silicon_lottery got a reaction from Lurick in So... What was it like building your first computer?
It was beautiful. On October 1, 2017, I pushed the power button for the first time. Hearing the whirr of the fans and the screen blip to life literally brought tears to my eyes. Me and my family, in a labor of love, had spent four grueling hours on it, and it worked, first try.
I will never forget that moment - literal chills!

First build was in 2008 and I pushed the power button and nothing. I got super scared I ruined like $1000 of PC parts and messed something up but after fiddling around and worrying like crazy I realized I didn't plug in the supplemental CPU power. Once that was done it worked

The EKWB shop has plenty of items that will help you build it. I haven't messed around with liquid cooling beyond a few Youtube videos and Internet advice, though, so you may want to take advice from some more senior members.
But hey, it's the thought that counts!

We don't have enough info to provide you with an accurate answer. Which program(s) are you using and why do you need a new computer? It might not be the CPU that is bottlenecking you and if that's the case it won't get any faster no matter which CPU you buy.

You didn't even give us a budget!
Stop focusing on which logo is on the box and start focusing on comparing two specific chips in the same price range.

I'm sorry... but I don't think that answered the question. Yes, AMD has good specs for low price.
But have you thought this through?
What's your budget that you're willing to spend?
Would you still go with Intel?
And, echoing @LAwLz, what are the other specs of your computer? W
I'd love to help you out, but I need some more information.

Audio decoding and encoding usually favors fast single threads. I'm not familiar with your software exactly, but in general all audio processing software always favored faster single thread than bunch of slow cores. With Ryzen, you should be fine even with something like Ryzen 5 3600X. It's still 12 threads and boosts to 4.4GHz. That's pretty nice clock for single thread and you still have a lot of threads if they are needed. Though I'd personally wait for AMD to release Zen 3 if you're in no rush. They seem to be tweaking the logic how Ryzen CPU's turbo and they made quite an improvement with Zen 2 (3000 series). As for Intel, just take whatever boosts the highest as you'll benefit the most from that. They'll have plenty of cores at that point too anyway.

Here's a benchmarking website. In a nutshell, it's the Sapphire GPU because it has a little higher teraflop count, extra HDMI port, higher pixel rate, faster GPU turbo speed, 4GB more of RAM, and it's a little narrower and shorter as well.

Good luck with your build! ?

Go for it! Take @boggy77's advice with the Ryzen. Yes, you do need a different motherboard to support AMD (usually it's AM4). Just my $0.02, you should use PCPartPicker when building the PC. It's super useful and the built in compatibility check is perfect.

Edit: ninja'd by boggy77 but the point still stands.
