Today I have another "why is this faster than this?" because I have nothing else to do in my life. Like seriously, you all might get tired replying my posts because all I say does not even really matter, but once I get this question in my head, it will bother me so I can't stop. You know how "ptr" is the same as "*(ptr + i)"? Upon testing, looks like it is not. And the difference is actually something I can talk about. clock_gettime(CLOCK_MONOTONIC, &start); for (int i = 0; i < iteration; i++){ for (int i = 0; str[i]; i++); } clock_gettime(CLOCK_MONOTONIC, &end); printf("%ld\n", end.tv_nsec - start.tv_nsec); clock_gettime(CLOCK_MONOTONIC, &start); for (int i = 0; i < iteration; i++){ for (int i = 0; *(str + i); i++); } clock_gettime(CLOCK_MONOTONIC, &end); printf("%ld\n", end.tv_nsec - start.tv_nsec); This is only a snippet of my main because the string is so BIG it almost crashes VSCode. Anyways, the second loop is quite a bit faster than the first. First loop uses array indexing whereas the second loop uses pointer arithmetic. Ah yes, the assembly code. Only if I could read it! main: pushq %rbp .seh_pushreg %rbp movq %rsp, %rbp .seh_setframe %rbp, 0 subq $96, %rsp .seh_stackalloc 96 .seh_endprologue call __main leaq .LC0(%rip), %rax movq %rax, -24(%rbp) leaq -48(%rbp), %rax movq %rax, %rdx movl $1, %ecx call clock_gettime movl $0, -4(%rbp) jmp .L4 .L7: movl $0, -8(%rbp) jmp .L5 .L6: addl $1, -8(%rbp) .L5: movl -8(%rbp), %eax cltq movq -24(%rbp), %rdx addq %rdx, %rax movzbl (%rax), %eax testb %al, %al jne .L6 addl $1, -4(%rbp) .L4: cmpl $0, -4(%rbp) jle .L7 leaq -64(%rbp), %rax movq %rax, %rdx movl $1, %ecx call clock_gettime movl -56(%rbp), %eax movl -40(%rbp), %edx subl %edx, %eax movl %eax, %edx leaq .LC1(%rip), %rax movq %rax, %rcx call printf leaq -48(%rbp), %rax movq %rax, %rdx movl $1, %ecx call clock_gettime movl $0, -12(%rbp) jmp .L8 .L11: movl $0, -16(%rbp) jmp .L9 .L10: addl $1, -16(%rbp) .L9: movl -16(%rbp), %eax cltq movq -24(%rbp), %rdx addq %rdx, %rax movzbl (%rax), %eax testb %al, %al jne .L10 addl $1, -12(%rbp) .L8: cmpl $0, -12(%rbp) jle .L11 leaq -64(%rbp), %rax movq %rax, %rdx movl $1, %ecx call clock_gettime movl -56(%rbp), %eax movl -40(%rbp), %edx subl %edx, %eax movl %eax, %edx leaq .LC1(%rip), %rax movq %rax, %rcx call printf movl $0, %eax addq $96, %rsp popq %rbp ret This is the only part which seems to be relevant.

I'm wanting to prepare my build for higher FPS in Counter-Strike because I'm getting a 360hz monitor delivered tomorrow. I ran benchmarks for like two hours earlier today, and I believe I'm getting CPU bottlenecked, but I can't tell. Running at all high settings at 1080p gets me around 230FPS, but the whole time my CPU isn't getting above 30% usage. My GPU fluctuates between 40% and 80% throughout the test, mostly dipping in FPS when going through the smoke on the workshop map. I've also considered my memory as an issue, as I'm running mismatched 4GB sticks in dual-channel and one 16GB stick in single. I also have a somewhat cheap motherboard, so I don't know how much benefit I'll really have from just upgrading my CPU, if that's my issue. Hi Right now I'm choosing my pc and I'm at the stage of choosing my gpu. I want a pc optimized for playing COD and I heard cod would be more optimized on amd than nvidia so I looked at the bench (which I obviously take with a grain of salt) and it turns out rather TRUE. I made a choice between the 4070 ti and the 7900 xt. And I wanted to know your opinion. Configuring my pc 13700 kf 32GB 3200MHz thank you for your reply

What performance am I leaving on the table?
kingfurykiller posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Budget (including currency): $2500 (already invested, over 5 years) Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming (1080p, closest to 144hz I can get, best setting I can get). Most demanding title I own is Halo Infinite, Assassin's creed games coming next. Some office/admin work; web-browsing, discord, VERY light virtualization while I try to teach myself linux, some network simulation software. Possible blu-ray ripping in the future. Other details: I have already completed this build, I am looking to know what I can adjust to get the most out of the core components: Full details are in my profile, but here are the core bits: i7-7700k (cooled by Hyper Evo 212, stock clocks) RXT 2070 SUPER (gigabyte windforce, stock clocks) gigabyte GA-z170XP-SLI ATX g-skill ripjaws 16 GB DDR4 (2133 MHz) samsung 970 EVO pro 500GB EVGA 750W 6 case fans that I don't mind being loud because i'm usually gaming with headphones primary gaming monitor is 27in, 1080p, 144hz. That is not changing anytime soon Windows 10, also not changing anytime soon CPU usually hits ~55C in games, GPU ~65C, I did apply a more aggressive fan curve in BIOS I know the biggest thing I could do is start looking into overclocking the CPU or GPU. I've done basic software optimization in windows like checking power settings, disabling unwanted software, etc. Most of the time this machine performs very well; struggled in Halo Infinite (new, demanding game) and some Assassin's Creed titles (ubisoft has poor software optimization). I will likely not be buying more hardware for this build soon (home server is the next project that I can justify the cost/benefit for). So the only way to make this rig better is config. I'll be honest, I've never overclocked other than the software utility on my original Asus 750 Ti, and it didn't do anything. What should I be looking at the make this build better, that I can do with existing equipemnt? Thanks in advance -
How does the PC optimizer manage to push the fps limit in game like Warzone? From what I see the PC spec really ntg special, it's a high-end spec I get it, but he managed to push it to 300++ fps in Warzone is really a bit unreal. Some overclocking, I believe? Anyone knows how is he able to do it? He is providing services for many Streams and also selling the "Optimized" PC for insane price. https://twitter.com/KIRNEILL/status/1478500236704296963 https://twitter.com/TunedPC https://twitter.com/SenseQuality

Hey all, I'm a new member because my PC is acting a bit strange. I built my current rig in late 2017, and I still have it. The parts list is as follows: i7 7740x (4c 8t 4.3 ghz) Corsair H60 rev 1 liquid cooler a cheap-ish asrock motherboard (i'll have the exact model soon enough, currently a bit pre-occupied) 16gb corsair rgb (also rev 1) 3200 mhz GTX 1060 Optane accelerated boot drive 600W corsair builder psu (bronze certification i believe) Latest version of both video card drivers and Windows (bios is most likely super outdated) 1440p 144hz monitor and a 1080p vertical monitor My issue is this: I recently moved out to a dorm room instead of my old space. About 1 week after the move happened, my CPU usage started to get a bit absurd. Usually it ran at about 20-40% usage when 1 light to medium game and a chrome tab are open at the same time, CoD cold war would use about 80% of my CPU and run at around 80 frames with discord, youtube and wallpaper engine all running. Memory usage is also around 40-50 under the same conditions Once I moved CPU usage spiked at around 50-90% under the same conditions. CoD Cold War maxes out the cpu and runs under 60 frames if I don't close youtube, wallpaper engine, etc. Ram usage also spiked a bit and will go up to 60 or 70% sometimes (which I'm less concerned about) My CPU is not overclocked, is not overheating (I rearranged the fans around, and the CPU runs at mid 70s to low 80's usually), and I have changed nothing about the system aside from a new 1440p 144hz monitor (I used to run 3 1080p monitors so I doubt a monitor change is the issue). I've consulted friends and heard that I should try and run my ram at higher speeds, and to turn on XMP. So I tried all the solutions my brain could think of. Well, I upped the ram speed slightly in the bios to 2666 instead of the 2000 it was at for some reason. Anything higher than 2666 caused issues so I'm guessing it was a power issue (since I didnt up the voltage) and XMP almost bricked my entire system (again probably due to a lack of voltage). The faster ram speed did nothing to help (that I noticed at least) and while I do know my way around hardware, bios settings and ram and cpu overclocking/undervolting/optimization are a bit out of my wheelhouse. What would likely be the cause of this? I know RAM speed or XMP could probably help ease the load off the CPU, or possibly updating the 4+ year old BIOS on the system would help. I also haven't wiped windows, ever, but I've heard sometimes that a wipe tends to help a bit. Any other technical/BIOS fixes that the wizards on here know about, or is it just time for me to just buy a new system?

Hi I have an Acer nitro 5 spin with an i7 8550u cpu and and a gtx 1050 mobile gpu. The laptop is around 2 years old and started running at load temps of 95. So i cleaned it up and bought some thermal grizzly kryonaut and changed the thermal paste. This gave me idle temps of 50 and load temps maxing out at 70. The issue currently is that this model has a stupid heatsink config where the heat pipes for the gpu and cpu run together and one of the two fans do not start working until the gpu is in process. I have no control over this cause the bios is old and locked. Tried NBFC and couldn't find a working config for my model. I used throttle stop to disable my power limits because by default the on load the cpu maxes at 2.5 ghz which is too less for me. Currently whils gaming I have got it to work at 3.3 ghz constant at max temp reaching 81. This although better than before, makes me want to bring my temps down to 70. I've already undervolted cpu and cpu cashe to -125ma through throttle stop and made all my cores a constant of 3.8. Long power limit 22 and short power limit currently 26 with a turbo time of 1 second. Also enabled speed shift and kept value to 0 and disabled BD_PROCHOT. Now I feel to bring temps down further ill need to undervolt my gpu. Looking at videos online and using afterburner is not working though. As soon as install it I get bluescreens and pink screens on occasions. After uninstalling it the laptop works fine. Aida 64 on cpu and fpu load is stable but when gpu stress it on task manger my gpu is very inconsistent with the graphs going ups and down at a very fast pace. The dedicated gpu however remains at a stable 100% load. If anyone has any idea what i should do or what i did wrong pls let me know. Curently its working fine with no crashes. Also on idel my CO% is very weird with them being around 15% 11% 5% 12% respectively.

Hi, I want to undervolt AMD Ryzen 5 3600X for the sole purpose of reducing it's idle and workload temperatures and keep it running under stock speeds. Is this possible without overclocking? I am using stock cooler and don't want to change it. My motherboard is Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite, revision 1.0 with latest BIOS. Thanks.

X570 & B550 Discussion on Optimization / Compatibility with Ryzen 4000 There have already been a few forum posts here and there about this topic, I decided to make a forum post that can hopefully be the centerpiece for the discussion in goal to aid others in likely an upcoming popular question. To make this post a little more personalized however, I've taken up plans to build a PC for myself later this year. I originally planned the build with a R5 3600, now that 4000 series news is confirmed to be soon, I'm going to make the smarter move by not pulling a "bought a 20 series GPU before 30 series drop" and get 4000 depending on it's price or get higher end 3000 for cheaper. My situation arises here: It's still too early to tell most likely but I assume one of the two newer chipsets will be more optimized for Ryzen 4000 as a whole. B550 would have been my likely choice for the 3600, but if I get 4000 series, do any of you think it may be best to go with the X570? If so, should it much rather be a high-end X570 then a lower end?

Hello everyone! I've been looking in to optimization of OS ( WIN 10 ) for games lately and came across alot .. and i mean alot of different solutions. Debloating OS of services that run in background Installing debloated drivers for Graphics card Setting up settings in drivers for games Setting Graphic card to run in msi mode Making sure that your PC runs in Ultra or High performance power plan Disabling unused drivers List goes on and on.. So why am i here? I wan to sorta make a quintessence of these techniques and maybe Anthony (@Anjyoun ) could make a cool video about this subject. If im not the first one to ask.. my bad, i looked it to forum and didn't find such topic.

I'm looking forwards to building a new PC Q4 of this year. One thing that has always bothered me. Has been my struggle with getting early access or poorly optimized games to run well. Therefor i have this question. Is there any hardware i should consider, that can help my frame rate in such games? we are talking games with memory leaks and all sorts of flaws. I am not purely looking for a better frame rate in these games. But here is a list of games i believe to be badly optimized from my experience: VRChat DayZ PUBG Arma 2 Arma 3 ARK: Survival Evolved The Forrest Dirt rally in VR Many early access indie games...

Hello all, I built a system back in March since I was home all the time and had the extra time to do so. Anyways, the reason I'm posting this is because I feel like I could do a better job at optimizing the airflow through my case. I have a Fractal Designs Define S2. Yes I know it doesn't have an open mesh front and that is why I'm trying to make what I have work a little better if possible. Attached to this post is a crude drawing to give you a visual representation of the case and how it's laid out. Any suggestions on improving the layout will be greatly appreciated. The 3 fans not attached to the radiator are Corsair 120LL's

So X-Plane has this cool overlay feature that shows your CPU vs GPU frame times. As I understand, this will definitively tell you if you are CPU or GPU bottle-necked, by indicating which of the two is spending more time processing each frame (on average). Shown here, we see the CPU is the clear bottle-neck, and is spending over 50% more time processing each frame. So my question is, does a similar application exist that will work with any game? When using something like Afterburner, you can easily spot a CPU bottleneck when your GPU is at low utilization. Similarly, if my GPU is close to 95%+ utilization, we can safely say that my GPU is the bottleneck. However, since most games cannot fully utilize all cores in most CPU's, how can one determine how severely your GPU is bottle-necking your CPU? For example, if my GPU is at 60% utilization, I know that (assuming the game is capable of full utilization) I am losing roughly 40% of my GPU's full potential. On the flip side, if my GPU is at 100%, and my (lets say quad core) CPU is running at 50% utilization, I can never be sure how much potential I am losing without knowing how capable the game is of utilizing my entire CPU. In this scenario, you could suggest reducing my resolution to remove my GPU bottleneck, and to then compare my frame rates (or CPU utilization) when my CPU is instead the bottle-neck. But wouldn't lowering the resolution still offload a small workload from my CPU? I understand I am probably overthinking this, but it seems like a tool like X-Plane's would be super useful for precisely (and quickly) measuring the severity of a GPU bottleneck. Honestly not sure if any of this makes sense. Been running off 30 seconds of sleep and a cereal bar for the past few days. But if anyone has a solution to this, or can at least correct my ignorance, it would be much appreciated EDIT: I also know I can just look at other benchmarks to determine how well a specific game can utilize any given CPU, but still, I think a tool like this would be easier.

Okay so its my first time on this new Pc and I need help optimizing the experience. By that I mean it runs pretty hot at idle and under load it is the stock cooler that came with my 3600x but I used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut thermal grease instead of the stock paste. 35 to 45c idles with random cpu utilization spikes and under load 65 to 75c. iv'e heard of under volting and tweaking settings in the bios but Im lost when it comes to amd's layout. I came from an old I7 platform. Also seems the cpu doesnt really ever fully idle or drop to base frequency im not sure if this is normal or not. my 4770k OC would go from 4.4Ghz to even under base frequency at idle sometimes going as low as 3.00GHz. chipset and drivers are up to date! Hello! I've got a system running in a Fractal Design R6 and up until Xmas I was running with stock fans. Was planning on an upgrade so I spoke about this to family and gf. Long story short, got two sets of fans for Xmas... 3 x Corsair ML 120 RGBs (parents) 3 x Noctua NF-F12 iPPC 2000 PWM (GF kept hearing me talk about Noctua so she got the right brand but idk about the model. IPPCs run loud). Adding the 3 x Fractal Design 140mm stock AND a Noctua Chromax 140mm I got for a different project that fell through... I am trying to achieve a good balance between cooling and noise (I hate loud PCs). Specs: Ryzen 2700x with Noctua NH D15 EVGA 2080 TI XC 16GB Trident Z RAM OC to 3466Mhz Corsair H850i PSU So here's the thing: what is the best combo to use for maximum cooling but keeping it quiet? I really like the RGB on the ML120s but it's not a deal breaker. Stock is running pretty hot (83C GPU under load, CPU ~65C under load). What can I do guys? I appreciate the help

I'm looking for some advice on a build that I'm nearly ready to put together (Just waiting on some parts). Part List: pcpartpicker ASRock X570M PRO4 AMD 3600x G.SKILL Ripjaws V 3600 Cas16 2070 Super (The gigabyte windforce oc one its at like 1800mhz ish. Draws a bit more power than stock 2070s) Noctua NH-U12A be quiet! Pure Power 11 600W 80+Gold My big question is with the current power supply, which I know will cover my base requirements, can a stable overclock of 4.0 to 4.2 be achieved on the 3600x. If so does anyone have some values for the (average) 3600x that they would like the share? I am also aware that much of the performance of these chips relies on the timings and speed of my ram. So if it is possible to achieve an overclock on the 3600x is there overclocking or timings tweaks that should be done to the 3600mhz Cas16? All of this of course is assuming that I have the power budget for it, which I would love to figure out... Any numbers, reliable online calculators, or general advice you can offer are appreciated.

I recently bought a ZOTAC GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB gcard for my old rig. The reason I choose this is because I need a card that my motherboard and CPU can support. This is the only one I can find that doesn't need an 8 pin connector and compatible with the old rig without bottlenecking. My Rig: CPU: Intel® Core™ i3-2120 Processor GCard: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB RAM: (2x) 4gb Kingston DDR3 1600mhz Motherboard: ECS H61H2-M12 PSU: Generic 700w power supply 600watts ORION ATX-600w plus 2 fans (1 intake, 1 outtake) MY question is, what are the best optimization/settings for this kind of rig with and without overclocking? (no water-cooling) Advance thanks for those who reply.

DX12 and Vulkan are no essential in every game, im surprised that big titles like BO4, assassins creed... Etc are still not supporting atleast DX12! amd im sure that they dont want to waste their time and money into optimizing games because they are greedy. I have vega 64 and i7 4790 and when using DX12 i get around 20% increase in performance and steady FPS, same goes to Vulkan In 2019 all developers should have DX12 enabled in their games and AMD should do something to encourage them as their cards work better on them.

I have the below specs i7 4790 Vega 64 @1550mhz core and 1100mhz memory. 16GB Ram ddr3 1600mhz Powered by thermaltake smart se 730watt LG Ultrawide 2560x1080 @80hz. Rig is running on normal temps, no throttling, all drivers are updated. New OS, power options are set to high performance, no viruses, no malwares. Im having issue running games smoothly, i get huge FPS drops, and low FPS. Eg. Total war warhammer 2, its hard to play the game on high smoothly i get fps drops to 40s specially when battle contains many units. Watch dogs 2, i get 50s fps regardless of quality as it will have minor change in FPS. Far cry 5 fps drops to 50s on high, company of heroes in 50s amd sometimes 40s, mass affect andromeda similar issue. BO4, get fps dips to 50s, BF 5 is unplayble at all even on medium. Are games becoming badly optimized? I know i have a good righ that shouldnt have issue in running modern games at stable 70 - 80 FPS.

I have a med-high end gaming PC, i7 4790 RX Vega 64 Asus B85M-G 16GB DDR3 1600MHZ 2560X1080 @75hz LG Ultrawide monitor. I can run mostly all AAA heavy games at the highest available resolution at an acceptable playable capped at 75FPS (monitor limit), such as Shadow of the tomb raider Shadow of war BF1 BF5 Mass Effect Andromeda BO4 TW: Warhammer 2 Ashes of singularity Destiny 2 Frostpunk . . Etc. Now coming to Ubitsoft games, they have the worst optimization for a big company, small developers have better optimized games than them. Its like ubisoft dont care about PC gaming society and their main concern is console society, therefore not spending more time on optimization or coding DX12 or Vulkan into their games. They have pretty good games like Wildlands, assassin's creed odyssey, watch dogs 2 and other titles but they all run poorly, take wildlands vs shadow of war for example, i can run max settings on SoW no sweat, wildlands it sturggles in cities... Ubisoft and other developers and games (BO4 and their bad servers) are just milking PC games for money for little efforts, if they keep it this way consoles will have the upper hand once PS5 is released and other 60FPS capable consoles.

Hey guys, so as the title hints - I want to install a Linux distribution on a flash drive for various reasons and I'm looking for the optimal way of doing it. However, I want some feedback on this quite popular project (does it work ok, ia it too laggy, glitchy and what kind of a flash drive should I aim for). Which distro would run the best on a thumb drive? I've used Ubuntu and Mint before but I don't mind trying others. So far I believe I would need a usb 3.0 instead of a 2.0, not only to boot faster but also to run faster and hopefully not get a lot of stuttering. Also I believe a 64gb one would be recommended if I want to install some things and increase its usebility. Am I missing something? Any special notes to take? Any other recommendations? If you got any other tips on this, please share. Thanks in advance!
