So I don't know if I phrased that very well, but basically, I am just about to finish my pc build. All I have left to put in is my storage... But I'm a little confused. I have a fresh, brand new 500 GB SSD from Samsung and am planning on using my old 2 TB HDD after formatting it. I think formatting is the word, pretty much I want to start fresh. SSD for Windows, programs, and maybe a game or two. HDD for mass storage. Pretty much how do I get a clean slate? To prefix, I can only find my older post on this topic that seems to have died. If this is the wrong place let me know! I have a 148Gb NVME drive from KingDion that will not format. Using diskpart i can get to 100% then errors out saying incorrect procedure. Following others suggestions I have ran both a clean and clean all command however both error out incorrect as well. Is there any way to get past this without downloading some random program?

If I'm understanding this correctly (and there's a chance that I am) - there are 3 variables to video file formatting: 1.) Container (I've chosen .MOV); 2.) Video codec (I've chosen H.264); and 3.) Audio codec (I've chosen AAC). How stable are these formats in the long run? I am in the midst of a long and arduous process of creating a beautifully organized archive of all of the data I've created and accumulated over the course of my life. I'd like to one day pass it along to my kids, and hopefully they can even pass it along for a few more generations as well. So far, all of my video files are in the stated format. Ideally, I do not want to run them through another compression. For those who are curious, my photos are all in .JPG format and my documents are all in plain text .TXT format. I welcome any input on improving the long-term stability of this archiving project.

I’ve just got a new hard drive but my mac won’t accept it as boot unless it’s formatted in a mac readable format - it’s simply not readable by the volatile system (which is what’s run if no OS is found). I’ve ordered a usb to sata cable to format the drive from another mac, but can i format the drive (as OS X extended journaled) in windows? tl:dr --> How do i format a clean ssd as OS X extended journaled, as opposed to exFAT etc., from a pc? Thanks -Harry

Hello everyone, I'm trying to reinstall Windows 10 on my 500GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD. When I get to the part where I can select which partition I want to install it on, here is what I see : I click on "New", and then "Apply" when it warns me that Windows might have to create extra partitions. This is what I get : I select that Drive 2 Partition 4, and try to install it. It gets to the next step (where it copies the file) but it stops soon after with this error : What am I doing wrong? I tried using "diskpart" to format the volume to FAT32 but it says that it's too big. Thanks for the help!

Couldnt find a forum topic for this so i posted here So im doing a project for my church, my associate pastor made a memorandum kind of dvd with old pictures of church as an anniversary celebration (were 150 years old!). But when he handed out the dvd, nobody could figure out how to play it on their dvd players. So here's what happend. Nobody at my church is very techie, so the disc was very poorly made. My associate pastor scanned pictures he found at the library and copied all the .jpg files onto a disc. So the scanner copied some photos more than once and none of the pictures were organized. So the only way to veiw the images was to open the jpg, close it, open the next, ect. All the images are simply called image1,image2,image3,l ect. So to help everyone who does not own a computer, or just cant veiw it, i decided to help them. I want to convert all the images into a slideshow .mp4 file, then convert that into a readable dvd by a dvd player. Now what i need is software to convert images into a mp4 file slideshow, and software to convert the mp4 into a file type that is readable by a dvd player. Thank you in advance for anyone that can help.

So a few months ago, I abruptly lost the sound coming from my computer. Some people told me to update the audio drivers. I did so and nothing came out of the audio jacks. A few months afterwards, I had the idea of running an HDMI cable through my graphics card into a spare TV that I own with built in speakers (as my monitor does not). It worked. This has led me to believe that it is an issue with the board rather than drivers. Months later, I have gotten really tired of having a massive TV as well as a monitor on my desk in order to enjoy my games, movies, videos, and music without going to another computer or my phone. With that, I decided to buy a new motherboard. Whether or not it fixes the problem, I wanted a bit more overclocking stability so I'm fine with the investment. I am upgrading from a MSI Z87 board to a MSI Z97 board. I know how to install it and all, but as I look at the new board I am afraid to install it. Are there going to be problems with hardware, software, drivers, and my hard drives if I simply switch out the drives? How should I go about doing this? I am moving into my dorm for my first year of college tomorrow so I am not necessarily planning on doing it today or the immediate future. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for the help, y'all.

Hey guys, So I have a old laptop from 2012 that I've upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 last year (2015), but it has some problems and it's very slow. Problems: - Crashes - Freezes - Very slow So I had the idea of freshly installing Windows 10, so all the clutter on the Windows files disappear and the PC runs faster. But I've never done a fresh install of Windows trough a digital from (I've only done it with a Windows install disc). I watched some videos on Youtube for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NT0KFR09Svc But the question I have is: After formatting and reinstalling Windows 10, will it ask me for the product key? I have the Product key on the back of the Laptop of Windows 7, will it be the same key as the newly upgraded Windows 10? Thank you for all answers, Leonsroses

Dear LTT Forum, So I have a bit of an issue with my mother's personal computer. At the airports while we were traveling, they kept requiring her to turn her computer on (and quickly off) to prove it was not incendiary. This, I speculate, caused the HDD disk header to get corrupted and would need to be recreated through a simple bootdisk fix. However, mothers being mothers, she decided, when prompted on boot, to simply hit return for any option without reading it. I again speculate that with the C partition having a corrupted header, the ASUS laptop loaded into its D Recovery partition with the main option being a complete restore of the factory system (including a wonderful formatting of the C drive). She of course chose this option, and now it is up to her son to correct it. Two basic questions: 1) Does the ASUS recovery feature for R704A laptops keep a temporary copy of the Windows 7 version it is overwriting? Can I restore this? 2) Why the hell would ASUS allow for hitting enter several times to wipe an entire drive, doesn't that violate some unwritten common sense clause against low-grade users? I'm not exactly holding my breath in regards to question 1, I'm just going to attempt to bit-by-bit restore it via another software, but before I do so want to make sure there isn't a way easier method. I'd really love an ASUS representative to answer 2 though. Thank you, Dmitri

I upgraded to Windows 10 from W7 Ultimate edition a couple days ago and decided to do a clean install of the OS. I used the media creation tool from the MS website to get a flash drive prepped only to find that it wasn't booting into the setup. The bios recognized it as a UEFI boot device.(Asus m5a97). the flash drive is FAT32 formatted and i made sure that CSM was enabled. It still failed to boot into the setup menu ans was stuck at the asus logo. Will downloading an ISO of the OS and setting it for on the USB using rufus help? or am i missing out on some settings within the bios itself. Any help'd be appreciated. i'm super eager to start using my SSD and want to get this out of the way ASAP. Thanks :))

I have a 250 gig Samsung 750 EVO on the way and want to switch to W10 from W7 Ultimate Edition-the latter of which is currently installed on a 1TB HDD. I want to do a clean install of the OS (i already have it on a flash drive) I want to reformat/wipe the HDD and want to know what the specifics of doing that are during the installation process. And for reals, is the switch worth it? Feel free to share your experience and opinions. The main reason for upgrading was DX12 and the "exclusive" titles that are coming to the platform. Any help'd be appreciated

Hi, so i bought a new 4tb hard drive and currently have a 256 boot ssd and 2tb hard drive for my media and game storage. the first problem i have is do i need to do anything special in formatting of my new 4tb hard drive for windows to recognize it or anything (i have windows 10).My second question is it possible for me to just copy everything in my current 2tb hard drive over to my 4tb hard drive then change the drive letters and have it work. if not is there a simple way to do this since i want to use my current 2tb hard drive for only certain files like video document and such and have the 4tb for all my games and some other apps Thanks for any advice/help or tips

Hey guys, so today I plugged in one of my portable hard drives and when I went into one of the folders MSE said that threats detected were being cleaned. Curious enough I went to its history and made it show all items and apparently it came up with Ramnit.GenA and ramnit.remants or something similar. I immediately took out my portable and did a quick scan on my laptop too make sure nothing was infected on that and so far it seems its safe for now and am currently doing a full scan and so far nothings been detected. I am however worried about my portable, the ramnit it seems to be only coming from one folder that was a back up of my older computer, at least that's where the pathing is going but I didn't do a complete check because I was worried. Would the best steps to be to get one of those boot menu anti viruses like Kaspersky has and run the scan through the portable through one of those and then use something like hitmango to see if anything is still there?

Here's the deal. I'm trying to print about 50 pages worth of revision material but when I paste it into Word the colour formatting is still present: (short extract:) Red Shift explained The colour light appears is based on its wavelength. Imagine looking straight along a wavy line. From your position at one end the waves will be foreshortened. Thus a yellow/green wavelength would look more blue or more purple because it appears to be shorter. Imagine pulling a wavy line away from you. This would make the waves appear longer. Therefore, the same greeny yellow light would look more orange or red. Light from galaxies moving away from us has been stretched in the same way which distorts the wave length. I want to keep the bold/highlighted text but don't want the purple-ish theme.. How do I do this?

I have an older computer that I will give to my younger sister but the internet doesn't work. Neither WiFi nor Ethernet. I've tried a bunch of things. My next approach is formatting the disk and I have some questions regarding how formatting works on Windows 7. What files will be deleted? Will the widows files (all the files that makes windows work) ramain? If not, what can I do so that thay stay? I have a Windows 8.1 disk, but I used that on my own computer. Will I be able to use it again if all the windows files is deleted from the old one?

Hello guys! So I'm planning to upgrade my rig with new Kingston SSDNow V300 240GB but my concern is my old HDD. Its 500gb drive bought about 5 years ago. I also like to reinstal multiple operating systems quite frequently. So now it looks quite messy and with possibility of having multiple hidden viruses I got the idea to somehow restore it to full factory state. So my question is - is there any way to do this procedure? HOpe for answers.

So basically, I have a Linux (Ubuntu 14.04) partition and created a partition to install Windows on. The only issue being that my drive is formatted to MBR and not GPT - Windows, according to the installer, can only install to a drive formatted to GPT. My question is; is it possible to convert the partition that I would like to install windows on without affecting my Linux partiton?

I have a Dell Inspiron 15R N5510 with Windows 7 Home Premium x64. I want to format the laptop, because well ..... the drivers failed. I asked Tom's Hardware Forum about the problem, and they said the only way to fix it is to format the whole drive, or uninstall and re-install the drivers. I want to format the laptop instead because there's so much old unused files that are occupying too much space, and bloatwares, and stuff. But there's a problem, I lost the OS Disk for it. I have all the information on the Microsoft label (found beneath the laptop) written on a piece of paper, but I don't know what to do with it. Can I just download the official Win7 HomePremium x64 .ISO File and then use the Product Key included in the Microsoft label, or I have to buy another OS? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I recently built my new computer intended for gaming and got it up and running. I installed my OS on a SSD, but due to it only having 120 GB, I decided to get an internal HDD to use for storing files and programs. To do this I followed Linus's video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMo8krAJd5Q When I formatted the HDD in the disk management, I got an error message and its format is now RAW. It now it appears in "This Computer" with the drive letter I gave it but I obviously cannot use or access it. I tried formatting it again a few times and I normally got an error message or my computer crashes. So is there a way to fix this? Or do I need to get a new drive? My OS is windows 8.1 if that helps.
