  • Gender
    Male
  • Interests
    Computer Hardware, Thrash Metal/Heavy Metal/Classic Rock/Death metal/black metal/groove metal/etc., Cryptocurrency, Programming, Drawing, Horses
  • Biography
Some guy who didn't get good framerates running absolute maximum settings on Skyrim, and thus wanted to upgrade his rig and eventually became obsessed with computer hardware in the process. This happened somewhere in November of 2013. During those months, I had obsessively researched how computers worked and began reading and watching reviews on certain parts, like the Radeon 7770, or the Intel Core I7-3960x. Now, I am beginning my quest for an A+ certification.

System

  • CPU
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.06Ghz. LGA775 FTW.
  • Motherboard
    Gigabyte G41MT-S2PT
  • RAM
2x2Gb Gskill NS Series DDR3-1333MHz CAS Latency: 9
  • GPU
    Asus EAH5770 (Non-refrence Radeon 5770)
  • Case
A heavily modified ancient tower. It's one of those huge grayish beige colored towers with 6 5.25" bays and 3 3.25" bays. It's quite dirty.
  • Storage
1x120gb Kinston V300 Solid State Drive, 1tb Seagate Barracuda (64mb Cache) Hard Drive
  • PSU
    Ultra LS600 (600 watts, non-modular, no 80+ certifications)
  • Display(s)
    Acer X193w bd: 1440x900 resolution @ 60hz
  • Cooling
Thermaltake V1 heatsink for CPU, Zalman VF1000 for GPU
  • Keyboard
    Logitech K120
  • Mouse
I finally found out what I use: A Logitech Dual Optical Mouseman - It looks like this: http://img.tomshardware.com/us/2001/10/26/optical_mice/dual.jpg only mine has scratches all over it from years of use.
  • Sound
Logitech G930 headset. The microphone's casing thing snapped near the middle (The wiring didn't though, so it still works) so I taped it back together extremely tight with electrical tape so it won't flop around.

FlamingMetalHorse's Achievements

  1. Most of the stuff that people would consider embarrassing about their PCs I find to be a source of pride for mine. Perhaps it is because it resembles the amount of resourcefulness that was put into my rig.
  2. Horses. Horses are BRUTAL. Also, horses are sexy. Like, REALLY sexy. If a horse wants you dead, they will crush you with 1-2 thousand pounds of meaty horsey goodness. So why wouldn't I want to be a horse? THEREFORE they are metal. Also, I love metal (Great Deep White-black-WAccepurpleSP MegaIron Slaythrax PanteraAmonNiletallicAmarth Motor-priestdeathbituary Sabbath is my favorite band. They are Heavy Rock blackened tectonic Celtic black-crust-thrash Nipplecore with jazz fusion). \m/ Flaming helps emphasize the fact that the horse I am is METAL. Now going back and looking at the flaming part, I officially declare that it is able to be a reference to the burning HOT AMD Radeon r9 290x (Hot referring to the heat output and the fact that the reference design and the manufacturer's [MSI, XFX, Sapphire, etc.] many designs are just sexy) which I would love to own but can't because I lack that stinky green substance that these strange primates value so much. Why don't they just accept grass or something? It's green, too, and easier for horsekind to access. Stinky humans and your stinky green stuff. And of course no one would hire a horse, so I can't get any of this blasted "money." Racists! Anyways, I digress. The reference to the R9 290x was not placed there originally, but now it is, and it's more because of the aesthetics of the card than the TDP.
  3. Happiness is biting into a full-fledged cheese wheel. Not worrying about cutting it into bite-sized pieces, or how to store the remainder of the cheese wheel. Not caring about looking gluttonous. Not caring about having to ration the cheese wheel. Just pure pleasure. To know what the satisfaction of this cheese wheel feels like.
  4. Holy crap, not with Vishera! Of course they're going to need a new socket and CPU architecture! I probably should have specified that.
  5. Also, when my Logitech G930 decides that it's not going to warn me that its battery is below 9% power and it ends up not only cutting off audio, and making a HORRENDOUS buzzing noise.
  6. I was about to respond to that one guy (you know who I'm talking about) about how he is wrong and how he should reevaluate the facts, or at lease consider them, but in the past three hours that I prepared my six paragraph retort, you all did it for me, and I thank you all. I don't hate AMD (I actually love AMD), but I would just like to see them come out with an extreme enthusiast grade CPU that would compete with Intel's extreme enthusiast grade processors (Ie: Ivy Bridge-E, upcoming Haswell-E, you get it).
  7. I would contract Intel, AMD, and Nvidia to make THE OMNI COMPUTER. It shall be an 8 CPU master PC with 64 cores, hand picked silicon, 6 Ghz of clockspeed, and Phase change cooling each, forming THE OMNI PROCESSOR. It will have 6,000 Radeon 5770s and 6000 GeForce 570s, all in OMNIFIRE. The OMNI COMPUTER shall be on a large pod-like vehicle, that I shall pilot. I will have a skintight suit on that reveals from my neck down to the center of my upper torso in a sort of V-shape. I will have a long, flowing, glorious white mane with glowing blue eyes. As I sail the OMNI COMPUTER into the sky, my golden chin-and-neck-beard-AIO shall wave in the wind ever so gracefully atop my jiggling mound of neck fat, as I sing psalms of the great lord, GABE NEWELL. Wonder and inspiration strikes like the lightning of Thor's hammer itself, and so I stand with confidence in my gut and perseverance in my heart; fists clenched tightly enough to almost draw blood, one being held in the air, and my face positioned upwards, scraping the stratosphere and searching for the stars.
  8. When I first got into PCs, I went around blabbering about how the FX-8350 was superior to Intel's haswell processors because it had higher clockspeeds and more cores at a lesser price. Yeah... I was THAT guy... I still cringe to this day thinking about what I said.
  9. This. I want this so bad, especially for enthusiast grade processors (Like the I7-4960x.) The only thing is that you'd probably have to buy twice as much RAM as you normally would, unless both CPUs could access the same RAM, but I don't know how that whole thing would work. It probably wouldn't work that way, considering that Crossfire and SLI require each GPU to have their own VRAM. So the motherboards would need twice as many RAM slots for two CPUs as it would for one CPU. Buying twice as much RAM probably wouldn't be a problem for someone if they wanted to buy TWO I7s and run them in whatever AMD/Intel would want to call their multi CPU mode. I would chop off my left nipple for two I7-5960xs with the ability to perform in a crossfire/SLI-like fashion. Just for the lols, I would love to do that with 4 Core 2 Duo e8600s or something (But we all know that's never going to happen.) Speaking of Crossfire and SLI, I would love if I were able to crossfire more than 4 GPUs, and if the scaling was much better. I love this idea. It would be awesome to be able to buy VRAM sticks for graphics cards or something, and go completely overkill like people do with system RAM (64+GB). It'll probably help developers and 4k gamers. It would be great for enthusiasts who want something completely overkill. Also, imagine the possibilities if we had "modular" motherboards with extensions that add sockets for additional CPUs and RAM slots for the RAM required to run the additional CPUs, and combined it with the motherboard-esque Graphics cards idea. We could have a graphics card that we could attach another GPU socket onto, add the GPU, add the appropriate amount of VRAM, and have a graphics card that started off as a single GPU card that we've turned into a dual GPU graphics card. Not to mention the ability to swap one GPU with a better one, like you can do with CPUs. Just imagine the ability to customize a graphics card as if it were its own computer. Then we can have GPU socket names. Graphics boards, my friends! Graphics boards!
  10. I have Windows 9. Silly people on this forum still using their Dinosaur OSes! Windows seven? don't even mention that! Windows 8? OUT OF DATE! Windows 9 is the future, everyone. Get used to it. To apply thermal paste, you use the whole tube and spread it with a business card for optimal temperatures. More paste = more performance. The Nvidia 9800GT performs better than the 780 ti. Why do you think it has a bigger number?! HMMM?! Hacking is when someone is better than me on games!!1 Hacking is also known as "Camping" BTW. Ultra ATA drives are better than Cereal ATA drives! What do YOU think DRIVES better? Something ULTRA? Or a soggy breakfast product? I think the choice is quite clear...

  12. -I'm using an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 that I took out of the carcass of an Acer Veriton 6900 Pro that was found in a large pile of spare parts that my Dad left in the "bathroom" of my room which used to be a garage a long-ass time ago -I can't overclock it past 3.06 Ghz because of this Motherboard's (Gigabyte G41MT-S2PT) front side bus (Maximum CPU host frequency of 340 MHz) -My Kingston V300 120GB SSD is mounted at about a 60 degree to the left side of my 3.5" bay by one screw in order that The power cable from my Ultra LS600 power supply (which apparently has bad reviews) can reach it -My case is an ancient grayish-beige colored tower (I'm not sure what model it is or anything, but I remember that when my Dad used the case for his computer around the year 2000) that has an AMD Athlon Processor sticker still on it (From the days when 1ghz was a high clockspeed) and an old torn up ATI (Or AMD. I can't tell because it's too torn up) sticker. I used wood glue to stick on an "Intel Core 2 Quad Inside" sticker which I peeled off of the Acer Veriton 6900 Pro The back side panel has an 80mm hole drilled out which I covered with tape that looks and feels like aluminum foil, and two 80mm holes on the front side panel which I just took off so I could better cool the components inside the case with three old 120mm fans which were too big to put on the PC along with the side panel being on now that I'm using SATA storage devices which have to be wired awkwardly in front of my graphics card (Unlike my old 320gb PATA drive) because my motherboard's SATA ports (Which are are at the bottom-right and sticking straight out, as opposed to being at a right angle. One of the SATA ports is blocked by my ASUS EAH5770 graphics card which has a Zalman VF1000 aftermarket heatsink on it from when my dad attempted to overclock it.) I guess I can call these the SATAN ports instead of SATA ports. Also, I'm using SATA cables that I found in the pile of spare parts (which is mentioned above) which just might be first generation SATA. I just replaced the one that led connected my hard drive, because it would disconnect my hard drive during use and corrupt my files (Some of Unreal Gold's textures are corrupted all to hell, and flushing the engine cache doesn't fix it.) This would cause me to have to shut down my computer and try to tighten the SATA cable into the SATA port, lest I try to start the computer while the hard drive isn't connected, giving me "NTLDR is missing. Press Ctl+Alt+Del to restart" which I don't quite understand since I installed Windows 7 on my SSD, not my HDD (I'm not sure if the fact that I have Windows XP on my HDD has anything to do with this). So far, the "New" SATA cable seems to be working just fine, but the damage is done, and to one of my favorite games of all time, too, Damn it! At least it's still playable. Also, there is a Windows XP Home Edition sticker on one of the gray-beige 5.25" bay covers that I took off of an old random PC case (that I found in the aforementioned pile of spare parts which I keep referencing because that is where I get a lot of my stuff) even though I'm using Windows 7 in dual boot with Windows XP Professional (I plan on going tri-boot with Ubuntu soon enough.) I used a 5.25" bay to mount my HDD using useful adapter thingies that I used to use for my PATA drive. I used electrical tape to lazily tape the fan controller for my Zalman VF1000 heatsink for my graphics card to the front of my case, ensuring that it will occasionally fall off. I also used electrical tape to make a sort of corny aesthetic on my case to match the gray-beige + black combo I have going on here with the Black 5.25" and 3.25" bay covers as well as the gray-beige ones. I also used a pencil to draw AMD's logo, Intel's logo, and the original Unreal logo (The one where the top left of the "U" is slanted upwards instead of downwards) on my case. Maximum L337ness engaged. I still haven't wired the case LED for... uhh... err... something (I don't even know what it is). It is symbolized by a house with a stereotypical moon inside of it. Sleep mode LED, maybe? I don't know. I have an unused 80mm fan next to the I/O of my computer, used for exhausting (Or intaking. I don't really know because I haven't used it for months, now.) air from the CPU heatsink which I leave there unplugged because the Thermaltake V1 heatsink that I use is too big and the fan blades of the 80mm fan smack into the copper(?) fins (making a terrible noise) of the Thermaltake V1. Plus, I'm too lazy to take the 80mm fan out, and it's been there for years. My monitor is an Acer X193w bd TN panel with a maximum resolution of 1440x900 and a refresh rate of 60hz. It has a small splotch of dead pixels from when I got mad and threw a screw driver in a random direction, hitting the monitor. Bloody little screw would go in the damn hole... I punished myself for hurting my monitor by fasting for three days with no food and only enough water to sustain my impure life.
