  1. Sorry this is long... I am running a MSi B560M Mortar, 11700k, and four sticks (32gb) of this memory: https://www.newegg.com/oloy-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820821426?Item=N82E16820821426 The issue I've been having is that my pc will not shut down, it will always just automatically click back on like I've hit "restart" instead. This has persisted with windows 10 and 11. I tried removing my video card (Ventus 3080ti) and using the video output on the motherboard and the problem went away. It also went away when I tried a different gpu, so obviously I thought it was my gpu. However, when I tried my gpu in another system I was not able to replicate the problem. I suspected it could be a memory problem when a few months ago my pc randomly crashed and I got a XMP error message, but nothing since. I also get weird artifacting in Chrome sometimes, but only Chrome. So I tried removing two RAM sticks and viola the shutting down problem went away. I then tried each RAM stick individually until I got one that wouldn't boot, the CPU led lit up red on the motherboard, so I figured I must have solved it by finding a bad RAM stick. However, I went through all of them individually again just to be sure; the next stick I tried booted but I did get a XMP error message, but otherwise every stick booted up and performed fine. However, when I moved the suspected bad one to a different slot and paired it with another supposedly good stick, then it didn't post again. Yet, when I tried it again then it was good... I also tried the suspected bad stick in another system and had no problems there either. I tried running a memory test with MemTest64 and got no issues but only ran it like 4 cycles. I want to say it's that bad RAM stick but I can't be sure anymore. I'm currently typing this running that single module. It's just weird that removing/changing the gpu was another solution to the shutting down issue. So is it potentially a motherboard problem, like a power delivery issue? I don't know anymore and don't know what my next move should be.
  2. Heck yeah i'd go back. I honestly think about that scenario all the time because of how many things I screwed up in my life. I wasted a lot of money, wasted education/career opportunities, lost friends, wrecked my health in various ways, my biggest regret by far being hearing damage. And just imagine collecting as much BTC as you could and watching it 500x.
  3. I unsubbed from GN a long time ago and agree with much of the criticism here. He seemed like the type of guy with a superiority complex obliged to give the final word on everything. He always seemed bored, exasperated, and amused by new products that don't meet his standards. Like if a new cpu wasn't a big enough improvement over last gen's then the engineers who made it are idiots; moreover, you're an idiot for even considering to buy one. In all fairness I think a lot of tech reviewers are guilty of trying to make themselves look smart and important by pooping all over a big company's new product. GN just seems like the type of guy who'd be really hard to work with or be friends with irl.
  4. My PC will not stay shut down. It will power off, but then a second later it just clicks on automatically again. I've never had this problem with windows 10 before, it only started about 6 months after building my new PC. This has been an issue for probably almost a year, but I leave my PC on a lot so never bothered to deal with it. There was a time when, after it'd restart to the login screen, it would shut down successfully from there, but for months now even that isn't working. If I want to power off my PC I have to hold the power button and I'm worried that's not good for it. I've googled this issue and tried pretty much all the recommended fixes but nothing has worked. I feel like I need to reinstall Windows 10 at this point but I'm starting to wonder if this is actually a hardware issue, like my mobo is crap (so sorry if this is actually in the wrong forum). It's a daily occurrence that I randomly get the Windows notification sound by itself with nothing to indicate why. If anybody has more ideas to fix, or how to determine if it's a hardware issue I'm all ears. Whatever the case I feel like this is going to be a pita to fix. Kinda want to get another mobo and a quieter psu anyway... My PC specs: 11700k (never oc'd) MSi B560M Mortar wifi MSi Ventus 3080ti 32gb 3600mhz ram 1TB Crucial P5 Plush M.2 750W psu Super Flower
  5. Thanks I guess now I'm deciding what version, Home or Pro, to install, and where to get the cheapest legit Windows key.
  6. Just to make sure I understand, are you saying we don't necessarily have to wipe the drive before doing a clean install of Windows? I currently have Windows 10 and want to do a clean install of Windows 11, leaving no trace or partitions that would still have all the old Windows 10 stuff.
  7. I just ordered a 3080ti. It's still expensive as hell, but I'm guessing the 40 series is either going to be delayed until holiday 2023 or there's going to be availability and price gouging issues again. There's many newer games I've put off playing, at least at 4k at the settings I want, and I'm sick of waiting to upgrade. The necessary psu and case upgrade I needed also happened to be on sale so I guess that pushed me over the edge also haha. I guess I'll feel stupid if an equivalent 40 series card goes on sale for like $600 in the next couple months, but I doubt it. Until that happens I'm just going to enjoy what I have.
  8. I have 200mbps charter spectrum internet, got a new modem last year, but still running an old Linksys e2500 that I got for free. Devices on it are two PCs, two phones, maybe a ps4 and switch, usually only two devices at once. I'm wireless and usually my speeds are around 30-45mbps but sometimes it just randomly drops to less than 5mbps. I don't know if that's my router being old and overworked or my internet throttling, don't know a lot about networking. I want to buy a new router but they're expensive and don't want to waste money on it if my issue is just spectrum being crap.
  9. Tried this and still have the same problem. Maybe I should have clarified that I don't get any kind of boot screen, monitor gets no signal until it posts straight to the Windows sign in. If I hit DEL on bootup or use the Advanced Restart feature then it doesn't post, no signal to my monitor even though the PC is powered on, only thing I can do then is hit the power/reset button. A weird thing is that if I try rebooting to the UEFI with the advanced restart option my speakers will make a faint crackle noise for a second. Starting to wonder if it's a gpu issue that is preventing it from posting the boot screen or UEFI, still annoying that this only started happening after the Windows Hello crap and it's driving me nuts.
  10. Motherboard is a MSi b560. Mashing f10 and f2 didn't work, and it's annoying because since setting up Windows Hello it's like there's a security setting I can't find which is blocking the PC from posting anything until the Windows login screen. I'm thinking about just backing up my important files and upgrading to Windows 11 and maybe that will reset everything? Or just wiping the drive and doing a clean install. I just hate dealing with hard drive crap, gives me major anxiety about bricking it and losing stuff.
  11. I'm running Windows 10 and I can't access the UEFI, either by hitting DEL on bootup or through the "Advanced Startup" option. I also don't get the typical motherboard info that flashes on screen during bootup anymore. This all started after I set up the Windows Hello thing which required me to make a PIN to login to my PC, definitely wishing I had not done that because I don't need that much security for my PC. I got rid of that but not being allowed to access the UEFI has persisted. I'd be eternally grateful if somebody could help me fix this.
  12. The Harry Potter movies don't deserve the celebration they get. They're feeble adaptations full of baffling directorial decisions. I think we've all seen this youtube clip: That's probably the most absurd example but the movies are littered with ridiculous crap like this. Beyond that, the acting and the scene spacing are really awkward, like this scene: But I won't blame the actors, that's just incompetent directing. I get that Luna is supposed to be awkward but instead of that scene being silly and innocent it's like the director told everybody to act scared and confused by her??? How crap like this gets a passing grade is beyond frustrating.
  13. I'm a car guy and have been driving almost exclusively manual transmission cars for 20 years. It is a lot of fun having complete control over the engine's rev range and executing a perfect upshift on hard acceleration feels really good (though I've never bothered to master heel-toe downshifts..). Driving a manual is so second nature to me now that I think I'd miss the fun that comes with that control more than I would appreciate the convenience of automatic gear changes. I'm from Michigan and no way would I go without ABS. There's really no substitute for being able to slam on the brakes without them locking up and spinning out of control.
  14. I was able to watch the launch, and gosh the whole thing is so nerve-wracking, praying everything keeps going perfectly. Been looking forward to this for months, can't wait to see what we'll discover deep in the cosmos.

I've never heard of that response being a bitchy cliche. If your tone isn't getting through their persistent, thick skulls then you're justified in giving them a reality check. Clueless guys won't understand you're closed for business unless the door is shut and locked, so do yourself the favor.
