really annoying sound issue with Linux Ubuntu 13.04!
Guest posted a topic in Linux, macOS and Everything Not-Windows
I have had Ubuntu 13.04 fir a week now and I have nothing but stress, including with the soundcard; I have a soundcard which suppose to run at 32-float, 192000Hz but it refuses to, plus it has WaveMaxxAudio03 plugins which has manger menu which will not load up at all. Anyone know how to force Ubuntu 13.04 to run the soundcard at 32-float, 192000Hz with plugins instead of running at low quality 16bit, 44800Hz? The card is HDA Intel MID with the chip Realtek ALC665. Help with be appreciated (especially on this occasion)! -
So alright, My co-worker (F, 22 not geek at ALL) just got a macbook. I went arguing with her that Macs were shit! We already briefly touched the subject before but never argued that much. The problem is: For every good argument I get, she's got a dumb one! For exemple, she's comparing it to her 500 notebook, small piece of crap, and to her 5 year old 1500$ laptop. And she won't understand it's not the same thing! Also, for her, «It's Apple, Apple's better.» Is a valid (and one of 3) arguments She also says it's more reliable. Explain me how much more reliable it is than any other laptop with same-ish hardware? She says it works with her iPhone. Of course but it also worked under windows. A client overheard of argument and threw in that it works with all of the «goodies» you can get for it. Yeah, it works for sure with the 80$ mouse she just bought but not necessarly with any other mouse, while windows will work with pretty much any mouse, including the Mac «magic mouse» or whatever it is. We also briefly touched the iPhone vs. everything else argument, but I'm not as much of a iPhone hater as I am an Macbook hater. She doesn't know the customisation of an Android and for her going all the way in her settings to play with settings was a normal thing, and it was dumb to have a scroll down from top toggle buttons thingy like on Android. She's a very nice girl and everything but I was genuinly mad because of her dumbness and ignorance. So I guess I wanted to lay down my unresearched arguments for approval and also maybe some of you have good comebacks to dumb arguments. Steve Jobs is Apple and he's dead. Didn't cut it. I had to tell her who he was. Also She is the perfect exemple that Steve Jobs mentionned: People don't know what they want until we tell them what they want. Especially with the settings thing

This is the best phone I have had in 2 years, for $100, it HANDS DOWN the best money I have spent on a phone. The Moto G, the cheaper version of the well known Moto X. A stellar phone that I am getting great service from Boost Mobile. Some have said the phone feels cheap and flimsy, and has a terrible scree, well I completely disagree. So let's get into the review This phone is great, at an aggressive $100 price point from Boost Mobile Is irresistible. I honestly would get this phone over the Galaxy S3 any day. Say what you want but this phone is amazing, Motorola really has me sold on their phones as of now. It's also affordable to the average Joe who DOESN'T have $750 to get the latest and greatest without a contract. This phone is for the average user, the perfect fit. I can't say enough about how good this phone really is, it's just simple OUTSTANDING. Let's get into the pros and cons of each feature the phone sports. 1. The first thing people see, the design. Now most people wont like how the phone is looking at it, but holding it, it is the most comfortable phone I have held in a long time. It has a Rubberized back that just feels nice to hold in the hand, and the little dimple in it with the M cleverly placed within, is a great little feature they added. Holding the phone ones pointer finger finger tip fits perfectly in that dimple so you can hold the phone nicely and keep a good grip on it. Now the side curve, your wrist has a curve in it where your thumb muscle is, the bottom of this phone sits in there perfectly for me. But there are cons, my personal preference to the edges of the phone is to have it rounded, so it doesn't cut into your hand. The Moto G has a rather sharp side curve making it uncomfortable to hold for more than 30 minutes of continuous use. All I have to say about that. One awesome feature is that the pack plate is replaceable with more colors than just black, giving you more of a custom phone like the Moto X. Some will never like the clever design of the phone and say it's too minimalistic with only a lock and unlock button next to the volume rocker, I have gotten these confused before while getting used to the phone. Now let's get into the part that you stare at, the screen. 2. The "monitor" of the phone, packing a screen resolution of 720x1280 higher than that of the iPhone 5 with a "retina" display. Although the the screen is 4.5" big on the Moto G, compared to my GirlFriends iPhone 5, I say it looks sharper. This display is an IPS panel, so it has amazing viewing angles, something that is important on a phone, not everyone looks at them straight on and having this allows users to play games at odd angles. Looking at this screen for over an hour may give you a headache well, because you shouldn't be doing that. Go outside or something. I almost forgot, on the screen is Corning Gorilla Glass, and that stuff is TOUGH. I love the display, it's beautiful, but there has to be something that powers all of that, some Quad-Core computing hardware. 3. The CPU, or the brain of the phone. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, a beast of a mobile processor. It packs 4 cores at 1.2Ghz, so far everything I have thrown at it, it handles it nicely without any lag what-so-ever. Along with that CPU has to be a GPU to power the scree, an Adreno 305 GPU. This little thing packs a furious punch. I ran multiple benchmarks and got outstanding results, but we will get more into that later. This phone feels pretty snappy, with only 1GB of RAM, I can still throw all of my programs at it and it doesn't run out of processing ram. The CPU and GPU Google(Motorola) that they have thrown in there is an amazing pair and work flawlessly together. Now to the thing that powers it all. 4. The Battery. The thing most people don't exactly care about in a phone, they just want amazing features and amazing battery life. Well, you need to make sure it has a good battery first. The Moto G packs an unremoveable 2070 Miliamp-hour battery. I wanted to do a test on how long I could take the battery, without using the battery saving options. So I put the screen at a brightness that I really like it at, and used it all day, and all night. Doing gaming, watching videos, streaming on Netflix while in the car going to Vegas. I got an amazing 8.23 hours of battery out of this thing, keeping in mind I used it from 100% to 0%, and playing and doing some power hungry tasks. I am very impressed, I have snapchatted my friends all day, and I unplugged my phone when it has at 100% off the charger, as of now it is at 74%, that is 14 hours of almost continuous use, but when I wasn't using it I stopped the processes and locked it. I am very impressed with the battery in this thing, but one con is that it didn't come with a USB charger, just a cable attached to the wall plug. Now the most anticipated part (for me at least) As part of my review I wanted to do some stress tests and bench marks, so I went ahead and downloaded 3DMARK for Android OS. After downloading the Ice Storm pack within the app, I ran Ice Storm, there were 2 other options. It did the mark at 720p, using intensive graphics. I ran this test bench a total of 2 times. Getting the following scores and under certain conditions. Running Android version 4.4.2, I got the following scores after being on all day. Overall Score: 5679 Graphics Score: 5324 Physics Score: 7409 Graphics Test 1: 25.4 FPS Average Graphics Test 2: 21.1 FPS Average Physics Test: 23.5 FPS Average This got pretty good test Scores, so I thought I would restart the phone, and re run the test, getting the following scores. The phone was off for 40 minutes. Overall Score: 5648 Graphics Score: 5275 Physics Score: 7503 Graphics Test 1: 25.3 FPS Average Graphics Test 2: 21 FPS Average Physics Test: 23.8 FPS Average This about sums up my review of the Moto G, if there is anything I may have forgotten or you want me to emphasize on, feel free to comment that suggestions and I will get around do going so as soon as I can. Thank you for taking your time to read through my review of the Moto G. AS requested by @[member=klngpln]

Hello all, Would an Intel Celeron G1610 be good enough for World of Warcraft on High/Ultra settings? Or would this kill the chances of that regardless of other components? Specs: Dual Core 2600MHz Ivy Bridge

When I write some java files and compile them, ".class" files get generated for each class in my program. I am not sure about what the purpose is of the .class files though. Could someone explain it? Thank you.

Hey peeps, i have a wifi card which has two green LEDs, but my rig's color scheme is black/red so i want to solder red ones on there, but i struggle finding the right ones. I attached a bunch of pictures of said wifi card's LEDs. If I am not wrong, these ones would be the correct ones? I have no idea about the electrical data of the current ones, so i hope it will be okay? I also included a poor photo of two LEDs on my motherboard, one of which i would like to replace. It's a SMD LED but i have no clue what size? I guess 1206 but idk. So I'd appraciate if someone could point me in the right direction.

When I do, I think it's worth it. Unrelated: I had to use Ctrl + F to find the Off-Topic sub forum. I'm not joking. Bonus for the people who recognize the one anime song in this compilation of death stares.

1. Budget & Location I am a beginner at this kind of stuff but please hang on with me. This is what I have to offer so far with the help of WoodenMarker: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1kP8L I have a budget of $1300~$1400 at most at the moment. 2. Aim I am a beginner at this type of stuff so please hang on with me. I want a rig that is able to do some high-end gaming, game footage rendering/editing, and programming. Some types of game that I would want to play on this new rig are: Battlefield 4, Black Ops Ghost, and Watch Dogs. I want to be able to run around 40FPS average on these games with max/high settings. 3. Monitors As for now I am going to run with just one monitor but I would want to go SLI with 3 monitors in the near future. The monitor that I currently have is eff'ed up so I'm interested in buying a new one. I have none in mind at the moment. 4. Peripherals I won't be needing any peripherals except having Windows. Thanks for your time and effort! PS: Any suggestion, advice, or critique is welcome.

I've have my new computer for about a week now and I've been using it like mad (who wouldn't). But whenever I google it everybody seems to think that it's a drivers fault, or that windows does that when it sleeps. So, I went the easy route and adjusted power settings. I optimized everything for performance, it never sleeps, and it never shuts the screen off.that didn't help. The next solution was to run all of the non-Microsoft drivers to the max and see what causes that blue screens, but it said to do that for 24-48 hours. It was hoping its simpler than that. It only blue screens when it stays idle for about 15 minutes. The blue screens also say that it's dumping the physical memory on the disk, so if that could help?

Hi guys, So I've been playing this game a while and I can't figure out how to do one thing in it and I thought I'd ask here since Google isn't being helpful. There are magic abilities in the game that hit multiple squares and thereby enemies. I've seen the AI, both as my characters using auto-battle, and as the enemies, have the center of such magic be an empty square. I don't know how to do this manually while I play though. Example: 4 enemies are in a cross shape but none are in the middle as such, _X_ X_X _X_ Where _ is empty space and X is an enemy. And the magic hits squares like so, _X_ XXX _X_ Where _ is empty space and X is where the magic hits. How can I center the magic to the _ in between all 4 eneimes so it hits all of them? This is a very basic thing you can do in most turn based RPG's such as Disgaea or Final Fantasy Tactics. However, I have yet to figure out how to use an ability on a square that is not occupied. I've tried tinkering with all the options in game, but I can't seem to figure it out. And me seeing that my characters can do it when auto-battle is on makes me feel like I should be able to do it as well. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Vitalius.

Google has now updated their voice search system to recognize relationship context to your contacts. You will now be able to search contacts and dial out just by saying 'call mom' or 'call uncle John' for example. Though the change is small, it is important for Google's ultimate goal, complete ant total domination of our lives (in a good way of course) With smarter search comes smarter apps and smarter ways of communicating to your device. Search results that are tailored to you rather than something general is a definite step in the right direction. Google will need these sorts of innovations in order to 'invade the home space' which is probably taking place sooner than we think with their recent acquisition of NEST, with their popular 'smart thermostat' and 'smart smoke detector' What do you guys and gals think? Positive or negate? Link to the Verge article.

Hi guys, Recently, bad things have been happening to some servers I help manage. Specifically, each of the servers, which had a RAID 5 array in them, had a faulty HDD (and things went sour from there). Well, these 3 servers were managed by both me and one other person. I was learning how to manage them after he had built each of them over time. Of the people who used them, only he and I were able to actually fix them in terms of hardware or coordination (i.e. how one interacted with another) related issues because we knew how they were set up. Unfortunately, a second HDD developed faults on the primary of those 3 servers. When we went to replace one of the faulty drives in it (which we should have much earlier anyway), for whatever reason, the RAID array broke. It wouldn't replicate, and bad times were had. However, in all this, I believe the problem, in terms of management, of these servers was simply that there was only 1 person who actively coordinated and fixed them (until I came along and learned some). While he was keeping them all running, he was trying out new features that he hadn't used before on Windows 2k8. Such as DFS Replication, Remote Profiles, among other things. Although he never got them fully working. I personally believe DFS Replication wouldn't work because the drives were failing redundancy (due to the faulty drives in each server). However, I can't be sure. Well, due to all these features being slightly implemented, but not really, backups were not being done correctly between the 3 servers. They weren't replicating with one another. So, when the primary one failed, the other two only had outdated files on them. Which isn't a good thing, obviously. We had 4 different kinds of backups set up, but none worked because one would fail while the other didn't, so we had to keep moving files around to get things working. Fortunately, our "last resort" backup, which was nothing but a batch file, and a network connection to a JBOD server, actually had a fairly recent backup of our primary server, so we weren't completely boned. Just remember, for those of you out there who do manage multiple servers for whatever reason, never do things half-way, and make sure there are enough people to actively manage the servers and keep up maintenance on them, otherwise it won't matter how much redundancy you have. It will all fail inevitably if no one maintains it. I know. It should be common sense. But hey, sometimes when you are building big things, the tiny details get lost along the way. The more you know, Vitalius

So what do you think of the series so far? I personally think it's pretty good animation looks fantastic, only thing that bothers me is the duration of an episode. 25min is too damn short!
