  1. Overall the video was good, but I have just a small critique. I don't know if this was intentional or not, but the background music was really quiet. I could hear that it is there, but I couldn't really tell what it is through most of the video, so it didn't really add to the video. IMHO, I'm not even sure this particular video needed music, since Linus was narrating the entire time.
  2. It's his wife. There are several little hints sprinkled throughout the video. She's also helped film a couple of the more vlog-style videos lately.
  3. I use Excel on an almost daily basis. I have plenty of room on my desk. It doesn't make much sense to not have a 10 key on my keyboard for my primary PC.
  4. It used to be kept indefinitely. If I am remembering correctly, now it's only 2 weeks (unless it gets explicitly added to highlights).
  5. @Slick You can have your mom on the show anytime. It was a very entertaining WAN Show. Is she a member of the forum? I don't know her user name to tag her. Edit: I just realized You've had your brother on the WAN Show, and now your mom. Now you have to talk your dad into being a guest next time Linus is gone.
  6. Now I know this is a new platform both for you guys and in general and that these are technical issues that you guys can't directly fix, but you could relay them if enough people experience them. I haven't read through the majority of the posts on this thread, so there may be others having the same issues, but here are the things that I personally have had trouble with: -Middle mouse/wheel button doesn't open a new tab; It opens videos in the same tab. -Pausing the video causes it to stop loading. You pause the video, then unpause it a few seconds later and it continues playing for ~10 seconds then stops. You have to reload the page to get it to continue; skipping ahead or back also won't correct it like it normally would on other platforms. It also starts from the beginning when reloading; it doesn't remember where you were in the video before reloading. -No clickable hyperlinks in the descriptions. On a related note, It would be nice to have a link to a forum thread to go to when it goes live on Vessel and not wait until it is available on YouTube.
  7. trogdor0 https://www.vessel.com/videos/JLpxC_Zl9 https://www.vessel.com/videos/EskapF9Yn I would have included Scrapyard Wars if it was an option.
  8. I found an error. The video thumbnail should have read: "Oops," I did it again.
  9. I also would like an RSS feed. I prefer to keep my email limited to correspondence, not newsletters. I check my phone every time it vibrates telling me there is a new message. If I signed up for email newsletters, It would be going off all the time. Instead, I use feedly to keep up on news from the variety of websites that interest me.
  10. The majority of the PCs I've built have Intel CPUs and usually just use the stock cooler unless the person I build it for needs more cooling or specifically requests something else. I usually only build in quiet cases with plenty of sound dampening and don't really notice excessive noise at idle. I got a really good deal on a AMD FX CPU and mobo on Black Friday to use in a personal build. It's the the AMD stock heatpipe cooler, and boy is it loud. I didn't realize how loud it is at idle. I've played with the fan-speed curves and still am not satisfied. I'm in the market for a good, quiet cooler for it, so I'd like to see what Luke comes up with in another video.
  11. I just consider this implementation a test run for the new setup at the new office. Hopefully you'll have learned a thing or two and have fewer issues at the new office as a consequence. (Spoiler alert: there will still be problems and entertaining videos documenting them)
  12. Since the Wife Approval Rating is relatively low, I assume this will be someone's workstation at the new office.
  13. Interesting, I wasn't aware a quick-charge standard existed. It's not really my use case though. I'm one of those overnight chargers. I just put chargers next to where my phone will likely be for an extended period of time (by the bed, on the desk, etc.). I leave the chargers plugged-in. On a semi-related note: Over Christmas I was curious and I was testing idle power consumption (plugged-in without any devices attached) of a variety of USB chargers. This doesn't include consumption of charging the devices, just leaving the charger plugged in. Apple's charger was the cheapest to leave plugged in at a cost of ~$0.35 per year. The most expensive one was one of those outlets with a USB charger built in. I found it would cost me about $8 per year if it were left plugged in all the time (which, of course, it is since it has to be installed in the wall). FYI electricity costs me $0.07 per kWh (well below average). But, if you live in a place with more expensive electricity, It may be worth it to pay a little extra for a better charger.
  14. If I won one, I would definitely be replacing my current Core 2 Duo. It still works for most basic things, but I am overdue for an upgrade.
  15. Kuhler 1250 - because I've never built a liquid-cooled PC myself before.
  16. I have some semiconductor cleanroom experience. Cleaning semiconductor wafers of oils and other organic substances is a 2-step process. First, acetone is applied then spun off. Acetone is very effective, but can leave some residue. So afterwards, isopropyl alcohol is applied then spun off. That removes any residue that might remain. I would assume you could use a similar process for cleaning aluminum.
  17. I like the AMP! Omega over the Extreme. It's much more understated but still very solid looking.
  18. I would probably use a thumb drive over an external SSD at this point. I have a home server that I use to store basically everything and can access from anywhere with an Internet connection. For me I almost never have a reason to use any external storage devices, so the extra cost isn't justifiable.
  19. It's stylings are such that I could own one. I'm not someone who builds desktops with windowed side panels and LED lighting. If a device is really flashy, I'm much less likely to buy. The red stripe adds interest without being too flashy. The thing I would change is the DVD drive. If it doesn't have a drive capable of at least reading blu rays, then I would prefer no optical drive and have a larger battery or an SSD in it's space.
  20. The largest display that I own is 1920x1200. I don't know what I'd do with all those pixels. All I can say is that the screen quality look better than my current phone (an old 3GS). Also, I'd rather not have a removable battery and just have the battery be slightly larger, but to each his own.
  21. For as expensive as it is you'd think they could add an Ethernet port. I always use LAN (rather than WLAN) whenever possible. I've had a lot of bad experiences with Wi-fi-only printers at a variety of price points. However, I've never had a problem with network printers (or printer scanner fax combos) with an Ethernet port. Looking at how it folds up, I can see that it was designed so that it could be put away somewhere and then get pulled out and used at a moment's notice without much setup rather than sit out all the time. Even so, if I spent that much on a scanner, I would want an Ethernet port as an option, at least.
