Hey all, I have recently bought all the parts for my new PC which I intend to build in the next couple of days (first build). I have been using the site "PC Part-Picker" to aid me in checking for compatibility, and as a result I have two questions with which I hope you may help me: 1. PC Part-Picker indicated to me a single incompatibility in my build: USB 3.0 headers vs 2.0 ports. My new motherboard is the Z170A gaming M5 while I am keeping my old case, the Antec Six Hundred V2. It appears that the Z170A has an onboard USB 3.0 header but my tower isn't equipped with any front panel USB 3.0 ports. I get that it is not a terribly bad problem but I would rather be able to use those front panel ports. Will I still be able to use the front panel USB ports even though they are only 2.0? I don't care if it diminishes the speed and effectiveness of the 3.0 headers, just want to be able to use my ports. 2. Secondly, I am just wondering about the compatibility of my PSU as it is the only part I haven't made extensive research on. PC Part-Picker indicated they were perfectly compatible but I also know that the site is not flawless, so just to be sure, I'll ask it here. My PSU is the Corsair HX650W. Not so worried about the wattage as my rig shouldn't be exceeding 550W once all the new parts are in place, but rather will connectors be compatible with my motherboard etc? I also imagine the PCI.E3.0 slots for my GTX980ti won't be a problem (I know, I know, I received it just months before the 1080, but it was a gift, don't diss me on it). Thanks in advance, Harold

Hello, Today I was assebling a pc for a friend of mine and everything went well until I came to the point I had to insert the USB 3.0 header, at first it didn't fit so I investigated the issue and I saw that the pin next to the blocked off pin was bent, however, when bending it back, it broke completely. I already contacted the reseller and of course the issue is not covered since I broke it myself. My question is now, can it hurt when I insert the USB header anyway? I am not a technician so I have no idea what the Vbus pin does. Will my usb port work if I plug in the header? Thanks

Hello, I am looking to buy a portable solid state drive with usb 3.0 to boot windows 10 from and install programs on (games included). I found the "SAMSUNG Portable SSD T1 250GB" but I am wondering if it's good enough to install a windows 10 on and boot from it and to play games from it. If anyone has a better suggestion for a other drive please tell me. Thanks for your help :-) Kind regards, Rowan

So NewEgg sent me the "wrong" Motherboard and with the crazyness of Black Friday and CyberMonday around the corner I don't know how much I want to wait on getting this turned around for the right one. I ordered the Gigabyte G1.Sniper Z97 but they sent the Gaming 5 Z97 instead. The Sniper has 6 Sata 6gb/s ports and the Gaming 5 has 2 Sata 6gb/s and 4 sata express. My question is can I run my drives on SATA 3.0 through the SATA Express ports on the Gaming 5 without having to change anything or any hassle? If not I plan on sending the board back for the one I wanted. Just curious about saving myself the return headaches this time of year.

As the question says... What is the best motherboard you can get for £75. By best I mean long warranty, good customer support, lots of USB 3.0 ports, hopefully on board wifi even though I will probably use LAN, good on board sound, crossfire compatibility and good reliability. Oh... and it must be compatible with intel i5 4460 (LGA 1150) Thanks... EDIT 1: ATX

dual nmve drives in raid 0 questions
Andrew Storlie posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
ok... ive been asking msi about this S*** for about a month no and cant get a freaking answer over their tech support line cause most of them i can hardly understand and therefore cant understand what im asking.... so hopefully someone can help me here on the new msi xpower titanium (all silver color, awesomness) there are 2(two) m.2 which they say are pci 3.0 (x4 assuming) THE QUESTIONS: 1:cause they are pci based m.2 slots is raid 0 supported in bios? 2:will running dual pci based m.2 ssds in raid 0 hinder the ability to run sli do to maximum amount of lanes 3 (option 2b): on a board like the xpower titanium, would running sli AND 2-950 pros using asus hyper m.2 x4 mini adapter be possible? i would be using the 6700k OR OR OR would it just be better to run x99 5820k and do the sli and the dual nvme drives in raid 0 on the asus m.2x4 mini adapters? if i need to clarify anything please ask (yea im aware the running 2-950 pros in raid 0 is basicly pointless speed, its just what i want) -
Hello, i bought myself a nice usb 3.0 stick from san disk with about reading speeds up to 250mb for my surface pro 2 tablet. Now the problem is that the surface pro 2 does have a usb 3.0 but the stick runs at usb 2.0 speeds. 40-50 mb read speeds. How can i make it run properly? Any suggestions? I googled alot about it but i just cant find any solutions.

First off my specs: AMD FX-6350 OC'd to 4.4 GHZ MSI 970 Gaming MOBO XFX R9 270X 8GB G.Skill RAM Windows 10 on 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD for storage I have noticed here recently that anything i plug into my USB ports or sata ports will randomly be disconnected for about 5 seconds to a few minutes. This includes my SSD but not the HDD, mouse, keyboard, wifi adapter, flash drives, and my 360 controller. My case also has 2 USB 3.0 connectors on the front and are plugged in but then i connect anything to it they will light up like they are getting power but thats it. Flash drives dont show up. my wifi adapter just shows a very dim solid blue light. Is this something going wrong on my mobo?

Ever since I installed Windows 10, 2 of my motherboard USB3.0 ports just won't work properly. When I try to plug in any device (thumb drive/external HDD, Android phone, USB hub) into these USB3.0 ports it makes the "plug-in sound" but nothing comes up in Windows or Device Manager. Strangely my LED mouse and the Corsair K70 lights up so power is not the issue. One thing to note though, in Device Manager under USB controllers the "Generic USB xHCI Host Controller" has a warning sign over it. I've tried updating it says the best driver is already installed. I'll list my specs and the things I've tried below. If anyone has any idea or suggestion please reply. Thanks! ------------------------------------------------- Things I've tried to solve this issue: Reboot Update the USB drivers in device manager Uninstall all USB drivers in device manager and reboot Updating the Motherboards BIOS and all it's drivers Taking my graphics card then trying the USB ports just in case it was a power SPECS: CPU: Intel Core i5 3330 3.0GHz (stock speed) Average temp 42 degrees (4 cores & threads) RAM: 6gb single channel DDR3 (I know it's bad). Motherboard: MSI H77MA-G43 GPU: Gigabyte 960 2gb PSU: Corsair CX600 (600 watts) SSD: Kingston HyperX 120gb, 2.5 inch HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 500gb

I am planning on adding some type of expansion to my server and I want to make the most of the full PCI-E X16 lane which can either run at 2.0 or 3.0 depending on the processor I use in it. I have seen some cards which offer a couple of usb 3.1 ports (20 gigabits) and some which offer four USB 3 ports (20 gigabits) but this is a bit of a waste compared to the total amount of capacity available on the lane which is something like 128Gbps. I know it'll never get the full bandwidth but surely there's a PCIe card out somewhere which will make better use of all of available bandwidth and I'm hoping that someone knows about some sort of card like this? There isn't much space left in the server so I can't split or go full size (I can go full length) but there is plenty of space outside for an external solution providing that it isn't one of them stupidly priced £1000+ external bays.

Hey guys, So today I figured out that my Sapphire Radeon R9 280, which is a PCIe 3.0 graphics card, is stuck on PCIe 2.0 16x. I discovered this in the menu of the AMD Crimson software. So I went into the Gigabyte DualUEFI BIOS and I went into the GFX Configuration in the Peripherals section of the BIOS. Does this mean anything? Am I supposed to have another option selected here? After I looked here, I went to the Miscellaneous section of the M.I.T. menu and found this: There was no Gen3 option available? Does anybody know how to fix this?

Hi all, I bought a Datatraveler 100 G3 32GB a years ago, with a very rough adventure with being left in wachine machine, clothes dryer and many drops. I also reformat it a few hundreds times throughout the years. Today I just bought the same model of usb drive, but it is no longer the speed of the old one. The speed is as follow (Measured by CrystalDiskMark): Old Usb drive: 170MB/s read, 40MB/s write (seq) New Usb drive : 80MB/s read, 14MB/s write (seq) The same model of USB offered by Kingston, bought from the same retail shop in Malaysia here, but does anyone have any explanation on the speed difference? I am so disappointed about it. Sorry I do not have any screenshot as prove but I am not lying. Thank you all!

Hello, recently I have been having problems with my laptop, ive had it for about 4 years now, and it suddenly wont read USB 2.0 but reads USB 3.0 perfectly fine. I went into the device manager to check on my USB and it has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point on it. I right click the USB and check the properties and it tells me this: "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)" I have no idea what to do, I checked if the drivers were up to date and they were. Another thing I noticed was that I don't have a "Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader Driver" like a lot of other people have in YouTube videos. Could this be the problem in this scenario?

My last post was never answered, even after bumping twice, so i feel i have to ask this again. I want everything to be plugged directly into the motherboard of my computer, including my USB wireless card, for maximum effect. however, i do not know how well it will go. I am unsure how an external HUB will effect my Mouse, which is in a 3.0 port, or my wireless receiver for my controller, not to mention my other USB devices. I heard 2.0 devices have latency problems and whatnot in 3.0 ports, so i am kind of wondering if this will actually help my mouse and stuff. Regardless of the external Hub i get, i just don't know about USB 2.0 devices in 3.0 ports, or if external hubs have problems with speed. can someone help me out here, im confused

So ive had this external hard drive for a bit and ive had it plugged into the usb 3.1 port on the back of my computer and just suddely oneday now it wont connect, the blue led doesnt turn on and you can hear the drive start up but then it just doesnt go any further than that although for some reason it still works in a usb 2.0 port, does anyone know what might have caused this?

My current setup of peripherals, accessories and the such, being a wireless adapter usb, a wireless receiver for my xbox controller, my mouse, keyboard and headset all take up nearly every single one of my USB's. even using the plug and play charge kit from Nyko i only have 2 USB's left, and that's all i really need when it comes to my accessories. however, only 2 out of the 8 USB hubs are 3.0, and two of the USB 2.0 hubs are on the front of the case. and i've been hearing talk about USB devices and how to use them effectively and it seems i'm limiting myself with how my setup is currently... Just to clarify, im using a rubber dome keyboard and a 4000 DPI optical gaming mouse in the USB 3.0 slots in my motherboard, my headset, which is a USB, is in a 2.0 hub in the motherboard. Recently i found this little gem: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IORDE5O?colid=2Z38EJPM1CWF2&coliid=I1DA67L84OC1W9&ref_=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl Gamdias makes good products i hear, and this being a powered USB hub that saves alot of space, as well a sgives my headset a place to sit and rest, i figured this might be a great option for me. However, i find it's only a 2.0 hub.... SO my question is in the title, but allow me to clarify... Are my devices good as they are, or would the headset and mouse be better suited in a 2.0 hub rather than a 3.0 hub? I hear 2.0 devices have latency problems, random shutoffs and the such from 3.0 connections (my rubber dome had problems with 2.0, shutting off randomly, as soon as i put it in 3.0 it hasn't had problems since, so that's a no brainer)

Can you put a 2.0 GPU in a 3.0 Motherboard
HowKnows posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
A bit of an unusual question i am wondering if you can put a 2,0 GPU in a 3.0 PCI-E motherboard I am NOT saying putting a 3.0 gpu in a 2.0 board i am thinking of putting a GT 8800, into a MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition motherbaord, with an i7 4790k Of course i am not putting the 8800 as my working gpu, but as a display gpu to let the real working one do its job on its own. EDIT: I don't even know if a GT 8800 has PCI 2.0, could be 1.0 as well -
If I use a USB 3.0 device in the 3.1 port, will it use the PCIe 16_3 slot bandwidth? In the details on Newegg, it says that the ports share the bandwidth of that lane. Thanks in advance! :-)

Hi this morning my PC started Troubleshooting. For some reason unknown it doesnt detect both my keyboard and mouse. But when i am in my BIOS it does work fully which i found quite odd. I have an MSI Z97 Gaming 7 Motherboard. I tried most normal things such as plugging them in other USB slots, Power off the PC take them out wait for he PC to start up again put them in. Restarting my pc and leaving all power off for more than 4 hours. All these weird little things i tried them but for me they dont work. I need urgent help i am trying to find a solution since 11am and getting slowly sick of it. I hope one of the PC gods out there is able to help me. If so thank you in advance. Both the keyboard and mouse are Wired by USB I also found out my really old keyboard (with round thing as connectionpoint) does work. Help me please.
