I have now reinstalled 19.10 onto an SSD 3 times with the same results: OS installs without error Restart and load the OS OS loads without error Install an application/driver or two. Run apt update && apt upgrade Restart OS gets stuck at loading screen (pic) I'm dumbfounded. Each time, same result. Loads correctly the first boot stops working the 2nd. This isn't the first time I've experienced this type of issue on earlier versions of Ubuntu but the issue was always fixed by just restarting the machine. This time the issue is persistent. Have you @MEC-777 had this issue before and had any success getting around it? Perhaps I should try a different distribution like Mint or Pop and see if the results are different? Right now this is not my primary SSD. It's a scratch SSD for general testing. All troubleshooting suggestions from everyone are appreciated. Hardware (no OC's): AMD Threadripper 1950X G.Skill Ripjaws 4x8GB 2400MHz ASUS X399-A PRIME 2xSapphire Tri-X R9 290X's ADATA SP900 64GB (For testing Ubuntu 19.10) Samsung 960 Pro 1TB (running Ubuntu 19.04) Broadcom BCM85710S Dual SFP+ NIC Corsair AX1200i To create the bootable thumb drive for installing 19.10 I used dd (may or may not have something to do with the issue): umount /dev/sdb1 mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdb1 dd if=ubuntu-19.10-desktop-amd64.iso of=/dev/sdb

Hi All, So my PC has been acting odd recently. After installing a new SSD and doing a fresh upgrade to windows 10, it started not being able to turn back on after a night of being shut down. This started about a month and a half ago. It powers up, no "Beep" from the mobo, no HDMI output/ splash screen, and then shut down after about five seconds. After a further 5 seconds, it would start back up, "Beep", the mouse and the keyboard would light up, the monitor would turn on, a single underscore displays in the top left of the screen, then turn off again. It then restarts this whole process again, on an infinite loop. Initially, simply unplugging a lot of things and plugging them back in again would get it to boot. After that, I would not shut it down, but instead put it in sleep mode, from which it had no trouble loading back up from. I've been able to do this a few times over the last month when it has shut down for whatever reason - but unfortunately, last night's shut down was the last straw, and I cant get it back on, with it being stuck in the continuous loop. Things I have tried: Reset the CMOS with a screw driver (this worked once before but not this time) Removed the CMOS battery for 3 mins then put it back in Unplug and plug everything attached to the motherboard back in again Remove the GPU and use the mobo hdmi output Remove all things plugged into the mobo one by one and trying to start it up with each removed in an attempt to pinpoint what might be doing it Ensure that the mobo is appropriately raised off of the case with those special screws/ make sure that it is not too tightly screwed in (flush but not really really tight) My specs: OS: Windows 10 64bit Processor: i5 4960K PSU: G7 Power Extreme 780W GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 RAM: 2x Corsair Vengeance 8gb Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel LGA1150 Z97 ATX SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 1 TB SATA 2.5" Anyone got any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I don't really want to have to get a new motherboard (as I would then have to get a new processor and RAM as any new MOBO i get would be LGA 1151)!

Tried with a single ram stickattempted using other sata ports, i've reformatted the hardrive and reinstalled windows on it and it will boot to windows on other machines without issue but no luck with this one. I went and created a ubuntu bootable on my flash drive and the system starts with no issues. I have been able to get it to boot into safe mode with the hardrive however that's as far as I've gotten, checked the health of the drive through the bios and there seems to be no issue with it. Cpu temps are also well within specany advice or tips on how I can resolve this issue?

I have a crappy PC that i built some years ago (i3-7100 gtx 750ti 8gbRAM 500wpsu msi h110 m a pro m2 motherboard). It worked fine until a few months ago when it started to reboot when i would play games with good graphics. I would be playing Warframe on high settings with 70 fps and the pc would reboot itself out of nowhere(I played on these settings before and everything was fine). So i bought a new motherboard, because i was told the old one couldnt deliver as much voltage as it used to, this time it was msi h310m pro-vdh plus. I installed everything on it and when i pushed the power button my pc turened on for 2 seconds and then it shut off. I tried everything to fix it i swapped my ram around i did that reboot with a battery thats on the motherboard, i unpluged evrything exeps psu. The problem is with the motherboard because i tried to boot with my old one and it worked. The new motherboard is in perfect contition from the outside, no pins bent no nothing. Please help

Hi Guys, I just built my first PC. After I finished building it I tried to boot it into the bios but I am stuck in a boot loop and my monitor gets no signal. The PC turns on for about 20 seconds and then switches off for 3 seconds and repeats. Most people say that I should pop my CMOS out and put it back in, but this would only reset the bios. My parts are brand new and since I never actually managed to get into the bios and hence never changed anything I hardly believe that a bios reset will help. Do you have any help on how to fix this? My Parts are: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor ARCTIC Freezer 34 eSports DUO CPU Cooler ASRock B450M PRO4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory Zotac GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER 4 GB Twin Fan Video Card Crucial BX500 480 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L MicroATX Mini Tower Case Corsair CXM 550 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply ARCTIC P14 Silent 29.8 CFM 140 mm Fan ARCTIC P14 Silent 29.8 CFM 140 mm Fan

Hey all. I just completed a budget build for only running a vinyl printing/embroidering machine and light internet use. The motherboard box as well as the manufacturer said every part was compatible and no boot kit was needed. I've walked through all their steps as well as amd's and nothing has worked. I've troubleshooted in every way and i'm stuck getting this 30 second boot loop. Its super frustrating and i'm looking for any other insight yall might have. There is no post but the case lights come on and there is no cpu speaker beeps. PARTS LIST: Mobo: Asrock B450 Gaming ITX/ac Cpu: Ryzen 3 2200g APU Psu: Evga 550w Ram: Patriot Viper 2133mhz 8gb No GPU

Hi. I was watching a movie while my pc suddenly shut off. 2 seconds later it turned back on, now it turns off and on every two seconds. Video link : https://youtu.be/saFa7bVXNI0 i have checked the power switch by unplugging it and turning the pc on with the two pins on the mobo, same loop occured. i have taken out the ram, same taken out the graphics cards , same unplugged the hard drives , same it comes down to the cpu , psu and mobo. May this be a hardware issue ? Thank you for the help and sorry for the formatting. (Writing from my phone)

My friend just recently gave me a motherboard that he had replaced. He told me that when you turned it on, it would power on for 2 seconds, then turn off for 2 seconds, and then power back on again for 2 seconds. Then rinse and repeat. I recently powered on the board yesterday and can confirm that it is doing this. The motherboard is a GA-Z87-D3HP that has a DualBios. Here are the following things I have tried and keep in mind the motherboard is not inside a case since I don't have another case: Changed to 2 different types of DDR3 RAM (no change still power looping) Changed to 2 different types of DDR3 RAM (no change still power looping) No RAM installed (no change still power looping) Changed CMOS battery (no change still power looping) Cleared CMOS (no change still power looping) Used PCIE graphics card (no change still power looping) Changed location of PCIE graphics card (no change still power looping) Used integrated graphics (no change still power looping) I'm all out of ideas. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I got a strange issue, which I tried to solve for months now and where I got no hope left for a permanent solution. I don't get it, why it's still imposible to do Major Windows 10 Updates without a "freeze", followed by boot looping for serval Haswell or Sandybridge based Systems. Here's what i expirienced with the following combination. A budget PC, OEM by Asus, with a "h81m-a" board and a "i7-4770s" still can't do the update (from Windows 7 or windows 10 first release to April 2018 or second "October" November release), even if the latest official "BIOS" is in place. BIOS manipulations, like a CPU microcode which I applied to the different partitions within the UEFI's (GPT Based) "BIOS" file system (Check "FIT Table" Screenshot) have no effect either. I'm not all alone with this issue (but I don't own a "G3258" CPU). For reference one of many links: Intel forum about H81 and G3258 I suspect that there exists a general problem with all "Intel H81" based systems, but I can't confirm it. But maybe this could be a topic for Linus to investigate. Because so far "team blue" never gave a clear answer to this issue.

Hey everyone Hope you are all having a good Friday and happy 10 years LTT I am hoping that I can get some insight on a windows deployment server issue I am seeing. The company I work for has a deployment server onsite so that we can image new PCs The issue is I am seeing is I am able to get the new PC to boot to the server. It loads the file and then opens up windows deployment services, but before the window opens up so that I can start a deployment the PC reboots. Out of the close to 50ish computers (laptops and desktops) I have only had this happen 2 times. So it isn't a common issue but still a problem that I would like to know how to correct and prevent if it is a workflow issue which I am doubtful of. The PCs are Lenovo T480's and Lenovo M710's.

Here are my specifications: intel i7 - 4770 processor, with the stock cooler/heat sink intel DB85FL motherboard 8 GB of DDR3 RAM from Crucial Seagate SKYHAWKS 1TB HDD, no SSD Zebronics 450 watt power supply and a nvidia GTX 1050ti The problem: Boot loops without POST. [Please check the bullet points, if the following paragraphs are too long] Almost for a week now my PC started to give out random BSODs every now and then, when a video game was running. I thought maybe extra RAM was required, so I placed an order [UPDATE BELOW]. But then the computer started to crash more frequently while running lesser loads. (Casual browsing twitter, YT, twitch, discord, and some light VS code. Even android studio used to run without crashes. Sounds like a lot now that I type it out, but I had no problems before). The crashes were followed by a boot loop, where the PC lights up, fans spin then turns off almost immediately. This goes on for a while and only sometimes I get a POST error. I hit “N”, then it usually restarted a couple of times before booting up into WIndows 10. I checked the reliability monitor, and one of the errors from every day of the week since the BSOD stared to show up, read “Windows 10 failed to shutdown properly”, even when I had hit shutdown. I thought maybe an OS re-installation could fix it, so I backed up my data and set out to reinstall the OS. I managed to installed pop_os! [Latest version] since I already had created an image beforehand on a USB drive. The HDD was formatted during the installation process. The PC did go into a loop once during the first try, but it managed to install and run normally during the second run. After a while, I tried shutting it down, but it went to a restart loop. I was already tired and frustrated, so I pulled the plug out, and figured I will deal with it the next day. I ran into the same boot loop with no POST problems once again the following day. I replaced the PSU [among other things, please check the list below], all the effort was useless since I’m, facing the same problem, and rarely if the OS tries to boot up normally, I run into a black login screen. I did manage to run the OS off the USB drive, but not without looping for several times. Also, when the PC was working normally, the CrystalDiskInfo software did display the status “Good” for the Hard drive. I ran into this issue of BSODs and boot loops at the beginning of the year, I formatted and installed a fresh copy of Windows 10, and everything was normal for a while. I tried the following: Cleaned the PC. Reseat the RAM stick, I had no beeps. Ran the computer with only the CPU, HDD and the PSU. I heard three beeps, which I believe indicated the missing RAM [I’m not sure, please let me know if I’m wrong here] Ran the computer without any external USB connections. Checked the seating of the cooler. [Seated normally] Changed the SATA cable connecting the HDD to the motherboard I bought a brand new PSU and replaced the old one, but still running into the same problems. Reset the BIOS to default settings also did not help. I finally tried to reset the bios by removing and reinstalling the CMOS battery, and it has not helped. Also, like I mentioned before, formatted and installed a different OS, did not help. UPDATE: I also tried booting with the new RAM stick, and with both of them installed, did not solve the issue. While I did manage to boot up off the USB drive with the HDD disconnected, but upon restart, the loops did resume. During the successful boot the memory did detect both RAM sticks, so I believe the RAM sticks are fine. I’m wondering if I should just give up and get a new PC, but with the pandemic going on I am not sure I can get one in time for my projects and assignments. Thanks for reading, I really appreciate it. Hopefully someone here can help me out. Apologies, if the post was too long. Thanks.

Hello everyone, I guess I need a bit of help/advice with Windows, as I am a bit stuck.. Specs: Intel Core i7-3930k @4.4GHz (cooled by the original Corsair Hydro Series H100 - temperatures are completely fine, pump works fine, even after all these years) Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4X4) @2133MHz Asus Rampage IV Forumula PowerColor Red Devil Radeon RX580 8GB (used, recently upgraded from the Asus GTX 680 DirectCU II) OCZ Fatal1ty 1000W Crucial MX100 256GB (upgraded from the OCZ Vertex 4, which died) (18431 hours) Samsung 850 EVO 500GB (X2) (15636 hours) WD Caviar Black 2TB (26810 hours) Problem: Let me preface this by saying that I am updated to the newest BIOS and that all settings before attempting to update are stock (no CPU OC, no memory OC, no nothing). Basically my computer gets stuck in an endless boot loop after trying to update to Windows 10, version 1903. I mean the kind of boot loop that makes it IMPOSSIBLE to get into any kind of safe mode or anything else. It just randomly keeps restarting and physically shutting off and turning on by itself (it does this for hours if I let it and continues like this in no particular intervals). Even if I PHYSICALLY UNPLUG the power cord from the machine and let it sit unplugged for some time, it literally physically (like pressing the power on button) turns on and continues with the boot loop, as soon as I flip the switch on my PSU to ON. The only thing that managed to save me (for some reason) was switching BIOS chips (the Asus Rampage IV Formula has two physical BIOS chips and an actual physical button to switch between them - one is updated, which I use daily and the other one I've always kept stock, so oldest possible version). I have absolutely no idea why switching my BIOS was able to get me into Windows (didn't update, btw), but it did... after that I am able to shut my computer down, switch the BIOS back to the updated one (which I run daily, of course) and the computer works fine. Basically I gave up trying to update this PC and I turned off any auto updates, any update prompts in the registry, etc., so I'm just running my PC without updating it, which is not ok.. If anyone could give me their input, spare some of their time to try and help, or offer me some advice, I would appreciate it greatly and I for that I would like to sincerely thank those people in advance. So I basically gave up with updating my pretty much 9 year old PC (built it myself, 1st and only owner, of course), because I am looking to upgrade in the next year or two. What I wouldn't like to do at this moment is buy another Widows licence key, but I've been hearing and seeing people running non-activated versions of Windows just fine and from what I understand I just have to download the official Windows installer to an USB stick, install it without being connected to the internet and then just.. not activate it..? Is this true? Can I use Windows normally even if I don't activate it or will there be a problem? I was thinking just of wiping all of my drives to eliminate potential (software related, I guess...?) issues that might have been causing the boot loop in the first place. So, the question: can I use Windows normally without activating it & what would be the best way to go about doing that? Does anyone else have a better solution for me? I would like to thank you all in advance for reading and taking your time to think this through - deeply appreciate any help!

Hey everyone, so my I have a m.2 256GB SSD that I installed on my Windows 10 laptop a few years ago. My laptop came with a 1TB HDD and I used an HDD to SSD OS migrate program to use the SSD as my main boot option. There were never any issues until very recently. All of a sudden, Windows updates would freeze my SSD at boot. Eventually Windows Recovery would repair the crap updates and I'd continue as if nothing happened. One day as I was browsing the internet, my laptop shutoff and upon rebooting, my SSD went past the Windows boot stage and would get to the "applying Windows Updates screen" for half a second. Then it would loop the process over and over. I was able to get into the BIOS and actually boot into my HDD but a lot of my apps and programs wouldn't show up because they were installed on the SSD. The good thing is that all my files, music, and pics are still on the HDD. I've created a bootable USB with Windows to see if I can reinstall Windows 10 on my SSD, as my laptop still detects the disk and the volumes in the Command Prompt. I'm not sure where else to go from here? I'd like to get a concrete diagnosis on what the exact issue is and hope to solve it. Thanks! Laptop Specs: ASUS UX510UX | Windows 10 Home | 16GB RAM | 256GB SSD | 1TB HDD | Intel Core i5-7200U

Hi, I currently have a Lennovo yoga 730-13 and I'm having a boot loop, i read online that if you changed the boot mode to legacy instead of uefi it could stop the boot loop but i cant, apparently i need to change my secure boot, but I realized that my secure boot in the information panel said disabled already while the one in security said enabled, so i disabled the one that said enabled but it did nothing. i still cant access the boot mode, can anyone help? Thanks!

0xc000021a error, command prompt doesn't seem to help yet
Dave san posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hey guys! I'm new to this forum so I hope I've put this thread in the right place. Basically my school gave me a pc a few years back. It's a Dell Optiplex 3020 sff, with no modified components. I was recently thinking about copying the "We upgraded the $69 gaming pc and it rocks!" video from LTT because its only a couple of generations behind the one they use in the video (to my knowledge at least). However just two days ago and for no apparent reason it failed to open and displayed the blue screen of death with the error code 0xc000021a. I THINK MAYBE it was due to an update, because checking the restore points showed an update that occurred the night before I got into the boot loop, but I'm not sure about this. I watched plenty of youtube step by step command prompt guides and copied them to the letter, in some cases double checking the lines of code they suggest because they were sometimes incorrect (forgetting spaces before "/" and stuff), but nothing seems to work. Here's a link to the video I thought was most helpful but still didn't work: I'm really not a programmer and the command prompt only sort of makes sense to me. But I'm willing to learn or to be pointed to some material which I could read up on. But if it's beyond fixing, as I mentioned I was planning on upgrading anyway, and the only priority I have is being able to somehow retrieve the documents etc. on the HDD (even if that means taking it in to a professional or something). So my BIG 3 questions are: 1. Is there anyway I can resurrect the old PC so I can back up my files? 2. If I can't fix it, how should I go about getting a professional to look at it? 3. If a part needs to be replaced, like the cpu or something, what should I be looking to buy and install? I'm TOTALLY new to building PCs, but I feel pretty confident after watching like 30 build guides and reading a butt load of wikipedia articles. I know my Dell Optiplex has an intel H81 chipset with some kinda pentium processor if that's helpful to know, it is the sff build, with a HDD and I think only 8GB of DDR2 RAM. Also I'm 99% sure it has an unused PCIe 16x slot (is that correct use of computing jargon? XD), but that's probably totally irrelevant! Anyways, sorry this is so long! I'm glad to have joined the community and I've only heard great things about it so far! Looking forward to hearing from anyone!-

Hello. I recently tried turning on my PC and it turned on, turned off, then turned on again. It does this in a loop and I get nothing on my monitor. I’ve tried reseating all of my parts and cables, I tried resetting the BIOS, I tried putting in a different graphics card, and I tested to see if my PSU was faulty. The PSU turns on and the fans spin. My computer was working fine before. My PC also tended to give me BSOD errors about memory but I’m not sure if that has something to do with it. I ran the memory test and said my memory is fine. I’ve been working on this for hours. Please help. Thank you.

I am trying to install windows. But, it is in a boot loop. It loads the files then attempts to start windows, but then it restarts and does the same thing over and over. Boot order USB ( Windows 7 installation method) SSD DVD rom There are other things but I have disabled all but the ones shown above. I did the diagnostics check. everything's fine

Hey all... I think my new motherboard fried my psu... Specs: Intel i5 6600k (with a CM Hyper 212 evo) Gigabyte Z170X-UD3 2x8gb Corsair Vengeance RGB GTX 1060 3gb 1 275gb ssd and a 1tb hdd EVGA 450b psu (450w, obviously) Here's what happened. I built the pc on the motherboard box (even connecting case connections so I could use the power button). Booted to windows no problem, but shut off after a couple minutes. I made it into bios the next time, and again it shut off after like a minute. From then on I was in a boot loop. it would post fine but then shut off. After doing that for a minute, the power light on the case and the rgb lights in the ram started blinking on and off steadily (no fans spinning). I turned everything off and now I can't get anything to turn on. I tried a paperclip in the PSU and it seems to be dead, also I'm scared I probably fried everything else too. any idea what caused this?

Well i was watching a video on my computer when suddenly froze and when i restarted it begin to boot loop, fans turn on lights as well then reestarts, i take it apart and then when i put everything back in it started but ssd was done it wont load the os, so i think that was it but it was'nt, without the ssd, withoud the hdd it wont post it just boot loop so i change the motherboard and nothing, waste of time and money i turn on the computer without the ram and it will still boot loop i take the psu and put it in a friend old pc and it works fine so im ***** done can you tell me if it is the cpu, nowing if is that i could at least sell all the other stuff funny how just when i start university and i would really need my pc it just dies on me i7 6700k 8gb ddr4 corsair vengeance Gtx 1070 amp extreme Wd hdd 2tb Evga 600w

So i'm working on this Toshiba laptop and I can't seem to get it to boot into any kind of windows. It won't boot into windows on its own hard drive, it also won't boot into windows on a USB key or a DVD. I've tried Windows 10, 8, and 7. It can see the install disks fine but once it starts to try and boot to them I get the loading wheel for a second of two than the computer just cuts power and restarts. The weird part is it boots to my linux key just fine. I already reflashed the bios and have tried disabling secure boot and uefi etc etc. I ran a bootable hardware testing tool (which strangely enough is windows based) and everything checks out. I've tried different USB ports and I even opened up the laptop and re-seated the ram and unplugged the battery to power cycle it. The weirdest part is when I first got the laptop yesterday it would turn on and boot to install keys no problem. It was after I ran wpeutil reboot in command prompt that this issue started occurring. But to my knowledge that shouldn't cause an infinite boot loop across multiple install disks.

About a month ago my one year old PC started to to reboot with no error displayed under load as if it was overheating. I made sure it was not overheating and updated the drivers but the problem kept getting worse. Now I can barely even get to BIOS let alone Windows. I have reduced the entire PC to just the PSU, motherboard, CPU and one stick of RAM. Nothing is connected besides these and a CPU fan, not even front I/O, but the problem persists. At most it can idle in BIOS for 20 minutes or I manage to get into windows for about 3 minutes, then it turns off and gets stuck in a reboot loop. These being: Gigabyte Z170-HD3P i5-6600k (with Cooler Master hyper 212x) HyperX Savage 4GB 2133Hz EVGA Supernova 550 G2 I have tried many things including: -scanning for malware and removing it -Windows recovery -Check Disk shows no error -Windows Memory Diagnostic shows no error -sfc scannow shows no error -updating BIOS (problem persisted on both the previous F4 and the newest F22g version) -clearing the CMOS -reseating everything including CPU and its cooler -tried both RAM sticks in every slot individually -cooling the southbridge as I noticed it gets much hotter than anything else while idling in BIOS -visually checked every component and cable but did not find any issue -checked components for overheating while running -tested the PSU, power cord and the outlet with a multimeter (good results) -tried different power outlets I dont know what to do anymore. No suspicious noises or smells. I have never overclocked anything. Voltages for RAM and CPU are correct. Temps sit at 27-30 degree Celsius. The last thing I can think of is getting an internal PC speaker to reveal the culprit, but so far I have difficulties even finding any for sale that ship to my country. Any ideas? Thank you.

Hey guys, Yesterday I tried to turn on my pc after been shutdown for the night (like normal) and I was stuck in a boot loop. However, the interesting thing is that loops after posting, I can enter the bios and change settings without any issues. However, as soon as it tries to boot the os, the system instantly turns off and restarts after a couple of seconds. I have left it for at least 10 minutes and it continued to loop, and only stops after I flick the switch on the psu. One abnormally I have noticed is when I turn it on the first time (after turning it off at the psu), it takes around 5 seconds longer than normal before posting, subsequent posts take a normal length of time. (I don't know if this is just because it is running a self diagnosis after noticing it had been shut down abnormally (by the psu switch) or if this could be linked) Additionally, I updates the bios to the latest version approx. a week ago and it worked was working fine up until this. (I'm a little scared to try updating the bios to the previous version in case it has a freakout part way through) In the past I have had occasional issues with it boot looping where it would fail to post but I would always start up after a couple of restarts. Given this issue is after it has posted I am assuming it is unrelated however who knows. Troubleshooting so far: Reseated ram, graphics card (and power cables) and ssd and hhd cables Reset cmos Removed unnecessary usb peripherals Unplugged case lighting Changed boot order and tried manually selecting boot drive Tried booting to a Windows 10 install usb (same as above, instanly crashes when selecting the drive. Initial reason for this was because I suspected that there may be an issues with Windows being corrupted) System specs here: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/CrazyCoconut/saved/RJLZxr Thanks in advance guys, this has got my perplexed, CrazyCoconut
