  1. Panels are like 200 usd in retail. If you think its too broken, just disassemble the panel and check if there is any damage under the panel.

    Backlight bleed has nothing to do with panel type. Its manufacturing flaw. You probably had IPS glow in mind.
  3. Exactly, how often do you use thermal paste? A 3-5 times. maybe 7, before it will expire. Going to cheap on 5-10 dollars every 5-7 years is some extreme frugalism.

  8. All manufacturers pump crap without much QC these days. I dont know about alienware so i cant really compare. I would leave Acer out definitely, they are the worst in QC department. Just look the monitor from either Asus or Dell[Alienware] and check the opinions, topics, and reviews. If you see less nagging about particular monitor then probably it has better QC. QC is easily resolved by returning monitor and ordering a replacement, so it is just inconvenience-unless you are unlucky and have to return few displays and get on an amazon blacklist . As for performance, you also need to look at reviews and what people say, but most people has abysmal knowledge about displays so take it with a grain of salt[weed out village idiot opinions, particularly on newegg and amazon].

  10. I mean 250cd/m2 is perfectly enough even in well lit room. The 400cd/m2 and HDR is a pretty gimmick, for highlights/sun in game, but tbh i dont like it -i dont like to squint my eyes when playing a game . Currently using 300cd/m2 monitor and i run it at half brightness/half contrast and its too bright when the sun is not illuminating my room. I wish monitors would come with smart/auto brightness option to match the ambient light in the room. Seriously smartphones on windows 10 have such option, and its 2019 and we dont have that in monitors. Just slap a friggin photosensor diode on the back/front and let us calibrate brightness curve in correlation with sensor data.
  11. 24 inch at 1 1/2 feet needs a high resolution for appropriate visual fidelity, a 4k res would be ideal. 1080p would be bad, unless you have shortsightedness

    Ok so my opinion is, that Asus will be a good monitor. It has a decent color palette, poor contrast ratio, so overall it will suffice for gaming. It has excellent response time. Its 24 inch so not too big for TN causing problems like in 27 inch and more. If you want that monitor then buy it you wont be dissapointed. If you want IPS then wait for 1080p 144hz ips. Many people think that IPS are some GOD tier shit, because they had old TNs with sub 90% sRGB gamut so they changed it to modern IPS and voila everyhing is beter. But a good modern TN will almost match in color a mediocre IPS panel[and they are basically on the same price point]. Seriously you would be hard pressed to find differences.   13. What kind of pro you are? The pro that lives from gaming?Do you want to become such player? If such, then go for 240Hz monitor[1080p is enough, you wont even use it as pros play in lower resolution to be able to score headshots easier], otherwise if your "competitiveness" is just scoring K/D and bragging before friends or on reddit, then i wouldnt bother with 240Hz. The first post in this topic that says that tournaments use 144hz is wrong. Almost all CS GO pros have moved to 240hz. Whether its because of sponsors giving them these monitors, or their own decision, doesnt matter, the standard is 240hz now for pro players.

    I dont know what you do. If you are FPS player that only care about K/D, then go for the fastest monitor like this Asus. If you like to play other games beside FPS and like picture quality then go for IPS. Its really simple. I like FPS games, im not a pro player i dont care if my K/D will be 0,1 lower because i have worse monitor, i dont have RGB gaming mouse and keyboard and gaming chair

    Viewing angles always sucked, suck and will suck on TN monitor. I wouldnt want a TN monitor that is greater than 24 inch, because you will basically have discolouration/gamma issue on the sides because of these poor viewing angles.

  17. For a normal viewing distances, you would need a 20 inch 1080p display to match a 27 inch 1440p display for the same visual fidelity. And 20 inch is too small for immersion. The bullshit talk about PPI is really annoying. Yes you can have a smartphone with 6 inch screen with a 640x480 resolution having same visual fidelity as 27 1440p from normal viewing distance, but seriously who would like to play like that, when you can have this fidelity at a much larger screen? I can watch 144p from 2 meters away and have same fidelity as 27 1440p from 5 meters, but you can't workaround about fact that at this distance your eyes wont resolve fine details otherwise seen from close distance. You also cant workaround about the fact that 144p vs 1440p will always have more pixels, hence more POSSIBLE INFORMATION [imagine a situation where pixel size or dot size as it is called has same physical size, so 24 1080p vs 32 1440p, you still get more details on the same objects ingame, given the same ingame FoV!, example object take 1/6 of horizontal width of screen, in 1920 its 320px, in 1440p its 427 px ] , and for example on 144p you wont see a fine mesh no matter how close you watch the screen, whereas on 1440p you will, given the normal viewing distances. So this bullshit talk about PPI is completely detached from reality. When comparing monitors always assume realistic scenario -a viewing distance of 0,6m, an eye FoV of 140*. You want to fill this FoV while still being on the boundary of Visual Acuity distance.     It's 8ms on average, so not really. You want all transitions to be close to 6,94 ms, with +/- 2ms tolerance, since you won't notice that small amount of ghosting. I reckon that C24G1 probably has some poor G2G reponse times, since its a cheap VA. Only the best VA can get to 10-12 ms G2G response times, poor ones are around 20-35ms. You can't know that for sure without review, or without testing the monitor yourself. Cheap IPS can sometimes have also horrible response time for G2G in 18-20ms range, but i would still choose cheap IPS over cheap VA for gaming, if you dont want TN. You will have a hard time to find a cheap TN in 2018/2019 that has G2G greater than 8ms.

    Must have been some cheap TN or really old. The first 144Hz monitors were just overclocked 60hz displays, and had nowhere near the reponse time to be called true 144hz.
  20. According to this calculator, you are sitting too close to the monitor.The minimum viewing distance for 50 inch 16:9 monitor is 0,79m. You are wasting some peripheral screen space.   21. Its funny saying 1440p is a normal resolution. It will be dead in few years, because its not an industry standard. It still has a good longevity when compared to 16:10 resolutions, which were super popular for few years, and all that vanished in the blink of an eye. Back then people also said that 16:10 is future :D. 4K will be a new standard and i reckon that a 500usd 4k 144hz monitors with IPS will be available in 5 years max. Until then, if you have the spare cash, go ahead and buy 1440p 144hz.

    No, if you want to play FPS shooters mostly i wouldn't bother with VA, same for cheap IPS. On top of motion blur, which is an innate thing in LCDs, you also get smearing. You'll get accustomed to it, as with most things, because eyes adapt, but if you ever watched high end monitor you will know what to look for and that there's a difference. You can immediately notice when a VA panel has 20-30ms G2G response, in comparison to TN with 4ms G2G reponse. You will see trails when scrolling gray text on gray background. If you see smearing behind these black squares in this test, it means your monitor has poor G2G[rather B2G] response https://www.testufo.com/eyetracking
