Hey, I saw an article on notebookcheck.com that was talking about the value of high Refresh monitors. Overall, in some cases the article suggested that in may in a better idea for people who intend to keep hardware for longer and who initially are buying on a budget. The reasoning is that whilst on the day of purchase a gaming rig will be able to play current games at high frames, in 2+years time that hardware may not be able to keep up and you'll have to adjust back to lower frames /refresh. As I am looking to purchase my first gaming rig (laptop) for which opportunities for upgraded will be pretty slim I wanted to ask what this forum thought of this reasoning? https://www.notebookcheck.net/Are-high-refresh-rate-displays-worth-your-money.450053.0.html

Hi, So this morning when I started up my pc and pressed the windows button my screen went black for a few seconds and the resolution changed to 1024x768 60hz, I have no idea why, this has never happened to me before. I was able to set the resolution back to what it was 2560x1440p but when I try to put the hz back to 144 in the nvidia control panel and press apply the screen goes black (as if its trying to set it on 144hz) and then when it comes back on it asks me if I want to keep these settings and when I press yes it changes back to 60hz, does anyone know why this is happening? I am using a display port cable and I've never had this problem before.

Hi, I am wanting to buy a gaming laptop in the range of GB£800 (US$1000). My only requirements are that it's a 60Hz 1080p screen and it's thin-and-light. Could you please point me in the direction of the best laptop in this price range that meets those 2? A good battery life would of course be a top priority, and anything else goes. Thank you!

I am looking to upgrade my monitor setup from a 32" 1080p 60hz tv. I have narrowed down my choice between "LG 27GL850-B 27 Inch Ultragear QHD Nano IPS 1ms" (https://www.amazon.com/LG-27GL83A-B-Ultragear-Compatible-Monitor/dp/B07TD94TQF/ref=sr_1_3?crid=8GZ79QET6V3S&keywords=27%2Binch%2Blg%2Bmonitor&qid=1576438951&s=electronics&sprefix=27%2Binch%2Blg%2B%2Celectronics%2C150&sr=1-3&th=1) and "LG 32UD99-W" (https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-32UD99-W-4k-uhd-led-monitor). Due to work and school I use my computer a lot for productivity and don't have as much time for gaming as I used to. Although I do still play when I have the time. I am torn between having an amazing picture quality or decent picture and high refresh rate. I am running a R5 2600x and a heavily overclocked 980ti, I know I may struggle to run either of these panels, will one be easier to run than the other? Does anyone out there have any experience or advice on either panel? Thanks

I have the acer gn246hl 144hz 1080p 24" display. I recently just upgraded to a new pc and now rocking a rtx 2070 super. earlier in the day i bought a display port to dvi cable to change my monitor to 144hz ( https://imgur.com/gallery/Q1cG3zb?fbclid=IwAR3sWhvUm2uqrFbvg_97y3wVqxIFPNq9qJLXhAn6LW0pvecW-LNW3JpLKkQ ) I tried going through nivida control panel and advanced display settings and it wont let me go above 60hz. When i try changing it through nivida control panel i get a black screen then it says no signal. I tried download the driver but when when i try to install the profile nothing happens. I'm not using an displayport to dvi adpater with the original cable that came with the monitor. but nothing seems to help. When i check device manger my monitor reads as a generic pnp monitor which might be the issue but all the troublesoot methods I've tried through various forums and youtube hasn't solved me issue. With my old rig i had a gtx 970 and for some reason had no issue changing to 144hz it might be that 970 had a dvi port on the gpu? https://imgur.com/gallery/H4NeUsW Can someone please help me fix my issue Ps. Im using the latest nivida drivers and versions of windows

Hi everyone, I desperately need help with my monitor and laptop setup. To start off, I am working with a Surface Pro 3 I5 and intel 4400 graphics. I recently got my hands on a samsung ue590 series which is a 4k display which can run at 4k 60Hz. I got my Surface and monitor connected with an HDMI cable that supports DP1.2, HDMI 2.0 and 4k@60Hz and a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter (The adapter is the official microsoft one which should also work with 60Hz). I got the HDMI cable in the second port of the monitor because that's the one that supprts 4k@60hz (port 1 only support 30Hz). However everything is set up correctly I can only run 4k@30Hz which is kind of dissapointing. When I go to the advanced display settings I cannot choose anything higher then 30Hz, but if I set my resolution to 2560x1440 I can choose 60Hz. I have tried everything I found online and nothing works so far so help would be very much appreciated. Some of the things I've tried: -Download latest monitor drivers, intel drivers and surface updates. -Switch the HDMI port. -Set the monitor to DP1.2.

Hey guys, I'm deciding between these two monitors, I have the budget for either so cost shouldn't be taken into consideration. I run a Titan X Pascal and i7 6700k.Acer Predator XB321HK - 4K/60hz/Gsynchttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A3N60A2/ref=ox_sc_...ORLG 32GK850G-B - 1440p/144hz/Gsynchttps://www.amazon.com/LG-32GK850G-B-Gaming-Monitor-Ref...Both are 32" displays, which I think the 4K would look better at. I don't game as often as I used to, and when I do it's not really much FPS games anymore but more MMO/RPG/RTS games. Even if I do play FPS games I don't play competitively anymore. What do you guys think is the best option? Also, if you think a Titan X Pascal could push good frames at 4K without Gsync then I'm open to that too. I just figured Gsync with 4K is probably a worthwhile investment for when it dips below 60fps?In any case, what do you guys think would be the best option? PS: I should note too that 32" is what I'm sticking with which does limit the options, but I definitely do not want to go 27" and I'm coming away from ultrawide so I don't want that anymore either!

Hi guys! Is there any difference in using an HDMI cable and an DP cable? I will use the AOC 24V2Q monitor in combination with the AMD Ryzen 5 2400G and I do not know if I should choose a cheap motherboard with HDMI video port, or should I buy a expensive motherboard with the DP video port. I want to experience as much as possible, that the monitor offers (60Hz, 1080p, IPS panel). Can I use the full potential with the HDMI cable, or have I to grab more money out of my pocket and buy a motherboard with the Display Port connection? J.

Hey everyone, I have recently built my first PC and am very pleased with it. Basic info: -Ryzen 3 2200g (OC) -Gigabyte Windforce 1060 6GB (OC) I am currently running all games that I play at 1080p, 60+ fps. My monitor is rated at 60hz so I have only been playing at that rate. I did some reading on potentially overclocking the monitor to get closer to 70-75hz but am unsure about my monitor specifically. The manual for the monitor (attached) specifically states a vertical refresh rate of 60hz max at 1080p. But within windows, I can still adjust the refresh rate to up to 72hz (screenshot attached). I have a smaller secondary monitor that states it has a vertical refresh rate of 75hz in the manual, but does not give me any option to change the rate within Windows. Because of this, I am left confused. If Windows let's me adjust the refresh rate, is that a sign that the monitor is capable of overclocking? Thank you in advance, I am quite new at this!

The Blade 15 is quite a nice laptop and the base model with the HDD and the SSD was a nice addition. However, you can only get the 60hz panel for the base model unlike the advanced model which has a sweet 144hz panel. I had seen that Linus did a screen swap with an MSI model to a 120hz panel. I'm curious if that's possible with the Blade 15 just that my only concern is compatibility with the screen frame and that because the bezels are so thin on the sides that a screen may not work or be really expensive. Does anyone know if it's possible to do this and know of any potential screens?

I just got my new gaming laptop and it comes with a 60Hz IPS Panel. I saw some videos about overclocking screens and I thought about overclocking my laptop to 70-75Hz. Now my question are: 1- Is it worth doing it? Will it be THAT better? 2- If it's worth doing it, will the overclock decrease the screen's lifespan? I just got the laptop and I'm a bit scared to overclock it and burn/damage the screen. Thanks

I'm building a gaming PC that will be connected 2x 1440p AOC 25" Monitors at 60hz, I'm wanting to play on medium-max graphics. I've toyed with a 1060 but not sure that could handle it. Would a 1070 be viable or would I have to bump up to a 1080?

I recently purchased a mid ranged pre-built gaming desktop which has the AMD RX 580 (4gb) graphics card. After hearing about FreeSync i ended up finding a fairly cheap Samsung monitor with it (ls24f350fhnxza). A little later I found a monitor that seems to generally be priced more at around the same price as the Samsung, from LG (24mp88hv). It has even thinner bezels, the stand seems nicer, and from what I heard it is of better image quality than the Samsung. The Samsung is still very nice so it's not like the FreeSync is the only thing good about it. I am wondering if the AMD FreeSync is worth not getting a higher quality monitor.

I need help deciding which monitor I should get out of two. They are around the same price. The first option is Samsungs LS24F350FHNXZA. I have an AMD 580 4gb so I would be able to utilize the FreeSync. The next option is LG's 24MP88HV. I am looking for the best image quality/Gaming quality and design. Please leave out the bezel sizes as it doesn't make much difference to me.

As above, is a Asus 1070ti Cerberus enough to run most games at ultra or mid at 60/75hz? Im looking for a 3 monitors setup or 1440p ultrawide (100hz)

I snagged up this Acer ET32QK monitor the other day and it finally arrived tonight. I've been messing around in the Nvidia control panel attempting to get her to 4K, 60Hz at 10bpc, and keep falling flat on my face... Originally, the stock DP cable it came with was having issues with the HDR setting on the monitor, and don't believe I managed to get a 10Bit signal at all with it. Assuming it was a bandwidth issue I decided to give one of my HDMI cables a go, and it worked! However there seems to be a few quirks, and I can't wrap my head around it. A) The color depth for YcBcR422 runs 4k at 60Hz at either, 8,10, or 12 bpc, but RGB appears to run at only either 8 or 12 bpc (at 30Hz....need a new cable I guess...) -Why dose the selection permit me to select either 12bit or 8bit, but not 10bit? Is this not an option? Am I missing something? Is not 12bit greater than 10bit? B) Would anyone be familiar to why the HDR profile on this monitor is greyed out while using DP at all? Seems rather odd...

Hello, I have been looking at these 2 monitors and I can't decide which one to buy. I normally game a lot but often play around with photoshop and premiere pro. 4K 60Hz: https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B01LZ882YU/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_2?smid=A1AT7YVPFBWXBL&psc=1 1080p 144hz: https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B0732TD9GH/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=A1AT7YVPFBWXBL&th=1 If there are any other better options please leave a link to them! I've got a GTX 1070 and I7 7700K.

If I buy a 60Hz monitor and play mafia 3 on it with a gtx 1070ti card, will I get more than 60fps on it? My friend has a 60Hz monitor and he is saying the fps varies from game to game and its all more than 60fps in his 60hz monitor Is that true?

Hey! Was looking to get your thoughts on how future proof the RTX 2070 SUPER will be for ray traced games specific to 1080p 60fps, as of right now, wondering about cyberpunk 2077. Control is one the most beautiful games I've played, and can run flawlessly on 1080p at 60fps with DLSS (only care about 60fps because I have a 60hz monitor.) What're your thoughts for cyberpunk 2077? And what about future rtx based games? Will the RTX 2070 super constantly deliver 60 fps at 1080p with max settings and rtx on? Would love to discuss.

Hi everyone! I've searched quite a lot to find an answer to this question, but I'm not convinced I've found any proper solutions... I'll link my build here for reference: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/imabaldeagle/saved/yxWkTW So the issue I'm having is that my 4k monitor will only run at 30hz instead of 60, as it has for most of the time I've owned it. I recently upgraded my build and replaced 2 of my old monitors (both 1080p, one 60hz, one 144hz) with 3 new ones (all 1080p, 144hz). This leaves me with those 3 monitors as well as my 4k monitor. My assumption is that my current video card, EVGA GTX 1070 8GB FTW, isn't powerful enough to run the 3 1080p 144hz monitors alongside the 4k monitor at 60hz. Instead I've had to run the 4k monitor at 30hz. Unfortunately, until the 3080s become available again, I won't have a more powerful graphics card to test this on. I've already ruled out the cable as the potential issue. I'd just appreciate if someone who knows their stuff can confirm my suspicion or potentially provide me with additional troubleshooting options. Thanks guys Edit: I'd like to note that this is my first post, so please let me know if I didn't provide the right information or if I'm violating any rules by posting this and I'll get it sorted out ASAP. Thanks!

So I played a game at 240Hz for the first time and not only did it feel so much smoother but it felt like there was a lot more motion blur compared to playing it on my old 60Hz screen, where it felt like there was zero motion blur at all. Why is that?
