So I have a 7700k coming in the mail tomorrow, and I wanted to do an all air build with it, as I've never owned one. But I also wanted to hit 5GHz (silicone lottery permitting). As much as I have heard good things about the Noctua NH-U14S, I seriously doubt its ability to (safely) achieve that 5GHz OC.

So nooby question and I am looking for some peace of mind. I am testing out my 7700k and I curious about my temps. I come from an i5 that ran just a basic MSI boost from there bios on an evo 212 cooler. I have read that the 7700k run a bit on the warmer side. I am using Handbrake encoding to test (maybe not the best test) ambient temp ares around 28 to 30 C I installed the new kraken x52 AIO I have an Asus z270e board and when i have the optimization set to normal bios, run an encode, temps go from ambient to 64 to 67 C When I set the optimization to performance in the bios, then run an encode, temps go from ambient to 80 to 82 C almost instantly i know that cpu temps going over 80 are not recommended, but is that safe? Could it be a voltage issue with the auto performance adjusting? I have the kraken cooler set to performance mode but i never see the fan speed go above 50 percent or the pump rpm to go over 2200.... I am new to water cooling but I just figured the temps would be better than that... I have made sure i seated the cooler right. I even took it apart and reapplied thermal past to be 100% positive. Could it be the CAM software isn't very accurate? Any insight is appreciated!!!

so I oc my 7700k and my friend thinks my temps are running to high i do have it it water cooled with a h110I cooler and silent wing fans. the max tempature was gained by running forza horizon for pc which seems very poorly ported from xbox.

My Budget is very limited but i want to Upgrade my PC. 1. Budget & Location I'm from Germany and have about 500€ that i can spend for sure. The currency is €. 2. Aim I'm playing games like GTA V and Overwatch, sometimes CS:GO. Planning to buy Battlefield in near future 3. Monitors Using two Monitors all the time. One is Full HD and the other one 1024*768. Would like to connect my TV but I'm to lazy to buy a long enough HDMI-Cable. Maybe upgrading to 2* Full HD. 4. Peripherals No Peripherals needed. 5. Why are you upgrading? I think my CPU is to slow. This should be the main problem but I need a new HDD or SSD because my current HDD is already full since 2 years and I can't figure out which files I should delete anymore. Diagnosis: GTA V running at lowest settings: Still lags and Maploading issues. I think the GPU is fine. Overwatch same: No significant drop in framerate if i put up the graphic settings. CS:GO is hard to tell. Most time stable, sometimes framerate drops to like 5 FPS. Sometimes even when browsing the web with firefox or chrome i have slight performance issues. Watching Youtube-Videos at FHD-60FPS pushs the CPU in Task-Manager to 98-99% but works with one or two bigger lags in 10 minutes. Would like to record my Gameplay as well. Some friends of mine are making great Youtube-Videos and I would like to go along as I did like 5 years ago, when Youtube was really small. Trying to use Premiere or free Software like Hitfilm 4 Express and cutting FHD footage is a headache. I know my GPU is like very low end today but i just bought it for 40€ from a friend of mine who build an awesome 1600€ machine a month ago. I would like to link his build log on Youtube but its German so You will never see it. My diagnosis tells me that my current bottleneck is my CPU. Upgrading it to an 7700K would be really expensive: Processor + Mainboard + DDR4 Ram + Power Supply + new Case (because my old is microATX or miniATX... i dont know the correct name) would be round about 700€. Any Suggestions? Edit: I know my English is pretty basic, but still I hope you can understand my problems.

Hey all, I've been looking at parts for a new rig. I looked on pcpartpicker to see if all of my bits are compatible and it told me this: " Some Intel Z170 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Kaby Lake-S CPUs " I have chosen for my mobo the MSI Z170A SLI Plus LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard and my processor is the Intel i7 7700K. *I AM WILLING TO CHANGE THE MOTHERBOARD FOR SOMETHING OF A SIMILAR PRICE POINT, BUT NOT THE CPU* Does anyone know if this will be a problem with these particular components, and if so how to avoid the problem? Cheers, Ivan

Hey Guys! I wanted to get your expertise on whether I'm understanding the allocation of PCIE lanes w/ my new setup. I'm getting a 7700K w/ a mITX board and was wondering whether the 16x video card slot will downgrade to 8x if I install a 4x m.2 drive. From what I understand about the other post on the forums & Linus's video relevant to this is that I won't even notice a difference in performance even if the video card does? Also about the Z170 and Z270 having it's own southbridge lanes, but isn't the point of the 16 CPU lanes meant to have a faster/more direct link to the CPU? So does the video card and/or the m.2 use the CPU or southbridge lanes and does it matter? Thanks!

A few days ago I upgraded to z270 and 7700k from z170 with 6700k (ik thats not worth the performance gain), and I was experiencing really bad temp from there idk if it is the mobo or the 7700k. I am using the nzxt x52 aio. 37-40C idle, 70-75 during cinebench for stock and temps are gonna fly for a 1.3v OC, 90-100C underload (not even aida 64). Then I delidded my cpu (well the first time ever done this) and replaced it with mx4 (liquid metal still on the way). OH forgot to mention the temps above are after delidedding, B4 that the temps are worth, like over 80C playing overwatch at stock speed at voltage.

I am upgrading my PC which currently is running: i5-3570k 16GB 1866MHz RAM Asus Sabertooth Z77 motherboard GTX 660ti. power supply and hard drives I feel are irrelevant. What I am looking at purchasing is listed here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7yfX3F Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor Corsair H100i v2 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Asus STRIX Z270-E GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-3400 Memory Asus GeForce GTX 1080 8GB STRIX Video Card Cooler Master Storm Trooper ATX Full Tower Case EVGA 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply The case is the one I am already using. I'm planning on reusing it. I am just looking for some advice on possible better value for my money and overall ratings of the build. Thanks to all in advance

So I have been messing around with my 7700K. I seem to have a stable 1.2 VIN for 4.5GHz. However, I cannot seem to get past this barrier, even with 1.3 VIN for 4.7GHz. It only seems to achieve this speed when not under load (with intel speed step turned off). Whenever I run Prime95, the speed drops down to 4.4/4.3GHz or so. Is there something wrong? I am getting 75 celcius or so (with an air cooler) so I don't think temperature is the problem. Any ideas why I'm not getting higher frequencies? Thanks!

Hey I wanted to upgrade to an i7 and I was wondering if putting a 7700k in a z170a motherboard would be a bad thing. Do the new z270 motherboards matter much? My current build is an i5 6600k, msi z170a m5, evga 1070 acx sc, 16gb corsair vengence lpx, and an evga 650w 80+ gold psu.

Hey all, I need some advice. I have an h60 with a stock fan attached to my skylake i7 7700k. The cooler does not cut it, even in case temp of 13c (winter with windows open) the cpu was still getting up to 100c and performance was dipping down to 4000 MHz at the min (not happy...). My cinebench average is 933 normal room temp and cold room testing it was 953. I am a workstation user so cpu performance is a must. I want to be able to overclock. Is this normal or is my H60 unit defective? can I get away with the same cooler and upgrading to a push pull config with EKWB EK-Vardar F4-120ER (2200rpm) White High Static Pressure 120mm Cooling Fan. how much will buying nice thermal paste help? I'm not trying to spend more than $45 dollars fixing this problem... also my stock fan is loud under load (like loud- is that normal too?). thanks!

AMD Ryzen - Leaked Ashes Of The Singularity Benchmarks at 4.0GHz When it comes to benchmarks of benchmarks of the Ryzen CPU's, we have been seeing quite a few of then, the one sketchier than the other. Recently a user by the quite ironical name of "AMD_FanBoy", posted some AOTS benchmarks featuring: Yes! A Ryzen CPU! (what else, right!?) According to wccftech they were posted to the AOTS database, but quickly removed. Luckely for us, someone managed to screenshot it in time! According to this benchmark we are dealing with an 8 core / 16 treaths variant of the Ryzen lineup. If you look at the CPU's suffix in the benchmark we can also see it sais "40/36" which would indicate the CPU is running at a 3.6GHz base and $.0 GHz boost clock as also stated by wccftech in their article. As fot the Benchmark itself, it was ran on "Crazy [4K]" and the settings as shown in the picture below. What's interesting however is that the GPU used here is an NVidia Titan X and not an AMD card. While we can ofcourse never been 100% sure, this means there is a good chance these benchmarks came from a thirth party, possibly a reviewer or AIB. Yes, this could aslo be a play from AMD and we will probably never know for certain, but it is a nice lead and on top of that I really hope AMD doesn't name themselfs "AMD_FanBoy" on the webs (but hey who knows :P). Now These benchmarks look prety decent, right?! Well when I saw this on wccftech I was REALLY interested to see how this would compare to some CPU's from Intel's lineup, and so I set out for an epic journey across Google to find some AOTS benchmarks! This proved slightly more difficult than I hoped, since most AOTS benchmarks on the Intel CPU's were in 1080 which is very understandable. After a good while though I stumbled across what might be the closest comparrison we could get our hands on. It uses the same card (a Titan X), was done on "Crazy [4K]" with almost identical settings. The only exception is that "Half-resolution terrain" was enabled unlike in the Ryzen benchmark. For comparisson I got you guys the benchmarks on the I7 69050 and then for the more game oriented users I also got the 6700K and what it showed kinda supprised me! Sadly I couldnt find $K AOT benchmarks for The 6900k or the 7700k, so if anyone finds them, feel free to link them! (The Intel benchmarks were taken from overclockers.ua) 6950x: 6700k: As you can see from the benchmarks, the 8 Core/16 Treath Ryzen CPU Is holding it's own against Intels 10 core hyperthreaded 6950x. As a matter of fact it is outpreforming this $1500+ CPU (be it barely). Now ofcourse the 6950x is not really a CPU you would get for your next gaming rig, because of its price but mainly also because that is not the main market its aimed at. Still, I thought it was quite a fun fact to mention and with the lack of 6900k benchmarks I thought I'd throw it in here to at least show some comparison to an Intel CPU with a higher core count. Then comes the comparison that I found most interesting and other gamers along with me probably do too: The Ryzen vs the 6700k! Now if we take a look at the graph below we can see the lineup of Ryzen CPU's that leaked out recently, this specific shot taken from Hardwareinfo. So, What we know is we are dealing with an 8 core/16treath Ryzen CPU. The benchmarked one is Clocked at 4GHz boost speed. Well as we can see there is not 1 CPU running 4GHz so it's most likely an overlock, leaving us with the cores and treaths to narrow down the possible CPU's. This means it could be any one starting from the AMD R7 PRO 1700 upto the R7 1800X and according to this that means its ment to compete with at least the 7700 (non k!) and at most the 6900k! But wait? What is this benchmark? The Ryzen CPU we see here is being outpreformed by the 6700k. And looking at the suffix it's running a 4.0GHZ, that is factory clock speeds for the intel vs an OC for the Ryzen! So here we can see that the 6700k is winning with anything a 16.1 all the way upto a 40.9 FPS! Now sure, the Ryzen is running without half resolution terrain on and that could possibly close the gap a little, but that gap is quite significant. On top of that we are comparing a 6700k here and not even the newer 7700k which is one of the CPU's its supposed to compete with according to AMD. To conclude all this I do want to point out that noone can ever be 100% sure about the origin of these images and therefor we can not guarantee that this is how the Ryzen lineup will preform on release. There have been many benchmarks that have been leaked over the past while and some of those show the ryzen CPU's beating the 7700k without too much efford. However I personally find these benchmark quite confincing, partially because of their origin likely not being at AMD themselves as is also mentioned by wccftech on their article. I am curious to see what benchmarks await us once these chips travel to reviewers all over the world for official release and I certainly hope that I'm on the wrong end when I'm thinking AMD may have once again marketed their hardware higher than what it can actually reached. And yes that opinion is partially based of these benchmark but also of past experiences with AMD, so dont weight them too strongly. What do you guys think of this? Do you think these are legit, or do you think they are flawed and AMD will finally bringus something as strong as they keep telling us it is? Regardless these benchmarks show that you can deffinately get away with running 4K games using the Ryzen CPU even if its being beaten by the 6700k, so at the very least if these are legit we are getting a gaming capable CPU out of AMD this year regardless of wether they were telling us the truth or not! Hi, I am looking for some help with adjusting my CPU voltage, So, first off, as I understand - more voltage means more OC'ing capability, but also more heat, is this right? If that is true, I would like to reduce my voltage, as I do not really care about OC'ing and more and temp. At the moment, I have my CPU VCore set to 1.23V, both in the BIOS and Gigabyte Easy Tune, but then when I run prime95 it says my CPU is using like 1.4V, what is that about, and how do I fix it? I have not changed any of the other voltages on my CPU, as I do not know what they do. Thanks

On my 7700k, I was able to reach a max of 5252 MHz at 1.37V stable, but was ridiculously hot. I then opted to go silent by lowering the frequency and voltage down. I am pretty sure I've hit the silicon lottery with a stable OC'd 7700k set to 4.8GHz at 1.120V. I don't have a GPU yet, so I'm using the integrated Intel HD 630, overclocked to a ratio of 28 at 1.4V at 3030MHz. My temps never go above 70C on the CPU, with my fan curve set so my fans never go above 1000 RPM. It is nice and quiet! Have I hit the lottery? Hello All, I've been reading the forums, I'm barely new on building pcs. My current setup is a: I7 3770k 3.8ghz (77max TDP) 16 GB Ram Nvidia GTX 960. Samsung Monitor full HD 1 SSD 128 gb Windows 10 2x HardDisk 500 GB for cache/render and the other for extra storage. I use my computer for video editing (premiere pro), graphic design and photography (heavy photoshop and lightroom) editing and I play a lot Overwatch and The Witcher 3 on my freetime. A family member wants to buy my current system and I think I want to use that money to get a similar system I'm not a hardcore gamer but I'm doing more multimedia and content. I saw the ryzen setup would be interesting because of the multicores but I'm not sure if i should go to the AMD way. Would be worth on get those 1700x? if not I was thinking a new i7 6700k or i7 7700k going from i7 3770k is like 20% and 30% faster so probably I can save some money going with the 6700k. with these two options or ryzen. what motherboard would recommend me? I want to overclock but I would wait a few months to get enough money to buy a good cooler. But I want to have a decent mobo probably not the top of the line. What series of motherboards would be a good choice? Should I get a mobo for the 6700k that can handle later a 7700k or 8700k proof wise? i would plan to edit some 4k footage but not yet. Also what kind of ram i should use for these probably new configurations? edit: This place is awesome, so let's see. It seems it would be better to go for a Ryzen Setup for my needs. The 1700. Budget is $700 I can keep the Nvidia GTX 960 2gb. I would like to stay at least with 16 gb Ram.

Im overclocking my 7700k. Im currently at 4.8ghz at 1.3v and i was wondering what temps are considered safe when im stress testing. Im using AIDA 64. At what temps do i stop?

Here's what I want to do, help me fix anything. IT LOOKS LIKE A LOT BUT ALL I REALLY NEED TO KNOW IS IF THE BUILD I'VE PLANNED IS GOOD, CAN IMPROVE, AND IS WORTH IT OVER WHAT I CAN SLAP TOGETHER (sorry caps) Goal: run 4K at 100fps for 100hz pg348q 34" asus monitor in for honor and others on ultra. build: •reuse level 10gt white full size case •asus Maximus code z270 mobo OR OTHER! (see questions/concerns) • i7-7700k (open to others!) • SLI dual 1080 goal, single 1080 FTW for now (see questions/concerns) • ddr4 16gb 3600 ram • multiple hard drives, see below (questions/concerns) • corsair h80 CPU cooler • corsair 850watt gold psu (6/7 years old but still kicking it!) • hopes and dreams QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS: • I've got an older (700s?) Samsung SSD, a very old, less than 100gb SSD with windows 10, and a 1tb hybrid for now. M.2 soon. Is this a total waste with the new Intel mobo tech for RAM And data swap-page? Should I dive into m.2 right away? • Currently can take the FTW acx3.0 I got in January out of razer core as I'm going desktop. Can buy other brand and still SLI. Just can't go 1080gtx and 1080ti, has to be SLI 1080 gtx for now.... unless I buy a ti and wait to SLI with another.... only founders edition is available now too I think? • re ASUS MAX CODE: is formula worth it if not running open loop? Should I run open loop?). I wish there was a high end WHITE mother board..... • case tech: my tower is old, but will be cleaned up well (it's always been pretty clean, so no issues), it had great airflow for it's time, wondering if new case tech (like all these corsair box setups, or cool looking clear case by TT) is worth the spend? • budget constraints: I've got 810-1000 in store credit to microcenter, depending on what I return.... so..... I can PRETTY MUCH only afford 1400 right now MAX, and would love to keep it at 1000. That means I can only get CPU, RAM, mobo and have them do the swap cause I'm lazy and don't want to be responsible for fucking it up, it's been so long... • is this even worth it? I could just go buy another 1080ftw and run it on what I have with a CPU bottleneck I'm sure. Would it be worth it to go all out yet? See current rigs • would I be better off running the desktop with the 1080gtx and repurposing the laptop for what it should be used for (work)? • DO NOT AMD RYZEN ME, I WONT HAVE IT! Lol current rig(s): •i5-2500k oc'd comfortably at 5ghz, can go quite a bit higher I bet.... • 780gtx EVGA SC or 1080 GTX FTW acx3.0 (it's in a razer core, which I'm giving up on that as a desktop replacement) • 256gb Samsung evo older gen ssd • weird and random LESS THAN 128gb SSD for windows 10 pro only • 32gb (I think, it's been awhile) corsair vengeance ddr3 • asus z77 sabertooth mobo (I loved this thing!) • corsair h80 single fan CPU closed loop "water cooler" • corsair (I think?) 850watt gold power supply • level 10GT snow edition full size TOWA POWA • ASUS ROG STRIX 34" pg348q ultrawide 100hz OC curved beast-of-a-monitor running a GOOD 3ft display port cable or HDMI (booooo) WHAT I'VE BEEN USING razer blade 14" late 2016, 1060 gtx, i7-6700hq, 16gb ram, QHD touch display, coolermaster cooling mat, razer core with 1080 GTX FTW on t3, above monitor, Periphs if curious: all the mech keyboards (I have to pick a favorite, the ASUS claymore I tried was a lemon, replaced with a lemon: x40 das, k95 platinum, k70 speed switches, 68key fun boards, CM rapid fire TK, etc) and an ASUS SPATHA wireless mouse with razer mamba wireless as backup (just fun to share periphs)

I currently have a Z97 system with i7 4790k, works just fine, really fast performance. But I've been having issues with the m.2 support. I had gotten it working by cloning my Samsung SSD fresh install to my m.2 and was able to get it booting from that but last week I uninstalled the SSD and sold it to my friend and now my computer won't boot. I'm guessing it's a boot partition thing. Anyways, as someone who's probably going to go into computer science, computer programming in college, and someone who likes playing around with Adobe software I was thinking of ryzen. Not to mention my first chip was a 6300. What should I do?

So because i'm a dumb ass that dosn't use my brian i thought that buying a i7 7700k with 16 gb corsair ram ddr4 3000 mhz and a asus strix rog mobo combo was a great idea, thus ryzen soon release and now im thinking of returning it? Is ryzen acctually going to be worth the return or? TLDR; Return i7 7700k, get 699 Euro back, buy ryzen Keep i7 7700k

So on newegg.ca the 7700k is on sale for the same price as the 6700k, but i heard becuase it was new, there were still some issues.. so, which one whould i get, dont reccoment me other ones i just want to know, kabylake or skylake, with about the same price. could this be because he was thinking if i had a z170 mobo? i plan on getting a z270h from asus

Hey guys, I am compiling a list of parts for my build with a budget of $1200 approx. I have almost settled on the parts, and just wanted to check if the parts are ok and if anything can be compromised with to reduce costs. And if the selected parts are not the best bang for the buck, please try to suggest recommendations. I am by no means a pro gamer, I play some light games and want to get intro more heavy AAA games. I do a lot of editing in Adobe Creative Cloud 2017 apps like After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop etc. I currently have a BAD HP mouse and random membrane keyboard. So have to include that in the budget. Is delaying the whole build for Ryzen and Vega worth it?
