Anyone use a cold shoe top handle on a full frame or heavier DSLR long term? I've been considering one for some time as opposed to getting a cage (easier to pack). If so, was there any damage to the hot shoe (Loosened, flash stopped working, etc.)?

Short version - looking for a mirrorless alternative for a Nikon D5200 for about $450 maximum - to keep same good image quality. Not against "used" possibilities. More context. Have been using a Nikon D5200 for 2+ years. Generally for home photography (vacations, events, etc). Recently got a 70-300 lens which I've used on a vacation and really really liked how the longer range images turned out. Especially my wife appreciated how a few of her photos turned out even though she didn't realize the difference. I did sell the lens afterward, just because there was no autofocus on it, had to try and see The most common issue I've encountered is the weight and size of the camera. It feels like a tool of a trade, not a gadget. Has a bunch of functions and features - but I still end up using one of the programmed functions 99% of the time. Just doesn't seem to be a point to continue using such a big tool - to just take photos 7-8 times a year (if that many). So i caught myself not wanting to use it, just because it's too darn big to handle around. BUT i still want the quality, my S5 phone is obviously not up to task. Is there a camera out there that gives that quality - but isn't that bulky? Mirrorless of course - but there are so many now A budget of $450 perhaps? (Not averse to getting used stuff, cameras don't tend to break that much as far as I know...)

I have regularly been reaching the limits of my current camera with regards to connectivity as well as performance with low light and fast moving subject photography. I have also noticed severe bottlenecks with the resolution available when taking photos of landscapes. I am currently using the Canon T6 with a Sigma 17-50mm as my primary go-to lens. I currently am looking at two options, the 80D or the 77D both fill my requirements of an upgrade unit and I quite liked using both equally. Of course, the 80D is a more premium model and therefore has some better features, although the 77D is newer and has features in other areas. I am currently tossing up between the two cameras with regards to which to buy. Yes, I am aware of the rumoured 90D to be released in early 2018, and that's fine because it will most likely take me over half a year to allocate money to save up for the camera and if the 90D is affordable and has the features I would like then I can reconsider. If there are any other Canon crop sensor cameras that I didn't mention, my requirements are below: 1. Dual Pixel AF 2. 1080/60 Recording 3. Touchscreen 4. 24+ megapixels 5. Minimum native ISO of 12800 6. OVF min magnification of 0.7x 7. Integrated microphone port 8. Fully articulated screen 9. Ability to change ISO in half or 1/3 stops Thanks in advance.

Hi All, I want to start taking photography more seriously and am looking to buy a DSLR camera. What would you guys recommend getting as a entry level DSLR? I am looking to spend around £500 (U.K.) and will use it mainly for landscape and other general photography. I have heard that the Nikon D3400 is decent, but want to get the opinion of people who know what they are talking about. Thanks in advance!!

So B&H are having some really good sales right now on Dracast LED lights, I'm wondering if it is worth getting a 1000 LED light (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1219694-REG/dracast_drsp_1000b_led1000_series_bi_color_led.html) and a 500 LED light (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1258215-REG/dracast_drsp_500bn_led500_silver_bi_color_panel.htm) over another Rokinon cinema lens. I currently have a T3i with a 16mm T2.2 cine lens. I am saving up for a Sony Mirrorless camera, but saw these deals and realised that I have no proper lighting. Right now I have Ikea LED arm lights and 2 Neewer 160 LED lights, not great. Even if I buy these I will still have money for a Sony Mirrorless Camera (I'm looking at A6500 or its successor when it comes out). As for what I shoot, the occasional short film, mostly product B-roll. I really can't find any good info on if lights are worth it. All help is appreciated.

So we decided to purchase a camera during this holiday season and the budget would be below $1000. 2 years ago when I was looking to get a camera my friend, a professional photographer suggested me to go for a point and shoot rather than a DSLR as they have better aperture compared to the basic DSLRs. My usage would be for vacation, nature, family event and random casual use. Give me your expert opinions and the latest models to consider.

Hi guys, I do not have much knowledge on cameras or lenses. I usually loan cameras. However my accountant told me to buy one. I need advice on Lenses to purchase. I need an all purpose videography setup. I shoot small action adverts, cinematics, documentary vloggy things for private clients/Youtubers. Scenes are outside and inside. All over europe. One day I may be set up in a studio, tripod. The following in paris with a stable mount filming a workout video in the streets. Usually loan a 70D/A7S, they come with great lenses that are worth more than my budget, Soft bokeh, focus pulls etc... Which I still need to achieve. My budget is around £1000 don't going over a little. I have narrowed my search down to the Canon 750D. Amazon do kits. Kit 1: Canon 750D with 18-55mm IS STM and EF 50mm 1.8 STM Kit 2: Canon 750D with 18-135mm I was told the 18-135mm is great for photography but shit for videography(camera salesman) don't trust his opinion. I am open to all options. Excuse my ignorance. Thank you in advance. Links to the kits: Kit 1 Kit 2

I have recently gotten into streaming, I use OBS Studio and a Canon EOS 750D DSLR camera for a webcam, I have learned how to use the EOS utility software for a window preview that is then used for OBS as a webcam (Connected via USB), the problem is, you have to keep the preview tab open at all times (1920x1280) which gives me a big amount of lag spikes in any game, I have very capable hardware yet it is still an issue, (I ran the games without the preview on and I get a smooth gameplay.) Is there any way to use the camera as an actual webcam input?

So I'm looking to upgrade my camera that I use for streaming, because unfortunately my C910 that I bought for 4.00 at a Goodwill is starting to stutter and freeze, and eventually just stop working at first I thought it was with Streamlabs but I tried it other places and it just kind of slowly started dying out on me. I have a few prospect webcams in mind, like the Razer Kiyo, or the C920 but I had also considered getting like a DSLR camera and a tripod to use as my main streaming camera like I have seen a few people do, but my question first is what are the pros and cons of one VS the other, and the other question is what would you recommend that provides the most bang for the buck? I'd like to keep under 200.00 as I want something quality, perhaps that also works well with Streamlabs Chroma Key effect for use with a green screen.

Looking at buying my first DSLR, looking at the Pentax K-S2 (price in USD) and the Nikon D5500 (price in AUD), leaning towards the K-S2. Will mainly be doing street photography, landscape and maybe a bit of sports. I am new to photography and any thoughts would be appreciated Thanks, Spesh.

Hello, I bought a Canon EOS 600d two years ago. I´ve been practicing with the camera and the 18-55mm lense that came with it, but I know and I've notice that it's picture quality is not the greatest, so for a while, I've been planning to upgrade to a new lense. I don't really need a wide range of focal length, considering that I feel pretty confortable with my actual range in most occasions. One of the ideas I have in mind is purchasing a prime lense, that will improve notably the image quality, so I found a Sigma 30mm f1.4 (https://www.amazon.es/Sigma-30-DC-HSM-distancia/dp/B00BQXL8BU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1471521389&sr=8-1&keywords=sigma+art+30mm) that seems like a good option at a decent price. With this choice, my doubt is if I'm going to feel limited by the prime in terms of focal length, and if so, will I be able to adapt easily? I'll also take the opportunity to ask something else about the prime. I've heard from other people that using a prime forces you to think more about the picture frame, which is good for learning. Do you agree with that? Thank you. PD: The link for the top is to amazon.es where I was planning to buy the lense, but I'll link you to the american version too to give you a version in English. https://www.amazon.com/Sigma-30mm-Canon-APS-C-DSLRs/dp/B00BQXL8BU/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1471533139&sr=1-2&keywords=sigma+30mm+1.4

Hello, linustechtips forum I am a computer designer/builder more then I am a camera specialist. I have a pretty tight budget of $300. I'm looking for a camera that records 1080p and 60fps in good quality. Although I would like a removable lense a fixed lense wouldn't be the end of the world. This will be used for b-roll shots and will need to have good auto-focus. I know this is a lot to ask for with such a tight budget. I was looking previously at the EOS M2 but wasnt 100% sure.. I'm also not afraid to buy used or open box. Thanks in advance, Mikmatt

Hey guys/gals, I am in the market for a new camera for my mom. I bought the Canon Powershot SX200IS a while ago and it has performed well for family shots, it is very portable, and has a tripod mount, most of this is what I was looking for in a camera as I was trying to start out in photography. I got over the photography thing pretty quickly and went into more general tech. So, my camera fell into the hands of my mother who was still using her old film roll camera. This was a major jump for her as she is not incredibly technology literate. She has had issues adjusting to the new digital standard, but has done considerably well. It has been half a decade since we bought it, and I believe that it is time to upgrade her hardware. I am searching for a sub $500 digital camera, with an easy to use interface (this is key), a view finder if at all possible, and a tripod mount. I am not camera tech savvy, so if I am in search of a unicorn, please notify me, but if any camera buffs know of the creature I am in search of, you would be doing me and my family a great favor! Thank you!

Greetings. Canon's cameras appear to be pretty cheap in my country, and I've seen that a 700D with the 18-55mm kit lens and the 55-250mm zoom lens goes for about $500 brand new (and with a 2-year warranty). However, the camera did launch in the first quarter of 2013, which was a while ago. I was wondering if it's still worth spending that much on an old camera body, or whether I should wait till a new camera reaches the same price during a sale, such as Black Friday or Cyber Monday. Alternatively, the Nikon D5300 is a newer and arguably better camera that goes for about the same price, but it only comes with the noisy 18-55mm kit lens, and standard and wideangle prime lenses (the type I'm most likely to buy) seem to be far more expensive. I'm also more used to Canon's controls due to a few years of experience with one of their bridge cameras, so it'd have to be significantly better to win me over. I'd be grateful for your opinion on the matter. Regards, Aereldor.

I'm looking for an external mic for my Canon 70D. I don't really wish to spend more than between £100-£150. Can someone recommend something reliable with good audio for this price? Thanks

i recently upgraded from a gopro hero 3 to a Nikon d5200, All of my footage has this problem, I have no idea what the issue is. Whenever something is moving in frame it creates this weird liney effect and ruins the footage. I have included samole footage. Please help, I like to shoot video but this is not helping me any.

Hey all, So I'm looking to upgrade from my 60D to something better. I am wanting to try out some YouTube content creation doing vlog-ish videos and comedy sketches. I would like to say I'd go with the 70D (flip out touch screen, autofocus during video vs none on my 60D), but the 6D has really caught my attention with it's stunningly superior low light performance. But is it worth the extra $500-ish for the full frame? Right now, I think so, but maybe y'all can change my mind! Either camera I get, I plan on putting magic lantern on them or at least cinestyle. I also do some photography on the side. I would like to stay within the Canon ecosystem as I find their products reliable and several people I know have high end lenses that I can borrow. If you know of a better price to performance kit option from another brand, I'd be open to hear it as well! I am a film and broadcast student and through self-teaching before school and during my studies, I have learned a lot about DSLR cameras, setttings, techniques and cinematography, so don't be afraid to throw super technical answers at me! Any thoughtful input is appreciated!

Hello there fellow camera geeks! I've done a little bit of looking into it myself, but I wanted to get some thoughts from other people on good cameras, digital or DSLR, that are very compact and portable, yet will still yield the same quality as my DSLR. I'm not restricting myself to a certain brand, but I will say that I am primarily a Nikon user. Last but not least, I leave a list of required features. If there is no such camera under the restrictions and features that I want, I am willing to look to the next best thing to it. So, without further ado, my list of required features: Pixel count of at least 10 Megapixels At least a range of ISO 100-3200 At least 11 auto-focus points Must have a viewfinder Current Image resolution (1920x1080 or higher) Current file output (JPEG, RAW, etc.) Current Storage medium (SD, SDHC, etc.) Thank you to anyone who goes through the effort of helping me with this. It means a lot to me <3

Hello! Is it possible to use a DSLR as a webcam using some (free) software ? That would be great because I could read the image with openCV then. (and of course because of the much better picture quality and control than my webcam can offer)

It's been quite a while since I took my photography class back in High School, but I've recently enjoyed going out and taking pictures again. I'm in the market for an entry level or beginner camera to use. My budget is under $450 usd and I don't mind buying secondhand product. So far I have only really looked at 2 cameras. The Sony RX100 i and the Canon EOS Rebel T5. I've seen many great reviews on both. The Sony offers more mobility, whereas the canon will give me a chance to use different lenses and filters. I mainly plan to use the camera for simple shots and videos of any travels I take (nothing too crazy). I plan on studying abroad next fall and want to make sure I can document my time with decent photos. Anyone have any recommendations? If so please leave me some feedback and suggestions.

So I have my Canon 750d/Rebel T6i connected to a Elgato Gamecapture HD60 pro. Now when I record I can remove all the live view info except the little white rectangle following my face. The Af tracker. Any way I can use auto focus and stream with no extra stuff on screen? Or am I restricted to manual focus?

Hello everyone, Me and my family are in need of a new camera, this camera will be used basically anywhere we go (different countries, mountain hiking, beaches, parks, new years eve ect). My family has a really old panasonic video camera which is starting to break. We have an iphone and ipad however I keep on telling my parents that we need a proper camera to take good quality pictures, and so I am on a hunt to find one. I want to be able to take quality photos as well as shoot video at 60fps which I know this camera can. Autofocus and all of that. So right now I was looking at a camera, the Nikon D3300 DSLR Camera in Currys (United Kingdom) for about £300. However what I am really confused about is that there are two cameras which are the same but different prices. One is £299.99 and the other one is £319.99. I do not know what are the differences, so it would be appreciated if you could tell me what they are and which one is better to go for. £299.99 Camera: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cameras-and-camcorders/digital-cameras/dslr-and-compact-system-cameras/nikon-d3300-dslr-camera-with-18-55-mm-f-3-5-5-6-zoom-lens-black-10135135-pdt.html £319.99 Camera: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cameras-and-camcorders/digital-cameras/dslr-and-compact-system-cameras/nikon-d3300-dslr-camera-with-18-55-mm-f-3-5-5-6-g-zoom-lens-21942035-pdt.html Thanks,

Hi I am a noob to the audio microphone world. Sorry. I am currently doing a budget film project. I am currently using a camcorder but soon I will be getting a DSLR Camera for recording. Which microphone do you recommend? I am really confused, Shotgun, Condenser, ...? I am mainly going to use it outside and inside to film nature and some dialogue of actual talking. My mic budget is 100-170$. Please help and information about the microphone would be appreciated. Also please teach me the basics. Thanks
