I just bought my first Apple device, an iPhone, and set it up the day before yesterday. while creating my apple id I used my personal phone number as my apple id and created my account with that. Now, I got to know that everyone creates a @icloud email for their apple ids and only a few countries have the option of creating the apple id as a phone number (India and Mainland China). ref: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207944 will I be missing out on any features by creating my apple id as my phone number? can I change the apple id of my account from a phone number to a icloud email now? I live in India just so it's needed.

On Friday I lost my old airpods so without thinking I ordered the Airpod Pros Gen 2's. Did I make a mistake? I haven't used them much yet but so far the noise cancelation is really impressive.

I have the problem of overthinking and anxiety. I dropped my MacBook Pro type c cable. I didn't see it touch the ground but heard the sound of it touching the ground. I don't know if it was the plastic end that touched it or the exposed metal charging point. I'm scared it was the latter and now the pins could be damaged and it might get shorted and destroy my MacBook during charging. Drop was from around 5ft height. What are the chances that the pins are now damaged and will cause a short circuit and destroy my MacBook in the future. It still charges the Mac. It is a 2m C to C cable Thanks for giving me your valuable time

Hi all, I am looking to upgrade the storage in my 2012 Mac mini. I am going to be using it in a strange project that I am working on and I need them to be relatively reliable. I only need 500GB drives. I was thinking about getting the Western Digital SA500 but they are relatively expensive for only 500GB drives. I was also looking at the Crucial MX500 but people have been reporting a high failure rate of the drives prematurely. These machines will be spending a relatively long amount of time on each day, but will shut down each night. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks

Hi all, I am planning on doing an upgrade to some mac minis that I am planning on using in a cluster. The memory on them needs to be upgraded and I am just wondering what brand of memory to use. I have been doing some research and found that most people recommended Crucial for their reliability, however, they are pretty expensive. I saw on amazon there was a kit from a brand called TimeTec, but I have not heard about them before. Does anyone know how reliable this brand is or who is their chip manufacturer? Thank you for any feedback

I got a 2018 MacBook Air that has been suffering from Kernel panics after it was dropped fairly bad. It will function for about 5mins or so before shutting down completely. I tried just doing a complete factory reset and loaded a new OS from a known good boot drive but no dice. To my knowledge Kernel panics are eaters: Logic Board, Ram, or Hard Drive. The 2018 MacBook does not have a removable Ram or Hard Drive so I went nuclear and got a new Logic Board. The logic board was the same exact everything as the old one, including the Kernel panic issue. After more research, I discovered that on older Macs the battery was sometimes the cause. After testing I now know that the battery is not it. Now my question is, What could be causing this these crashes?! Can any part in a computer cause a Kernel panic? I thought that they only happened with data transfer and resource management that would only happen with the hard drive, ram, and sometimes the logic board. Is that Not the case? The Kernel panic says, " cpu 1 caller 0xfffffff0191d3578" and, "Kernel Version: Darwin Version 22.1.0" I can provide any more information if need. Thank you for your help if you chose to do so.

Hi, my sister's macbook air 2013 died and i was not able to save it. But i was able to get an adapter for the SSD that Apple uses. Now the issue is, am not able to read it. I can see it in diskmanagment and also windows 11 gui for Disk and volumes. I tried with to read it with a "apfs" software called "Mac Drive 10 Pro", but was not recognized . and with ¨"HFSExplorer" i got the error: Not a HFS type drive / wrong type. The disk is not encrypted and if windows is not lying its a Fat32 system, but then i should be ale to read it correct ? Also the disk does not show up in normal windows explorer at all, only in bios and disk utility. Does any one have a suggestion ? The easy was is ofc to format it, and it would work fine, but i wanted to get the data from it first, since my sister for some reason did not have important documents backed up / in cloud

Summary A vulnerability found last week that was originally thought to only affect the Linux and BSD operating systems is now believed to impact macOS as well. Quotes My thoughts I hope Apple patches this vulnerability soon. As a user of both Mac and Linux, yea I kinda panicked (y? I have no idea). But in all seriousness, this needs to be patched and they literally had a security update just this last week. A recent article suggests that an Apple mixed reality headset would be the Macbook Pro of VR devices, and it would sell for a very high price, precisely 3000 dollars, due to the presence of two 8K displays. Quotes My Opinion Personally I can't see the need for any person to buy this product, however that doesn't mean there might not be people interested in it, the first example that comes to mind are those programmers who want to try their games or applications at the maximum graphic and visual potential. In conclusion for me it is a product for professionals belonging to a small niche of people who need the specifics of the product and are willing to spend a lot of money on it. Summary Apple redirects Google Safe Browsing traffic through its own proxy servers to prevent disclosing users’ IP addresses to Google in iOS 14.5 Apple’s privacy push is much more widespread than it seems at the surface. A perfect example is the new privacy feature in iOS 14.5 Beta 1 (V2) which redirects Google Safe Browsing traffic through Apple’s own proxy servers to enhance users’ privacy and to not let Google see your IP address. Quotes My thoughts Well, if this increases user’s privacy I’m all for it. Apple already has my ip, among other private information, and preventing third parties for getting that info is good, I recon. How would Google take this “intervention” will definitely be interesting Sources https://the8-bit.com/apple-proxies-google-safe-browsing-privacy/

Rant time: Tarrifs suck an ROG Strix 24GB GeForce RTX 3070 was $500 and now its's $780. I COULD BUILD AN ENTIRE COMPUTER FOR THAT MONEY. It sucks trying to build a computer that you want to do anything remotely intense like video/audio editing. On top of that...the stocking issues! When the new Nvidia 3000 series and the new AMD Radeon GPUs go in to stock they're sold out in mere minutes because of scalpers and bots scooping them all up and selling them on ebay and Craigslist for like $400 dollars more than the stock price on top of the price bump because of the tarrifs. I could barely get a GT 730 GPU off of eBay which came out in 2014 and isn't even supported on the latest Nvidia GPU drivers anymore. Honestly it's really really annoying and stupid. On another note: Apple...why are you taking the charger out of the box when you're going to give everyone a cable that only iPad Pro/Air and iPhone 11 Pro owners can use? it’s going to make more package waste than just including one in the box cause if you don't have one you have to order one. if you really wanted to "save the environment" you should've moved the iPhones charging port to USB-C and included a USB-C wall brick and a USB-C to USB-C cable and THEN just include the cable in the next one. That way most Phones have the same charging port and connector and boom less waste cause everything uses the same port and you don't have to go buy a new cable with a proprietary port. there. Solved your problem. Also Samsung stop mocking apple for stuff they do when you know damn well you're gonna do it too. It just makes you look childish and silly. Facebook is under heat from me too. You need to grow up. I get that user data and ads is how you make money and how a lot of other apps make money but when apple decides to make things more transparent with whats going on with their iphones you have no right to complain Because when you do it makes you look like the bad guy. you need to become more transparent with what data you're taking and selling and just because you lose money from not having user data to sell you will make it up else where like with oculus. Okay I'm done ranting.

My grandmother has had the original iphone se for 4 years years (got it in 2017). She is on the latest version of ios she wishes to be tracked by/track my grandfather (who uses a galaxy s8), peace of mind thing. The issue is that she cannot be tracked through google maps location share because the app keeps going to sleep, even though during the share location setup it prompted me to remove battery optimization (or whatever apple calls it, i'm an android guy) for google maps. Does anyone know why this is and/or have a solution? As i previously mentioned, I am an android user and have been since 2014, the last time I daily drove an iphone was 3 years ago when I daily drove an iphone 5 while my huawei got repaired (btw, do not recommend huawei, their software is atrocious, since upgraded to a samsung phone which is great), so I am very rusty in iOS Thx in advanced

There was a small incident. I bought the recently released MacBook Air on M1 by first googling whether it supports Microsoft's office. I saw that there is an office and everything is fine, but only after a while I realized that this office is stripped down, there are only basic things like PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc. I understand that there was never Microsoft Access on the Mac, it is exclusively on Windows and it is not a problem for me to download parallels and install Windows on it and I will run access through it, but the question torments me and I just can't find the answer. Of course, an ARM chip needs a Windows that works on the arm architecture, and yes, there is one, but does the Microsoft Access work on it?

Summary NOTE: This is a Rumor, not confirmed by Apple. Everything here should be taken with a grain of salt. A new small Mac Pro with Apple Silicon will come out and the redesigned iMac will have colors. The small Mac Pro looks like "3 to 4 Mac Mini stacked on top of each other" and apparentally looks like the PowerMac G4 Cube. The iMac will have a redesign that is similar to an iPad Pro and the Pro Display XDR, and comes with "fun" colors. The IO and it's location is unknown. Quotes My thoughts As with all leaks, this one might not be accurate. To me personally, I think this would be a pretty logical move of Apple. The small Mac Pro was pretty interesting to me, since it would probably be cheaper than the current Mac Pro, and it seems like it's the same design idea as the 2013 Mac Pro. Small and premium looking. With the iMac, I was genuinally suprised that Apple would add colors to the iMac, but I guess it's targeted on the younger people market. Anyways, any Apple news are exiting, since when Apple releases this creature we may finally see other companies finally get high performance ARM processors into powerful laptops and desktops. Sources

So I ended up with a 2011 Mac Mini "Server" Core i7 2.0GHz, 750GB HDD, 128GB SSD, 16GB RAM. I was having some OSX issues out of the box, like it not recognising the Admin password in some parts of system preferences etc, small things.. Then it got stuck in an endless boot loop, which was frustrating. Managed to reset the PRAM & NVRAM & then nothing. Managed to get it into recovery mode so I could reinstalled OSX, it was offering Lion, that was fine, then it gave me the error "not all components could be downloaded" okay, so i'll just create a bootable copy of OSX like I have done in the past. This is where I run into issues, so the latest version of OSX I can run on this is High Sierra, no problems, i'll just get a USB drive & get the installer from Apple, nope, it doesn't exist in the Mac AppStore any more. Okay, my next step was to get the .DMG from Apple of High Sierra & create a bootable via terminal, that didn't work either. Now I have managed to create a bootabale USB drive from inside Windows, but whilst it is recognised on my MacBook Air, it's not recognised by the Mac Mini when I try & use it to boot from at start up by holding down option, and I can't get it to boot from it on my MacBook Air so I can install it on an external SSD, i've run out of ideas on how to get OSX back on this Mac Mini. I've run out of ideas. All I want to do is install High Sierra onto this damn thing so I can use it, it shouldn't be difficult but it turning out to be...

This is going to be a short post. I honestly think that instead of craving to pressure and new regulations, Apple will maintain that it's Lightning connector is the only acceptable one. In places where they will be required due to new regulations, they will probably put a USB-C to lightning connector in the box, then maybe include a lightning cable for good measure. They are going to fight this like the auto industry fought seat belts and air bags - drag it out and make a big fuss over it. What do you guys think? note: I have no idea how these regulations are worded

Hello, I have an Apple iMac (Late 2015, Core i5 5575R, 8GB DDR3 Ram and 1TB Hard Drive), it is feeling too slow for me to use it as my daily driver, and the screen also flickers all the time, it goes black and it comes back to life in a second, I don't know what to do now as this is my first Apple Computer, it is so slow that if i CMD A and type something at the same time it will get the rainbow spinning wheel and it will take 6-7 seconds to process what i did and show on the screen, any recommendations and help are welcome. Thank You.

Hello i am gonna need to buy Macbook as a Xamarin developer that needs also way to develop for iOS. I am still choosing between Macbook Air M1 and Macbook Pro M1 (Probably gonna end up buying the Pro because of the better lasting battery). But my main question is about RAM. Does the 8GB vs 16GB makes a big difference ? I am using my windows pc with 16GB ram and my laptop with 12 GB. Should i opt for 16GB or will the 8GB do the job ? Thanks for advices.
