Budget (including currency): $1500 Australian Dollars Country: Australia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Looking for a mid-range “Bang For Buck” build to get started with 3D rendering in Blender and Composition with After Effects. Some gaming on the side. Other details: Want this to be a base build that can be upgraded into the future as workload increases. Keep it Ryzen. Happy if you give me an upgrade pathway too guys.

Whenever I look up whether multi gpu rigs are worth it, almost all results are about gaming. I know that having more than 1 gpu isn't super practical for games, but I want to know if it will make any difference when doing non-games stuff, like modeling or rendering in programs like maya. If there is some advantage to having 2 gpus, would it matter if they are in sli/eyefinity or not linked and just act like 2 seperate cards? I ask because I tend to rely on my gpu for most of the work (both in viewport and rendering), and my projects tend to be pretty big.

I work for 8 years with 3d rendering and advertising, and for personal reasons I'm going to work from home now. I'm going to set up a home office, and I've seen the need to have a NAS and a render farm, but I don't have much space. My question is: do I mount two systems in a single case (Enthoo mini XL DS), or do I mount two systems using a stronger processor and virtualization using Unraid? Here are the part lists from pc part picker: System 2 in 1 CPU: Intel Core i7-6800K 3.4GHz 6-Core Processor ($409.99 @ SuperBiiz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S 55.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($57.89 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: Asus X99-M WS Micro ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard ($263.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory ($171.58 @ Amazon) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($169.49 @ OutletPC) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 2GB ACX 2.0 Video Card ($109.99 @ B&H) Case: Phanteks Enthoo Mini XL MicroATX Desktop Case ($179.00) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2 1000W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($183.80 @ OutletPC) CPU: Integrated with Motherboard Motherboard: ASRock C2750D4I Mini ITX Atom C2750 Motherboard ($379.99 @ SuperBiiz) Storage: Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($145.99 @ B&H) Storage: Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($145.99 @ B&H) Storage: Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($145.99 @ B&H) Storage: Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($145.99 @ B&H) Storage: Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($145.99 @ B&H) Storage: Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($145.99 @ B&H) Other: 10Gtek for Intel 82599ES Chip Ethernet Converged Network Adapter X520-DA2 ($263.99 @ Amazon) Other: Kingston Technology ValueRAM 64 GB Kit of 4 (4x16 GB Modules) 1600MHz DDR3 (PC3-12800) ECC Reg CL11 DIMM DR x4 Server Memory KVR16R11D4K4/64 ($519.08 @ Amazon) Total: $3584.73 ------------------- System VM CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2640 V4 2.4GHz 10-Core Processor ($879.99 @ B&H) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U14S 55.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($64.45 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: Asus X99-M WS Micro ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard ($263.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: Crucial 64GB (4 x 16GB) Registered DDR4-2133 Memory ($417.77 @ Amazon) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($169.49 @ OutletPC) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($169.49 @ OutletPC) Storage: Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($145.99 @ B&H) Storage: Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($145.99 @ B&H) Storage: Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($145.99 @ B&H) Storage: Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($145.99 @ B&H) Storage: Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($145.99 @ B&H) Storage: Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($145.99 @ B&H) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 2GB ACX 2.0 Video Card ($109.99 @ B&H) Case: Fractal Design Define R5 Blackout Edition ATX Mid Tower Case ($99.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA P2 850W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($134.49 @ OutletPC) Other: 10Gtek for Intel 82599ES Chip Ethernet Converged Network Adapter X520-DA2 ($263.99 @ Amazon) Total: $3449.58 What do you guys think?

I'm building a virtual pinball machine with my father during my semester break, if anyone has questions or suggestions feel free to comment. What I'm going for is basically a pinball machine, but with digital inputs and a pc in it to run simulation software. Instead of a playfield I'll be using a 4k, passive 3d ips tv, and old 32inch 720p ips tv for the backglass and a 22 inch monitor to simulate the dot matrix display. Ill also add headtracking via a 360 Kinect (so the playfield always the right viewing angle, I'm basically going for a hologram like feel coupled with the stereoscopic 3d), I might also add a tilt sensor and force feedback later on. For games Ill mostly use Future Pinball and Pinball FX2, I might also add some other arcade or racing games later. Ill recycle my media PC and put in a separate boot SSD for all the pinball stuff are, specs are: i7 930 @ 4.0 ghz 12gb corsair dominator ram 650w PSU 120gb ssd r9 280x vapor x 1 active DP 1.2 to hdmi 2.0 converter Parts List: pc: here anyway, build into the pinball machine as a drawer Playfield 4k3d tv: mounted Backglass TV: mounted DMD Monitor: mounted 3/4 inch mdf wood parts: Mostly mounted and sanded down 2.1 sound system: mostly mounted costum 90° circular polarized 3d glasses: done Arcade Buttons and controller board: mounted Bally Pinball Legs: mounted Metal down and sidebar: widebody downbar temporarily mounted Playfield and backglass tempered glass: Not ordered yet. Ball Plunger: Not ordered yet Coin door: On hand, frame is mounted LED lighting and controller board: Needs more leds, RGB baby Ventilation: installed Power Switch: installed Progress: Works + I have some tables configured the way I want to. Still bare and rough on the outside though. Next thin to do: Cut loudspeaker holes and install cover, install coin door, install nudge mechanism, add symbols to the buttons Some Pics of the cabinet: Update 10.02.17 Modified the cabinet, mounted the legs, some buttons, and the monitors, moved the pc + the sub inside the cab and got 4k 3d properly working in the Pinball fx2 arcade mode. After we moved the cab the old 32 inch backglass monitor stopped working. Maybe it got to hot, or it was old age, idk. Update 11.02.17: The 32 inch tv pulled a Lazarus on me and started woking again, I hope it stays that way. The basic functionality is working now....so I mostly spend my time playing instead of working :D. Here's a pic of pinball fx2 running on it. Update 14.02.17 The front end software is configured now, ill look into getting a metal frame and a playfield glass soon. Here's a little video showing off how it is configured atm. Update 15.02.17 Added some future Pinball tables and launch sounds for all games, with the right settings the Kinect tracking works very smoothly. Update 25.02.17: The coin door, down bar and led buttons arrived. I've cut up my old Antec 902 case and mounted my pc on rails in the back. Ventilation, led buttons and the coin door frame has also been installed.

hi , cant any monitor with high refresh rate support 3d ? isn't 3d just masking images using filters (3d glasses) at high fps ? I'm thinking to buy a new monitor. I don't really need ultra high refresh rates and response time for competitive games . I need sufficient refresh rates for greater detail and immersion. I'm currently looking at a 27'' monitor . but the question is , should I opt for a 4k 3d monitor or buy a decent 27'' monitor and set up a vr . ive never tried oculus or vive so I don't really know the VR experience. I'm only familiar with 3D . does VR support 3d along with 360 ? can I game in VR ( not VR ready games , any usual games, without motion sensing or 360.jus like a regular more immersive screen, if possible with 3D ). so VR or monitor ? can I run 3d content on high refresh monitor wearing 3d glasses ? can VR support 3D too (ie..depth (and/or) 360 view)? can I game on VR jus like a regular screen ? { If yes, should I opt for VR and basic monitor or 4k 3d monitor for greater immersion ? } 4k monitor or 3d VR ?

Hi all! ^^ We want to try and create a 3D model for 3D printing project at university. We are group of 3 people, studying software engineering and are total noobs in 3D modeling and generally modeling. What we want to try is to print 1/10 body (frame) of a car, for example, body of Tesla. What is the best software to start modeling for noobs like us? 3D printers are: Fortus 250mc or PHARAOH ED 20. STL or OBJ files.

Have $300 to spend and have been looking at getting a 3D printer. I was looking at the Monoprice Select Mini and it was around $200, which is fantastic. It currently has 4/5 stars with 300 reviews but is unavailable. So cna you think of any printer that is around my price range that might be better? Link of the Monoprice: https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Select-Printer-Heated-Filament/dp/B01FL49VZE/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=sl1&tag=mikeandlauren-20&linkId=5af3dd977d40964a4878c93815b1574c *Note: I don't feel to comfortable in having to build one as it might cause overall worse performance due to my installation.* Thanks!

So I just bought myself a AOC Agon AG241QX monitor and it works fine in desktop mode although i have like 5-7 dead pixels (which could means i can probably get to use their warranty) but aside from that, nothing. Until i get into a game (Skyrim or Paragon for example) My screen then turns blurry and green/red, somewhat like 3d i guess, but i dont think the monitor supports that and there´s no setting for it that I can find.. Anyone know of an issue like this? Would appreciate the help!

So after building a new machine and getting the Asus Z170 Pro Gaming Aura, I got a 3D printer and started to teach my self modeling and printing. Since that mother board has stand offs for attaching 3d printed items like IO Covers and armor. I wanted to start adding some of this stuff to my rig. Has anyone done this with PLA? How does the PLA deal with the temps of the inside of a PC Case? 3d Printer - Monoprice Maker select v2.1 (a Wanhao clone) NZXT H440 Case EVGA GTX 970 (probably a 1080 TI soon) I7 6700K on a Corsair h100i V2

I'm a 3D artist and currently running into severe limitations with my 2013 imac, so I'm thinking of switching to PC for rendering purposes. I have a relatively small budget for a this kind of project of about 2300 USD. So far i have designed a build using xeon processors, a big tower case, and a GTX 1080, (I'm looking maybe using a AMD RYZEN 1800X prosessor instead of xeon.) EDIT: Here is the build I'm currently looking at https://pcpartpicker.com/list/

Are there any websites that have computer case models you can 3D Print?
Guest posted a topic in Hobby Electronics
Does such a service/business where you can download the necessary plans to 3D print a computer case with a certain 3D printer with specific materials exist yet? Or is it still in the future for now? I'm just curious. Hopefully this is not a duplicate thread.- 6 replies

A couple was found dead on Monday afternoon by authorities in their home. The couple were both MIT graduates and they had two cats. The building was evacuated and the Fire Department's hazardous team was bought in to check out if there was anything wrong with the building. They couldn't find anything wrong with it. Then a few days later results came in and the couple showed signs of Carbon Monoxide poisoning. Both the couple and their cats were killed by their 3D printer when it, vented carbon monoxide into their home. Not too sure how much toxic fumes a 3d printer releases. On the other hand, it's said that toner emitted from laser printer is like second hand smoke, so a 3D one is probably much worse? As for the couple and their pet, rip. http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2017/01/27/source-carbon-monoxide-poisoning-killed-berkeley-couple/ update

Maybe it will make a resurgence when the tech is better, like VR.

Im currently preparing to build a virtual Pinball machine (basically a Pinball cabinet with digital inputs, force feedback and a Pinball Simulator running on an LCD instead of an actual playing field, ive put an example below) and am still looking for a nice Tv/Monitor for it. Originally I was just going for a simple 4k ips tv, but after experimenting with sterioskopic 3d + head-tracking it seems like ill go the extra mile. Unfortunately 4k 3d tvs with hdmi 2.0 (60 fps) seem quite rare at that size (40-46inch to fit the cabinet). If anybody knows some models that might work it would be highly appreciated. Im looking for: ~4k Resolution 3d, preferably passive 3d with circular polarization hdmi 2.0 ( or some other 60fps, 4k input) low input lag (<50 ms) 40-46 inch size good viewing angles ~600-1000 Euro Price Point The only TV I could find for now is the PANASONIC TX-43CXW754 LED, its at the end of my price range though (1000 Euro), so it would be nice to have some other options. ohh and....build log coming up......at some point in the future I guess.

Hey there! Im quite new on the LTT forums. So not sure how it everything goes here. But anyhow, I am looking for a new laptop where I can work on. The programs I mostly use are Cinema 4D/Maya and Adobe creative cloud. (after effects, photoshop, premiere pro etc.) Rrender times and multitasking are pretty important for me, and the laptop I use now is a no go for the stuff I do. So I hope some people can recommend me a good and fast laptop for around 1100 euro, I can go a little higher if needed. I'have found this one for 1100euro. http://store.hp.com/NetherlandsStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=1NA07EA&opt=ABH&sel=NTB#reviews You can find all the specs on the page. But In short: 15 inch screen i7 7700HQ 16gb ram gtx 1050 ti m.2 ssd 256GB + 1TB 7200rpm hdd I want to know if this i a good choice, or if there are better choices. Let me know anything thay may be usefull for me, and thank you in advance! Greetings Jordy

3d Problem with 3D programs. Lines and things everywhere!

There is something wrong with my 3D, DirectX or OpenGL drivers or something. Just watch the video and you'll see.https://youtu.be/qzd7RbPxx8wI don't know how to describe it, it started a few days ago, and it is happening to all 3D programs on my PC. Help? I think it is DirectX, but I'm not quite sure.... -
Are there 3D models of socket covers available online (for download)? I lost mine (LGA 1151) and I plan to get another via 3D Builder.

In Linus's homemade router video, he mentioned that Taran modeled a shroud for the cooling. What program did he use, and how much money do I need to shell out for said program?

I've been noticing that my printer seems to have a lot of trouble with infill support. If it is making a line, the line seems to break up a bit in random areas. Oddly enough, everything on the outside is perfect, only the inside is where trouble starts. Settings: Monoprice Maker Select V2 100% Flow 200c Temp 50c Bed 40% infill 40 mm/s print speed (usually its 60 but I was seeing if it mattered, doesnt seem to) 120 mm/s travel speed .8mm wall thickness .1mm Layer height I use Cura 2.4/2.5. I don't know if my settings are normal or not. I have had completed prints but have never opened one to see if the support worked.

I am starting a project to make an electric bike, so i stared to print the gears for it, but i noticed on the teeth for the belt the quality is just crap, every where else is nice and smooth for the most part, but the only part that matters does not look good. It is going about 35 mm/s when it goes to the teeth. What could i do to make this not as bad as it looks, because im afraid if it will even sit with the belt right now.

Hello LTT community! I'm a 3D Animation & CGI student about to start his final year (if nothing goes wrong). The final year will involve the creation of a 30sec to 2min rendered movie (Using Renderman, Mental Ray or Unreal Engine 4, etc...) I'll be using programs such as Autodesk Maya, Blender and the Adobe product lineup (Mainly Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Audition) Even though I have access to pretty powerful school 3D computers, I want to get a new build in order to work home at 3 am with a cup of coffee beside me... So tl;dr, I plan to build a 3D centric productivity desktop (gaming too since I still game, hue). Here's a PCPartPicker to give an idea of my planned build: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/XqwxCy *Sidenote: Purchased items are the optional stuff I'm considering* My aimed budget is around $2k CAD for the computer parts (CPU, Cooler, Mobo, RAM, PSU, Storage, GPU and case), but I can be a little liberal. The spoiler below is an opinion/argument of my own for each component (then again, I'm a noob...so maybe I should just shut my mouth, but whatever). So here are (possibly) some questions that I'm expecting from the pros: So yeah, I guess that's it. Feel free to ask me anything and I'm open to any suggestions! Thank you for your time! P.S.: Here, have an Ene GIF. OwO ============================================== UPDATE - REVISION 1.0 (12:20 AM - 2017-04-06) Thank you all for the feedbacks! Here's an updated parts list from your opinions: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/YtxnFd In summary: In the end, we saved $15.07! (Woot Woo!) So yeah, that's the first revision. Again, feedbacks would be nice. Thanks! P.S.: Another Ene GIF , lul.

So I am currently pulling my hair out over this matter. But first, my setup: i7-6700 with gtx1080, a Dell S2716DG, some FullHD Medion monitor and a panasonic TV. The dell is my first screen, the Medion the second and the TV the third, but 2 and 3 is duplicated image (mirrored, not sure which is the right english term, they show the same image for watching movies and stuff) I want to set this up to watch 3D bluRays on my TV from my PC. I have a capable bluray drive, and I also installed the correct monitor driver for the TV (which was a bi**h but I got it running.) Nvidia 3D Vision is installed and active (yes I actually bought that)... I try to get powerDVD running. What settings do I need to set up to do so? I hope someone knows this, help would be greatly appreaciated. Any guide or even a phonecall via skype or something. I have streaming set up so I can stream my desktop as well. I'm sitting on this for hours now and I run out of thinking juice in brains. Thanks in advance, Tim P.S.: Before I had the Dell and the GTX 1080 I used the two remaining monitors to play games in 3D which worked like a charm. But I changed the motherboard/CPU and after reinstalling windows I need to set it upo again. The Dell monitor got added with the 1080
