OK... SO... here is a little info, but I just need to know if I understand this completely. I am building my first rig. I've been a console gamer and Mac user, UNTIL NOW! I am having the hardest time deciding on a GPU. I am a big gamer, so that will be a priority, but I work as a video and photo editor, so that will ALSO be a big priority. I can't afford 2 cards, and I want a gaming card that does both instead of a Quadro or editing card. I can only spend about $1000-$2000. Here is how I would break down my estimated use, according to time and importance: -40% Gaming -30% Photo Editing -20% Video Editing -10% Other NOW... do I understand this correctly? FOR GAMING: AMD or NVIDIA, it doesn't matter. It really just depend on what kind of fanboy you are. AMD is a better value, price to performance, but runs hotter and louder (I don't plan on using triple monitors), while NVIDIA will usually win high end performance, and runs quieter and cooler for a higher price tag. I am more of an AMD fanboy so I'm leaning toward an R9 290, but G-SYNC looks cool, so maybe a GTX 780. Either way, not too hard to decide in this realm. FOR LIGHTROOM: It's to my understanding that Lightroom and most photo editing software really only leverages CPU not GPU, sooooo doesn't matter. (right?) FOR PHOTOSHOP: For photoshop, I think it supports OPEN GL, which is built into most, if not all GPUs, so either way, I'll be ok. I think? RIGHT? (I currently run an old version, but will probably need to get a newer version soon. Photoshop not as critical as Lightroom for me, so I don't mind running an outdated version.) FOR VIDEO EDITING: Here is where it gets tricky, and I get confused and anxious. Cuda vs OpenCL really only matters for Video Editing. So up until just recently, it's always been better to go with NVIDIA because the programs leverage CUDA to render like 6x's faster. NOW Adobe CS6 has the new mercury engine which supports OPENCL which is on all AMD cards and only the NVIDIA QUADRO cards, so if I plan on running CS6 then AMD will be faster than NVIDIA, but if i'm going to use anything else, then CUDA is king. Is that right? Also... Is OPENCL or CUDA the safer more future-proof/compatible option. Will OPENCL be the supported option from here on out and CUDA is now obsolete, or is CUDA still more widely accepted for editing and still works good for gaming, so I should choose NVIDIA. Is there any GTX card that supports OpenCL? (I am looking mostly at the GTX780) Do they have any support for CUDA in the new CS6 or is it ONLY OPENCL, so a GTX 780 will go to complete waste if I use CS6? ... and if I don't use CS6 then will my AMD card go to complete waste.. do absolutely nothing? I am a bit confused. I guess that's it. SO... Do I understand this all correctly? I'm currently leaning toward a 780 unless an R9 290 will work for editing too. Let me know what's up. Thanks LTT.

Hey how's it going? i'm going to be building a PC soon for a buddy but i just want second opinions on the build i'm thinking. he has a budget of $2500. He's big into music production and needs enough power to run Cubase 7, and Superior drummer 2 as well as whatever else, browsing, games, guitar pro etc... This is kind of what i was thinking so far... i was also wondering if you guys thought a 4770k is enough to handle everything he may throw at it. Case: Corsair C70 Motherboard: Asus Z87 Sabertooth CPU: 4770k Memory: 16gb of 1866 Video Card: GTX 770 Sound: Sound Blaster ZXR Storage: 256gb ssd, and a 2TB SSHD Power Supply: Corsair 860i Appreciate it guys, Thanks.

Rational: I basically want to build a relatively cheap gaming and video editing machine that is AMD based because even though Intel Core I7 series are the best at doing this. More and more programs are being multi-core optimized, which the 8 core fx can handle better then the I7 especially in streaming. Plus I'm somewhat on a budget. Components: CPU: AMD FX-8350 (Not really going to overclock it due to the motherboard selection) ~$200 Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 (I really want a MATX system because of its small form factor) ~$70 RAM: G.SKILL RipjawsX Series 2x8GB 1600MHZ (or whatever the cheapest ram stick there is that is relatively good quality) ~$130 GPU: MSI R9 280X Gaming Edition (or similar if there is a cheaper card) ~$330 PSU: XFX P1-850B-BEFX 850 Watt 80+ Gold (I already have this PSU in my server which in going to discontinue because no one is using it and it a really good quality PSU) ~$0 SSD/HHD: Samsung 840 Pro 128GB and 1TB Seagate 7200.12 (I also have these components in my old computer which I'm going to transfer to the new one in the final revision) ~$0 Case: Bitfenix Prodigy M Matx Case (Don't really care about the colour) ~$100 Total: ~$830 Objective: The goal of the build is to build a SFF computer that is pretty quiet and capable to doing serious gaming, video editing/rendering and 3D rendering like Blender (LOVE open source). Basically I want a computer that I can bring to a LAN party and say my computer is better than yours in terms of size to performance ratio. Extra things to mention: I could for a Geforece GTX 770 for the GPU, however with more and more programs going towards OpenCL like Adobe CC and Blender, I decided to go for the R9 280X which is not only a great value to performance but also somewhat future-proof. I also can't find a better motherboard then the one on the list on the Matx size of thing, seems like AMD is lacking in motherboard diversity then Intel. My PSU is about 6-7 months old now and at best it properly lost about 25 to 50 watts of power because it's been running on a server environment for about that amount of time, but it's enough to power my machine with a bit of overclocking head room. SSD and HHD isn't a real issue because first of all my SSD is made from Samsung and that my 1TB HDD is only about a year or two old, which isn't too bad. However I will upgrade to probably a WD Red 2TB in about two or three years. I kinda don't want to change my case because I love the looks of the Prodigy M with the handles and stuff, plus its pretty quiet. If you have any other suggestions on ways to improve this build, then by no means post it on this thread.

Editing rig for my friends granddad So my friends granddad asked my friend for some with choosing parts for an editing rig, and editing only. My friend asked help from me but neither of us have experience with editing only PCs so I have a wonderful forum to ask from. I'm aware of the very basics (atleast I think so), more RAM and cores right? But living in Finland and having a 1000 € budget has it's limits. I'm having most difficulty choosing the cpu, but here are my questions and suggestions CPU: Should he go with a xeon 1234 (or sth) for ~220 € or a FX 83x0 for ~150€ ? Or maybe with a 2600k/3770/4770 ~290 € because neither of those CPUs have on-board video so he would need a GPU, which is a excellent segway to the next question. GPU: I have no clue if you need a beefy GPU to go with editing PCs, or just with a slow gpu with this kind of a budget. And is choosing a CPU with a iGPU a cheaper solution? MOBO: something good enough, but no enthusiast chipsets since no overclocking? RAM: 12 or 16 gb depending on the price difference. Am I right? SSD: Might have to skimp here HDD: cheapest 2 tb? PSU: NO need for high wattage PSUs here, so 450w enough Being a fellow enthusiast he should have some cases lying around, if not you can get those for cheap He has no need for monitor(s) or peripherals He needs windows and some editing software so suggestions are welcome. Remember guys the budget is 1000 €, but I have no details on how much he can spend more if at all, and the rig is for editing only!

Hey All, I Wanted to know how many Bits per Channel does the GTX780 output through it's display port, because I looked up on the nVidia website for the 780 and I couldn't find it..? Thanks All.

Hey Guys, I am looking for a computer right now that I would like to build that will do couple of things. First, I am not a gamer so that isn't a problem for me so I wanted a pretty good (under $1500) desktop that will make HD video editing faster and more usable for me. I want computer that will last me for a long time because I don't want to buy these parts again and build it every year, no that is just a waste of time and money. So I wanted to get a recommendation from you guys on what CPU, GPU, and other stuff to consider when building this. I also don't want it to be very very expensive (as I said under $1500 or even less) because I want to get the most bang for my bucks. This is coming from a guy who has never had a desktop, I have always had a laptop and mine works fine right now and I love it but I need a desktop for my other needs. If you guys are wondering what editing program I use, I want to be able to run Sony Vegas Pro 12 very nicely and have it render it a pretty small amount of time as right now I am very much struggling with it. Thanks guys! P.S. I don't have very much knowledge about all of this so I am trying to gain more about building computers day by day and I hope you guys can help, thanks again!

Hi there, I'm new here at the forums and quite new to PC building. I would like to build a PC for various tasks, including multimedia editing, CAD and gaming, not at professional level though and gaming not really at Ultra 60+ fps (just one 1080p monitor). I also would like to try an AMD-based build. Location: Mexico, DF Budget: $15000 - $16000 MXN (something like $1150 - $1250 USD) Programs: Adobe apps (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, etc), Corel, AutoCAD Games: World of Warcraft, Battlefield, Crysis, Titanfall, Assassin's Creed, Mortal Kombat What I have considered is: CPU: AMD FX 8320 @ 3.5 GHz GPU: R9 280x 3GB GDDR5 (see below) Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz CORSAIR VENGEANCE (x2) Case: Corsair Carbide Series 300R CC-9011014-WW Power Supply: COOLER MASTER Extreme Power 2 625W Now, real questions are for the GPU, Mother Board and cooling. The GPU manufacturers I've seen is Gigabyte, Asus, Sapphire and XFX. Some say Asus is the best one, some other that Gigabyte is the way to go, and in general I've been told to stay away from Sapphire. Which one should I choose then? For the MoBo, I have read the CPU should be OC, but I'm not sure which MoBos can do this (or if it's even necesary). The suggested one is the ASUS AMD M5A99X EVO AM3+, but I'm not quite sure if it's ok, so any other recomendations are welcome. Also, will air cooling be enough? What cooling options would you recomend? Thanks for your attention.

I recently got adobe cc and installed premiere pro cc 2014 on my desktop. My system just feels really sluggish. When I go to export it takes about 4 minutes to render on my cpu and 30+ minutes to do so on my gpu. I think there is a problem as all the benchmarks I see show gpu being much faster. I have reinstalled windows 7 on my system running the newest beta drivers. running newest premiere pro version My system specs are amd althon ii X4 B55 amd radeon 7850 2gb 8gb system ram msi 890gxm-g65 120gb sandisk ssd Tell me any thing that could help. Thanks guys.

Hi, I'm planning on building a new workstation PC mainly for video editing. My budget is around the 1000 dollar mark (not much I know). I will be using Adobe applications and I'm a fan of CUDA accelerated rendering so I'd prefer to get a Nvidia GPU. I'm hoping to overclock this rig so keep that in mind. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Open to all ideas and builds, as im looking at getting on to buying parts/complete builds by the end of this week as I need it ASAP Budget & Location My max budget would be $1500 AUD. Living in Queensland Australia 2. Aim Gaming and editing (as in the title) Editing: Will be doing some video editing in premier pro for uni from time to time, and maybe avid seeing as we are using that also. But this will be maybe twice a week thing. Gaming: Most common games people are playing such as LoL. DOTA2, BF4, WoW, and maybe get into some DayZ and such. 3. Monitors I'm hoping to have at least 2 monitors for a while at first, but would like to move to 3 further down the track when the student budget allows it. Getting monitors from a friend but no idea what resolution they are 4. Peripherals Got a mouse and keyboard that will surfise for now so thats okay. Microsoft Windows 7 or 8.1 pro 64bit would be preferable. 5. Why are you upgrading? I have a crappy 5/yo laptop that is flat out web browsing, so its a much needed upgrade/new life/ what ever you like to call it haha Thank you in advance!!

Hi Guys, So, We initially bought a MAC Mini because we were recommended it would suit our editing needs. This is a lie. Anyways, I finally managed to get this sold and now we have a £500 Budget (I can probably push it to £550) to Purchase/Build a suitable machine to edit videos and audio with. We reside in the UK, Don't need monitors of any peripherals or an OS. Now I know this isn't a huge budget but most of the dosh went on lighting, camera and audio equipment. Anyways, I would appreciated it if anyone could help us out with this!

Hi everybody! I'm new to this forum, so I hope i picked the right area for this topic. I'm currently planning the build of a video editing pc for a friend (who will use it professionally) and I'm not exactly sure about which CPU to get. The options I had in mind where i7 4790K 4x 4.00GHz 8MB with a z97 motherboard, or i7 4930K 6x 3.40GHz 12MB with a x79 motherboard. I think the second choice is obviously better, not only because of the CPU, but also with its quadchannel RAM support etc. But my freind recently quit his job and is now self-employed in his own small business, so pricing is an issue. with the boards I choose the difference is about 355€ (US$ 480, CA$ 515) at a full build price of about 1800€ (US$ 2434, CA$ 2614) including the more expensive option. So switching to the quadcore would bring significant savings. Now I wanted to ask you: is the difference in performance of those options worth that amount of money? And - of course - why? Thanks in advance!

Hey mates, so I was wondering if there are jobs/tasks on the internet from which you can get a bit money (not like getting money/hour, but rather money/fullfilled task). I know there are a lot of ads how to get 200$ in 2h, but as everybody knows thats bullshit. I also don't mean setting up a webside or a youtube channel etc. To earn money with. Maybe coding, editing/redering videos etc. Are there any sides where you would be able to do sth like this?

I start college in about a week, I know I left it a tad late. I'm doing a course in Media production and I need a laptop to edit on, I will mostly be using Adobe Premier. My price range is £750 - £800, I'm not too worried about weight, and i would need a decent battery life. Preferable Nvidia and Intel, at least 8gb of ram and 1080p IPS if possible. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated, I'm in the UK by the way. Thanks

Video editing,Gaming and streaming computer upgrade
Colton Zolton77 posted a topic in Graphics Cards
So I finally got some summer money and want to upgrade my current system. Specs: Intel i5 2310@2.9 GHz(this was also my first build and I didn't realize how bad this was, also I'v been having cpu failure because of heat,)* GTX 550 ti 8 GB of Corsair Vengeance Memory 750w Corsair PSU 128 GB Samsung SSD 1TB WD Black HDD Asus P8Z68-V LX mother board I want to do everything that I say in the title, but idk wither I need to upgrade a cpu or upgrade the whole thing to do what I want. I could go without streaming all together and just game and edit. Also I only have about 600$(about 358£)price point, but if I have to I will go to 700$(about 418£). Also if Im thinking of somthing that not in my price range just say. Parts suggestions would be cool, but i was thinking for a gpu a 750 ti(the asus model), and i5 4670k with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO and a new mother board that fits Haswell socket. *I dont know if its working to hard or if I just need a new cpu cooler. -
I'm planning to build a new workstation with upgradability in mind and I want to ask for advice about how much money i should spend into making it and what part should i put more money into and what part i can not think about as much It will be used mainly for film and picture editing, maybe 3d modelling and animation if I end up having time to do it, mild server work I would love if someone could also give me some suggestions about what parts i should get I usually work on Final Cut, Logic so Hackintosh compatible parts are crucial ( Intel Xeon, nVidia graphics would be best) Thanks, if theres any further question, please do ask and ill try my best to give more info
