Alright everyone! This is attempt #2 in trying to pick a part list for my first ever of build! I've studied up a bit more and I think I managed to pick a decent build for maxing most games at 1080p and allow for recording and some streaming for a good while and allowing me to reuse parts such as ram or the power supply in the future . http://Pcpartpicker.com/p/qsGCf7 So my questions are: 1) does this seem like a decent over all build for roughly $1000? 2) does this motherboard allow for overclocking in the future if I were to get a different CPU 3) are there any suggestions on a case? I'm thinking of getting this one http://pcpartpicker.com/part/vivo-case-casev04#viewImages and replacing the blue fans with red to follow the red and black theme I'm going with I'm very open to suggestions on the parts but would prefer to keep an Intel processor. If at all possible I'd like to stay with the black and red color theme Thank you all in advance, I've learned a who lot from this forum recently and am really thankful for the people who are willing to help newbies like me.

Hi all, new to these forums, and planning my first build. So, should I get and AMD FX-8350 (4ghz stock) for 220$ or an FX-8300 (3.3ghz stock) and attempt to over clock it to the 8350's speed? if that's at all possible on a 212 evo. The FX-8300 is a full 60$ cheaper. I plan on going with the Vishera line for the 8 cores, as I do lots of video and picture editing, 3d rendering etc. And I'm on a tight budget : )

First off this is a Netherlands build so preferrable when referring to prices use € Hi Guys, Id really like to start my first PC build pretty soon. A bit of backstory. I have always loved gaming, been doing so on a few computers and most recently an Alienware 17 (2013). I have 'retired' from gaming when the laptop broke for about 12 months now (yes i know right? how did i survive). Anyway i have very occasionally been playing games on my macbook pro (2010 model) CSGO doesnt play out well... as you might have guessed. I am fed up. my fingers are itching. i need to game. I like tweaking things both mechanical and electronic. So i thought HEY! perfect idea, build a PC, have a tonne of fun doing so, and save a few coins in the process . Okay so here we are, what do i have to work with. Budget: €1000 including a monitor if possible as of now im at €940 ex monitor so thats doable but not if id want 120/144hz Whats it for? Gaming, heheh cant stand without it anymore. I might do some 3D work here and there with SolidWorks for work and University but not too intensive. Lets focus on the gaming aspect cuz thats the most fun!!! 1080p is super fine for me been doing that on the alienware and now on a much bigger screen i bet, it'll be awesome. I had a 120hz screen on that Alienware and goddd i loved it. the silky smooth movements compared to 60hz is to die for, (even thought the games like GTAV played at avg of 60) 60hz means any frame rate above 60 you wont notice so thats why i was thinking 144hz display. graphics card i was thinking maybe a gtx1060? i replaced it with a 970 in the build cuz it wasnt there yet. The games i played (and will play): GTA V Battlefront BF4 BF1 Arma 3 (this one is important for CPU choice) Crysis 3 and all the other standard 'pretty' games Parts list so far (this is where i need your help guys!) http://de.pcpartpicker.com/user/Ariesblade/saved/4GqKHx So yeah those are the parts i have lined up. So what im asking from you guys is just some tips on optimizing the kit for what i want to do. Overclocking atm sounds a bit scary so i dont think id do that right this second but i think i might want to do it sometime, (if thats in a few months or after upgrading) but at the moment optimizing the pricing would be ideal. I think the best place to still shave some dollars would be off the motherboard. I personally picked the Asus Z170-A first and then thought the Z170-E was good enough i liked the color (not that important if it means i can shave off ALOT) and i liked the features, all the ports, good audio, usb 3.1 and 3.0 doesnt HAVE to have a type-c but could be cool BTW the 2tb disc is set to 0.00 because i have 2 1tb hard drives that i would probably want to recycle (external HDD 7200rpm) into that build cuz i dont use them anymore. The Case, ohh goodness i think its really pretty for the price point P400S Window White yeah i like it. Plus it gives me a bit of nostalgia looking at the alienware and being able to switch up the colors is awesome Stuff I Already Have: -as stated is the 2x 1TB hard drives -Logitech MX518 which i am very comfortable with -Alienware MX gaming mouse (got it for free, okay comfy) -Alienware Keyboard (looks okay, touch is meh, PRETTY COLORS :D) -Speaker set from Bose Id love to hear more from you guys, the experts, because i only know alot from watching videos and reading stuff, but no real personal hands on experience. Lots of Love, ariesblade noobie

Hello everyone you are looking wonderful. I have a question that has been keeping my up at night. Will my Corsair K95 keyboard work with my planned build, what about my Razer Deathadder chroma? I made a bone-head decision and bought my peripherals before anything else. The build I have planned includes an Asus Z170-A motherboard and I don't even know If I can plug them both directly into the motherboard or not. I haven't bought my PC parts yet. Would the Z170-A be compatible, should I pick a different motherboard, or should I write off the $203.00 that I already paid? Any and all help is welcomed. So after deciding that my monitor upgrade from an old 720p monitor will be going straight to a 1440p/60Hz instead of a 1080p/144Hz or 1080p/G-Sync model, I'm now left with choosing the actual monitor. What I basically want is, that I don't spend more money than necessary but also get a product I'll be able to use for a long time. I heard that the BenQ GW2765HT is very good value. Is this true? Are there even better ones? Please help me I'm so lost in this.

I'm going to build myself a PC and was thinking about pairing an i5 6600k and an Asus Strix r9 380 4G. Will I experience serious bottlenecking?
-
So can one overclock any AMD CPU with any mobo? ( given it is the same socket) i am planning to upgrade my desktop-pc and until now i was thinking intel CPU, but I can get a AMD FX-6300 Black Edition, Socket AM3+, and a MSI 970 GAMING, Socket-AM3+ for the same money as an i5 6600k. I can allso keep my RAM and spend more on a GPU, and perhaps a more powerful CPU. I am not a big gamer, i play stuff like hears of iron 4 and kerbal space program. I am going to have an grafiks card anyway.

So my current build is: The build was from the summer of 2014 and was my first pc build (I made a lot of mistakes). However it hasn't changed much over the years except for a new case and cpu cooler. I am wanting to do nearly a complete upgrade..Id like to by winter time have upgraded to: i5 6600k Gtx 1070 Asus Strix Corsair Vengeance White LED 3000MHz and i'm not sure on what motherboard..I want either a black or grey (maybe LEDs?) to go with the color scheme. (the Asus maximus VIII formula is amazing but is stupid expensive and I think it would be a waste on a 6600k) Along with those upgrades I would like to try out some custom watercooling. My cpu cooler is an expandable AIO with a built in pump/res/radiator and hypothetically you can just add on another radiator and gpu block and can have a full custom loop. The AIO already has a dual 120mm rad so but I wasn't sure how much more radiator I would need to keep the build quiet and cool. I can fit a 360 120mm or a 280 140mm rad in the top and front. So sorry for all the text but my questions are....would the upgrades be justified? Is an i5 6600k the best pair with a 1070 where I primarily game. Overall I just want to know if I would be throwing my money in the wrong areas. Is it dumb to get the Asus Strix just to put a waterblock on it? I posted earlier asking if I would be able to keep the backplate of the strix with a waterblock (either phanteks or ek) to keep the LEDness of it and i'm not sure if I will be able to without drilling some holes or something. Also how much of a performance gain would it be after its all said and done? What order should I prioritize the upgrades? Currently I mostly play games like: Edit: I currently have a 144hz 1080p 1ms monitor but would like to in the future move into 1440p gaming. Sorry for the noobness of this post but I would love all the help I could get and I am excited to learn more. If you need any more info just let me know. Thanks!

Hello. I am very new to the custom built PC scene, also to this forum. I am looking to build my first gaming PC (though not completely gaming as i will say below*), and as of right now i already have an idea of what parts i should go for but I'm not very confident in myself. In this build i am looking to make something that will run most titles (GTA being probably the most intensive title) mid-high setting at 1080p with hopefully very playable frame rates. *I would also like to use the computer for 3D modeling type of work like Inventor and auto-desk as i am going be going into engineering classes once school starts, if that is at all possible. I have a budget of roughly 900-1050 US$, and will need mouse, Keyboard and windows unfortunately. I will be running two monitors MAX if that ever happens, and i am wanting to build a new gaming PC as my current computer can no longer run any games, and is no where near powerful enough to even load up 3d modeling software (RIP). Below i have a list of current parts i would like to use, and also, i would prefer Intel over AMD (i just haven't always heard the best things about AMD from people i know who have owned their chips). PARTS LIST STUFF.odt Thank you :))) (ALSO DONT MIND THE MAX BUDGET NUMBERS ON THE LIST THAT WAS FOR ME CAUSE I CANT DO MATH WELL WHOOPS)

So I have always been behind in the gaming world both on pc and console. I've never had a gaming Pc and will likely be able to here soon. What I've been working with is my laptop from 2011. An HP dv6 with an AMD A8 connected to a 32" 720p lcd tv It's let me play a fair amount of games, but my friend let me know when he plays on it, he considers it an unplayable gaming experience Low graphics and low fps. I'd like to put together a gaming PC that I can also create some youtube/podcast content So far Case: Leaning towards Fractal Design S. Thoughts? Mobo: This is an area I'm having trouble with. I know the z170 chipset is what's going on right now. Don't know all what that entails. Something with enough ram slots and usb ports for my needs. Audio Isolation. ATX 1151 I'm assuming. Don't know what brands to look for. I'm weary of MSI because they tag everything with "GAMING" and "BOOST". How is EVGA? Am I going to be able to fill these needs with a board under $200 usd? I don't really fully understand MOBOs yet, is there a good thread to fill me in? Can someone give me a rundown in this thread? Processor: i7 of some kind due to gaming and content creation Not really sure which one. This area I need a 101. Gramphix Card: EVGA GeForce 1070 SC Hopefully the prices will come down a bit before I'm ready to build in a month or two Cpu cooler: Cooler Master 212evo? Thoughts? Ram: My laptop has 8gb so hopefully the new PC will have more, don't know how much will be good for "future proof" and needs? Technologically illiterate SSD: Kingston? Samsung? I don't really know if it matter what kind. Mech hard drive: 1 or 2 tb for the time being? Power Supply: Something gold efficiency rated with sufficient power for the build, not really sure. How much should I expect to spend here? Less than 100usd? *fully Modular I'd like to be able to do some modded skyrim/higher graphics overwatch/Arma Basically I wanna be able to run Undertale if ya know what im sayin All info, opinions and such are appreciated

I recently upgraded my computers motherboard, cpu and cooler with ddr4 ram. Specs: Motherboard - Gigabyte Z170X HDD - Seagate 500gb (Working) and Western Digital 500gb (Works but not showing?) CPU - i7-6700k Skylake 500w PSU (Doesn't say model number anywhere but it's not a dodgy cheap one) from novatech GPU - EVGA GTX770 SC Cooler - Arctic Pro 7 Cooler Ram - Hyperx DDR4 2x8gb I had to reinstall windows 10 using a USB, unfortunately this has completely scuppered my computer. Only the drive in which I reinstalled Win10 x64, I can see in my devices and drives (also not in device manager). My Intel HD Graphics 530 work, but as soon as I plug my graphics card in (EVGA GTX770, I get no output on my monitor. I am a bit noobish although I am very confident this isn't a hardware issue, as the GPU fans are spinning. This also leads me to how my fans are going at hyperspeed and I have no idea how to quieten them. I've looked up many guides but I cannot install any drivers from Geforce Experience as it states how I don't have the hardware installed (I do). Previously before changing the hardware I never had any of these issues and it worked perfectly fine. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance

So I'm in the process of building a computer. This is my first time, so some of the acronyms and things I would know if I'd done this before are not there. For example: what does AAFP mean? Why is there a tiny plastic arrow to the left side of both the hdd led, and the power sw? Please help me with this.

Hey, so recently a put together a home file server using FreeNAS. The 7 Gamers One CPU and 8 Gamers 1 CPU videos really intrigued me. I am unfamiliar with unRAID and would like some help with a few ideas I have floating around, and if they are possible. 1. Do different VMs require different graphics sources? Could I run 2 off integrated graphics or would both have to come from dedicated GPUs? 2. Would it be possible to use it to run 2 VMs, one as FreeNAS (I am aware it can be risky running FreeNAS as a VM), and the other OS to be a Linux distro such as Mint? As the file server has a fairly powerful CPU, i5 4460, and would like to be able to make use of that. 3. Would adding Plex to a FreeNAS VM cause any issues? 4. A weird one here maybe, can you dual boot a VM? To choose if it's a Linux distro or OSX. 5. Would there be any issues having my main PC be a synergy host and one VM be the client? I completely understand if this is not possible or could have some serious issues, I have done a little digging on this but am still a real noob with all this. Thank you in advance for any help! I'll be heading to bed shortly and work in the morning so am sorry if I don't reply for a while, but will do my best! Thanks guys

Hey guys, looking for some guidance on solving my Radeon settings app not showing up, either in my programs list or on the desktop. I let AMD Gaming evolve automatically update to 16.5.2.1 But since then i cant find where to open the Crimson video/overdrive app. I looked up the release notes on the driver and found this: Radeon Settings Additional Settings page may not be available when upgrading to Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.5.2.1 from the current windows update driver. As a work around please clean uninstall all current Radeon Software when upgrading if your system exhibits this issue. This all started after trying to get Forza 6 beta going last weekend and I suspect it was my required update to 16.5.1 beta driver? Next day is when Gaming evolved updated to the current driver that I started to notice the problem. Iv'e never had this problem and have had other updates go smoothly. I do suspect thou in my noobness careless install/updates without scrubing out previous drivers(back to the CCC days) may have something to do with it. I'm running Win 10 64bit with a R9 280 Gigabyte windforce Iv'e seen a few videos on youtube about using windows unistall program to wipe all AMD away the installing the latest driver, and others recommend running a DDU. But what scares me is others who say it then goes into safe mode? How does it still display anything if I wipe all my graphic card drivers away? As you can probably tell from this post its no wonder how I tie my shoes let alone update my driver...please help...

I'm still learning my way around building computers. Meaning I have yet to build my own. I'm thinking of getting this: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/HibbyHubby/saved/78LhP6 Any thoughts or changes? Did I miss something really bad? I need to keep it within this price range, case size, and I'm trying to get a pc that can do video editing/ recording while on games. I got peripherals. I'm not sure if this is 100% compatible either which is mainly why I'm here.
