  1. So I think I could mount the stand to monitors rather than monitors to stand. Lay them both flat on desk screen part down. Making sure desk is clean and nothing scratches the screens. That would work right?
  2. My question is which one is better overall and for less neck movement. One above the other should be easier to mount. Side by side you need to mount both at same time, if I understand it right. I have not bought extra monitor yet, and it would be nice to test with just 1, less risk if something fails and falls.
  3. Perfect use case for 3D printer, make your own button... Clearly not reasonable sending whole case over.
  4. And then mounting mini PC to the back of monitor might be good for hiding even more cables. The only worry is quality thermal solution. Can't really install bigger fan in those tiny things. I just don't trust SSDs fully after one died on me. And day before drive reported 83% remaining life...
  5. 1 for power and 1 for signal equals 2, or is my math wrong? Other than that really appreciate your suggestions.
  6. Budget (including currency): no idea, but don't want to overspend Country: Latvia, Europe Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: SQL database read and write. Preferably with a way to connect USB C monitor. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Win 10 support coming to an end and it's time to upgrade office computers. Existing motherboard doesn't support newer CPU, so everything except recently replaced power supply will have to be changed. I might as well buy pre built. I was thinking getting rid of some cables at the same time. So could anyone suggest parts that would allow using USB C display without a GPU. Obviously need CPU with integrated graphics, I am thinking 4 cores maybe with clock speeds close to 5GHz. DDR4 RAM seems to make sense price wise. None of that overclocking or water cooling, just need stable system. What even is the most important when accessing and writing to database all day long? I am afraid SSD might not make it out alive if it has windows updates and database to deal with. How much does hard drive slow a database down, enough to make purchase of better CPU pointless? I was reading about moving some database related files to RAM disk, but that's not a build related question I understand.
  7. Never tried Win 11, I would only go for it if software or workplace demands it... At home, hell no! I don't know why developers can't keep making software that runs on Win 7... Win 11 is built on top of Win 10, basically is the same bloatware and I can't recommend either. The hours I have wasted wrestling errors on 2 work PCs after almost every update is just unreal.
  8. I am responsible for having backups, but reinstalling, really? I mean computer works, the update part is what fails. Can pause updates for a month, but after that problem is back.
  9. Is it even worth it? You can try different hosting, YouTube isn't whole world. Strange you don't include your YouTube account anywhere, not even on profile... I love music and would check out. No idea if you are any good at this, but I really want someone to make less heavy covers of band called Electric Callboy
  10. My laptop doesn't have a built-in function to switch screen off, so I made a script. Need AutoHotkey to run this or use compiled exe version, F2 stops the script. . Wonder if your screen will keep waking up every 40 milliseconds... #NoEnv ; Recommended for performance and compatibility with future AutoHotkey releases. ; #Warn ; Enable warnings to assist with detecting common errors. SendMode Input ; Recommended for new scripts due to its superior speed and reliability. SetWorkingDir %A_ScriptDir% ; Ensures a consistent starting directory. #SingleInstance force SetTimer, IdleCheck, 40 F2::SetTimer, IdleCheck, Off IdleCheck: If(A_TimeIdle<40) SendMessage,0x112,0xF170,2,,Program Manager Return screen INSTA saver.exe
  11. So I have tried to update win 10 PC at work a few times and it just never completes the update. I went and enabled verbose status messages in registry. Now I see PC gets stuck at stopping Update Orchestrator Service, 30 minutes, hour later still the same, I am forced to shut computer down via power button even though I know it's bad... As it's office computer I can only troubleshoot on weekends and it's getting rather annoying. If this was my own PC I would just stop updates completely, but no such luck. Any ideas?
  12. Do you keep both monitors on while gaming? Them running at different resolutions and refresh rates could be the problem. Surely 1440p @165Hz is asking for too much. You either go with high refresh rate or high resolution, not both. I would use the 1080p Acer for heavy games. 1440p might be decent for browser based games with loads of small details... But I never played any of games you keep complaining about so maybe I am wrong, we come from different worlds, I have never paid for a game, quite opposite, I am mostly playing games where I can win Bitcoin rewards lately...
  13. Position on screen I assume. Best might be hibernation instead of complete shutdown. That way you can continue with things you had and where you had em.
  14. You don't need more than 100Hz for work though and as you say problems only happen when you push it. Either bad USB-c cable or too much power draw that laptop can't sustain...
  15. Not supposed to interrupt driver installation by shutdown, but weird that you can't get into safe mode. Unplug power, remove battery if it is removable, hold power button for 30 seconds to discharge and reset. Then plug power back in at try turning it back on, if no go try inserting USB with windows recovery or linux...
  16. Power isn't getting cheaper, I consider power consumption part of product cost. Now to find a portable monitor that has a decent stand solution, so it doesn't wreck itself by falling... Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
  17. External SSD is limited by USB speeds and also shares bandwidth with other USB devices... Works good enough for linux, but windows not so much... You would be better off with SATA SSD, as those are cheaper for mass storage. And you can stick it wherever even on double sided tape if there is no mounting bracket. But SATA drives also need 2 cables, 1 for data, 1 for power.
  18. Was windows pre-installed or did this happen during installation? Do you have a windows recovery USB stick?
  19. Is there also noise like CPU fan spinning hella fast? Always good idea to check for loose cables, don't want them to get pulled into fan blades...
  20. I know eink would use less power, but 1 phone with such screen is enough for me, big size color eink is not a thing yet either. I think I have made my mind on getting IPS rathen than VA, but most monitors I run into have really bad power consumption, probably old models on local stores... I am ready to order from abroad, hopefully it survives the delivery. Is there a reliable source to check monitor power consumption? Am I right to think that 75Hz refresh rate will use more power than 60Hz?
  21. Editing and shooting are different things. As said above you can edit whatever, but I don't know anyone who bought a camera that records at 1440p...
  22. Well I am not one of them... I like falling asleep listening to something, so got myself sleepphones. Basically a headband with slim built-in speakers. During the day I can blast music, don't care what other people think as long as it's about me as the song goes...
  23. Wireless is almost guaranteed to feel worse. You can plug ISP cable into router and use more Ethernet cables to connect multiple wired devices... If the router is bad even for wired connections, get a network switch. I don't trust wireless when doing anything important, but my problem is worse because all I get from ISP is the router.
  24. Real ones are not worth buying either, who sticks things into their ears by free will? Oh wait we live in world where people allow nose swabs too...
  25. Lineage OS works on many devices including Raspberry Pi, good enough experience. Even though screen is shifted to the right a few pixels and I can't seem to fix that. Old devices wih low RAM will feel snappier if you stick with sideloading and don't install google play store. But with 1 GB of RAM, maybe look for android GO based stuff...
