Good morning guys, I have a question for you... I just finished watching Linus' video on the ebay scam of the xeon processors... I think it might have happened to me too then because I today installed CPU-z on my machine which I believed I bought two E5-4650s for but it turns out that in truth I have a 4650 and a 2680... same basic specs and apparently they can work with each other but I can now maybe relate to this mismatch for the ram incompatibility maybe... But the question is, is there a way to like tell the contact from ebay even it's like half a year ago I bought these things that he sold me something not right? Thanks in advance

Hello. I recently bought used Corsair Hydro H110 (not H110i). Unfortunately, the seller didn't put LGA 2011 mounting screws in the package. I cannot wait another week to get new mounting kit from Corsair, but the friend of mine has "Swiftech LGA 2011 Mounting Kit" that he doesn't use. Can I use it for my Corsair Hydro H110? Thanks for your advice! Link to Swiftech's mounting kit: http://aerocooler.com/swiftech-socket-2011-kit-socket-lga-2011-mounting-kit/

I screwed up a friends build please help! He bought a computer with a Motherboard, 16GB's of DDR3 RAM (Corsair Vengence I believe), a GTX 950 (which he is going to replace with a GTX 1070) and a Seasonic 750watt power supply for under $200. The motherboard is an LGA115x type and I found a 4930K for $170 and I TOTALLY blanked that the 4930K is I believe FCLGA2011 until after he purchased and he can't cancel. I feel like a TOTAL dick but I saw that 4930K and he's the type of person that knows nothing about PC's and I wanted him to have a PC that was equal to or better than my Ryzen 1600 + GTX 1060 6GB rig so that we could play games together and he would have NO issues now and into the future. Original plan was a 4670K but I saw them going for $130-$160 and the 4930K just seemed like the better deal. Idk why I thought it was LGA115x. I really only have experience with the latest 2011-3 sockets and older stuff like the 2600K. I want to get him a cheap 2011 motherboard that won't require BIOS updates to function out of the box. I would have gone Xeon route but I don't want him to have to buy ECC memory when he has DDR3 already. Even though it is a K chip, he likely won't be overclocking at all to start with and if he does, it will be minimal. He'll be using an air cooler. I figure VRM's don't have to be amazing quality since he won't be overclocking really that much if at all and 2011 boards are probably built solid across the board (no pun intended) for power delivery. I REALLY would appreciate ANY help, I do NOT like screwing over my friends, he is a bit impatient but part of that is my fault so I want to get him a board ASAP as he is coming up to visit with the case (supports full size ATX) and I want to get the 4930K running with his steam library. He is currently a console peasant lol but is really interesting in PC gaming. I am really looking for a proven board that WILL work with the 4930K. Unfortunately, I don't live on the tech coast so I can't just test the CPU in someones board. I was hoping to get a used board for $100-160 and I am willing to ship in $20-30 because he's helped me in the past and he's a Veteran with A LOT going on. tl;dr - I accidently got my friend to purchase a 4930K instead of a 4670K for an LGA115x board because I thought it would work. My buddy is a veteran with a lot going on and I am looking for a decent quality 2011 board that will work out of the box with a 4930K. It is important to me. Any help is appreciated.

Hello, you beautiful people you! So I am building an editing/streaming/gaming rig for myself and have chosen the LGA2011 Xeon E5-2670 because it's $80 on eBay. I would love to get a reasonable mobo for under $300 if possible. I see a lot of mobo's that are LGA 2011 compatible (like the Intel DX79TO) going for that price, but I also see that the X99 platform is much... MUCH cheaper, although on DDR4. Is there a good CPU/Mobo combo that would get me the 8core/16thread performance for a better price? My total budget for both would be around $400. Thanks!

Hi, I was wondering if I could use this cpu on this motherboard. Im asking because Intel ark says the CPU is FCLGA2011 but the motherboard is LGA2011 but i have seen people on youtube install this cpu on LGA2011 Motherboards. Are they the same socket or are they incompatible

Hey guys, So I'm in the process of planning a new computer with used Xeon 2670's. For those CPUs I need LGA 2011 Coolers. Right now I'm looking at the CM Hyper 212 Evo, but I'm really low on money and I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a cheaper air cooler. I live in Canada BTW, where the prices of everything is super inflated. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

so i'm currently in the middle of building a single xeon workstation using the xeon e5 2670 and i have some ddr3 ecc ram lying around that i was going to use but after looking around i can't find out whether the ram will work. if i use a desktop x79 motherboard that states it supports non-ecc ram will the ram i have still work because of the xeon or will i have to buy a server motherboard to get the system to post? or does anyone know what motherboards i should be looking for? i'm hoping to get an atx or e-atx sized motherboard to fit in a standard case with one cpu socket and between 4 and 8 memory slots. does anyone have any recommendations?

Hey guys so I watched linus's video on build computers using old server parts and really liked the idea. I watched some other videos and heard about the great deals on the intel Xeon e5-2670. I found the processor for around $60 on ebay however I am having a lot of trouble finding an affordable motherboard with the LGA2011 socket (not lga 2011-3 of which there are plenty). The only few I have found are -the MSI X79A-GD45 for $200 from https://www.sierracomponent.com which seems kind of sketchy -the asrock x79 extreme4 looks good but I can only find it for around $1000 -the biostar Tpower looks really good and cheaper than everything else but I cant find it for sale anywhere -the Ecs Black X79R-AX DDR3 Intel Motherboard for $130 from http://www.ascendtech.us/ which seems very promising -and the Intel BOXDX79TO Core-I7 Chipset-X79 Express Socket-LGA 2011 64Gb DDR3 Motherboard for $240 from Ebay which also looks nice. If you guys can find or recommend any x79 2011 socket motherboards compatible with the xeon e5-2670 it would be much appreciated.

I was recently considering the purchase of an Intel Xeon E5-2670 (which has socket LGA-2011 and X79 chipset) when I noticed that most LGA-2011 x79 motherboards I came across were ridiculously expensive. Mobos that were 300$ at launch are now 600$ CAD and even the used ones I've found tend to be 350$+. Since I don't feel like spending three times as much for the mobo as the CPU I was hoping the fine people of the linus tech tips forum could help me out. If you have any links to a cheap LGA-2011 x79 motherboard, I'd be very thankful if you could provide them (new or used, as long as it can make it's way to Canada). Thanks in advance. TL;DR: I'm looking for a cheap LGA-2011 x79 motherboard, new or used.

Hello Everyone! First post here, hoping that some folks would be able to provide some input for me. I'm looking for a board that can support one of the new Xeon E7 processors. From what I've been able to find, this processor uses Intel's C602J Chipset just like previous V2 versions and is socket FCLGA2011. There's really not a ton of information out there on these. Watching the 18 core video Linus produced I want to test out one of these. Asus was one of the companies to support the V2 version of this chip but I don't see them on the V3 list. Would this work on a V2 board that has the same chipset and socket? Supermicro is the only company that specifically mentions this processor on one of their boards. Thanks!

Disclaimer: I am new to overclocking, this is my first time. Hi guys, I have a i7 4930K processor and while the amount of cores it has is great for multi tasking, i find that in games i do perform a bit worse than some of my friends that have quad core processors with faster clock speeds in CPU reliant games. I have the Asus rampage IV black edition which i discovered today (after owning this thing for half a year) that overclocking *seems* relatively simple with it, I was running the 4 step optimisation in AISuite3 and it pretty much asked me what i wanted to raise the clock speed to, so i selected 4.1GHz which was the lowest available option, it restarted once, then on post it performed some cooling tests and i could see from the Asus Overclocker 3.5" Screen that it was steadily increasing the multiplier up to 41. The OS booted and everything seemed normal, i checked AISuite and CPU-Z and speccy and they confirmed for me that the Processor (at idle at this point) was running as cool as it did at it's native 3.4GHz(3.9 boost), I have the Corsair H100i so i imagine that's why it's staying cool. I then ran cinebench to which it performed much better on the CPU test than it had previously, everything seems stable and solid. So these are my questions: 1) Should I trust that Asus has overclocked it correctly and everything is good? 2) Should i keep this overclocked at it's current level or should i try to get more out of it? The options on the (what i'll call) *easy overclocking* showed options for 4.3GHz and 4.5GHz, should I try it? 3) Will overclocking have a negative effect on the lifespan of it? (I'm not sure if that's a silly question) 4) Should i be overclocking this at all or should i leave it at default, fan sound is not a concern for me i just favour performance. My Specs (Only ones that i *think* will be relevant to this thread): Intel i7 4930K - 3.4GHz (3.9 Boost) 16GB HyperX Fury Dual Channel 1600MHz Asus rampage IV black edition Corsair H100i Corsair 1000W RM Modular 80 plus gold, ultra quiet Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 Ti (not stock) 2 x 1080p Monitors Thanks for any help in advance guys, Matt. (CPU-Z and speccy):

I'm building my next computer piece by piece as my funds allow and next on my list is the motherboard. I was just looking for some suggestions to go with Intel 4930k cpu. I'll use it mostly for gaming, recording, and video editing. right now I have a gtx 970 that I'll be using until I can upgrade to a 980 and then eventually dual 980's. thanks in advance

Hey all, so EK waterblocks is currently in the "decision" process, as to whether or not they will make waterblocks for the ASUS X99 Workstation board. I for one intend to use this board for my own build this summer. There is currently a "vote" type thing on EK's website, if you plan on using this board for your upcoming build orrrr you just want to show support for the idea please go to this website and give it the thumbs up! Thank you very much! http://thinkcell.ekwb.com/idea/waterblocks-for-asus039s-x99-e-ws-motherboard

I want to build my pc with an Asus X99-A (because of the DDR4) but the intel i7 5820k is maybe too much for my budget and i was wondering if i could use an i7 4820k which is Lga 2011, not Lga 2011-v3. Can someone explain me how it works, and if they are compatible, or maybe if i can use a Xeon Lga2011 cpu for gaming with that motherboard. Also, may i use 2 modules of DDr4 RAm in a quad channel board? Thanks.

i7-4790k or i7-5820k?? What should I get for Medium-Hard Gaming,Hard Vid/Pic Editing and speed??
-
Ok. So I am starting to get into computers and have been for about a month now. I am going to start putting together a computer after Christmas but plan on starting to buy parts for black friday. The CPU I am going with it the i5 4690k (Yes, I know I could get an i7 but I do not have the money!) Now what I am confused about is the Chip Set... What confuses me is there are so many terms such as LGA 1150 and 2011 and stuff like Z97 and Z87 when I was looking at motherboards. What is the Difference and What will get me the best Performance for the Price? Thanks! If you have any questions or need links to the CPU let me know!

Hey everyone so this winter I plan on building my first desktop computer. My current laptop no longer has the balls i need it to have so i think its time to upgrade. I still want to have a laptop so i'm planning on keeping this one (Dell Studio 1558 - Decked out). So as the title says I do have a question regarding which socket I should go with. I dont want the socket/motherboard to go out of date so i was wondering which would be better to go with. If i do go with the LGA1150 route i will be putting a i7-4790k in an Asus z97 motherboard. But if i go with the LGA2011 route i will be planning on putting a i7-5820k in an Asus X99 Deluxe. Two of my biggest concerns are that 1) I don't want the socket to go out of date so that in the future if necessary i would be able to upgrade the processor while keeping the motherboard. and 2) in the future i want to possibly add expansion cards/another graphics card. I know the 1150 only has the ability for 16 pcie lanes and the 2011 has the capability for up to 40 (correct me if i am wrong here). I would much rather not run things with less lanes but if i shouldn't be worried about something like that please let me know. Thanks ahead of time.

hey guys, im new to this forum, but i have been watching linus tech tips and ncix for a while now. i am currently building a workstation/gaming pc and i really need some advice on the components i need to put in it. my overall budget is $1600 and i need at least a 6core cpu to help me render faster with vray for sketchup since vray for sketchup uses cpu for rendering. heres my initial build: cpu: intel® Core™ i7-4930K Processor mobo: GIGABYTE GA-X79-UP4 LGA 2011 HDD: WESTERN DIGITAL 1TB GREEN SSD: KINGSTON HYPER-X 3K 120GB VC: R9-270X 4G GDDR5 256BIT DUAL-X & OC / R9-270X 2G TOXIC EDITION BY SAPPHIRE case: STORM SCOUT II BLACK or CORSAIR GRAPHITE 600T white cooling: CORSAIR HYDRO SERIES H100I PSU: Corsair 750w modular psu i already have ram modules. but i plan on getting those wonderful corsair dominators in the future. my main concern is whether i should go for an r9-270x or a more expensive nvidia gtx760, since i will be using google sketchup software and i am not sure whether amd or nvidia is the best road to go. also if you guys could recomment a cheaper psu prefferably modular and also a cheaper cpu cooler, since i wont be doing any extreme overclocks(this will be my first overclock, im afraid to push it very far, probably wont even oc it yet). your comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. thanks and god bless:) ps: in the future i plan on getting a second graphics card and maybe another hard drive

So recently I decided to try and squeeze out as much performance as I could out of my i7-3820 that I had for 2 years, just as a fun thing to do, I hit a wall around the 4.5Ghz area, I was just wondering how good of an overclock this is compared to some other people out there. I've seen online that people were able to easily reach the 4.625Ghz by just setting the strap blk to 125 and setting the voltages higher, but I couldn't do that, so if you think its my other components then here are some specs. Intel i7-3820 (duh) Asus P9X79 motherboard Corsair Vengence low profile ram 4x4Gb in quad channel (CML16GX3M4A1600C9 if you want to know the part number) Evga 570 superclocked graphics card OCZ CX 850W power supply Corsair H60 AIO cooler. Included are some cpu-z shots, it says 1.296V but thats a lie, in the UEFI I set it to 1.320V for the VTT, other voltages weren't touched much RAM is still running on 1.5V

So I am in Singapore,so no newegg, amazon, ncix us etc for me. Asked this question b4 in toms hardware, and have been ignored.i dunno why. So here are the LGA2011 bundles i can get:(please do not suggest 4770K,it is much more expensive than 4820K or 3820,beyond my budget range unless i go with a non z motherboard) P9X79 Pro+ 3820(the shop that have this does not sell 4820K) P9X79 +4820K Sabertooth x79+ 3820(again,shop without 4820K)(stretching budget a bit) Rampage 4 gene +4820K GA X79 UP4+3820(shop have 4820K,but this does not have Ez flash, shop refuse to provide BIOS update) GA X79S UP5 Wifi+3820(stretching budget a bit,but looking at the enthusiastic review by linus,I made it an option)(no ez flash) GA X79 UD7+3820(no ez flash) Thanks for any help on which set should i choose;I am buying in november so no hurries.

Hello everyone, This topic is about a LGA2011 build using these parts: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/sogoodbybob/saved/2L65 Needs: High video editing and gaming on Ultra Settings and still to pull 120FPS so I can use 3D Vision on the monitor. Budget: Maximum 4000$ ( Peripherals Included in the price ) - LOCATION: It's not important I'm going to ship them from America (possibly) Why: This machine will be used for YouTube Channel and streaming on Twitch.TV via XSplit. Photoshop and Sony Vegas Pro 12 on it. Any questions.. Put them in the comments down below. This is kind of test I had previous topic for different PC but I will delete it. As you can see the parts I picked are around the 3200$ mark and with this beast I probably should go for Watercooling. ( Feel free to suggest bigger case (900D) and watercooling parts ) I won't be using the Video Card I picked in the list this is just to be close to the price point for the card that I'll be rocking with.... 780Ti

Hey everyone... i've been looking at components for MONTHS and now i'm getting close to be finally able to purchase them and build my first high end PC... now this might be a shallow question... i want to get a RIV BE... and i wanna put the OC Panel in the front of the case... on the first 5'25 bay... i'm a little concerned about the routing of the ROG_EXT cable... is it long enough to route it behind the motherboard tray?? ... Thanks in advanced!!
