Basically, I have been noticing that I am losing space on my SSD, and I am not sure what is doing the data creeping on me. The only thing I have on my SSD is my OS, programs I use, like Vegas Pro, Unreal Engine etc, sample libraries for music production, and plugins for the softwares I use. Unless Windows updates are getting bigger, I really don't know what is causing me to lose space on my main SSD drive. Is there a way to find out what's causing it and removing/deleting it?

Great idea for a video on taking back control of my data or securing my data. very much up LTT street. Okay I screwed up and my outlook account was hacked and while i got my money back i lost pretty much everything else. all my files including photos of my dead son. I lost not only my emails but also the email address's as well (thank god its not a work email, *shudder* my contacts and my calendar oh and my uni work(though i have no use for it now it still sucks) I managed to rescue some stuff as some of it was on different drives around my machines. anyway to the thing i need help on I have been bitten and now i want to control my data as best as possible. I want to house or at least have a downloaded copy of all my essentials. Here is a list of things I want to house on my home server i'm building with either an online copy or constant access to it. I prefer the idea that the main Information is housed on my server and there is a copy online which I can access anywhere. that way if something happens at home then i got a copy on something like google and a backup on my file storage. basicly i want 3 copies of all my information, Home, website and online backup. (eventually i intend to have a 4th copy in an offsite backup location like my parents house) Currently the list of important things I need help with are Email Access/storage: (also like the idea of emails coming dirrect to me instead of online service but I fear things like power cuts would make that less a good idea) Currently my domain is with godaddy and my hosting is with hostpapa and i can download a backup copy of my emails from there. I have my emails downloaded to thunderbird app. This gives me 2 copies and i can arrange to manualy download it for backup purposes. Is there a better solution? Contacts: Since I lost my contacts its been hard to function and i'm currently using the contacts CardDav that part of my hostpapa email. It currently downloads to thunderbird but I cant find a program thats free on android for my phone so I need a better solution. again i want to access my contacts on my pc, phone and have my normal backups. Calendar: well loosing my calendar data actually cost me money I missed out on so many appointments and software renewals that is not a joke. I'm currently using my wife's callendar but my email hostpapa also has CalDav which is supposed to be a calendar server i can access anywhere, except i only got it working on thunderbird. Tasks: I don't use tasks as much as I want simply because i have had so many problems accessing them on different devices quickly. as you may have noticed i user thunderbird alot and i love the app on my pc and steam deck(main portable device, I use the desktop mode primarily and it works great) however they are still working on a mobile app and have joined with another app developer but its going to be time before its all sorted. so please help me secure my data and files. I currently use a file storage site called Currys Cloud Backup. I think they use livedrive as there software (not sure) anyway i like the cost and the speed is okay, just wish it had a linux program. so to reiterate I need software that works on android, windows/linus(mac too for anyone else) a website backup like google/outlook (though out of principle i refuse to let micrososft have any more data of mine cause of the way they screwed me over) and server software for the server i'm building. (I havent decided what OS I'm going to use on the server yet, hell I'm not even sure if its going to be a raspberri pi or an old pc yet.) anyway any and all help would be greatly appreciated Kuzon

After reading few tech blogs I've come to understand that MX500 is slightly better than BX500 but in any of those site's the difference of expected life or erase cycle of these drive was not mentioned it was just stated that MX500 has more life expectancy than BX500, but how much more?, does the price difference of these two drives justifies the expected life difference of these drives?

Summary Amazon has an option to download all your order history to a convenient spreadsheet. (Riley sub-voice - to let you quickly see how much money you've given the Rocket man). In yet another reminder that your data isn't yours Amazon is killing this feature in a week. Quotes My thoughts In a recent WAN Show Linus was saying how companies should be forced to provide 'call me back' if the queue is longer then a bit. I strongly feel that it should be a similar requirement for companies to provide a way for you to download all your transactions from them AND that emails should be required to neatly show a freaking normal receipt. Have you seen what a receipt from Amazon looks like lately? It basically shows order total and ETA. No item information. Will I'm sure this more 'want to clear legacy system' then 'were trying to hide how much you really spend' - it just really reeks of corporate FU. Not really sure if this is the right section for this post, but just wanted your views on Data Analytics Platforms. I wanna know what you guys think about analyzing, cleaning, and graphing data through pure code compared to other DIY tools that enable you to perform these functions without code. I'm currently trying out Tesser Insights' platform for data storing and cleaning functionalities and it's pretty convenient. Great interface and design too.

Hey everyone I need some help, just the other day my sister in law's SD card in her phone crapped out and she has lost all of her pictures from the last five months. She's a very sentimental person and it would mean a lot to her if we could somehow recover the pictures. When it gets plugged into a computer it asks to be formatted, we haven't formatted the card to make sure we don't permanently delete her photos. But I need recommendations on softwares to use to try and recover her data. Much thanks -Jayce

So I have to reinstall Windows, but I don't wanna lose any of my video games. I moved all my games over to other drives. I have a small case, the Lazer3D LZ7. The second M.2 is underneath the mobo, it's got 2tb of games on it, and it SUCKS to remove, I have to disassemble the whole PC. I also have an SSD that I can unplug easy. I went to the 'Reset your PC' option, because it said it'll let me keep data, BUT it said the process would uninstall every single game I have (5tb of games, and I have slow internet) even though none of those games are on the C drive. My question is, how do I reinstall Windows onto the C drive, without effecting the other M.2? I remember if I install from a disc, it let's you partition the drive, and then do a fresh install, but I want to make sure that way will keep the other M.2 intact. I don't want to do it, then find out my 2tb of steam games were deleted, that would take months for me to redownload. I can easily unplug the SSD so it won't be effected by the reinstall, but removing the other M.2 would require unbuilding and rebuilding the entire PC, TWICE and I really don't want to have to do that. What's the best way to reinstall Windows and keep my data, without having to disassemble the entire PC twice?

Is it possible to recover overwritten data from an SD card? If not, so how the heck can Ive do so, I have a 32GB micro SD card and and I don't know how its get corrupted then I downloaded easeUS recovery software, and buy technician edition and start scanning, after scan is done, its showing about 132 gb of recoverable data from a 32 gb sd card, first i got confused, then i seen that it has also scanned my old files, after that I've recovered my all present files which got corrupted and some past files also... My question is,how was i able to recover deleted+overwritten (who knows how many times) data?as i read in many forumes that you can not recover overwritten data... I am sure that its overwritten because before corruption,my micro sd card has only approx 700 mb space left, and I've recovered more than 3.7 gb of delete data, which is deleted approx 6 to 8 months ago,how the heck it recovered? If possible please make a YouTube video on how recovery of data is done,is it diff to recover data in hdd vs ssd or flash storage devices??? Down there are the pics of situation, and a pic of recoverable movies, that I've deleted+overwritten ago....

Hello, so I had set up a storage pool on windows 10 using 3 2TB drives. It has been a year later, and my main C drive had failed. I proceeded to get a new SSD, and install windows 10. Installation process went smoothly, until I went to my storage devices. I can see the local disk F, and also the local disk C. But when I try to open F it asked me to format the disk. Now that is not an option as this disk was my back up. So then I go to storage spaces. In storage spaces I see the vault pool that I had set up with the capacities of 482 GB of 5.45 TB pool capacity. I can even see the physical drives and the storage space, you can see 8.67% used on each drive physically and there is an OK green checkmark next to all the drives. However I cannot access the information on these drives. has anyone else experienced this as well?

Hi guys. I've noticed that some apps on my phone are able to perform significantly better using my mobile data. When turning on my WiFi, my apps start to take it's time loading rendering the screen. What could cause this issue?

Fellow Techies, I hope all are doing well. We are looking at changing data speeds with Spectrum (known more as Time Warner Cable). They have a service with 30.4Mpbs. We are a family of two, a student (myself) and my mother. What do yall think about it? I game and we stream on netflix and on demand with our direct tv (generally not at the same time). I do homework and download different things as well. I thank yall very much for your time.

Hey everyone, My friend's usb seems to have died on her (windows won't recognize it and it won't light up). Is there any possible ways to recover that data? Any advice would be helpful! Thanks in Advance.

I'm just wondering how much you guys think 120gb over will cost on a 40gb plan, not that I totally did this or anything but ya know, theoretically, if I fucked up that badly how much would it approximately be?

The goals I'm trying to achieve. Lower data usage as much as possible. They only apps i want to have access to the internet are programs i need to play games and the game themselves. My first idea was to block all applications communication by creating a rule in the firewall and then just white listing all the games i want to plan. Turns out it is not that simple. Anyone have in ideas on complicating this? Filler I work/live on a Campground and have access to unlimited internet through satellite. so i can stream movies, download games, updates, etc. (Satellite Ping is to high) My 4g data plan is good enough to play games online but windows 10 sucks a lot of data and must of that is background programs i don't need run. Update: I set my computer up to metered. Thanks TheNuzziNuzz I also downloaded and am using Netlimiter. Thanks anonymousGuy. (Netlimiter was everything i was looking for. Very easy to use) and Thanks Samcool55 and M.A.P.

How to recover my contacts from my broken Galaxy Nexus
Maximus4712 posted a topic in Troubleshooting
I dropped my phone and the screen stopped working, I'm hoping I'll be able to transfer my contacts from my old galaxy Nexus phone to my new phone. Internally my Nexus works fine (it's recognised as a device when I plug it into my PC) but all I can find online is how to recover my data if I have USB debugging enable. My nexus doesn't have a password if that helps. I hope someone knows a solution. -
In a not so remote past, we thought they were seeing our e-mails. Then, they could know our searches on the net. Now, "they are the cloud", they host our personal and family photos, our favorite channels selections, our chat conversations, and our text documents. This so-called innocent cloud can make our lives easier by saving our passwords and taking care of our calendar. Today, they are also ISPs, been able to trace just anything we do online. Even if you're not their customer, you may use their browser, which is awesome, but I can't say the same about its privacy. They sell machines we put in our homes to ask anything, while the device hears every word we say. They can check our phone's GPS. They have the largest map and satellite image service, seen every single place on the globe, many times with a camera passing by car in front of our homes. They are mobile networks, so it's possible to hear our conversations. They run the keyboard of our phones to know what we type. They sell routers to make home wireless easier and to collect data. They own data centers that host a big number of information from big companies. They have autonomous cars. They commercialize domains and provide reCAPTCHA. They translate anything to anything and, most important, they know what we do translate. We can pay things with their services... They.............

A few weeks ago I had a gotten a 4TB drive (HGST HDN724040ALE640), and started copying files off of my "Entertainment" drive - a drive that was working fine, had no SMART errors, and was less than 18 months old. At first I used Windows 8.1's move via cut + paste, but after I saw how slow it was I force canceled it and used Teracopy. Teracopy seemed to go faster, but my computer started to act... Strange during the copy, although it ended up "finishing" (A BUNCH of files weren't copied over) with no errors. Since my computer was acting a bit odd, I decided to restart - while logging out, I hear an error noise. An error noise that I couldn't read and didn't show up in the event viewer. While restarting, it took forever, so I just left it do its thing - showing the Windows loading screen for over an hour. My drive showed up properly in the BIOS, but I couldn't get into Windows or Windows boot disc with that drive plugged in. So eventually I got into a Linux distro and tried running ntfsfix, then running Windows' chkdsk from the recovery console which I somehow got working once. Still didn't work, so right now I'm using dd-rescue to copy everything off of it to a new drive since Clonezilla refuses to work on it, even though dd-rescue and testdisk do (With some a few minute hangs every now and then). Needless to say, all of this has left me paranoid since the drive I'm worried about now is over 5 years old and has a "Spin-up Time" SMART error. So, on to my question: What's the safest way to copy all of the files off of my 1tB drive with the SMART error, over to my HGST 4tB? The HGST already has one partition, and about a terabyte of stuff on it that I'd really rather not redownload. And given that my problem occurred shortly after using Teracopy and Windows 8.1's move, I'd rather not use them again. May not be a logical reaction since it was probably just a coincidence, but still. On a related note, is there anything faster than dd-rescue for copying files off of a drive such as mine? Or a Clonezilla argument that I missed to make it skip problem sectors? Hell, even just getting a list of all my files and directories put into a text file would help me a lot since most of my stuff can be gotten again - with a lot of work, effort, and time, but it's possible for most of it. Also I just wanted to say, Testdisk is absolutely amazing. I can't even mount the drive in Linux, but Testdisk handled it no problems at all beyond taking a minute to read it. I copied some stuff that I knew I needed using its file browser. It was slow as hell, but it worked like a champ. Same goes for DD-Rescue, it seems to be working properly - a few hangs from time to time, and it's only going at a few hundred kB/sec (On a 1tb drive - you do the math), but it's actually working.

I am currently looking around for a way I can use different internet sources on different programs. I'm looking in't streaming on my mobile data but the ping is still too high when playing a game. I want to play a game using my broadband connection but use other programs with my data e.g. OBS and Chrome. I hav already tired to use ForceBindIP but it didn't seem to work properly and some programs wouldn't open at all when using the command line in CMD. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
