; Office suite, Adobe suite and more for editing videos and images. Please give me any possible advice on buying my developing/programming computer, I would really, really appreciate it!

Hi guys, so I am very new to object oriented programming, or any programming in that matter and I have not figured it out quite yet, can you tell me whats wrong here? class TrafficLight: def __init__(self, redlight, yellowlight, greenlight): self.redlight = redlight self.yellowlight = yellowlight self.greenlight = greenlight def show_status(self): print("Redlight: ", str(redlight)) print("Yellowlight: ", str(yellowlight)) print("Greenlight: ", str(greenlight)) tlight_0 = TrafficLight(0, 0, 1) tlight_0.show_status() So as you can see I want the traffic light to print its status regarding each light, but as it seems the function "show_status" cannot see the values I set in __init__, how do I make it so it can see them? line 9, in show_status print("Redlight: ", str(redlight)) NameError: name 'redlight' is not defined I am sure its pretty easy, sorry if its cringing you out! EDIT: Python 3.5

Someone said he'd consider upgrading his system if I could make a build of ~€500 (I'm in the Netherlands), so I came up with this: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-6400 2.7GHz Quad-Core Processor (€192.55) Motherboard: Asus H110I-PLUS (€76.90) Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory (€43.90) Storage: Crucial BX200 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (€69.99) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (€52.90) Case: Silverstone Sugo SG13B Mini ITX Tower Case (€53.95) Power Supply: Cooler Master G450M (€55.90) Total: €546.09 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-07-10 17:48 CEST+0200 It will mostly be used for programming and running simulations so medium load often to a bit more demanding stuff once in a while. My aim was to make something close to the computers we use at university, running: CPU: Intel Core i7 4771 @ 3.50 GHz RAM: 8 GB (brand most likely Kingston, speed I don't know) He only said it should be able to use two screens, which the mobo can do if I did my research correctly. I realize that 450 W is probaly too much, but I went with that just in case a GPU might be added later. I'd like to hear from you what you think of it , any suggestions? It will run linux.

I am currently designing and programming a video game and came to an impasse. if you could post what you look for in a video game or ideas for video games that would be super helpful. P.S. if this does somehow do very well we will post the names of those who helped in an easter egg.

Hello all,, I am going to do my master thesis next year, and I am probably going to do a project about Information retrieval. Since this involves a lot of data, "regular" programming is not going to suffice for a big project. Therefor I want to learn how to program using the CUDA cores on my GTX 950. Is there anyone who has learnt this and who can tell me what a good way/site/book to learn this is? Also, would it be an idea to include some benchmark for GPU programming on big data to GPU reviews, especially since NVIDIA's new architecture is even advertised with the improvements for GPU programming for big data and artificial intelligence applications? I am thinking about trading my gtx 950 in for a Pascal GPU (once the budget models are out) but I have no idea where I could find information about the performance of the cards in these kind of scenario's. Maybe we can force Luke to cover it when he reviews the Pascal GPU's. Thanks

Hello Guys, I plan on building a hexacopter so thats my background on this. As the title says I wanna build an intelligent Charger / battery sustainer with an arduino or similar board. I can also build it completely on my own because i can make doublesided prints. What I hope you guys can give me: Suggestions on how to do it maybe a schematic / programm which would do the job if autodetection is not possible i would add a switch to change the setting according to the battery (voltage/cells) It should work kinda like this: over a switch you can set charging mode or sustain mode + a small display to set the current percentage of the battery and the best spot for storing the battery connect battery --> detect 6s/4s --> charge if battery has reached 75% (or best spot for battery to stay in) --> check switch state charging mode: load it till 100% and keep it there sustain mode: discharge 10% and reload it (repeat) Thanks, Akadis
