im currently exploring parts for part of a server project. in which im aiming for several TB of capacity, and have it , in part, function as a file/ streaming server, using 4 HDD's. Im planning to use a raid 10 config to do it, but what im not sure on is this. would the built in controller on a board like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUS-P9X79-LGA-2011-Socket-R-Intel-Motherboard/323050513655?epid=127392280&hash=item4b374fa4f7:g:scAAAOSwl2haQXc- be enough? the 4 sata ports i think i would have to use are sata 300. will that be fast enough for file storage/ media streaming, or should i look into an add in raid card? thanks in advance.

Don't know if this has been shared here yet but this is some crazy port design on a laptop. I foresee a lot of warranty calls in the future for Fujitsu. Although this feels like the mech of ethernet ports. I'm surprised it doesn't have an anime made about it. Original Post by @decryption on twitter.

Hi I need to clone Many USBS. Problem is that USB Duplicators are bit pricey. I figured I can built my own PCIE or pci Expansion Cards. Maybe Put 10 of them onto a single computer. Many of them say "Compliant with Single-Lane (x1) PCI-Express throughput up to 5Gbps." So can i use x16 of these cards on a x16pci slots? Or any other recommendations?

Hello peeps, Having a bad time with learning this networking malarkey moving from a marked dislike to software and programming, I'm a simple fella, I like my hardware and my hands, not so much when it comes to software. Sure I love Linux and the terminal, but telling a PC what to do with commands isn't much different than a GUI so I don't count that. Much like that, networking is something I know my way around better than most but no where near enough it seems, as TCP protocol onports are open but UDP protocol fails, I tried in the Linux Game Server Manager page ion Github, but had little success working out a solution but maybe found a lead as to why. (hyperlink https://github.com/GameServerManagers/LinuxGSM/issues/1099#issuecomment-251620542). I port forwarded Minecraft ok, being a TCP game it worked well, but a Rust server I tried failed. I have all firewalls off (I had them on low but putting them off didn't make much difference) and tried the basic stuff, but we think we narrowed it down to my router/gateway unit. It is a Huawai HG658c from Vodafone, actually not a terrible unit with ok WiFi, but has a lot of settings you could loose a dog in, any help would be very much appreciated --Joshua.

Hey guys, so I'm having issues with my three monitor setup right now. I have an AMD R9 270 MSI edition. I have two main monitors which I use all the time, Both are ASUS 21.5 inch monitors. One of them (my main one) is connected through HDMI. The other is connected through VGA with a vga to dvi adapter connected on the gfx card. I want to use my tv as a third monitor to duplicate my first when I feel like sitting down and playing something on the big screen. That is currently connected through a DVI to HDMI cord which has a DVI to display port adapter connected to the gfx card (This means it's using the dsp port from the gfx card to dvi, then theres a dvi to hdmi cable which connects to the TV). Recap: Monitor 1 (HDMI cable) Monitor 2 (VGA cable: VGA to DVI adapter) TV (HDMI-DVI cable: DVI to Display port adapter) I've read around and heard that I need an active adapter to use all 3 displays. I have no clue whether or not this dsp to dvi is active or not but I believe its the one that came with my gfx card this is it http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/122001300709?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true (It's very possible that this didn't come with my gfx card} Here are screenshots of what I'm seeing. Display 1 is the TV And that's what I want to happen but... \ This pops up :'( Any help is greatly appreciated

How i can foward 2 ports in the same ip (PD: my router is dpq3925)
-
I have checked http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ and many other open port checking website which all show that every port is closed. I have tried factory resetting my router but that doesn't seem to help. Since there are 2 ports where the internet line comes out of in my home (in different rooms), I have tried both of them. Any Idea how to fix this?

Hey, I'm here to ask a question from all you networking genies. I have just finished a small test web page and I have it running on a Raspberry Pi. I tried to open my routers port 80 to make it visible, but it turns out my ISP only allows ports 1024-65536 and even those don't seem to work for me. But also I figured out that with IPv6 there are no such limitations on port 80 from my ISP. So I figured I'll make my page IPv6-only, since most of my traffic will be from techies anyways. (If I get any :D) I got the Apache2 server working with IPv6 and now I can access the page from within my own local network using the IPv6 address. Now, how do I make my global IPv6 to show my web page? Any ideas are appreciated

Laptop usb ports randomly cutting out
Lord_Karango17 posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
So I recently did a reinstall of windows on my laptop in preparation for using it as a daily over the summer. After this, I notices something fairly quickly. I use a lot of external media (2 external ssds and 2 external hdds), and while these were being used, the usb ports on the laptop would cut out for a few seconds. This happens over all the usb ports, as my external keyboard goes dark, and my mouse stops working as well. Razer does not have any specific usb drivers, and I installed all the drivers that were available (excluding the graphics related ones that i got off nvidia's website). After a bit of research, a lot of people said it was a usb 3 power saving measure derping out, so I disabled anything related to usb power savings, and I also disabled "legacy usb support" in the bios to no avail. It just cut out on me while typing this, because origin opened in the background and accessed the hdd. -
I have an MSI X99A Godlike Gaming motherboard and I really wanted to install a Thunderbolt expansion card. Will just plugging one into my pcie slot make it happen or do I have to have a TB header? Any thoughts?

I want a new stylish PC case, but all I can find are either good looking cases with only 2 USB ports or ugly ones with enough ports. My price range is up to 180€/$ and I need enough ports, at least 5 USB 3.0/2.0. I would like to have some lights installed in it, preferably in red but not necessarily. Thank you :-)

I have an MSI 980ti Gaming 6G and my case is an S340. Neither manual was helpful with this: are the "prongs" at the bottom of the HDMI/VGA/DisplayPort outputs supposed to go between the motherboard and case? It feels wrong but I haven't figured out if it is. Edit: Thank you guys so much! I couldn't find anything about this online but I got answers here instantly. Also, if I dropped the GPU on the mobo (like lightly, not a drop but more of a very slight fall) could it damage anything? It was really light, it fell like 2 inches.

Hey Guys, My laptop is a little old, and when ever I am in skype calls etc, my friends complain about the static in my mic, I thought it was just a headset problem but after trying several audio devices the static was still there. Also my audio out does something similar where if the wire is being moved around, you hear static, and cut out. I took a look at the port itself and noticed that there were little stains or rust patches on the outside part of the jack which I just figured it was the same case inside the jack which is causing all this static. I looked online about fixes and many stated shove a needle in the jack and scratch it out, which I feel uncomfortable doing, I just wanted to see if anyone else has a better way to clean it. Thanks In Advance Joseph

I currently have a 60hz asus monitor that gets the job done for everyday things. But I am looking for a 144hz monitor for CS:GO. I am wanting to get the BenQ XL Series XL2411Z. The only issue is that I don't know how to have the 144hz without a display port. The monitor has an hdmi (Wich i believe cant push 144hz) and a dual link DVI port. I am a noob when it comes to monitors and really hardware in general. I believe my gpu has a dual link and a normal dvi. But I want to make sure the monitor will work before I buy it. TLDR Does DL-DVI do the 144hz im looking for and how can ensure my gpu has aDL-DVI port. Thanks for the help

Hi all, So I need some help with my Windows server 2012 R2, I'm currently using it as a Plex Media server as well as storage server for docs etc, I'm very familiar with the O/S so am OK in that respect my issue is with Port security and access to my server remotely. I'm using the anywhere access that comes with the O/S and my current Router is an Asus DSL-AC68 - I have opened ports 443 (for Anywhere Access) and 32400 (for Plex) and everything works fine, my issue is that someone is managing to get into my network when these ports are open. The firewall in the router is on, I have anti-virus on the server an the windows firewall on yet somehow someone can manage to connect as I've noticed through the router. My question is, how do I have the ports open so as I can use these services but block them from people getting in? I have experience with pfsense also and was contemplating putting one of those in instead of the Asus however my question still stands, if I open the ports to use the services does it make any difference how good my firewall/router is? Thanks for any help you can supply on this, I'm really trying to get to grips with internet/server security.

So with the launch of Windows 10, end user license agreements have changed dramatically. Microsoft is attempting to to change the way they are selling their software - not as a product, but rather as a service. Microsoft account integration, Cortana, DirectX 12 being exclusive to Windows 10 are just a few things power users aren't too happy about. And lately, there has been proofs of Windows 10 trying to connect to Microsoft's serves without being given any kind of instruction to do so. This raises questions on whether the software you bought can be considered your property, or even safe/private enough to be trusted. Many people decided to jump ship for this particular reason. In 2016, casual computer users will find most of the software that works on Windows work on Linux aswell, or have an open-source alternative, but there are still certain programs that have neither Linux port or open-source alternative. The purpose of this thread is to point out the kind of software Linux lacks the most and educate the LTT community on open-source alternatives Linux already supports. Hopefully this thread can help open-source developers understand the needs of Linux community and/or extend the list of alternative software on the amazing thread by rashdanml. The rules: No games or drivers - it is too simple to point out all of this software and too hard for the open-source community to actually write proper alternatives (DRM). Maybe in a separate thread. Try not to point out software that has a Linux alternative which is not just as functional. That means open-source community is aware of the need for software of such kind and is working on it The lower list will be updated as LTT community posts their suggestions I might decide to add a rule or two in order to keep conversation constructive The list: Flawless Widescreen MSI Afterburner Text-to-speech applications DaVinci Resolve Please, leave a comment about what you would want to be ported over to Linux, so we can improve the list!

So I just finished building my first PC, and most everything is running smoothly. But there's three problems: 1) All the USB 3.0 ports don't work. The one in the front, the ones on the MoBo, none of them. They're all just not functional. The USB 3.0 plug from the front is plugged in to the MoBo (It's plugged into JUSB3) so I don't know what's up. 2) All the audio ports don't work. It's the same story as the USB 3.0 ports. They just don't work. The HD audio is plugged in to the port on the MoBo, so I don't know what's going on. Maybe these two are connected in some way. 3) My monitor is wonky. What I mean by this is that my entire display is shifted slightly to the upper left-hand corner. This causes some of the upper left-hand corner to get cut off, and I have weird black borders on the bottom and right hand side. The resolution is fine (To my knowledge. It's hard to tell if it's OK when it's partially cut off) but it's all just shifted, and not being able to see the "x" and "-" in my browser is bothering me. Any help on these topics is appreciated. Thanks!

So I just recently bought a GTX 960 it comes with Dual link DVI, Display Port and HDMI. My monitor only has VGA connector , so should I buy a DVI cable? or is it better to buy a DVI to HDMI cable?. Thanks for the help.

Hello guys, I set up a filezilla server on my main pc so that I can watch all my movies on my phone and anywhere else in my house. I don't want it to be open to the web. The problem I have is that I keep getting the error message 425 can't open data connection transfer. For some reason I only don't get the error when I choose to open all ports in the windows firewall, but I'm afraid of being vulnerable to internet attacks. I set my server to port 64648 and set 64448-64649 as passive ports for transfer. Any help would be appreciated with getting the server running with the lease vulnerabilities. Cheers

Hey guys. I've been trying to set up a Teamspeak 3 server recently and I'm having some trouble getting one of the ports forwarded. My router is an ASUS RT-AC68U and my computer is connected directly to that via ethernet, and the router is connected to the modem my ISP gave me. I haven't modified the firewall on my computer. Also, the firewall on my router is enabled if that information helps. The ports I need to open are ports 9987, 10011. and 30033. Here's a screenshot of how I configured that in my router's settings: http://puu.sh/k3v4r/0c6dfc34db.png I used http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ to check my ports, and for some odd reason, ports 10011 and 30033 are open, but not 9987. I can't seem to get port 9987 to open for some reason, yet it's using the exact same settings as the other two ports. Why is this the case? Is my ISP blocking that port? I've tried various other ports around it like 9980, 9985, and 9988 and none of them work either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I was just wondering, my motherboard has more than 2 USB ports, but my case appears to have only has 2 sockets on it. Should I look in to a different case or something else?
