Hello, My mother has given me a Mac to fix and I can't get around a problem. My little brother tried to put Windows on it, not for games, he's tied between platforms because of his studies. Every time I turn the Mac on I get presented with: "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key" You are thinking "command - option" right? Well it's a stupid wireless keyboard which seems to be out of sync. I thought Windows keyboards were compatible but it doesn't even power on (Num-Caps lock lights dead). Is the only way to fix this now is to buy an apple wired keyboard? I have access to my PC and another Mac if there is another way. Thanks people

i have a 2010 mac pro with a sonnet Tempo SSD card. when i use this i get much better speeds because of the sata 2 limitations that the motherboard has, but when i install this card and use it the mac detects it as an external drive but the worst part is when i hold alt at boot it wont show the boot drives anymore only the mouse pointer and a white screen. So if someone could help with this issue that would be nice so i can dual boot back to linux and windows. Also a bonus if you could help with the drive showing as internal. Already a big thanks

I have been developing an app on my OSX Sierra Guest (Windows 10 Host) and after updating VMWare Workstation, I get that first image during the VMWare boot screen, and that second image (Kernel Panic) during the apple logo boot screen. For some reason, recovery mode isn't working (I am holding Windows+R while it boots, right?).

I was doing some thinking after a moderator pointed out that i was not allowed to talk about "how" to install OSX on non-apple hardware in my article about my hackintosh. It got me wondering what exactly about it is illegal. For example, OSX is a free download from the app store, which requires a legit mac in the first place, so is any piracy taking place here ? Secondly, TMx86 seems to indicate that using his particular tools will somehow give you immunity to any legal issues. And Finally, does it actually say anywhere in Apple's EULA that you are breaking the law by installing OSX on your own hardware, that you own ? Or is it more a suggestion that you won't receive updates or support if you do so ? The whole thing seems like a really grey area, totally falls into the category of "ill do what i damn well please with the hardware that i bought with my own money, it's mine" Can anyone shed some light on this ?

This has been the most painfully irritating build i have ever attempted, but i finally have a desktop machine that can boot Linux Mint 18, OSX Sierra and Windows 10, but it has many quirks. I noticed that triple/quad booting has been asked about on the web for years but nobody has ever really done a good case study of how on earth you do it, least of all with pictures and guides. Ill just give a quick run down of what we have here. The machine is a lenovo thinkcenter E73 tower, OEM machine with only upgrade being the 9800GT, it has a 128GB sata SSD and a 1TB HDD. First step was to install the hackintosh on the entire SSD using clover and the fantastic instructions on TonyMacx86. Spend weeks trying to figure out how kexts work and getting the nvidia web driver to run persistently, a basic tutorial on clover configurator comes in handy here. So once OSX was installed, i then introduced the 1TB HDD to the system and installed windows 10 on it in the usual manner, just boot off the USB stick and give windows the entire 1TB. From here on i believe you are at the mercy of your UEFI whether the windows bootloader makes it onto the SSD where it should go, or whether windows craps out and put it on the HDD. In my case windows put it's bootloader into the EFI partition of the SSD, therefore clover was able to see it and i was instantly given a windows option in clover. 2 down one to go. Finally in order to cram linux mint onto the machine, i refrained from shrinking the NTFS partition from within windows as this screwed everything the first time i did it, partition table went completely out of whack. instead, at this point simply boot off the live Mint setup USB, and proceed to install, Mint will detect the windows bootloader (but not the OSX one) and prompt you to install alongside windows. At this point i used the linux setup to cut the 1TB in half and installed mint into the second half. When mint has finished installing, reboot into clover and you should now have a linux boot option. In my case, the installation of linux destroyed my ability to boot windows from clover, but i was still able to boot windows from grub, which appears after you select linux from clover, ugly i know. The fix i found for this was to boot back into Mint and run sudo update-grub, which then rejiggers all the bootloaders around into their right places, after this, i was able to boot all 3 OS's from clover, as well as the OSX recovery partition (doesn't quite count as a quad-boot right ?) The main issue i found with this project was the trial and error nature of screwing up bootloaders and having to start again, clover is a bit fragile when it comes to making it boot more than just OSX. Essentially this machine went through about 5 iterations before it was finally stable. In summary, windows 10 and Mint run perfectly on the hardware as you would expect, but that's the easy bit, the challenge lies with making OSX happy with "peasant grade" non proprietary hardware, and this almost entirely revolves around onboard realtek audio. From what i can tell, clover has kexts for basically any realtek 3.5mm jack bay that has 5 ports, but seeing as i have this weird OEM machine, i only have a bay of 3 x 3.5mm jacks, and this is tragically not supported AFAIK. i solved this by cannibalising a USB DAC, velcro-ing it to the floor of the case, and running XLR's out of the rear I/O, looks janky as hell but works a charm, and the sound quality is far superior to the onboard anyway. One final thing i was unable to get working within OSX was hardware reporting like CPU temps and stuff, from what i can tell this is all low-level apple kernel stuff that goes over my head, but hopefully someone can make or port a kext for this functionality. Thanks for reading anyway guys i just wanted to share what i learnt building this frankenstein PC, as i know many of you are interested in the concept of multiple OS's on a PC, but are maybe confused as to where you even start. Fellow Techies, I came into my office area and opened my Macbook Air to pickup where I left off on a few things that I am working on. When I pressed a random key to wake up the computer, it looked like I had taken LSD mixed with Benadryl (no I have not taken that mixture...yet) and it freaked me out and so I quickly turned off the computer and turned it back on before thinking of taking a picture or what may happen when it comes back on. The screen turned back to normal but has me scratching my head. Can anyone maybe give me a little insight? Am I going to have to look at getting the screen replaced or getting a new Macbook (insert any Mid-2012 to 2015 model here)? It would be nice to get a bigger screen. Thank you in advance.

After running this macbook on powerchord only because of an broken battery i finaly decided to buy a new battery but now when it arrived it doesn't work correctly. The battery simply refuses to charge and says "Replace now, Not charging 8%". Things i've tried: SMC Reset PRAM Reset Booting into Linux Mint and it said "Charging - Fully charged 8%" (It wasn't charging) Unplugging AC while OS was on and it just simply died with no difference next boot. Macbok pro 2011 (I think) Battery: battery A1322 (I know it's compatible) (Same as the original broken one)

This thread is about why you love Apple's OSX. Why do you love it? Do you prefer it over Windows? What do you dislike? Do you find yourself all alone in an ocean of Windows or Linux, or do you find yourself with the majority of illuminated apple logos? Where could they improve? What could they bring back? What was your first Apple computer, where did you get it, how much did you buy it for, and what was it like when you first started it up? No we are not Apple fanatics, we are not silver metal casing and white illuminating logo lovers, we just prefer things a little.... well you will find out what the last word will be. My first apple product that I got was an old iMac. I don't remember the specs or year but it had the clear plastic all over it. I remember powering it on... wow. Plus it was free (it might have been stolen.... but who knows). The previous owner did not wipe the hdd. So a quick call to apple and $20 later I had some software on the way. I tell ya that was a awesome feeling. Installing the software and seeing all the animation was intoxicating. Windows could learn a thing or two from Apple. I hated to see it go, but $75 bucks wasn't too bad. My first purchased Apple computer was a 2012 Macbook Air 11 inch. I love this thing. I got for $400 from a classmate on the second semester of college. The feeling of powering it on and playing with updated software... ohhhh gives me a hard on. I love it because it is simple (took a little getting use to but with some homework I wasn't doing too bad). The OS doesn't take much resources like windows does. It is clean looking and I like that. Would I replace my Windows pc... nope. I love my Win. 7 pc. I will never let it go unless it's reached it's end like Win XP has. Software running of XP is impossible. I find myself to be in a mix of both windows and mac. I never see linux out in college. I don't have any hates just a few dislikes like how you have to go around your elbow to get to your thumb for certain tasks or finding things, or getting to a certain file or program or moving something. The command button is not placed in a good spot. Please share your experience.

Hi everybody. I am in desperate need of help as I am selling my 2012 Macbook Pro. I had already wiped the hdd and had prepared an install dvd with os x lion (being imo the least intensive and still modern looking osx variant). I tested the dvd by booting the mac to it once and saw it worked perfectly. After wiping the HDD however, the mac will no longer boot to the dvd. It shows the apple logo and the spinning grey ball. It will stay like this forever until i force it to shut down. I don't understand why it does this. The Hitachi drive in the mac has 1 large empty partition with the mac os extended (journaled) format. I can't install Lion from the web as i have had to delete the email linked to the itunes account on which I purchased the os. Really a bummer. I have tried doing the same with the dmg file on a guid partitioned usb to get the same result again. Thanks for your help.

Hi everyone, I'm really lost with the whole ProRes on windows thing. I know I won't get native encoding on apps such as Media Encoder or DaVinci Resolve so I'm working on finding workarounds. Some people suggested me that I should install OSX on a separate SSD in my PC so I can use the same machine to Export my projects in ProRes (Not that I personally want to... But the client... Well the old story...) MY QUESTION IS: Will I able to install OSX on my system? I've been researching this and I'm having a hard time making sure. Some people say there is no driver support for the new pascal architecture and others say it should work just fine. Can anybody help me out? MB: Asus X99 A-II x2 Crucial 1TB SSD CPU: Intel i7 5820K GPU: ASUS Strix GTX 1070 (Pascal) RAM: 32GB DDR4 Memory And a good PSU. What OS should I install? Is there another good option to get ProRes encoding on windows? I Know about Cinec and Plin, but if I have to manually convert already exported files I will use my old MacBook... All input will be appreciated! Merci!

Hey guys. I am planning on building a hackintosh for video editing&VFX and photo editing(no 3d). I don't care too much for gaming... I want the hackintosh for FCPX and also adobe premiere pro and after effects. FCPX should be my main one but I will spend a lot of time in Premiere as well I think if it turns out to be more reliable than it was before... Can someone help me put together a good part list? That would be really great. Also, it would be great if someone could tell me about the process of hackintoshing. Like whether I should use clover/multibeast.ect, cause im really confused. My budget is around 600USD. Max 650USD. I heard that for final cut pro, AMD GPUs would be better, and for premiere, Nvidia would be better because of CUDA. If I go with and Nvidia card, does anyone know how to tweak the card/tweak FCPX to use CUDA better for better performance? Thanks!

Hello! I am trying to decide which monitors to get for programming. I am going to be using a late 2013 maxed out macbook pro. I will be doing mainly iOS, Android, and Web development. I have a $500, I can probably go up a bit more though. One note, I do not want 3 monitors. Either 2 or one. Thanks!

Hello! Im having problems installing OSX El Capitan. First of all, when I run Unibeast, It takes ages and I end up with two volumes, one called USB (The one I named in Unibeast) and "EFI". I've watched videos and read posts and no one seems to have the second one. Then, when I try to run it on the pc in clover, the apple logo appears and it loads half way and then it black screens. It's very frustrating because just a few months ago I got it to load the os and install everthing... (Then I screwed it up somehow.) I tried booting in verbose mode and took a pic, but still don't understant it.I have two drives a 500gb ssd and a 1tb hdd. Also, ive heard that it's a good idea to use a 2.0 port but my motherboard and case only have 3.0 ones. A few months back I installed linux to make sure the hardware is fine (and it is.) but after that I took the ssd and formated it on this pc. I was tupid knowing that when installing osx it formats it anyway but I have a feeling I may have formated it badly. Any Ideas?

Hi guys, I was wondering if I could install MacOS Sierra on a Windows 10 Desktop PC, I have W10 on an SSD (850 EVO 500 GB) and I would like to install MacOS Sierra on my 840 EVO 500 GB and to have the option to dualboot between both after the UEFI BIOS screen, I have a Macbook to legaly download all the stuff I need (which I don't know). My desktop Specs: i7 4790K @ 4.8 GHz 32 GB DDR3 Kingston HyperX Fury 1600 MHz CL10 Gigabyte Z97X-Gamging 3 Motherboard GTX 1070 G1 Gaming W10 Drive: Samsung 850 EVO SSD 500GB The main reason I would like to do this is to decode H.265 files (no playback) because I can only use the decoder of the GTX 1070 to decode them during playback, but for example if I use any software (dvd fab, premiere pro, media encoder etc) and take a H.265 file and Output it into a H.265 file the decoder will not work, it's not NVIDIA, it's Windows 10 (tried on 7 and 8 and it worked fine but I would like to have OSX for a change along Windows). If I get a H.265 file and output it into a H.264 the decoder also doesn't work but at least the CPU H.264 decoder works and takes 15 minutes, but from H.265 to H.265 (Compressing Bitrate) it takes at least about 4 hours (and it's a 4790K Overclocked to 4.8 GHz) So I would like to know if the HEVC H.265 decoder is supported on OSX El capitan or MacOS Sierra because otherwise my whole process would be useless and I'm well served installing Windows 8.1 and using it when I have to Decode and Encode H.265. Thank you in advance, I know it's not an easy thread to answer and I know the complexity of what I'm asking.

At the production studio I recently started to work we are trying to repurpose a 2009 Mac Pro Tower to be a simple file server for us. We added a compatible Fiber Channel Card (an Apple brand one, no less) and it is recognized in the system perfectly, as are the ones in the other 2010 Mac Pro Towers we use as editing Bays. We have OS X Server El Capitan installed onto the server and all up to date. I can start XSAN on the Server but it fails to initialize with Error Code 13. I have looked and cannot find this error code in reference to Server/XSAN. After this error though, it shows that XSAN has been configured an is running fine. It then allows me to add a volume to the XSAN but at the same time it does not. It wants me to add a LUN to the list but I do not have any nor does it allow me to create one. Documentation on this is sparse in my research. I am looking to Just share the internal drive(s) on the machine over fiber as Ethernet is far too slow for our purposes. We plan on having a more robust solution in the future using these same fiber cards but for now we don't have a large NAS or something similar. Hoping some of you guys have some advice or help for me on this front. Apple stuff always seems to be so difficult when it comes to self configuration with little documentation to find. Thank you! We are losing our minds over here....

Hey guys I want to make basic tutorials for people who own a Mac computer but don't know much about technology. The problem is, I'm not exactly sure what non tech people will want to know (apart from how to turn on their computer haha) Any ideas? Thanks

I have a friend that left their macbook pro with me where after updating, the cursor is stuck on the colorful loading wheel and you cant click on anything. It is pretty much unusable, but I am not very experienced with OS X and would like some help on what to do and how i would go about fixing it.

I do a lot of web work and digital content marketing, and the only program I cant seem to find a replacement for is Coda. Anyone know of a full package application that would work as a good replacement? Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, I need help installing Windows 10 on a Macbook pro. I just bought a samsung 850 evo 500gb, and I haven't installed it yet. I am trying to figure out how to get Windows 10 on it so that I can use it on my mac because I don't like OS X. I would like to be able to do this without using Bootcamp because it will make Windows take longer to load. If it is possible I would like to only have the Windows partition, to avoid the need of an OS X partition. Does anybody know if I could just plug the windows 10 flash drive into the mac and boot it to the new SSD and just use that? Also I was looking at this guide but it still uses Bootcamp? http://fgimian.github.io/blog/2016/03/12/installing-windows-10-on-a-mac-without-bootcamp/ Thanks for any help you can provide.
