Welcome to another small electronics project! I decided to build a set of compact stereo speakers for use as a family member's tv speakers. The goal was to make a small set of good-sounding speakers with good bass. Parts list: 2x Dayton Audio ND105-4 4" Aluminum Cone 4 Ohm midbass drivers 2x Dayton Audio ND16FA-6 5/8" soft dome neodymium tweeters Dayton Audio DTA-2 Class T digital amplifier 2x cheap Uxcell crossovers from Amazon Sure Electronics PS-SP11111 12 VDC 3A power brick ½” thick MDF, 2ft x 4ft panel 2x semi-gloss spray paint cans Pricing: Currency: USD CAD Woofers $53.80 $69.45 Tweeters $19.28 $24.89 Amplifier $19.90 $25.69 Crossovers $11.81 $15.25 Power brick $16.50 $21.30 MDF panel $7.55 $9.75 Spray paint cans (x2) $17.09 $22.58 Total cost: $145.93 $188.91 The cost of screws and wood glue were not included in the price of the project. Overall, the speakers are fairly affordable at less than $150 USD for all the components, but it could have been cheaper if I had used some less expensive midrange drivers. I didn't though, because I love how the Dayton Audio ones look. Renders:

Hey everyone! I've been thinking lately of getting a desktop PC ,right now i own a HP pavilion g6 2292-nr - hell of an oven(features AMD CPU with intergrated GPU , sometimes i can even burn myself ). So i decided, if a PC, than it should be as compact as possible, and it suppose to be fast enough, cause' i might play GPU-hard games sometime. And i also need good performance for my job , and , you know, everyone hates waiting for everything to load. So what i want you to do guys , is to look at the components list, and tell me , if you have any advice , about the price, parts etc. Maybe there's no need to use certain components , and you could advise something better. And , if there's a cheaper way to build a PC close to this , without loosing much performance , please let me know. So we've got on mind: Case : Fractal Design Node-202 (https://pcpartpicker.com/product/GsZ2FT/fractal-design-case-fdcanode202bk) CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K Motherboard : MSI Z170I GAMING Graphics card : Asus TURBO-GTX1060-6G RAM : Kingstom HyperX 16gb (2x8gb) 3200MHz Storage : SSD SAMSUNG 850 EVO 120GB M.2 SATA || 3.5" WD Blue 1TB SATAIII/64MB/7200rpm Power Supply :BE QUIET! SFX Power 2 400W CPU cooling : THERMALRIGHT AXP-100 Muscle Well , any part can be changed , except motherboard, or maybe you can tell better alternative. I know that the price for all that sweet pile of silicon and metal is 'sweet' enough. Nevertheless I'll take any advice, if it has a good reasons Thanks everyone.

Hello, I want to get a new phone, I currently have a barely functioning Samsung Galaxy Pocket 2 and was looking at the Z3 and Z5 compact, I want one of those because they're not too huge for me and are very good, but is the Z5 compact worth the extra $140 or should I just get the Z3 compact? The Z5 supposedly has better audio quality, camera quality, is newer, has a better CPU, etc.

Hey all, What do you guys think of this compact pc build I'm planning. I'm looking at ways I could potentially save a few bucks. I want to keep the 1060 and remain with Intel but other than that I'm open to suggestions. I know there isn't a case included btw. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/rrmnLD Thanks

Hello! To get this out the way asap, sorry if this is in the wrong place or I'm asking some really stupid questions. I'm new to all this stuff. So for my other half's birthday I've decided to build her a PC. Most of the time she's playing rather basic games (things like TF2, Portal, Minecraft, Terraria and the like) and the rest of the time she'll be using things like MS word or Chrome. Here is the list of stuff I've come up with and I was wondering if anyone could find any issues with the build or have any suggestions to make it cheaper/faster. I'm trying to keep everything under £500 so with the build I've currently got I've got a small bit of cash to play with. Thanks! Hey all, I'm planning to build a pc into my desk drawer (380mmx300mm)My plan is to water cool it with an all-in-one and but all the rear io in the back of the drawer. The PC needs 2 HDMI ports, it obviously has to fit so I'm looking at a micro-atx board but I know for a fact a full atx PSU won't fit. I will be connecting the GPU with a pci-express extender cable but I'm not sure what parts to choose. Price is difficult to say but I'm look around an i5 4670 and gtx 750 ti spec graphics card but these aren't set in stone. Budget should be no more than $1000 and a 1060 would be okay. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Fraser

Hello Linustechtips Community, I am brand new to this stuff but I have been wanting to get into PC gaming for years. I have a few parameter but money is no issue. If I was to build this today I have a budget of 1000.00 Canadian dollars, but each month I wait it grows by 300.00. My biggest thing is that I get deployed for two months every year and have limited space on an airplane to store things, also I have misgivings about putting a computer under a plane, and out of my reach for a whole flight. I am basically looking for laptop portability, with desktop performance and customization. I won't be using this on the go, I just want it to be easily taken from where it is to somewhere else, so do not require it to run on a battery, I just want a compact build that I can put in a backpack or shoulder case/briefcase with all the peripherals. Or if I can get a case with a screen like a laptop with the hardware in a case on the bottom. I also want this to be high end so that I will have no problems running any games for the next few years. At home this will most likely be hooked up to either my 4k TV, or a 1080p TV. If I don't feel that these will cut it then I can deal with that till I can get a different solution. I have looked at a few options for portable screens and found a few. - https://www.amazon.com/Sentry-Personal-Gaming-Environment-playstation-4/dp/B00A7VK16A/ref=pd_sim_63_6?ie=UTF8&dpID=41aoGH76KRL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=JSNMVVT03QNZHQT32CQ0 This one comes with the ability to put the peripherals in the same case, but the screen is less mobile and the container might be too small to fit a proper computer into it. - https://www.amazon.com/Performance-Portable-Monitor-Consoles-console-included/dp/B00P45U628/ref=pd_sim_63_5?ie=UTF8&dpID=41GOTfKtvBL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=V7Q62KDQ43KJRWV0TQ8Z This one is mobile and slim. I can set it up and game by looking at it from a chair or put it in my lap when laying on the bed. - https://gaemspge.com/m240-professional-gaming-monitor.html Best one I found I have also looked at a few cases that looked like they could fit a high end rig in it. This looks small but I am unsure about how portable it would be. - http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/node-series/node-304-black This looks pretty much the same - http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=345 These are the only things I have so far. The guts of it will come later, although I am looking for suggestions on those as well. The main reason I posted this was to find out if this build is even possible or if it is a pipe dream. Thank you all for input and advice.

If you're like me, you don't want an excessive full-size tower and you prefer cases like the Fractal Design Node 202. Do you wish you could find, or even fabricate a smaller case with support for a 3.5" HDD, a 2.5" SSD, and full size GPUs like a Titan, or a custom board 1080? Below are pictures of a 3D model from sketchup. If you want to make it, go for it. Ask me questions if you need more details. There's also 2 pictures for a water cooled version with an R9 Nano, but no 3.5" HDD; it's the same size. I just grabbed models from the sketchup "warehouse" and arranged the parts how I wished. Unfortunately I don't remeber the original creators of each parts.

Hi guys, I have seen that there have been some "compact" mATX motherboards that are a bit thinner due to having 2 ram slots. Does anyone now if there are any lga1151 motherboards like this? Preferably z170. Thanks

Hey guys I am looking to build a small compact PC that has enough power for my tasks while staying In my budget this what I would be using it for. will be watching 1080p videos and I will be running CPU intensive programs such as eclipse, Android Studio and I also plan on running Minecraft and Illustrator as well as for listening and fiddling with music. My maximum would be $600 but I would love to stay under $550 I would also like to include Windows in the budget. Also I would prefer to use this case with and external power supply. -Case: Streacom F1C EVO Mini ITX HTPC Chassis

HELP So in late November i built my first PC build which you can find here: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/q3C4K8 And now I am looking to upgrade, here are my plans. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9PkD6h Now if you didn't notice, it was missing a PC case. I have been looking at tons of different cases but just can't decide! I really like the compact designs of cases like the Corsair Carbide Air 240 or the Bitfenix prodigy M, But i don't want to be limited by 2 expansion slots. I also would like sufficient air flow and some type of side panel window, although it does not need to be very big. Anyways I was looking for some help in choosing the right PC case for my system. What Do You Think?

Hi guys, im in search of a compact m-ATX Case, like the title says. It shouldnt be a standart ATX case, except you bring up good reasons why i should take it. Furthermore at least one opticaldrivebay should be available. For storage i am running two SSDs so that shouldnt be a problem and for a graphics card i got a 960 G1 Gaming wich is pretty long (15,9" / 38.1cm). The budget is 100 euros/110$ If you could find a case that fits my needs i would be so thankful

Hello all. As of now, I'm working on an idea that I thought of whilst watching the following video: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/363817-the-most-compact-gaming-pc-titan-x-18-core-xeon-in-a-shoebox/ I plan on switching some of the components such as the CPU and GPU for lower grade ones that suit my need. My idea for a build is to mod a pivot-able wall mount on the case and attach a monitor to it. That way, I can just put the case upright and tilt the monitor to the level my eyes are comfortable at. From there, all I would need is to plug-in the PC, a keyboard, and mouse as well. What do you guys think?

Hi everyone, So my laptop broke down yesterday (RIP beloved msi GT780dx). Turns out playing legacy of the void for 3 hours was too much for you (one of the chips on the graphics card burnt out - there was smoke and stuff..). Therefore I decided to build a compact PC. I will be going in my last year of university so i figured it might be time to get an actual PC rather than a gaming laptop (i have a secondary laptop that i use for school). I used to play a lot of games but nowadays it's mostly dota2, duelyst, and anno. Occasionally I like to play more demanding games like Tomb Raider, Assassin's creed, or MGSV (when i can spare the time). Other things I would use this pc for is photoshop, and matlab. Budget: <$1000 would be nice but I am willing to go to up to $1200 (I am a somewhat broke student...planning on having tap water and fresh air for breakfast for a couple of months to fund this pc) Location: Canada Requirements & aim: As compact as possible. My parents do not live in Canada so I move about 2-3 times per year depending on where I go to work on my internships (UWaterloo coop program life) I would like something that will last me 3-4 years if possible. I used my gaming laptop for 3.5 year and was planning to go 1-2 years more GTX 970 would be nice Monitor and other peripherals: I already have a decent monitor and a razer deathadder as mouse. I would only need to get a keyboard. I will also be salvaging the HDD from my laptop I came up with a list of parts that I think would fulfill my requirements and I just wanted for feedback and suggestions for improvements So here's the build: ASRock H97M-ITX/ac LGA 1150 Intel H97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard (a bit pricy but this mobo has solid features. Also having onboard wifi is a plus for me) http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157526&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-VigLink2-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3821802&SID=ii88pxh9ja0035wt00053 Silverstone SFX-SERIES SX500-LG 500W SFX-L Form Factor 12V 80PLUS Gold Modular Power Supply (compatible with case) http://www.ncix.com/detail/silverstone-sfx-series-sx500-lg-500w-sfx-l-76-105439.htm Silverstone Raven Z RVZ02B mITX Case 1XODD 2X2.5IN 2XUSB3.0 1XPCI-E x16 Support SFX PSU – Black (pretty good compromise between size and versatility in terms of what you can fit in it) http://www.ncix.com/detail/silverstone-raven-z-rvz02b-mitx-16-117513.htm Kingston HyperX Fury Memory Black 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 CL10 Dual Channel Memory Kit (cheapest memory i could find) http://www.ncix.com/detail/kingston-hyperx-fury-memory-black-5e-95956-1241.htm Intel Core i5 I5-4460 Haswell 3.2GHZ Processor LGA1150 6MB Cache Retail (seems like the best value for money quad core cpu but i could be wrong. once again i looked for the cheapest i5) http://www.ncix.com/detail/intel-core-i5-i5-4460-haswell-48-96203-1241.htm ASUS GeForce GTX 970 Strix OC 1253MHZ 4GB 7.0GHZ GDDR5 2xDVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E (i really want a 970 for some reason...) http://www.ncix.com/detail/asus-geforce-gtx-970-strix-0b-102345-1241.htm PCPARTPICKER: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/RandoPotato/saved/qHTypg Total comes to $1276 (after-tax) or $1221 (after-tax and mail-in rebates) What do you guys think? Is there anything I could downgrade to make it cheaper? Thanks

I'm currently using a Xperia Z3 Compact. I would like to us the Cloud 2 as my daily driver for my phone. But for some reason my audio jack on my phone doesn't hold onto the connector, despite both supporting 3.5mm. So right now I'm looking for a real durable a cheap adapter. I've looked around but am unsure of what is the right purchase.

Hi, So next summer I am going to be moving and switching jobs. The new job will require me to reloacte every 1.5 - 3 months and I will need my computer with me at all times. I will be selling my current computer right before I move, just so I don't have to bring it with me. My current situation is that I'm using a Hackintosh. I do own a Macbook Pro as well, and I do prefer the OS to Windows (although I do have a second OS drive with Windows 8.1 for gaming, which also gets a lot of use). I've found that for the software I use (namely Avid software like Pro Tools and all the necessary drivers for the current audio gear I own) OS X runs better. However a Hackintosh is not without problems... It took me a LONG time to set up and still doesn't run *perfectly*, although it is stable at the moment. This has presented me with a few options. I can either: _______________________________ A) Save up lots and buy a Mac Pro (trashcan style). I would be looking at at least the 8 core version and would like 64GB of RAM, although I would likely buy this third party as it's much cheaper that way. I would also get the dual D700 GPU, so that I can have a top gaming experience in Windows 8.1/10 (boot camp), although this is subject to drivers... I've seen lots of people saying it works and some saying it really doesn't... B) Get the same Mac Pro but with the least expensive GPU and build a Windows rig on the side. Likely an ITX, very compact rig with something like a 980ti C) Build an X99 Hackintosh based on the 5960X. This way I would be able to choose my GPU, but then I would be stuck with the same potential issues I have now, that it could just decide to give up on me if some settings aren't right... _______________________________ Now, considering I'll be travelling a lot (I have an Impala, '03) I won't be able to go for anything huge, which is why the Mac Pro really shines, because it's so tiny for all the power it packs. Also the stability of running OSX on a computer built for it is priceless. BUT, it's also very expensive and the lack of any additional internal storage is very annoying as i'll have to carry round a few external drives too, or build a NAS which is even more cost... Option B is probably the option I would go for if money was no object. I could have the best of both worlds, wouldn't have to worry about compatibility and it wouldn't take up too much space (something like a Corsair 250D or even smaller). Building a Hackintosh could be really good. I was thinking of possibly buying a rackmount flight case (so, extra protection in the car) and if I were to use a 4U chassis in an 8U flight case, I could keep my other audio gear in the same flight case and have it permanently linked up. All I would need to do when I get out the car is plug it into power and monitors. This is also more cost effective (although it would still be expensive), but it then comes with the worry, time and effort of putting together a Hackintosh... I was looking to potentially water cool as well (if I go for option C, which would come out kind of like Linus' personal rig in the near future), but how would this hold up on the road? Is that just a really bad idea? I feel like that's another benefit of the Mac Pro. I would have a flight case for that too (basically a hard box with foam inside, they only cost about $150) but I feel like that would be a lot better on the road.... Any thoughts on this are helpful. Basically I want something that will run cool and fast (hence why I don't just use my laptop with a few monitors), work well, game well, be roadworthy and also compact. This is still about 9-10 months off, but I'd like to have a plan as soon as possible, even if I pick parts when I'm out there. Thanks!

last week since my dad wanted to get a ps4 i decided to plan a build for a steam machine (even thougth the os isn't finished and the pre-built systems aren't out with the exception of that alienware and asus ROG one, kinda) while keeping to a small price-range but ending up to be much more expensive than the ps4 this is my non-finalised version, beefer but more expensive version of the build with the currency being in pound sterling £ case:Antec ISK 600 Gaming Cube Case cost:£37.76 supplier:Amazon.uk motherboard: ASRock FM2A78M-ITX+ Socket FM2+ VGA DVI-D HDMI 7.1 CH HD Audio Mini-ITX Motherboard cost:£65.00 supplier:Ebuyer cpu: amd athlon x4-860k cost:£53.99 supplier:Amazon.uk gpu: amd r7 370 cost£140.00 supplier:Overclockers psu:Be Quiet 400W PSU - BN142 System Power 7 Quiet 12cm Fan 80+ cost:£36.97 supplier:Overclockers ram:kingston 8gb ddr3 2400mhz dual channel cost:£38.98 supplier:Dabs cpu cooler:Phanteks PH-TC14CS CPU Cooler cost:£29.99 supplier:Overclockers hard drive:HGST 1TB Travelstar SATA 6GB/s 5400RPM 8MB 9.5mm Hard Drive cost:£36.31 supplier:Dabs total cost:£438.00 in conclusion, compared to the average price of the ps4 (£350) or one with a bundle (£300) this is more of a first try, semi-budget build. Not to mention the cpu cooler wasn't finalised and the psu isn't semi-modular considering the size of the case, another thing you can do is ever get a £15 slim HDD online or scalvage it from a old laptop and maybe get a mini-sata to sata adapter if it needs one, even thougth you might rarely use it; also another thing is that the motherboard doesn't have wireless so your best choice is to find a usb wireless adapter online unless you have a modem or router a couple of meters away or have ethernet sockets in the wall, not to mention if you have one you might have to use a usb controller you have laying around or buy one, further increasing the price.i do intend to make a second build thread on the finalized build which in total £334.79, and still is faster but the performance gap is quite less.

I ended up speking it myself, and it would be the most powerful compact build, and the raijentek metis is a tiny case. Something id love to see linus build, the absolute limit of compact pc gaming without compromises. http://pcpartpicker.com/user/GauntletV2/saved/v2Wscf

I'm building an all air-cooled gaming PC : Intel 6600K, Radeon R9-380 or 380X, with a Cryorig H7 CPU cooler, 3 case fans. Looking for some case recommendations for best airflow. I'm having trouble deciding on a motherboard, so I think it would be best if I pick a case first, seeing as a lot of mATX cases are pretty similar in size to compact mid-tower cases. I want a really clean looking case, not cluttered with drive cages as I will only be using an SSD and one HDD. Quality dust filters are a huge plus. I like the NZXT S340 a lot but I wouldn't mind some more premium features. Phanteks Evolv mATX is awesome but pricey, bitfenix Prodigy M beautiful but seems poorly designed for airflow... Cube cases are cool, but I want clean cable management and an fairly easy build. Ya, need some advice!
