Trying to see which one of these cases will suit me better. I'm only air-cooling my components and want a clean look. Trying to keep temperatures as low as possible. I can deal with a bit of noise. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello everyone! I have posted about this topic once before and I've come up with another build. I am planning to build a gaming PC for circa 1600 USD(11 000 SEK) (including the OS). I live in Sweden and I will most likely be ordering my parts from this and this store. As I've said this will be a gaming PC, so I'll be playing any modern titles but mostly FPS games such as BF4 and Arma 3. This is what I've come up with so far, but I would love to hear any suggestions on what I can improve from you guys before I pull the trigger and buy the parts! CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K CPU cooler: Be-Quiet Shadow Rock Pro SR1 Hyper 212 evo Mobo: Gigabyte UD3H RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro blue 1600MHz (2x4GB) GPU: Asus 760 R9 280X Case: Fractal Design XL R2 PSU: Corsair RM750 Storage: 2x Seagate Barracuda 64MB (1 TB)(general storage in RAID 1) Samsung 840 evo 120GB (OS ) OS: Windows 8.1

Hi linustechtips I'm running out of storage and need more. My first thought is that I should get a NAS, an external HDD is not even close enough to meet the requirements I have. I'm going to try to make this post and my requirements as simple as possible. Homemade or complete? I've never done a NAS build before. I have build PCs before and I find it easy and fun. Aesthetics means a lot to me, since your battle station is out in the open and you have to look at it everyday. Therefore I might prefer a homemade NAS if the price difference between a homemade and complete NAS isn't to insane. What is the cheapest solution, homemade or complete? How much storage do I need? Most of the NASs I've seen are only with two slots, I'll need 4, at least. The, at least, 4 slots will be populated with 3tb WD Red HDDs (think the current highest capacity is 3tb). What do I need the NAS for besides storage? I'm an owner of a desktop Win7, MacBook Pro and an iPhone 5. So I want to be able to access the NAS from all 3 devices, mostly the Win7 and MBP. My MBP is generally for work/school and has a lost of personal stuff on it and therefore I want to be able to make backups of it to the NAS. I've tried this before, to make backup to an internal drive in my Win7 and I couldn't get it to work. So if the case is the same here I will get an external HDD for that. I want to be able to run torrents of the NAS. Possibly many at the same time. I will load the movies off of the NAS and play them from my PC. So the NAS wont be doing any decoding. In case a homemade NAS is the choice for me: What is the best NAS/server software? Like I said this is new to me. I know Apple has there server version of the OSX like Windows has as well. I will be open to both if they can meet my requirements. Back to aesthetics. My current desktop case is an ancient Antec Nine Hundred, which I will swap out with something like a Corsair 750D or similar. I like the brushed aluminium look it has. I've been thinking about to use the Fractal Design Array R2 Mini ITX NAS Case1 (I couldn't get the link with text instead of the url to work, so link will be in the bottom). I've chosen this case because it got the same brushed aluminium. In the future I want to make a HTPC as well and have kind of fallen in love with the Fractal Design Node 6052. That's pretty much all the info I could think of. Please let me know if there's anything else I should consider or I've missed. Can't wait to get some answers Anyway, peace! Im sorry to say that my R4 just isnt working out. Everything is just very crammed and nothing is getting very sufficient airflow. Also, Im looking to do push/pull with my h100i and there is not enough room, it already skims the motherboard with two fans on it. I just need something bigger, but high quality.

Check it out here. http://www.fractal-design.com/ Edit: Why is the Arc Mini R2 under the discontinued section?

My computer is placed in a 'room' connecting my living room to the kitchen. Could you guys please try and give some ideas on what I could move around or add on. I'm going to get a longer table for my triple monitor setup. Thanks guys

And this is what I came up with : Better quality if I upload it to imgur --> http://i.imgur.com/qBlZbIZ.png So ... If anyone one here is weird cool enough to even get this far then tell me: Anything not belong here? Anything belong here that I didn't remember? Hey guys, I've been lurking around the forums for a while now learning a lot about computer hardware, but I'm kind of stuck building my own rig so I'm hoping you guys can help me out. Every build I've come up with feels like it's over kill for my needs, and it's definitely always more expensive than what I want to pay. I'm a traditional artist, but I would like to try some digital art soon, and I would also like to play around with animations and 3D modelling to see what I can do. My main focus is my art business though and that's why I'm building this rig, plus when I go to school I need a PC that can run Photoshop and Illustrator lag free. I also want to try some YouTube stuff and so far I've only used Vegas which I know is amazing with a Radeon because of opencl, but I think Adobe is better with Nvidia so I'm stuck on what to pick there. I forgot to mention I would like to be able to play games on this rig, but I don't play big AAA titles and taxing games. I'm a Sims/Civilization/LoL/Minecraft kind of guy, so I don't really need anything fancy there. My needs are basically these - can run Photoshop & Illustrator - supports dual monitors via DisplayPort - doesn't sound like a vacuum... the quieter the better but I can live with a little noise. - has decent airflow in the case because it gets really hot where I live in summer, and ice cold in winter, both with lots of humidity. Yay Canada. - I need wireless, I can't connect directly My wants are these - can render videos and 3D stuff at a decent speed - has some future proof products that I can carry to another build - can play games at high detail with 60+ fps Other things you probably want to know - I don't plan to OC it - I picked out a few parts that I would like to keep, unless there's a better alternative - I'm going for best bang for my buck here but I prefer Intel cause of their lower TDP - I don't have a case preference, but I was interested in the NZXT H440. I've heard it doesn't have great airflow though - No fucks are given about colour coordination if there's no side window - If there is a side window then I prefer all black but if it drives cost up then nvm - I have a few years old LG external disc drive that I can use for the OS install if necessary - The sooner I can buy this the better - While gaming I plan to use one monitor for gaming and one for internet browsing/controlling media and such I hope this isn't too much, I didn't want to leave anything out. This is the first build I did, way too expensive. Less is good. 1. Budget & Location - $1600 CAD, Canada 2. Aim - See above. 3. Monitors - I bought 2 Dell IPS monitors, 1080p using DisplayPort. I won't be adding another monitor to this rig for at least a few years, and by then I'll probably have upgraded the mobo/CPU and whatever else gets outdated after 4 years. 4. Peripherals - I need a keyboard, mouse and Windows 8.1, and I already bought the monitors. 5. Why are you upgrading? - I currently only own a laptop, that should be enough right there. - If it's not this laptop is nice and all but it can't run render anything in a reasonable amount of time. I tried to render a 30 minute video in 1080p for YouTube and it took 4 hours. No thanks. For anyone who helps me here or has already offered tips and advice thanks a bunch, I really appreciate it.

Recently I have started a blog, (By recently I mean yesterday,) but I need a background so it isn't just white. Sadly I can't design for my life so I was wondering if anyone could make me one? It would basically be white like it is now, but in the bottom left corner it would have something made up of google's signature colors. (The red, yellow, green, and blue) I was thinking of some sort of design made of hexagons, but failed in mspaint. For reference my blog is about chrome (Browser, OS, and chromebooks) and my experiences with it. It is updated daily (Or it should be) and can be found here: Chromeboy Chronicles. Thank you for at least reading through this. -Chromeboy P.S. Comments and criticisms about the blog in general are also welcome.

Hello, I recently bought a Fractal Design ARC Mini R2. I'm thinking of putting LED fans and strips inside.... I'm too lazy to write it down, so I made some pics. My problem is, the side window is smoked. If I put green LEDs in there, will it look good? Also, the front filter is not really designed for it.... This question is aimed for Fractal ARC Mini R2 users, but all answers/comments are much more then welcome!

Right. So this may sound like a huge and menacing task, but it's something I've wanted to do for a while. Basically I want to create a game that is reminiscent of early 21'st century sci-fi, with elements from Firefly and the early Mass Effect games, and throwing a bit of Star Wars in for good measure (The original trilogy OBV). While I know what I'm doing when it comes to Unity, when Crytek made CryEngine available on steam I thought about that alternative, and came to a conclusion: While it isn't free, it is far superior to Unity and UE3 (UE4 might be good though) and overall it would be more enjoyable to develop for. While the choice of engine is still up in the air, I wanted to start gathering a small group of people to help. I have a huge amount of concept writing and ideas all ready to go, as well as a very small amount of concept art and a name. What I don't have is extensive skills when it comes to 3D design, animation and capture or Programming. While I may want some people later down the track to come on board with creative development, for now I need about 3 people. One person who knows game engines (UE3[so essentially UDK], Unity and or Cry Engine), one who knows Maya (Or any other 3D design software) and one who knows programming languages (I would assume C++ as CryEngine(The most likely engine right now) is basically self contained, with very little code tinkering required, as far as I understand. Correct me if I'm wrong) TL/DR I need a Coder who knows C++, A 3D designer competent with Maya and somebody who knows their way around Cry engine/UE3/Unity. (Just a stock image from the web, nothing fancy) Respond to the thread (Or PM me) if you know anyone who would be interested. (I'm based in Australia, but Skype makes everyone a lot closer)

Good day guys, can you suggest some software that is easy to use and learn for creating a GUI for desktop based application some where like the looks of blender 3D and adobe photshop CS6. I want those things like some sliding animation and can be used for flat design but its easy to use. I can understand some css and javascript but I can't find those feature in creating something like that for desktop application. can you suggest something that is easy to understand like css and javascript for creating a desktop application?

Hi, my names Luke i am new to the forums so if there is any tips you can give me then go ahead. Ok well getting into the point of this topic as you can probably guess i have a fractal design r4 i know that i really want water cooling i have heard the pros and cons of it and the pros and cons of custom loops but i just want a simple closed loop. I have a amd fx 8320 and just stock on there at the moment. So what coolers do you recommenced that will fit in this case and also where as well as the configuration for example dual rad at the top of the case with push pull and tell me if it will like fit in and clearance and stuff like that. Thanks to anyone that replies and helps me out just asking you guys out there that already have water cooling in the fractal design r4. Oh yeah and btw i have no side fan since i got a windowed version.

Hey! (This is my first post, so tell me if I do something wrong.) I just got my new Fractal Design Define r4 case & Fractal Design Integra r2 750w psu. I'm currently using MSI Z87-G43 GAMING motherboard. My problem is; Fractal Design says both in the manual and the webpage (http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/power-supplies/integra/integra-r2-750w) that the Fractal Design Integra r2 750w contains a Atx12v 8pin connector, but I can't find the right cable. Do I have to use my old PSU, which had this Atx 12v 8pin connector? Thanks.

Ok ... Well I made a post about altering the WAN Shows lower third a bit (http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/170487-any-pixel-peepers-graphic-design/#entry2265650) ... And I had too much fun I've been trying to find other things to redesign ... Maybe if I do something good enough LTT will actually use it Issue is ... I couldn't find anything to redesign  Soooooo this topic is basically a brainstorm Come on guys, some ideas ? (please) P.S. If any of you guys on this forum are interested in graphic design lets get in touch - IM me

So who watched the latest WAN Show ? Linus mentioned the possibility of creating some LTT themed fans ... And ... Weeeeeeeeeell I got boooooored ... Here are some designs Design 1: http://i.imgur.com/ZKXkAnc.jpg Design 2: http://i.imgur.com/3FXEQIY.jpg Design 3: http://i.imgur.com/SNIZPBn.jpg Side By Side Comparison: http://imgur.com/a/xvueD#3 All based on the NF-A14 + They were too high-res to upload them here Any suggestions? Maybe if this gets enough attention the LTT team will see it and take it into consideration

Hello everyone, After watching videos on the Fractal Design R5 case I fell in love with it. So thats the case done but not the entire system, which I need help with that. I need a system including the R5 to be able to do gaming and light video editing for under £800. I would prefer if the processor was from Intel but the graphics card I do not care which one it is but it must be at least 60 fps or more. Some of the games I will be playing will be: CS.GO, Minecraft, GMOD, TF2, Skyrim and Euro Truck sim 2. I will need a monitor as well but don't include it with the pc, same with peripherals. BUT THE OS YOU MUST ADD; WINDOWS 7.

Hi all! Was looking to seek some advice for building a new PC. I've been looking around a lot of sites and watching a lot of youtube videos with regards to PC builds and benchmarking. What's caught my eye recently are the ITX builds I've seen a lot of people build on youtube. I like the compact form factor and like the idea of not having a large PC tower taking up a lot of space (and the possible portability too). I'll be using the new PC for graphic design, photo editing, video editing and game devving too. Would it be recommended to go for a more traditional, larger build for power hungry tasks? Or would an ITX build have enough power to handle graphics intensive work? Your advice is greatly appreciated Many thanks, T

I'm in the process of designing a computer case but have run into a very frustrating roadblock. I can't figure out where to find the official expansion slot dimensions (specifically height and hole spacing) and position relative to the motherboard. I already have the atx v2.2 specs.pdf and i've referenced it throughout my motherboard design for the I/O hole and screw positions. I can upload screenshots or the actual CAD files (i'm using autodesk inventor so i can export it as whatever is needed). Once this is done I'm going to make a simple pdf diagram of the dimensions of everything so other peoples don't have to deal with this frustration anymore-unless there already is one. I'd like the height of low and high profile expansion cards please (for future projects, the hole spacing is the same I assume).
