Hello all! So I'm giving the beast an upgrade. I have 2 grand [+/- 200 dollars.] as a present for graduation that was given to me for the express purpose, of a computer. Now, I already have a pretty killer machine, for one monitor... The issue being, I have three. So, I want to use the money to beef up my computer. Originally, I was going to watercool, but I'd rather have a monster, that is a little noisy, rather than having the same ol' thing, that is quiet. I made a PCPartsPicker list of my ideas, you can give me your feedback (preferably), the parts listed as already purchased, are my current rig, and anything I ignored shouldn't matter, and can be assumed I already own. If you need more information, let me know. Here's the beast. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($319.99 @ Amazon) CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($94.99 @ Newegg) Motherboard: Gigabyte G1.SNIPER 5 EATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($231.50 @ Newegg) Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (Purchased For $0.00) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (Purchased For $0.00) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3GB Video Card (3-Way SLI) (Purchased For $0.00) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3GB Video Card (3-Way SLI) ($553.98 @ Newegg) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3GB Video Card (3-Way SLI) ($553.98 @ Newegg) Power Supply: Corsair 1200W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($299.99 @ Micro Center) Total: $2054.43 (Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.) OK so the money is finally here and to my surprise is more than expected. SO it's time to build the computer... Budget 600-700 American monies Need: MoBo CPU RAM 8GB or more HDD (not an SSD since I have one already) 3TB or more Case Have: Corsair H100i ADD M500 240GB XFX R9 270 RaidMax 535W 80+ Was thinking on a: FX-8350 or i5-4670K MoBo GA-990FXA-UD3 or ......... A Gigabyte most likely but no idea which G.Skill Ripjaw 8GB Fractal R4 w/ Window (I like the side loading harddrive bays, easy access) Will overclock some light gaming (COD4, COD5 Redline *when it comes out*, Battlefield 4, and so on...) Some Adobe suite stuff (photoshop, dreamweaver) Suggestions. best price for bang.. have at it. and thank you all in advance for the input.

Hello all! I'm upgrading my computer, and have a budget of $1000 for the CPU/motherboard. My use case would be Gaming, programming, and video editing in the near future. The specs that matter, and are carrying over are: 2 EVGA 780 Classifieds 850W Thermaltake PSU The entire build will be watercooled. I was thinking about a 4930k for the CPU, is it worth it? If so, what motherboard? If not, what's better? Thanks all for suggestions!

Hello all! So in the near-ish future, I'm looking into buying a new monitor. I was curious though, with the specs I'll have, what can I run? The specs will be a 4670k (overclocked), EVGA 780 Classifieds (x2, overclocked). All of this will be on water, so a pretty decent overclock. What Resolution would I get a comfortable (60fps would be my satisfied point) FPS at? 4k? 3k? 2.5k? 1600p? 1440p? 1080? Okay, so that was for single monitor... What about triple? (Please answer both questions if you can! Single monitor, and multiple)

Situation I'm planning on buying a brand new motherboard and CPU to replace my old 1045t and low end mobo. I don't have a whole lot to spend, up to $110 for the motherboard, and I'll be getting the 4670k along with it. I'd really hope to find a good motherboard for less than $100, but if it's a little over, then that's fine. I'm not looking to get any bigger than the "ATX" size. Requirements 4 RAM Slots Max 16 GB supported Size ATX (Mid, maybe?) or less LGA1150 (Doh) Preferred (But not required), mainly for future upgrades. Crossfire support (Lowest priority out of all of these though) 32 GB Max RAM supported 4+ RAM slots 2133 MHz RAM supported Z87 Good overclocking capabilities Additional Info I'm asking on the forums because although there are a few motherboards I have in mind, the mass amounts of "DOA" and 1-3 egg reviews scare me a little, especially since I don't know a whole lot about motherboards, just a few features.

i5 4670k with h105 running hot - voltages?
minicale posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I recently got a i5 4670k @ stock and a h105 to go with it and some sp120 quiet editions to go with it and it runs at 25C idle and 50C whilst playing bf4 to me this seems high as my friend has a decent cooler and he gets around the same temps which researching further on HWMonior I noticed my cpu is running at 1.216V which I'm sure is not right for stock speeds my mobo is an asrock oc formula z87m so I wonder if either its normal temps or my h105 is playing up or most likely my mobo is running my cpu at higher voltages then it should. -
Hey there! I am sure this post has been reposted over, and over again... But I just can't seem to properly decide whether to go with the 4670k or 4770k. I am going to be gaming (high/ultra gaming at 1080p.. Battlefield 3 and 4, Dota 2, Crysis 2, Assassin's Creed, Titanfall, so on...), doing some little video rendering and editing (not that much), using photoshop Cs5 quite a bit and using various programs such as Visio, Project and Visual Studios. So, that's basically it. If you ask, pretty much I was going for 8gb 9-9-9-24 1600Mhz RAM with GTX 780. Thanks in advance!

Hello there! So my issue goes as follows: Sometimes, not even all the time my GPU fails to be recognized by my AMD driver and system in general (or at least games), however! The display works fine, I can get to anything and the icons are not messed up, resolution is correct and so is scaling. This happens from time to time, not on every start up, rarely even it's more often if I restart PC after a while of usage. Running: I5 4670k @ 3.9ghz, 1.085v 7970 OC by gigabyte, stock OC. 2x4gb kingston hyper X @ 1600mhz. Chieftech A135 series 80plus 750W psu Asus z87- pro board. When this happens often a system shutdown, waiting for a while and then starting the pc solves it. It's still quite annoying, and wonder what could be the cause of it? The PSU does coil whine, or GPU I am not even 100% on that, but that shouldn't be an issue(?).

Sup guys. A friend of mine recently bought all of his parts to put together a gaming PC, and he hasn't built one before. I tell him that it would be a good idea to do an external build just to see if all of his parts are working properly prior to screwing everything in and zip tying all the wires down. His motherboard is the MSI Z87 GA-45, which doesn't have one of those handy power buttons to turn on the motherboard for testing. So I tell him he has to jumper the power switch on the motherboard. I send him a YouTube video on how do it, but no dice. His motherboard just won't turn on for some reason. He has the 24 pin connector in, the 8 pin CPU power connector in, CPU fan header for the Hyper 212 Evo in, the DIMMs in the proper slots, and his GPU is seated properly with the power going to it. Let me know if I'm wrong in saying this, but I'm pretty sure if you give the CPU and Motherboard power, along with having properly seated RAM, a CPU installed, and a CPU fan header plugged in, your motherboard should be able to boot. A nice feature I like to see on motherboards (and sometimes GPUs) is the little green light that lights up indicating that the motherboard has power, however, as far as I can see, there is no light on his motherboard. He has an i5 4670k, DDR3 1600 RAM, Corsair CX600M PSU, an MSI R9 270 (Not 270X), and (as stated above) an MSI Z87 GA-45 motherboard. I don't see any incompatibilities, or anything of the sort. I was thinking maybe it has something to do with the CMOS, but I've never had to mess with that and to be frank, I don't have any knowledge of precautions to take when doing something like that. Is it possible that one of his components is dead? He's building his computer on a wood floor while wearing sneakers so I highly doubt that he could have shorted his motherboard. If anything I think it might be the PSU. He's tried using the on board video as well, but no luck. Any suggestions or solutions to this problem? I can't think of anything.

I'll be getting the 4670k in a month or so, but I plan on spending up to around $40-50 for a good tube of thermal paste, and a fan. I'm not wanting something insane, and I've never done any water cooling, so it's probably not a good idea to try it out. I'm not very familiar with cooling, so I'm asking here.

Hello all! So I was waiting for some downloads, and pondering a few different things... But something that stuck on my head was this, "What programs benefit from hyper threading?" Like, I know "editing" benefits, but like what programs, and in what way? Is it just like video rendering? Orrr? All help appreciated

Hello all! I was just sitting here pondering the web, and I found an interesting post referring to the 2700k. Now I know my differences between i5 and i7, but I haven't really thought much about the 2700k and such. 1.What are the differences between a CPU like the 2700k and a 4670k or a 4770k? 2.What are they made for individually? 3.What do they do for gaming? 4.Why does the 2700k exist? (Kind of tied in with Q.2) If you guys could answer, that would be great ! I like to keep educated, and I wanted to know some information.

So, I've narrowed this build down to two different processors with chosen motherboards. What I need help with is deciding which offers the most performance, both in and outside of gaming. AMD: CPU: FX 8350 £150 MOBO: Crosshair V Formula-z £130 INTEL: CPU: i5 4670k £188 MOBO: MSI Z87 GD65 Gaming £158 So the Intel is the more expensive, and newer, however would the FX 8350 somehow be a little more "future-proof"? Forgive me for using the term, I know it's incorrect.

Hey guys, Looking for a good MoBo to go with a 4670k. In Australia the z87 Sabertooth is $319, which i thought was pretty expensive considering the CPU is $272. What are your thoughts on a high quality gaming level MoBo? Is a Sabertooth overkill if its only being used for mild overclocks or is the right price for something that will last a long time? Thanks

Hey guys, here's my situation, I live in the UK, therefore I use the GBP. In September, I'll be starting my my first year at Uni which means I'll be living in Halls. The relevance of this, for those that are unsure, is that I will not have to worry about power consumption as my accommodation is a fix rent, which includes utilities. I'm looking to have PC with a 4670K (overclocked) and dual 7950s (also overclocked). So, my question you ask? LiteCoin mining or BitCoin mining, which is for me? Considering I want to be making as much as possible a month [i will be using it to pay off my new PC(along with the sale of my current PC), and then anything extra will pay for food.]. Its also important, for me, that there's a reputable and reliable exchange for whichever coin type, to the GBP. PS I've not made a poll, because I'm really looking for experienced or knowledgeable (or both :P ) advice on this, as well as a straight Bit/LiteCoin for an answer. PPS If this can pan-out as I hope, there will be further threads on 'New Build Ideas', 'Build Log' and 'Help to configure my Bit/LiteCoin mining'. I hope you'll all be interested in following through those threads. However, if the mining idea can't be viable, I'm afraid no posts will follow. Thanks guys!

Is this normal? My CPU usage in game (While recording with Dxtory) is ~30%. The frame rate of course does drop a bit, from ~60-70 FPS (In the area I was in), down to ~45 or so. In the menu right after you start up the game, I was getting ~ 60-70% CPU usage. The FPS seemed normal, 60-70 even when looking afar. I'm just wondering if I can get a tiny bit better of a frame rate, considering my GPU usage never hit above 95%, and a little bit better frame rate is always nice. Specs: i5 4670k stock 8GB DDR3 1333 MHz RAM Radeon 6950 2GB unlocked to 6970 specs Settings in game: Maxed, with the exception of vsync (off) & physx (low) 1920x1080

Hello all! I'm creating a new-ish build, using a few of my existing parts, but mostly new components. The build is pushing 3, 24" 1080p monitors The use case is Gaming, programming, recording [sound], and intensive internet use (I end up with 20-50 tabs open.) Greetings everybody. So i decided to start a build log of where i have been to where i am now. Let me first say that i do this for fun, i am not a PC guru or even an avid gamer. I mainly play racing games and I like maxing them out, which is the reason I buy the components I do. With that said, this is how it began. I started with PC's when I was 13, Pentium 4'ing it all day every day with Toca racecar challenge. As the games got better and prettier I needed to upgrade. I went to AMD for about 4 months then decided it wasn't for me. If I remember correctly it was a POWER HUNGRY Phenom Quad core and I think I had a GTX 260 ASUS Martix something or other, this was all a very long time ago, so you will have to excuse my terrible memory. From that I went to my first gen I7 series processor with a few GTX 260's then to this... It was a Core I7 2600K with a GTX 560Ti and 8 gigs of ram, all sitting in an 67 series ASUS board. I had it for a while but soon enough I couldn't MAX out my games so it was upgrade time. From that I went to an Intel Core I5 3670K ( Cooled by a H100i ) with a GTX 670 FTW edition from EVGA, with 8 gigs of Vengeance ram all of which were mating on a Z77 MSI board of some sort. Then I decided to give that PC to my Brother who had a pc with a top mounted PSU, so he needed better and i got to see that little idiots face light up haha. I then decided to get what I am still running with now, which is a Obsidian 750D with a ASUS GTX780Ti DCU2, I54670K ( Cooled by another H100i ) , 8 Gigs of Veangance RAM a CX750M PSU and a 128GIG SSD ( I think its a Transcend ) which all of the components above and transferring data back and forth through a Z87 GD65 Gaming MOBO from MSI. As you can see i am a CORSAIR fanboy. i love all of their products and the quality of their goods. The one issue i had with my old H100i cooler was the LED's stopped working and they replaced without a single hassle. ( Props to Corsair on that ) I must say i am very pleased with the performance of this PC i love the looks of it and how SO DAM QUIET IT IS! As you all know Quiet PC's are simply better than loud ones and here in 2014 we are at the point where we can have all the power we want without all the pesky noise. I hope you enjoyed this little story blog and I hope to hear all of your comments whether they are good or Bad, the PC isn't 100% finished as of yet as I still need to do a few tweaks such as braided cables and the real corsair fans all around, but that is just aesthetics mainly.

Hi all. I'm going to watercool 4670k and GTX 780 in R4. How should I build it? Parts that I have: 1x Phobya CPU-Cooler UC-2 LT Intel 775,1155,1156,1366,2011 - Black Edition 1x Phobya G-Changer 240 V.2 1x Phobya DC12-220 12Volt pump 1x Phobya DC12-400 12Volt pump 1x Phobya Balancer 150 black nickel 1x NexXxos XT45 240 4x AP121-GL Green EK-Ekoolant EK-FC780 GTX Ti DCII Acetal + Nickel Full Cover GPUBlock I'm thinking that if I should do like two loops with same reservoir or just do it singleloop with those pumps in paraller or serial.

Should I go with build A- http://pcpartpicker.com/user/lcater95/saved/4MBi -4770k -R9280X or B- http://pcpartpicker.com/user/lcater95/saved/4MBr -4670k -R9290 This will be a purely gaming build. Normally I would choose option B but I keep hearing people say that games will soon start to utilize 8 cores because PS4 and Xbone do. I'm 1080p now but will crossfire and go 4k when it's ready. Will two 280Xs be able to accomplish this? PS: If you can recommend a better Z97 mobo for the price or less that would be great.

Hey, I just wanted to know which memory is the best according to the specifications of it like timings and volts. The motherboard I will be using is the ASUS Maximus VII Ranger z97 and the CPU will be the i5-4670K. The system will be mainly used for gaming.
