I have the WD My Passport 1TB External Hard Drive. When I connect the hard disk My Computer displays it as Local Disk (G: ). The green progress bar in the address bar keeps on progressing extremely slowly and the hard disk doesn't load. It also makes the computer unresponsive. Disk Manager gets stuck at Connecting to Virtual Disk Service and doesn't load. Crystal Disk Info wouldn't load till I disconnect the hard disk. The hard disk is detected in Device Manager and Devices and Printers. I tried uninstalling the drivers and reconnected the hard disk (on which the drivers re-installed) but that didn't solve the problem. Western Digital Drive Utilities doesn't detect the hard disk when its plugged in. When I connect the hard disk the LED indicator keeps on blinking at the pace it usually blinks when writing files to it, so maybe its trying to load? Now the only way to disconnect it without making the PC unresponsive is by unplugging the cable from the PC. I tried to plug it on another PC without internet access and the same thing happened. There are at least 20GB of files I need to copy from it, if not more. I need a way to access the hard disk. Considering that plugging in the hard disk makes storage softwares unresponsive, I wonder whether I will be able to use a recovery software (I'll try and see if Recuva works). Could this possibly be a hardware issue? I don't have other compatible cables or enclosures lying around to test the hard disk with. I would really appreciate a solution. Please let me know if there is anything I left out which might help you come up with a solution. Hi, I couldn't find solution to my problem anywhere. When I turn on Windows, sometimes, as soon as loading screen shows up, I can hear my secondary HDD clicking etc. and it doesn't show up, other times it works for a minute or two and then click, it's dead. It started about a week after I installed Windows to my new SSD. Specs: It's standard Asus G73SW laptop with an SSD and HDD. Windows 7 64bit Ubuntu 16 To check hardware, I have switched disks in bays, took different one and it's still the same. It works in Linux, maybe clicked once while reading a lot of data. Disks were also checked in another pc, no sound or any other problem there. On software side, first I disabled every service with msconfig, and it worked, so I started to turn them on one by one. That way I came to conclusion it's caused by Nvidia streaming services, but soon everything started again, and turning every service off didn't help. I reinstalled Windows and on fresh install it worked for a while, then the same happened, reinstalled again and now it's failing from the very beginning.

I've only played 10 or so minutes of Star Marine having just finished downloading the game, but there are a few things I noticed. 1. The game seems to constantly write to my HDD at about 5 to 15 MB/s, or at least that's what task manager is showing. Is this normal? 2. I've got it on low graphics settings already, but it chugs a little bit because my CPU is getting up to almost 100% usage (i5-4460). It's perfectly fine and smooth most of the time, but occasionally blips and freezes. Is there any way I can help this a bit? 3. The motion blur. I hate any and all motion blur. Can I disable it in any way?

I got 4 drives in my system, 2 ssds one of which being the boot drive and 2 hard drives (and a dvd drive) all connected via sata but when i first installed the drives i didn´t really paid attention to which port which drive is plugged into. I assume that the assigned numbers represent the sata port but does it matter in which port a drive is plugged in aside from the order in which they are listed in the task manager?

It might be a dumb question but I am not sure what is causing the issue so I am going to post all my observations here and hopefully you guys can help me narrow down problem. My laptop's specs: GTX 1050Ti, Intel i5-8300H, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD+1TB SSHD (Asus ROG Strix GL503GE) I used to be able to play Cities: Skylines without any lags and with a decent FPS (around 45-60) but of late, since a few of the most recent Windows 10 updates, my game takes ages to load. Earlier, my saved game used to take a little under 4-5 minutes to load but now it takes substantially longer. Once it took over 13 minutes to load. And even after loading, the game doesn't run smoothly and ever time I pan to a new part of the map, it take a lot of time to render it. During all of this, I noticed that my disk usage light stay on and this happens every time I pan to a new location on the map. After noticing this, I added a mod that shows details while loading assets of the game initially. On my Macbook Pro (2018), about 200 assets get loaded per second while on my Asus, the rate is about 8 assets per second. So, I reinstalled the game on the SSD (it was earlier installed on the SSHD) and it didn't improve the loading times by that much. Now, the asset loading rate was about 15 assets per second. I also noticed that the RAM usage reaches the limit (goes upto nearly 6GB and then drops back down) In order to be sure that it is a disk related issue and not graphics-related issue, I fired up some graphic intensive games and they worked fine. While testing it with GTA V, the game ran just like before, but after a while (an hour or so), the same lag started showing up when I visited densely populated or busy areas of the map. The same spike happened with the disk usage. TL; DR 1. Cities:Skylines lags. Load times are atrocious. Never had this issue earlier, cropped up in the last month or so. 2. Assets load very slow. On SSHD: 8/sec. On SSD: 15/sec 2.1 Assets load at a rate of 200/sec on my Macbook Pro 2.2 Disk usage goes to max 2.3 RAM limit also hits 3. No such problems while playing games like Oxygen Not Included, Mini Metro (duh), 60 Seconds, GTA V 3.1 In GTA V, similar lag appears when at a densely populated area of a map. Disk usage hits max Is it a RAM related issue? If so, I have actually ordered another stick of 8GB RAM and will be installing it soon Is it a disk related issue? If so, why did it crop up all of a sudden? And how do I fix it?

Here is the scenario: I'm an intern at a big software company and my job now is to wipe hard-drives they nolonger use. There are around 2000 drives I need to wipe, 100GB to 1000GB in size, and corporate says they need to be reusable afterwards, so smashing them isn't an option. PC they gave me is a Dell Optiplex 980 i5 650, 8gb ram, 4 sata-slots. I can wipe 4 drives at a time and it takes me (the computer) 6 hours. Id like to squeeze this down to 4 hours or less, because of the 8-hour day. My question is, Does CPU and RAM or other factors like that affect the time it takes to wipe a drive, and if yes, how do I prove this to my boss? Or should I just find some setup with more sata connections? External devices like HDD-docks seem to wipe 2-5 times slower.

Hello- I am wondering what it would take to re-purpose an old disk shelf to use as storage for Freenas. I'd like to use 4TB SAS drives, as they are readily available on Ebay along with the disk shelves and provide a really solid value for the money. I'm wondering how these disk shelves work, though. Questions I have include: -How are they connected? -What is actually inside them? -How loud are they (and could they potentially have fans replaced etc to make them more suitable for home use) -Do they have disk controllers built in that could be flashed into IT mode/ HBA? -Could it potentially be added to my existing server (Freenas on an i5-4440) I know I have skipped some details- I'm just trying to figure out if this is possible, I can provide additional details as needed. Thanks!

so a couple of days ago ( Sunday March 24th ) i did a windows update on my alienware laptop before this update my laptop worked perfectly fine and i had no issues then after this update, my hard drive would not stop running at 100%, and no matter what i did, i could not for the life of me not make it run 100% so then i started doing all the trouble shooting in the world, until my laptop became so corrupted that i was forced to completely wipe the hard drives ( they are in raid 0 ) and do a fresh install of windows 10 home and after a fresh install of windows 10 home, i am STILL getting the same problem and even after this, i tried all the trouble shooting techniques from stop certain services, messing around with drivers, messing around with virtual memory and for the life of me, nothing is working at all and its really starting to frustrate me because this should not be a problem at all, as i said my laptop was working perfectly fine after this, so there is no excuse for this nonsense so if there is any tech wizards out there that can spread some magic over i would greatly appreciate it my specs: 18" alienware laptop i7 4700MQ 16 GB of ram ( don't know the speed or type, but its probably dd3 ) geforce 770m graphic card x2 in SLI x2 750 GB hard drives in raid 0 windows 10 home

I just reinstalled windows 7 onto my computer after my old drive failed. For more storage alongside my boot drive (4x 240gb kingston a400 ssds in raid 10), I installed a 500 gb crucial p1 nvme ssd in a m.2 to pcie card, and after I installed windows and went to disk management to format the drive it doesn't show up. I don't know know if there is any settings i have to change or any drivers I have to download. I've tried to research how to make it show up, but I haven't been able to find a solution, so I thought I'd ask here. Any help would be appreciated. Specs: Cpus: 2x Intel xeon e5 2660 motherboard: It doesn't have a model number that I can find, but it comes with the lenovo d30 4223 ram: 64 gb ecc 1333 ddr3 gpus: amd rx 580, nvidia gtx 470 storage: crucial p1 500gb sdd, 1tb wd black, 4x 240gb kingston a400 ssd in raid 10 psu: delta electronics 1100 watt 80+ gold

I want to delete a volume on a secondary hard drive that has no data on it, but the delete volume button is greyed out in the disk management tool, and when I run diskpart clean, it gives the following error: Virtual Disk Service error: Clean is not allowed on the disk containing the current boot, system, pagefile, crashdump or hibernation volume. I realised that this is because the disk is marked as both a pagefile disk and a crashdump disk, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to turn these off and be able to reset it properly.

Hi, I currently have 2 WD drives one of which I've already packed for an RMA, however I am not sure whether the second is worthy of an RMA as it hasn't yet failed. The first drive was a WD 2.5" 750GB HDD of which the smart test results are shown below (please excuse me not using crystal disk or something but I just used the smart of speedfan and noticed how bad shape the drive was in that I didn't even bother installing crystal disk.) Upon removing the first drive I was clever enough to backup all of my data to my removable HDD, due to my wonderful luck and fortune the disk seemed to go corrupt or something and the file format turned from NTFS to RAW for some reason. I then had the wonderful experience of recovering all my data (which I did, hats of to Recuva) I then downloaded crystal disk and it is showing a caution due to the current pending sector count. Is this a suitably large enough error to RMA this drive to Do I RMA my drives? Disk 1: WD 2.5" 750GB HDD - pic that isn't using crystal disk Disk 2: WD MyPassport 1TB external drive - Crystal disk pic Thanks, TheCommentator123

disk access times Does CPU does affect Disk access times?

Does CPU affect disk access times? I need deep explaination to prove im right to my dad -
Hi, I am currently going through and purging my files. In my disk management I am seeing all of these healthy smaller disks for 200-500 MB roughly. I can not delete the volumes or deactivate them. Also the 16.94 GB section doesn't let me do anything on it either. When I right click on it, all I get is the help option. Is there a way to get rid of all of those other smaller partitions and just expand the large section over the top of the other ones? When I try to expand the Data Drive section, it just lets me know there isnt enough space on the drive to do so. I appreciate any help thank you!

Hi, I'm getting an error while downloading media on Whatsapp that says, "Can't download because no internal storage is available. Please unmount it as a disk drive, and try again." I'm not sure what the problem is as I have a 16gb SD card as well as 5gb free on my internal storage. My phone is a Hisense U962

Hi there, I just bought a Samsung 970 Evo plus 500gb NVMe m.2 SSD for my pc. I wanted to replace this with my old SATA m.2 so I had to reinstall windows. While at it I also clean wiped all of my other disks. I have a Asus z170-pro gaming motherboard with only 1 m.2 slot. Now I know that when you have a SATA m.2 connected the SATA 1 port gets disabled, so in my old config i wasn't using either of the SATA express slots (slot 1 and 2) an it worked fine. Now that I connected my new NVMe m.2 I put my other disks in order in the SATA slots, also using 1 and 2. This is working fine because an NVMe m.2 goes through PCIE and not SATA. Now the problem I'm having is that when all disks are disconnected, except for the m.2 it shows up as disk 0 if I look in disk management. But when all my disks are connected it shows up as disk 3?? (see screenshot) (Disk 3 here is my 500 GB m.2, the disk 0 is my other Samsung 860 Evo 500 GB SATA SSD, here connected to slot 1) Is this a problem? Or is it working fine? I also had to manually set the other partitions for the other disks as I couldn't right-click and click 'New Simple Volume'. I would really appreciate the help! Maybe I have to change some BIOS settings? Or some cmd magic? I hope to see a response! Thanks, Iwan

I have recently bought a 8GB ram stick. I previously had 2x4GB ram sticks in slot 2 and 4 of my motherboard (same colour slots for dual channel). It started giving me errors, the red lights on the motherboard would light up for DRAM. then for VGA, and it eventually got fixed after fixing the ram better in slot 1 and running the memory setup, although I still cannot explain how I got it to work as I have done absolutely nothing other than keep resetting and choosing to go into the bios without any changes. Computer ran smooth, it recognised that I had 3 out of 4 slots occupied and 16 GB of ram. The next day, I run into a "disk read" error and then it changed to "Select proper boot device" . I have Windows 10 installed on my Kingston 256GB SSD, and it worked pretty well until now, the SSD is 6 months old at best (bought it in July). I have looked into BIOS and it is first priority in the booting list (set as "UEFI Hard Disk"). Right now, the only solution I can find is re-installing Windows, but I really want to know how my RAM can mess this whole thing up. As of now, ram setup is like this: My motherboard has 2 black slots(slots 2 and 4) and 2 white slots(slots 1 and 3) - the black slots are occupied by my 2x4 GB Hyperx Fury DDR4 2133MHz, and slot 1 is taken up by my Hyperx Savage DDR4 2133MHz. I have read that it is not necessary to use dual channel on a dual channel motherboard, but I haven't found any instance in which there were 3/4 slots used. EDIT: I should also had that I had bought the ram from a friend, so it had been in use before. He made sure to ask me if my other ram sticks were DDR4 at 2133MHz. Specs: Windows 10 motherboard: 150M Bazooka (has dual channel) Geforce GTX 1660 Intel Core i5-6402P ZM600-LE 2x4 GB Hyperx Fury ram cards DDR4 2133MHz 1x8GB Hyperx Savage DDR4 2133MHz Kingston 256GB SSD WD Blue 1 TB HDD

How to fix the error mentioned up there, but without loosing data. I have put all my files on a partition. And i cannot loose them. I have no other option then to ask, ive seen on the internet people set their bios on legacy only instead of uefi but that doesnt seem to do anything for me. Will send pics below.

My brand new internal hdd worked for about a day when I began to get errors about not enough disk space from steam when installing games, so I restarted my pc and the drive disappeared, when I opened up disk management it says that the drive only has 3.86gb of storage and when I try to initialize it, it says "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." I tried swapping out sata cables and using a different sata port but nothing has worked pls help.
