So I just started learning blender and when using cycles engine for rendering, nothing renders with gpu but switching to cpu let’s it work. My gpu can render much faster then my cpu so I would prefer to use that. I have a 1660ti so I know blender can use CUDA and stuff and I even enabled it in preferences but nothing seems to work

Blender: Strange motion tracking jitter?
Mr Technician posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
Let me start by saying that I had a successful camera track and solve of some footage I had prepared in blender with a large number of highly visible tracking points. The majority of the tracking points remained throughout the entire shot and checking individual tracks in the track preview window showed that the trackers stayed properly centered on each point. I was working on setting up my scene and decided to call it a night, but I ended up opening blender again a few minutes later. To my confusion, there was a very noticeable jitter in the track and I could see my model sliding around the footage, whereas before I closed the software the model was locked to the footage. I checked through each point and saw that each and every point lost the track at the exact same time and in the exact same way (the track "slipped" in the same directions for each). This surprised me as each of the tracks had been successfully locked to their respective tracking points before. I had not locked the points so I assumed something had caused them all to shift, so I cleared the tracks and started over. Everything was fine until this morning, when I opened Blender and found that each of my LOCKED points had "jittered" at the exact same times and in the exact same ways, ruining the track again. I'm really at a loss for what to do here. Update: I've played around with this further and it appears to be an issue with switching from the motion tracking view to the default view. Even if I apply the camera solver constraint while in the motion tracking view, creating actual keyframes for the camera position, it will still ruin the track when I switch back to the default mode. Update 2: The issue appears to be an issue with a mismatched background video file that starts at a different time than the track. -
Hi guys, Last month I upgraded my old i5 to a new Ryzen 5 2600 and these last fews days I wanted to overclock my cpu to 4.0 Ghz. So I tried today and I'm encountering a "bug". So, for the OC, I set my CPU Ratio to 40.00 and Voltage to 1.4250v because I crashed every single time in Blender BMW render "benchmark". Some time the screen went black and Blender would close after fews minutes and I would be back on the desktop and some times it would freeze and I would not be able to move my cursor and have to hit the reboot button on the case. The thing is, I did not crash on Cinebench R15 even with lower voltage, and running the benchmark 3/4 times in a row. I wasn't sure if it was because of the voltage that I would crash so I set everything back to default in the bios. CPU ratio to 34, voltage on auto and RAM to 2133mhz with d.o.c.p disable. Tried to run the Blender BMW "benchmark" and... it still crash. Do you guys have any idea what could cause the crash? Bad chip ? Bad RAM ? Something wrong with the version of Blender that I have (Blender 2.79b x64) ? For now I've set my bios to "performance" mode and enable D.O.C.P and everything is running fine in games and Cinebench. (CPU is boosting up to 3.85ghz on all cores with 1.28/1.29~v according to HWMonitor) I don't think it is temp related since the cpu did not go over 81°c after multiple cinebench runs, and during Blender render. It's +30°C in my room that's why temperature are a bit high. (that was with 1.4250v) English isn't my mother tongue so I hope I've been clear enough, also sorry for the mistakes. Thank for reading. My specs : CPU : Ryzen 5 2600 Motherboard : Asus X470 F-Gaming Cooler : Be Quiet! Pure Rock RAM : G.Skill F4-3200C16D-16GVGB GPU : GTX 980 Windforce OC PSU : EVGA 650 GQ OS : Windows 10 fully up-to-date

Hello! I'm currently looking for some advice on some good 3D Animation, and Video editing laptops that I could use in college. Obviously a laptop is in no way ideal for this, but with a college dorm and traveling, you don't have much of a choice. All the uses will be: 3D Animation and modeling using Blender, video editing with premiere and possibly other programs, recording gameplay at 1080p 60fps, and many other things. My budget for this will be anywhere from $1,000-1,600. Cheaper is obviously better for college, but I need quality over anything else. Here is what I've found to be the best so far, but feel free to nit pick it, and recommend better. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-15-6-laptop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-1tb-hard-drive-256gb-solid-state-drive-aluminum-black/6211744.p?skuId=6211744 I hope you guys can help out, and that I gave enough information!

Hi! I'm a complete noob when it comes to camera. So basically, I know nothing. All I need is a simple camera without too many functions, easy to use, and that takes good pictures. I will mainly using it to take photos on a tripod of objects which I will use for modeling and texturing in Blender. It would be better if the camera can take clear high resolution photos, like 4096x4096. I'm ready to spend 400-500$ on it. What are your suggestions?

Many of peoply saying that rx 580 is slightly better for rendering than 1060 But what about Blender? I'm stuck between these two GPU's. Amd bas 2gb of extra vram that's a good thing but what about fast rendering? Which one (cuda 1060,opencl 580) can render fast for blender?

Hi everyone First off, I'm not sure if this is the right thread so if not, please move or delete this topic. Blender doesn't seem to recognize my amd hd 7950, I know that the latest update ditched gcn 1.0 so I installed 2.78 which reportedly does support my gpu. When I select my gpu (not sure when it's selected, the light gray or dark gray) It doesn't change anything, while rendering fluid my gpu doesn't do a single thing. Am I doing something wrong? Please help me. Jan

my current rig has: i5-7500 / Gtx 1050ti mini / 16 gigs of ram. I'm curious about whether or not i would see any noticeable performance increase if i switched to a cheap ass workstation card like the Radeon Pro wx 2100 (or comparable nvidia card). my assumption is that a 3100 should definitely give better performance (i would hope so anyway ) but would a 35 watt card built specifically for content creation beat a gaming card with double the ram and a bit more raw horse power?

Basically I had Blender open, along with some YouTube and other pages in the background. All of a sudden the screen goes black and all I could notice were some brown lines in the corner. This image I found sort-of describes it, except they were possibly horizontal and definitely not covering the whole display. The thing is, it happened so fast, you could barely notice it. I'm sure it didn't last a second. Nothing crashed, YouTube didn't even seem to cut off the audio. Everything came back as sudden as it went dark. Blender seemed to be more zoomed in than before, but maybe I was in the middle of doing that anyway. By now I've looked through the components for any visual damage, particularly capacitors, but everything I could see seemed fine. Although looking at the 390 PCB now, there are quite a bit more of them than the single line you can see through the heat sink. Still, am I right in thinking that even a single bad capacitor would be noticeable via more constant symptoms? So far putting on some load with Far Cry 3 shows no issues. Took out my PSU for a closer look as a cap seemed suspect, but it appeared to be the same yellow-green dab of paint that the all the others are marked with, just a bit thicker in the crease. Also checked if everything's seated nicely too. Anything else worth checking? Things to look for in case it happens again? What are the chances this was a software glitch and not a hardware issue? Any similar, known issues with this combo or any separate piece of software? Just really not liking the idea of having hardware failure in this 'still kinda new, but old enough to be out of warranty' stage of ownership. The probably relevant stuff: Sapphire R9 390 NITRO / Driver version - 18.2.2 i5 4460 ASRock H97M PRO4 Seasonic M12II-620 EVO Rest is in my profile.

I want to use this system for blender and a little gaming. On a budget. Motherboard: Intel p/n CPU-s5000sl CPUs: Intel Xeon X5450 (2) RAM: 32gb ECC PSU: Seasonic S12II 620 BRONZE CPU cooler: Intel LGA771 cooler (2) Case: CHENBRO SR10569-CO Graphics Card: whatever i can get used for under $100 1. Does this even have a chance of working 2. What problems can I expect with this build, if it even works 3. Alternatives?

Hello everyone, I am getting into blender and password cracking and I also do video. I only have a sp4 i5 8gb 256gb laptop with no discrete GPU. I have some 1u servers in my garage that I use for video rendering and blender rendering, but the one I use is a core 2 duo, so not the fastest. It has a single slot and no power connectors for a GPU with a 260-watt PSU. What would be a good graphics card to fit in there, I don't mind using sata to PCIe power adapters, but it obviously has to fit in the power budget with the rest of the system. It has to be a single slot GPU and cant have a double slot heatsink even if the slot cover is one slot. there is moderately good airflow through the system so that's not a biggie. Thanks in advance, The_Audtior

Alright so after seeing the Blender performance with Intel Optane in the latest Ltt upload, I was wondering if it would be possible to do this with my Ryzen 7 1700x build. Because of the high polymodels I create within Blender eats up my 16gb of 3066mhz of ddr4 when working on the models and rendering. So I would like to know if it is even possible to use Optane in the way shown on x370 or if it would be better to get an Nvme drive to use as a ramdisk...

Hey, So about 10-15 years ago I used to like to mess around with 3D modelling using an old cracked copy of Lightwave 3D. I wouldn't mind getting back into it. So I was wondering if anyone on here could tell me how Blender compares to other 3D creation apps now? And would it be a difficult adjustment for me to make coming from LW? Is it pretty functional out of the box or would I need to spend hours fishing for plug-in settings? Thanks

Hi everyone, I was hoping to get some help with picking a new laptop. What I'm looking for is the best laptop i can buy for under $1500 that can handle medium to heavy workloads using programs like AutoCAD, Blender and the full Adobe Suite. I know most people would just recommend desk workstation but I work for a nonprofit disaster relief organization and travel too much for that to be of any use to me. I have no problem with upgrading a laptop so if someone knows a good laptop to just upgrade parts in to be the best for what I need I'd be open to that as well. the price needs to stay under $1500, don't make much working for nonprofits =). However, if there is an absolute perfect option for what I need that might be a slightly more then $1500 go ahead and list it. thanks ahead of time for recommendations.

Planning Help for $2,000 Creative Workstation Build for Blender
Guest posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Situation Overview I currently own a Lenovo Y410P "Gaming" Laptop and I am considering up grading to a desktop workstation or to a used Wacom Mobile Studio Pro 16". My laptop can run blender with it's current specs. (GeForce GT 755M, Intel Core i7-4700MQ Processor 6M Cache 4 Cores and 8 Threads, up to 3.40 GHz, 8GB of DDR3L SDRAM w/ 1600 MHz memory speeds, but I am kind of tired of it. I could just get new peripherals like a mouse, key board, and new monitor. My current mouse is the Logitech G300S, my laptop keyboard has the "W" cap broken off, and the monitor of the y410p is 1600 x 900 and has terrible viewing angles and color accuracy. My question is should I just upgrade completely or hold on to my laptop and get new peripherals or just buy a prebuilt system? Programs I would like to use... Blender 2.8 (3D Modeling Program, the most computer intense program of the three.) Krita (Open source Photoshop clone) OpenToonz (2D Animation Program) My Main Computer Criteria Are... Color Accurate Monitor with at least a 1080 x 1920 resolution for 3D model creation, photo editing, and digital painting. Quality Mechanical Keyboard and Mouse Combo. (NO RGB) Blender "Optimal" Production Grade Hardware 64-bit eight core CPU 16 GB RAM Two full HD displays with 24 bit color Three button mouse and graphics tablet Dual OpenGL 3.2 compatible graphics cards with 4 GB RAM I don't think I will be able hit the "Optimal Hardware" for blender with my budget once you add in peripherals, but I would like to hit somewhere in the middle range of performance between "Optimal" and my current computer. I feel like I should try to shoot for... Realistic Computer Stats 64-bit six core CPU 16 GB RAM (or maybe 8GB RAM) One full HD display with 24 bit color Three button mouse and graphics tablet One OpenGL 3.2 compatible graphics cards with 4 GB RAM Questions My question is which CPU & GPU manufactures are best for the programs I want to run. What advantages are there in the Intel CPU ecosystem as opposed to the AMD Ryzen ecosystem? (Ex: Intel CPU's support Thunderbolt) What advantages are there in the NVidia GPU ecosystem as opposed to the AMD Vega ecosystem? (Ex: NVidia G-Sync) If you have any questions for me such as needing more information about my current setup or desired PC workstation qualities feel free to ask away. Thank you for your time. - LXXVII Fold P.S. DEW U NO DE WAY? (to build a $2,000 Blender focused PC workstation?) -
1. Budget & Location £UK (shitty as it is) although if it has to be Ill make do with $USD and have to swallow an additional 20% vat tax to the price if its only in the US. (although if its available in Europe/Asia I might have an option to buying them). Currently I have a budget of £1500 for everything else after the graphics card. 2. Aim Rendering rig/Streaming rig and part time gaming rig too 3. Monitors No need for now as I have a projector and will be using VR headsets often 4. Peripherals VR rig and a good camera and microphone I've tried Vive and Windows MR headsets, haven't had a chance with Oculus yet, and with the new ones on the horizon I'm holding out till maybe the pimax. 5. Why are you upgrading? Haven't had a new rig in over 5 years and my current laptop just cant handle the level of rendering I need. Pus I want to give streaming a try. 6.Whats not needed? I already bought a nice GPU (Radeon Pro Duo with plans for an additional 1080ti once gpus finally calm down) and I plan to buy a AMD - Threadripper 1950X 3.4GHz once I get back to the UK. I however way behind on which things like motherboards, cooling, power and even cases. I tried pcpicker but I'm reading problems with certain motherboards to the cpu, I'm not fussed on rgb lighting as Ill be mainly focusing on noise reduction and cooling. So I hope that covers most of the requirements for the forum, anyone have something similar built already or planning to?

Hey People of the PC Community... I've finally accumulated the right amount of money to buy a PC Now comes the time to decide if I go team Intel or team AMD Here are the 2 Potential Builds: AMD - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rPWdNN Intel - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CR8kkT I would like my build to be able to run Games at 1080p on very high settings at 60FPS+, and to have decent render times for projects that involve Premiere Pro, After Effects and a bit of 3d Modelling and Animation Please leave any suggestions to how to improve the builds while keeping them as below $800 as possible. Mention any issues I might run into, but ultimately tell me which build is more Worth it. Also, I have taken into account that the Ryzen build is easier to upgrade, but I think I will probably upgrade GPU's before CPU

So my current $600 laptop is wrapping up its life and I need a new PC. It has served me well for Blender so I figure for Blender I won't need a beefy system if I just get a Ryzen 5 1600 which is a very good CPU for the money, however in recent days I want to learn UE4/C++ and be able to play with friends with some games (like Ark Survival and CS:GO). The problem is I don't have much money so I need to get the best performance for dollar as I can and planned this build here https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vHx3qk each part has been chosen from previous questions I have asked and such but now I want to lower the budget more. I want to know if I should use the 1050 instead of 1050ti. After googling it there seems to be around a 13% increase in performance and a 20% increase in price from the 1050 and I don't plan on using the GPU permanently and plan on getting a 1060 6gb in the next 6-8 months after purchase (unless a better budget card comes out). So I want to know is it worth getting the 1050ti or should I get the 1050 instead and if you have any other suggestions on the rest of the build please let me know. I would like to lower the price as much as possible and not increase it please thank you! Also some case suggestions with a window, good cable management, USB 3.0, and good cooling are welcome. Thanks!
