To preface I built this computer with help from a more tech savvy friend. Forgive me if I have to ask stupid questions I built my computer five years ago specifically designed to play flight simulators. It used to run the games. I played without issue for four years but recently the most games I played crash after five minutes after launching. what makes it even stranger is that they run perfectly fine before they crash. I had this issue for around a year now. I updated the graphics drivers from Nvidia and that stopped the instant crashing for about a day and then it went back. Last I checked the temperature on the CPU in GPU were both fine. I just recently cleaned out my computer and hard reset windows. The games used to crash the desktop only, but now they crash as you see here. Weird artifacts on the screen and then it shut off and restart my computer… I’m not very knowledgeable about this, but it looks like a GPU failure. Is there anything I can do or try to confirm? Specs: Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8600K CPU @ 3.60GHz, 3600 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 6 Logical Processor(s) RAM CORSAIR Vengance LPX 32.0 GB RAMM Motherboard MSI Z370 gaming plus LGA 1151 (300 series) Intel z370 motherboard PSU Corsair HX series HX750 750W power supply GPU MSI GeForce GTX 1080 DirectX 12 GTX 1080 DUKE 8G OC video cards HDD WD 4TB desktop hard disk drive 5400 RPM Sata 6gb/s 64mb cache 3.5 Inch 2 500GB SSDs

Hi guys, I was cleaning my 1080 and installing new thermal pads when I accidently broke off a capacitor during disassembly. My question is, does anyone have experience resoldering SMD capacitors on GPUs and if so what solder do you use and what type of hot tweezers work best (required wattage)? In the picture I've attached you can see there is some copper showing so I think my best bet would be to remove the older solder with copper wicking, tin the copper contacts and then resolder the capacitor. Any advice for resoldering SMD components would be appreciated.

So I had a GTX 1060 3GB along with i7-8700 cpu before I bought a used GTX 1080 in a good condition. I noticed that my gpu gets different fps from benchmarks that I've seen for the games I play and this is really frustrating for me. For example, playing Mafia Definitive edition my fps varies between 90 and drops to 45 and utilization is 60-70 perc most of the time, never passing 80. Another game is valorant where my fps varies between 190 and 80 which is a very huge gap and I have alot of drops when action happens. Also my gpu utilization here is stuck on 20-30% and same for my cpu. How do I get my gpu utilization to increase as I think that I'm getting performance which is close to my old GTX 1060 3gb(which on most games had utilization stuck at 90-100%) These are my full specs: CPU: i7-8700 (non k) GPU: GTX 1080 8GB GIGABYTE MB: Asus H370-A prime RAM: 16gb crucial 2400 Mhz PSU: MASTERWATT LITE 600W Monitor: AOC 24G2 1080p 144hz OS: Windows 10 Education 64 bits

Hello, I just got my second hand GTX 1080 and in tests like Heaven benchmark and Furmark it gets close to 90 degrees. I also tested it in Dota 2 and there it stays around 70 degrees. I think it's a good idea to change the thermal paste but why not change the pads ass well. The problem is i couldn't find anywhere what pads I need. So what thickness should they be and is there something more to it that i should know? Thanks in advance!

Hello, I'm buying a second hand computer with: VIDEOCARD: MSI NVIDIA GEFORCE GAMING X GTX1080 8GB CPU: AMD 5 1600X 3.6Ghz DDRAM: 2x8192MB GOODRAM 2400MHz HDD: SEAGATE 1T 7200 SSD: SAMSUNG 250GB 850 EV MAINBOARD: ASROCK A320M-DSG POWER SUPPLY: ZALMAN 600W CASE: ZALMAN ZM-T3 I'm wondering if the cpu will bottleneck the gpu. I will mainly play on 1080p as thats my monitor's resolution but i may try using DSR and play on 2k or 4k if the game runs well.

Hi everybody. I am Bjorn from the netherlands. Aka Blade21 / Blade00021 It's been a long time since i posted a full pc build. I hope you guys like this crazy stupid project! Next to customizing cars and modding them so you can drive your car with a remote control.... I also love building PC's! Clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exAkFbXiorQ WHAT am i building? I decided to build a desk PC. My last PC's where custom Mountain mod's and Danger Den's. I like big cases and many screens So now i wanted to do something different. But it had to be something 'special' / a real eye catcher and functional. After looking for hours around the internet for inspiration from other pc desk builders... i was strucked! There are so many INSANE and beautiful pc desks in the world... No way i could beat those designs. + I have a big desk for my large danger den case and i also do electronics work/ soldering etc. I didn`t liked the idea having a great fancy desk pc. And the desk next to it will be 'normal'. So i dropped the idea for a few months. >> .....Untill i saw the 'desk' from Batman in the movie: Batman vs Superman. I just loved the design! It's big / it has side desks/ and i am pretty sure its one of a kind. How much ROOM would you have for PC stuff! But man...thats a big desk! Can i pull if off? I do a lot of customizing on PC's and cars. But this was something else. However, i was a Laser operator. So i designed and lasercut stuff like acrylic and i can also bend it. So the 'vent' design on the desk should be possible. Wat really pulled me over the line... The desk is suspended from the ceiling. I thought screw it. I am gonna start building it!! Just 1 thing, i want to give it a gamers/ ROG theme. I am sure Batman will love RGB >>> I will show you guys the building progress of this INSANE project. I luv to hear you guys comments! HATE IT? / LUV IT? / INSANITY? > YES! Pictures of the build will follow soon!

I just bought a GTX 1080 from the used market and this is the first time I’ve bought a used component ever so I don’t know how prices are. I bought the 1080 for US$ 540. Also note that I live in India where we don’t get as many graphic cards anyway so everything is more expensive. Plus due to the shortages and price hikes everywhere this is the cheapest one I could find that had decent performance. Is this a good deal given the current situation of the market?

Using an ROG Zephyrus GX501VI and having difficulty with memory clocks. The clock won't even change from 810MHz! It was fine until a few months ago (I went on an indi-game binge and didn't notice when I lost performance. I have since reinstalled windows and done everything I could think of to get the clock to change at all. Everything that had an ECO mode I disabled so it's not that. The battery is removed but it performed well after that happened last year. Anyone have any idea what I could try at this stage? Thanks!

TLDR: Do I have a bottleneck somewhere? Am I expecting too much of games to be coded a bit better? Am I the only one that has noticed a trend that coding seems to be getting more and more bloated? Am I just nuts? After 6 months of delays and cancelled orders and scrambling around to get a good deal, I finally bought a 6800XT for $1700AUD. Turns out, I could have saved all my headache and some cash by just sticking to my GTX 1080. Long story, I installed all drivers and made sure my BIOS was up to date, and most of the games I was "saving" for my new upgrade, somehow run (slightly) worse. At this point, I'm not sure if the game I am trying to run are just so badly optimised, or if I have some setting turned on (or off) that is causing all this headache. I am at the end of my tether. I've tried everything I can think of. My Time Spy score was around 14k. Everything seems to be fine, however I am only getting at most 90W draw in games like AC: Odyssey and Destiny 2. GPU usage (as well as CPU and Ram) tend to sit around 50% and none spike to 100%. I did have a daisy chained set-up for my GPU (which i have now rectified), but it didn't make any improvement. At most, under Time Spy testing I get 272W at default clock and settings. Thought I was going mad so i installed Doom: Eternal (bless id and their coding) and I get 300 fps at Ultra Nightmare settings running at 1440p. I get capped 120fps in EFT as well, which, to my dismay, made me no better at the game. Who knew that I would spend the first 48hrs of a new GPU, screwing around with in-game settings trying to get over 80fps at 1440p

Hello everyone I have an PC with an I7-6700k and an MSI GTX1080 its about 3 maybe 4 years old and i started encountering issues: Explanation: Recently I've started getting huge lag spikes in games that basicly makes them unplayable. For example lets say im playing Overwatch (it hapens in every other game aswell) the same settings I've always played on since it came out (https://prosettings.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Overwatch-Graphic-Settings.jpg) here is a link to the same settings. So one day im playing without any issues and suddenly my game CRASHES, this is the first time a game ever crashed on this PC which confused me but i sad okay it happens then i restarted the game got back in but the game kept going fom 400fps down to 1fps and back to 200fps and so on and so forth, it was just jumping all arround the place and when i took a look at the task manager i saw that my gpu was running at 99% usage!! And ever since that day im unable to play any game without lagging my GPU immediatly jumps to above 80% usage but temps stay normal. Troubleshooting: - At first I thought maybe its thermals but nope its running fine arrund 65-75 degrees celcius and there is not dust on it or in it - Then i thought it was drivers so I unninstalled drivers from Windows10 device manager reinstalled new ones but it didn't help the same problem persisted - I tried Googling the problem but changing the settings didn't help (https://prnt.sc/zwr21o) here is what i changed - If anyone is wondering no I haven't changed any parts in my pc since i bought it so there could be no bottlenecking - I also installed all windows updates which didn't resolve any issues Conclusion: I have no idea what might be causing these issues with my GPU and I really need help with it, I will be responding underneath the thread providing any additional information you might need and i will be updating the thread with new information. Please help ***************************************************** Me from the future who fixed the issue (it was something wrong with the drivers) - removed the gpu from the pc - removed the CMOS battery and cleared it by holding power button on my case - added back the battery started the pc, display port now plugged in to motherboard - by using display driver unninstaller i unninstalled all the drivers for my gpu and removed all related software - inserted the gpu back in to the pc - turned it on installed NVIDIA drivers and it was all back to normal

Hello guys . I was playing cyberpunk for a couple of days and I wasn't so pleased with my fps so I decided to oc my GPU I used the gigabyte software to oc manually . I was running tests with heaven benchmark , I tried to go on 2100 MHz and I couldn't so I stopped at 2088 that my card runed smoothly . So I was ready to play and see how many fps I would achieve more. (My goal was 10 fps ) . So when is started the game the rendering was aufull I could see noise and particles on the glossy objects. So I reset to default all the settings on my GPU I reinstalled the latest drivers from nvdia and still I have the same issue when playing the rendering is bad as hell. I tried other games in some of them I am good and no such issue . Also ok the heaven benchmark when I runned it again with no oc I had the same particles on the ship that's floating on the canons. I think I just broke my GPU... I hope the photo that I am attaching is clear so you can see what I mean . GPU: gigabyte gtx 1080 g1 gaming CPU: Ryzen 7 1700x Ram: 16gb

Im looking to upgrade my RX 580 8gb and I have found an offer for a GTX 1080 (non ti) for $250 and with all of the new graphics cards coming out I want to know if the GTX 1080 is still a good value. I do plan to get up to the current generation once either AMD or Nvidia release some good cards in the lower price range but I don't think that is going to happen until January or February, and my 580 just isn't cutting it anymore for flight simulator 2020. $250 is relatively low for a 1080 compared the average that seems to be around $300 but how will that price stay once the new AMD gpus and (possibly) lower range gpus release? I dont care that much about long term performance, I just need it to last me until the lower end gpus release and not bust my ass on depreciation.

Hey guys, A little bit of background info: My system is an older X79 with an Asus Sabertooth X79, Intel Xeon E5-2697 v2, Gigabyte GTX1080 G1 and 16GB of G.Skill Ripjaws. I was running 3 older 1080p 60hz dell ultrasharp monitors till yesterday. So I got 3 new monitors (AOC C27G2) and installed them. Everything seemed to work fine except one monitor keeps cutting out randomly and doesn't recover for a quite a long time and it suddenly pops up (it seems to be random). I was initially worried that it was one of my monitors but changing the displayports each monitor is plugged into changes which monitor gets cut out. So it seems to be an issue that stems from the gpu... (its the first displayport from the left that is causing this.) Whats weird is that before I was using the same 3 displayports to output to my old monitors and they were fine. The only difference is that my new monitors are 165hz and my old ones were 60hz. I'm also using the same dell DisplayPort 1.2 cables I was previously using. So far I've tried: Uninstalling and reinstalling nvidia drivers, rolling back to older drivers, turning nvidia surround on and off, resetting the monitors and lowering the refresh rate to 120hz. Nothing seems to fix it. Does anyone know what might be going on or can offer any advice? Thanks in advance!

Hello, just completed my first build, but I was wondering if I am facing bottleneck somewhere. It mostly play Rainbow Six Siege, but I noticed fps aren't as high as expected. They stay around 90-110 fps at 1080p. My target is to stay on an avg fps of 144 Specs: msi optix G271 144hz Ryzen 5 2600x (Stock Cooler, Precision Boost Overdrive Enabled) GTX 1080 Founders Edition (No overclock) G Skill Trident Z RGB (For Amd) 3600Mhz 16GB (Currently at 2800Mhz, 1.36v, timings 18, 22, 22, 42, higher speeds make the game crash or blue screen and not so sure how to overclock it) Asus Tuf B450 Gaming Plus (Atx motherboard) Game on a Seagate 7200rpm barracuda hdd Monitorig with afterburner I saw like a max of CPU usage of 72% and Gpu max usage of 80-86% All settings on the highest with anti-aliasing on T-AA render scale of 100% so it's true 1080p. I tried lowering the settings but notices higher cpu usage and lower gpu usage and fps seems to maintain the around the same.

Hey, after getting rid of my rx 5700xt because i thought it was too hot, i got myself a gtx 1080ftw by evga. After installing it and starting a game i basically got the same problems as with my rx 5700xt. when in game i get temps up to 75°C and on idle the card stays on 45-50°C. The card also is very loud while having these temps. i guess it all could only be a software issue, but i already ran ddu over my system and made fresh nvidia installs, nothing seems to help. The 1060 6gb i had before never went over 65°C. I know that it is a less powerful card but the pre owner of the 1080 only had temps around 65°C while gaming so something must be wrong with my system or software. Has anyone experienced similar problems and knows how to fix them?

Hello Guys, this will be an somewhat long story but hopefully someone is reading it and has some good advice. The main issue is that my GTX1080 does not output to Displayport after an cold boot. I have 3 monitors connected to it via HDMI, DVI and Displayport. HDMI and DVI work just fine but Displayport shows no signal after cold boot, if i restart after the cold boot the DP monitor gets picked up and works just fine. Lets move on to the symptoms and configuration i use: GPU: Gigabyte GTX1080 GV-N1080xtreme 8GD-PP CPU: i7-6700K @4,5GHz Mobo: Asrock Z170 Xtreme 6 RAM: 32 GB G-Skill Ripjaws V (4 Modules) @3200MHz SSD: Samsung 960 Pro 500GBAnd some other SSD and HDD for Storage and stuff OS: Windows 10 latest version The system did work fine for the last few years, lately I was messing around with OC and the iGPU from the i7. Did connect the outer 2 monitors (HDMI and DVI) to the iGPU. Everything worked fine and ones of a sudden the issue appeared. Now it dosent mather if I enable or disable the iGPU the DP monitor hooked up to the 1080 is not recognized after cold boot. Interesting thing is that the monitor (DP one) wakes up on cold boot but then wents back to no signal. Also back in windows MSI Afterburner for example does not recognize the GPU and shows 0 for Clockspeed and so on (only after restarting Afterburner it shows correct numbers). What I did try so far: Reinstall Windows completly Reinstall GPU driver Flash GPU BIOS Clear CMOS Revert BIOS to default Dial back any OC i had Swap DP Port on the GPU Try to restart GPU driver in Windows with STRG+Windows+Shift+B None of the above changed anything. The next things I will try now is to switch to the second BIOS chip on the Mainboard and maybe clear everything by clear CMOS and removing the BIOS Battery. Searched the Internet for possible solution and some people seem to have this issue with different GPU´s also from older series. None of the people on the internet seemed to fix it so far... Would be very thankful for any advice you have on how to maybe fix this. If you need any other information just let me know. Cheers

A few months ago I built my first gaming rig, and decided to stuff it with an R7 3700x paired with two GTX 1080 FE in SLI. I got a stupid good deal on the pair of cards with the high bandwidth bridge thrown in. But as of late I've found myself at a bit of a crossroad. After doing some research I've found out that while SLI can be fun, it has some caveats. So the question I'm posing is this...considering that I got a really good deal on the cards that I have, should I stick with them? Or should I upgrade to a RTX 2080ti and sell my current cards? And for either choice, please explain why I should go that route. Thanks!

Hey guys! So I'm planning on building my first gaming / multimedia / music production PC this month and I wanted to hear your feedback on my spec choices. Also, I have one question that really keeping me up at night: Is it worth it picking up RTX 2060 S for 480 usd when I can get new GTX 1080 for 370 usd? (I don't care that much about RTX technology as it is, especially knowing that 2060s wouldn't be powerfull enough to run games with it in 2k anyways). Here are parts I've chosen and approx. price on them (converted from local currency): Intel Core i5 9600KF $210 Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black $85 MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Plus $140 G.Skill DDR4-3000 Ripjaws V Red 16GB $80 !!! MSI GeForce RTX 2060 Super Gaming X $480 OR MSI GeForce GTX 1080 GAMING X 8G $370 !!! PATRIOT Viper VPN100 512 GB $90 Toshiba P300 2TB $55 be quiet! Straight Power 11 550W $115 NZXT H510 Matte Black-Red $90 Total Build Price: $1,345 / $1,235 + Monitor: 31.5" LG UltraGear 32GK650F-B $370 (if anyone wondering) P.S. All suggestions, comments and questions are greatly appreciated. P.P.S. Suggesting AMD build will give me anxiety attack, I've spent too many hours on this one. P.P.P.S. Stay safe everyone!

Im posting this because COD warzone started crashing on startup, tried troubleshooting, nothing helped, im rocking a GALAX GTX 1080 HOF, a Ryzen 5 1600, 8GB 3200Mhz DDR4 with a B450 AORUS ELITE, and a 500w EVGA with 80PLUS White certification, the problem is, im getting microstutters in almost every heavy game, like Metro Exodus, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which both run fine, but starts stuttering like crazy when assets are loading though runs at a stable framerate, but the stutter makes them unplayable, (rocket league and games like that have no problem) and ever since i got warzone when i play it at the beggining of the round started like crazy stutter, and also when i tried to aim, and i didn't understood why that happened, i thought maybe it was the the disk drive(which is a seagate 1tb) also because Escape from Tarkov stuttered like crazy when i had it on the 1tb drive, but it got fixed when i moved it to the SSD, and EFT is also kinda a heavy game, so i bought a Samsung NVME 960 EVO just today, and arrives at May 4th, then i'll try to verify if the disk really was the cause of the problem, the thing is today every time i open Warzone the game crashes at menu, and i really started to think the problem is the 500w psu, i dont know if websites that calculate your wattage are real, but i got 383 watts from seasonic website, anyone willing on giving a little advice? 8(
