New DAW build: i9 9900k or TR 1950x?
SavingPrincess posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Looking for anyone running either of these chips and hoping to hear some positives/regrets by going in either direction. If this isn't a good place for it, feel free to point me at some sort of audio hardware/DAW sub that I'm not aware of. Cheers and happy New Year! -
Hi guys, I installed 9900K recently into my HAF X case and used my almost working NZXT X61 AIO. I need to change my cooler as my temps are really high on idle. I kept on searching for a CPU cooler and ended up with below options. Cooler Master ML360R Corsair H150i NZXT X72 Noctua NH-D15 However I want to know if they are capable of cooling an overclocked 9900K? while keeping the temps and noise low? In the "Caffeine-Fueled Midnight PC Building Stream" I saw linus cooling the 9900K with Noctua nh-u12s is it sufficient? new suggestions are welcomed as well Edit 1: I received a reply from CM about their ML360R, saying "Hi 9900K is one of the hottest chip when OCed, according to some of the test data available online, it gets hot even with 360 mm radiator, and some test data when OCed has TDP getting close to the limit of our cooler"

Hey, gonna buy the i9 9900k as soon as it drops and after some research I feel like Asus ROG maximus xi code motherboard should be a nice fit for my use(probably gonna overclock it a fair bit), but what ram would go best with the z390? Anyone have some tips? At least 3000mhz and money isn't a issue. Also open to suggestions on what motherboard to get for better overclocking capabilities Cheers

I am new to building my own PCs but have quite a bit of experience with hardware and gaming. I was thinking of building the following build by paying with my soul, social security number and kidneys. But before I do I wanted to make sure I got nothing wrong. BTW in know the build is OTT but I’m hoping it’ll last at least 5 years. Build on PcPartPicker

I was watching Linus' video about how Intel killed their own product lineup and then I saw this: Is the information correct? According to Intel's website, the 7980XE base clock is 2.6GHz, not 3.2: Don't get me wrong guys, I love Linus all of his content, I'm just confused now.... Video Link: Intel's website link: https://ark.intel.com/products/126699/Intel-Core-i9-7980XE-Extreme-Edition-Processor-24-75M-Cache-up-to-4-20-GHz-

The Intel Core i9 Processors has come out to the general public! According to Intel The 9th Gen Intel® Core™ desktop processors the first unlocked mainstream desktop processor! Is the Intel Core i9 Processors are unlocked? According to the Following speed test is MUCH better than the Intel Core i7-7700K; See the following Speed Test chart found on PassMark This Intel Core i9-7900X speed is almost two times the amount of the Intel Core i7-7700K but what is the Dollar Amount to the speed and the Dollar Amount to the Benchmark (CPU Mark / $Price) You can find to pay around ONE Thousand Dollar which is a hefty price tag if you are a casual gamer! In fact, NewEgg priced this processor at a hefty $929.99! This was accessed Christmas 2018 but that is still a lot for a processor... This processor is NOT worth buying at this point because of the fact it is better in performance but is not better to performance for the price tag! See the Chart below that compares other processors to the Intel i9-7900X Personally, I feel like this processor is not worth the hefty price tag that is one its bounty! If you are a streamer or a professional competitive gamer it is NO QUESTIONS ASKED worth it BUT if you are a casual gamer an Intel i7 would work just a well as an Intel i9 would work for you! This processor is JUST not worth it for the average person as of Christmas of 2018!

Just trying to shave a few c off my system. I have a I9 9900k overclocked to 5.1 ghz at 1.29v, and a rtx 2080 ti oc bt around 100 mhz. All on a custom loop with a 360mm rad. It's hard lined and my case doesn't really permit for more rad or fans. My i9 is hitting 94c in realbench, and low 80s in games after a hour. For benchmarking I got the i9 to 5.3 ghz and it ran ok at 1.32v. I was wondering if there is any way I can bring the temp down? I use kryonaut paste.

I'm sure everyone here has seen the ads and Amazon listing for the i9-9900k processor, and maybe a few of you already have it. If so, you've probably noticed the claim that the new chip has "up to 40 platform PCIe lanes." I jumped at that because my blasted i7-7700T on a Z270 MB can't cope with dual M.2 SSDs AND a 1080 Ti. This results in an obvious bottleneck. The claim to 40 lanes had me excited because a mainstream processor would finally be able to cope with my workload...then I looked at Intel's site. On their listing as well as on their "Ark" product index site, the processor is said to only have 16 PCIe lanes. This obviously wouldn't be any better than my current processor (besides the boost in performance from overclocking, better Turbo Boost, newer platform, etc.) for coping with my workload. Does anyone have the real number of lanes, or can explain the difference in numbers? I don't want to drop $530 on a CPU before knowing whether or not this is gonna fix my problem.

I am a designer and it’s been just 2 months since I started working on AE (2015 CC) and although I learned a lot, I’ve had great difficulty to understand the right configuration you would need for AE application. I went ahead and purchased Inspiron 15 Gaming 7567, which has the following configuration • Processor - 7th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ Quad Core 2.80GHz (6MB Cache, up to 3.8 GHz) • Operating System - Windows 10 Home 64-bit English • Memory - 32GB, 2400MHz, DDR4 • Hard Drive - 128GB Solid State Drive (Boot) + 1TB 5400RPM Hard Drive (Storage) • Video Card - NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050Ti with 4GB GDDR5 • Display - 15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare LED-Backlit Display Although the speed was decent enough at the time of learning ( through your tutorials), the “ Preview “ time that it was taking was slow to say the least. I went ahead and installed another 16 GB RAM( making it 32 GB in Total), yet the preview time hasn’t improved much. During my research, I came across people who are advising me to go for a XEON processor while on the other hand, some have advised to stick with I7 but go for a NVIDIA QUADRO Graphic Card instead of an NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX. There are those who say that XEON processor’s only help to render fast but they don’t impact the preview time. I am in the process of purchasing a new laptop and I’ve decided to go with Dell Precision Workstations . I can customize the configuration I need but the biggest question is 1) What Processor ( An I9 with a higher base frequency or a XEON processor ?) 2) How Much RAM ( I am thinking 32 + GB would be ideal) 3) What type of Graphics Card ( NVIDIA QUADRO or NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX, if it is QUADRO which model gives me enough boost? P4000 may be? ) 4) Hard Drive – 500 GB PCIe NVMe Class 40 Solid State Drive Just to illustrate the kind of issue’s I’ve been facing, I’ve attached 3 GIF’s files. Request you to look at them With so much confusion out there, I don’t want to spend a lot of money and end with so so results. I really value your expert opinion in this regards Thanks - TVR

I noticed Hardware unboxed showed siginificant worse performance on z370 compared to z390, due to power limits, he did turn them off, but there was still a performance gap. I have pre-ordered the i9-9900K and waiting to install it on my z370 board (sold my i7-8700k) but looks like im going to wait a little while as Intel have stocking issues in Norways retailers. Hence should i go ahead and try and sell my z370 board to buy the z390? He did say in the video "cheaper"/"lower end" z370 boards, and i have a MSI Z370 Gaming M5, not exactly low end, but not very high end either (180$ now on amazon, 200$ msrp). Is my board good enough to sufficiently power the i9 wtihout bottlenecking it? Thanks in advance

Hi fellow Canadians ! Does anyone know when the i9-9900K will be available for sale in Canada ? I have been checking Amazon Canada's website several times a day, and there's not even a pre-order at this point. ? Canada Computers had no pre-order either. The product is listed, but on "back order" as is always the case when a new product is about to hit the market. If they get the chip before Amazon Canada, I'll be buy there, but I have to tell you, I've already bought a few things for my new system build off of Amazon, the pricings are great, and many times you just can't beat Amazon pricing, and their delivery. ( order today and you get it tomorrow ) ( even on a weekend ) Anyway, I can't believe I'm so eager to get this chip, and get a new system built. Hmm.... chip.... chips..... salt and vinegar please ! ?

I am looking to build a PC for Gaming and Content Creation with little concern for price. I am in Orange County, California, USA. (Gaming 4k Max settings High FPS) (Video/Photo Editing 4k) (Music Production) Here is my part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/eliyahuofficial/saved/JTP7WZ I believe everything is there except X2 Intel Optane SSD 800P Series (118GB) My Questions: What power supply watt should I get? I am looking at the 1000w Platinum by Corsair for my build. (Basic overclocking will be performed) I want to run Raid for drive protection and speed I am under the impression Raid 10 is the best option? What is required software/hardware? Also, I would like to know if I am missing anything and alternative compatibility issues? And lastly, if I can just get overall advice/ help/suggestions for this build I would appreciate it! (Experience level: Newb with 100 hours of Linus, Jay, Bitwit, Hardware Canucks, etc.) XD

Hi, So i am awaiting my i9 9900K (don't get it until November despite early pre-order), and I am a big fan of delidding, i delidded my i5-3570K and saw siginificant thermal benefits, was about to delid my i7-8700K but decided recently to wait it out and sell it to finance the i9 purchase. Debauer (de8auer?) showed 8 degrees lower average temperature, which from 90 to 82 degrees, is still a significant thermal gain. Thus I am considering delidding it. But the i9 is soldered, i am experienced in delidding before, but is the procedure different for the i9? and if so, how/what equipment is needed. thanks in advance

I have a GTX 1080 Founders Edition and a ROG XG32VQR monitor I recently bought a Maximus XII Formula + i9 10900k I mounted updated bios and everything. When I start the PC with XG32VQR in DisplayPort I get Error Code D6 and 3 beeps + I cannot enter Bios. But when I try with another monitor with DisplayPort it doesn't beep and it doesn't show any Error Code When I start with HDMI it works and it does not beep. Anyone knows how to fix it? Is the problem at the monitor or the GPU Also the GPU benchmark at userbenchamark cannot be completed with any monitor or any cable Display or HDMI

So I've made this post on a few other forums but got no replies or input so figured I would try making an account here, This is my post/question: Im using it with a Gigabyte Z490 Gaming X board and would like some input and advice on how to safely overclock as I have never done it for a CPU before just GPUs. Have it running all cores at 5.1 right now hwinfo64 says it is running at 1.405v to 1.415 at the highest, I don't know if this is safe, what changes I should make and the best way to do this, I know virtually nothing when it comes to CPU overclocking, pretty much just looked at a few videos and then set up the pc for 5.1, Highest temp I saw it hit was 80c playing FS2020, I tried 5.2 for giggles but that shot to 91c on fs2020 so I bumped it back down to 5.1 Also, with all this talk of the 3000 series from nvidia, what is the highest wattage this cpu will pull? I want to make sure ill have enough power, I think I'll need a new power supply though if I get a 3080 and keep the oc on the 10900k, I currently have a 750bq from Evga

Hey guys I have a Dell Xps 15 (the old one 2018) with a i9 in it, the problem is that the chip runs at around 53-57 degrees. While idling... The power manager of Dell is put in cooling mode, I dont know what to do... Is it really a problem ? Do you have a idea what I could do ? Thanks in advance. ( I attached a picture of the Cpu usage and temps while idling)

[FOR EXPERIENCED PEOPLE ONLY] Hello everyone, my name is Jason and I just build my new computer, back in the day there the technology was simple and straight forward, but now those stupid RGB and Hub and new port and all I am really confused… and I need help to learn how to build a computer AGAIN… This is where you come in, my tech savior (lol): -First, I need to Test my CPU if he is legit and I should keep it before the 30 days end, I have a i9 9900K. So, if you know how to test a CPU thank you in advance! -Second, I think my GPU is defect and I should just return it and use my GTX 1070 while the RTX 30 series come out? BUT I want to test if my GPU is fine and how I should set it up because it’s a EVGA and those are using the trash Precision X1 app to control the RGB, SO, if you know another way to control those RGB I WILL BE SO HAPPY.. I have a EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER FTW3 ULTRA GAMING, and I am really not sure about EVGA I don’t trust them so if you can tell me reassure me and telling me that EVGA are fine I’ll really appreciate it. So, if you know how to test a GPU thanks in advance! EDIT: Oh and I've paid this card $799.00 CAD so I am pretty sure it would be better for me to ask a refund and wait the RTX 3070... -Third, I want to test my RAM to know if it is defect of not. So, if you know how thank you. -Fourth, I’ve always used MSI Motherboard and GPU but now I have bought a trash ASUS motherboard full of crap apps that have to be installed to work properly (It’s like ASUS never fucking build a PC… A FREAKING MICRO USB ON A FREAKING AIO PUMP, WTF MAN…) SO I want to know how to setup this freaking BIOS and which App and software I really need for the ASUS MB to work properly. Thank you in advance! -Fifth, Fans yes fans… I never really took care of the air in my PC tower but now with all those Linus Video I’ve watch I want it to be perfect lol… SO I want to review my air flow and fans to know what should I do for better cooling and air flow. -And for last… Finally (lol), Cable management I will share some pictures and tell me what you will have done better so I can try it and change it. SO, I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone that have took time to read this post and if you can help, Thank you in advance and I am REALLY grateful! PS. If you wanna see my build go on my Profil page. Best Regards, Jason

My question is, what will the NH-L9I handle as cooling capabilities go. I want to build a pc that can only house a L9I, I want to know if I can put a i9 9900 non K under it and still be in happy temps land. If this is not possible would changing it out for a 9700 do it? Maybe changing out the included fan to a industrial PPC noctua fan? If anyone has suggestions leave em below. I have no use in people telling me the TDP and wattage thats on the intel site, I'm well aware that the intel site says 65W but in reality the I9 9900 doesn't even come close to this efficient. No I am not going with Ryzen I know they have great offerings but I dont like jumping on the new tech train. If your not convinced, Jayz made a whole video about why new tech is great but not always reliable.

Well how's this look for a 24/7 oc on my old 9900k? I think after I bought it at launch I finally found it's max. Idk how this compares to the 10th gen though.

Hi guys, I have MSI H310M PRO-M2 motherboard and recently I just upgraded my CPU to intel core i9 9900K. Everything seems to be fine. But I just want to know if this motherboard is going to destroy my CPU in the future or what because it is running fine and I did not overclock it. I leave the bios setting default as it is and only enable XMP profile. It runs at 4.7ghz all core and I don't mind getting this speed. If it is going to kill my CPU somehow, I will upgrade the motherboard.
