Thanks, that must be the first reading indeed.

  2. Hi jaslion, Thanks for the detailed reply. I understand your points. I know it is not the best way to do gaming. I just find the approach funny and see that more as a challenge and way to learn things. But yes, I'll keep in mind that despite being a 2 CPU setup, we need to consider it as a 1 CPU setup regarding gaming. See point #4 below for CPU upgrade. 1. Ok, but except for the GPU, I think I already have everything I need. 2. The Cisco C240 M3 does have and extra 8-pin plug for GPU as it can accept two NVIDIA GRID K1 or K2 (130-225W) or Tesla K40 (235W). And there is enough space to fit dual slot GPU up to 10.9inch length. 3. That what I thought , great. 4. After more research, I can fit 2x Intel Xeon E5-2643 v2 (3.5GHz) that I have in hand into the Cisco C240 M3. Which would be a good match with a GTX 1660 super (<10% CPU bottleneck). 5. Ok, the chassis got 4 PCI-e full height + 1 PCI-e low profile, So I can fit a USB3.0 card + GPU without blocking air flow. 6. ^^ when I'm done playing with it, I will probably reuse the GPU for a real gaming rig and keep the server as ... a server (web, mail, NAS) Thanks, PingouinDuNord
  3. Hello, This is my first post on that forum, despite following LTT for few years on youtube. So Hi! I enjoy tech and mostly building stuff rather than using it. My background is: electronic engineering with basic knowledge about IT I'm a little bit fed up about my dell optiplex SFF 780 (Core2 Quad Q9400, 2x4GB DDR3 1066MHz, Ati radeon HD 6450 1GB). It is good to play the classics such as Diablo II and others Starcraft, Warcraft. However, I would like to play some more demanding games, 1080p 60FPS at mid to low settings. Lucky me, I will soon get two servers, thanks to a friend emptying his cellar.: 1. HP ProLiant DL360 G7 (1U), 2x Xeon X5670, 16x8GB PC3 10600R 2. Cisco UCS C240 M3 (2U), 2x Xeon E5-2640 (could upgrade to 2x E5-2667 but the extra 70W for just extra RAM speed doesn't sound right) 8x8GB PC3L-12800R (running at 1333MHz, could upgrade to 16x8GB PC3 12800R) I'm more interested to use the second one for gaming because it has 2 PCI-e x16 dual-slot 10.5inch with power connectors so I can easily plug a dual slot GPU not limited to 75W. The first one will probably end-up as a web server or NAS. I know that building a gaming PC with consumer components could be time saving, quieter, smaller, better. But I want to play with the server, and see that as an opportunity to learn things during the process. I look for topic regarding reusing server but beside a DL380 G7 topic, I could not find anything. So my questions are: 1. Is it feasible? 2. Is there any caveat I should be aware of? 3. Do you have some tutorial or checklist I could read before trying anything? 4. Which GPU would you recommend to pair with? I will try to keep power consumption low to avoid too much noise despite the server being in another room. I was thinking something like a 1660 super. Ideally I should upgrade to 2xE5-2667 v2 to avoid bottleneck. 5. Would USB3.0 PCI-e card be compatible with this family processor? X. Any other suggestions? Regards, PingouinDuNord
