  1. It could be an issue with your mobiles/ PC's DAC, so a dedicated one might be a/ the solution to go for. Before you run to Amazon and buy one, however: If you have the chance to go to a local audio shop (provided the current COVID situation allows for that) I'd try to test out an external DAC before buying one blind sighted. They might also have a known good 3.5mm -> 2.5mm cable lying around that you can test your headphones with.
  2. As @Yo soy Jack said, cleaning the lid with soap (and potentially giving it a tooth paste finish ) won't hurt. When in doubt you can get rid of that toothpaste easy enough anyway. I found a refurbished 60 GB 2.5" one on newegg (18 $): https://www.newegg.com/p/1Z4-001R-006N4?Description=2.5 ide hard drive&cm_re=2.5_ide hard drive-_-9SIAAY9B9S4271-_-Product Edit: Considering that your video will be about retro tech I'd not worry about the scratches too much. That's the story of the laptop after all, it gets "patina"
  3. Hey datnonameboii, using headphones with a 3.5mm to 2.5mm cable doesn't change the audio quality, it's just a different connector but equivalent from a audio signal perspective. While I don't have the Bose 700 myself I could imagine that you might have to switch on your headphones even when in wired mode (for a potential amp in your headphones driving the actual speakers to work). If that doesn't resolve the issues: Do you have another 3.5mm -> 2.5mm cable at hand to check whether maybe your trouble is caused by a broken cable? Hope that helps
  4. Hi Etechplayer, I unfortunately could not dig up an express card 34 Bluetooth adapter (at least not with a five minute research ). However there are USB 3 adapters for EC 34 (like this one from StarTech: https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-ExpressCard-SuperSpeed-Adapter-Support/dp/B00BB7TVMO/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=expresscard+to+usb+adapter&qid=1607526239&sr=8-5). These adapters (should) sit flush with your laptops case, giving you a decently fast port for a mini Bluetooth dongle that has, while being plugged into a USB port, a small footprint, so it shouldn't be too annoying However, be advised that I don't know anything about the software compatibility of the above mentioned adapter with your OS, so check that out before you buy such a card. I hope that helped Best regards, Kon-Tiki
  5. Well, in this case I'm out of ideas as far as the trash bin is concerned. Maybe it will show up some time Also, did you check for hidden files on your system?
  6. As far as I can tell it should work, at least when not using hidden containers. A RAID array doesn't care which form the data it stores has (i.e. whether it is encrypted or not). However, as data security is at concerned be advised that this opinion is explicitly without any warranty! Furthermore, even if you have a RAID 5/6 you should still always have an independent backup, not so much for security against a drive failure but rather to be protected against a scrambled up array (be it a failed RAID controller or a software issue). To test the setup for your specific use case you could set up the RAID 5/6 array (whatever you end up using) and then create a test volume with VeraCrypt containing some dummy data. Then unplug one of your drives to simulate a drive failure, completely wipe the removed drive and then re-initialize it. This will also give you some practice how to deal with an actual drive failure. Hope that helps Best regards
  7. But you are using Windows, aren't you? Edit: Just asking, because I'd really wonder if you hadn't one (unless you "deleted" it which I'm not sure is possible). Maybe it's just hidden and not shown in the explorer?
  8. I've had instances where files would not be deleted but instead moved into the trash bin, thus still occupying space. Might be worth a shot
  9. One major "difference" when it comes to using Python is that the official support for Python 2.X ended earlier this year. This means that Python 2.7 will neither get any improvements nor security fixes going forward (the latter one being the bigger issue).
  10. For what you described 2GB seems fine indeed. I haven't worked with video that much unfortunately so that isn't something I can help you with. A google search will, however, guide you to a lot of DIY guides on this topic. As far as ad blocking is concerned I've made good experiences with Pihole a while ago. It's easy to install and maintain and does the job really well. For a NAS you could go for OpenMediaVault. It has a powerful web-based administration interface and makes configuring different shares relatively easy (once you've gotten the hang of it). There are also good tutorials out there about how to set it up. Time controlled boot has to be implemented via external hardware as far as I know. But again, Google (or any other search engine of your liking ;)) is your friend in this regard. All the best with your project PS.: Don't forget to take care of a backup of you NAS regularly (can be configured in OpenMediaVault using a second drive)
  11. Do you get any display output at all (like pre-boot sequence screen)? Otherwise you could try to use a different port on your GPU. Also try to trigger manual input search on your monitor after starting up. I have a monitor that likes to get stuck on a not connected input and doesn't recover from that until I specifically tell it to look for new connections xD.
  12. I agree with @BrinkGG. It should be no major problem, of course under the assumption that you're not going to serve a whole company network off it Generally the Pi 4's CPU shouldn't let you down for most tasks, obviously depending on the workload. If you're planning on doing a lot of media encoding/ decoding for your Cameras (multiple cameras running simultaneously) while having a lot of traffic from the network tracker you might run into performance bottlenecks, though. That said, if this is what I think it is (a home network project ) then I'd see no reason why it shouldn't work. Take @mahyar's advice and go with the 4 GB version and you should be off to the races good to go. As far as stability is concerned: It should be no problem, at least I find my Pi 4 to run as a server very reliably.
  13. As far as I know VLC media player is capable of converting media files. However I haven't used it that much my self so you'd have to try whether it fits your specific needs.
  14. Hi R4ZEL That is a strange problem. As far as the hard drive usage is concerned: During startup your OS loads different data into RAM, so seeing a spike in usage during this time is normal. Especially if you have a spinning disk (as opposed to a SSD) this leads to sluggish behaviour during this time. Your screenshot shows disk usage being in the range of 13% which seems fine to me. As for the processor I unfortunately don't have an immediate idea about what could have caused it. I'd therefore suggest you check your BIOS settings to see whether some setting seems suspicious with respect to CPU clock speeds. I hope that helps :) Best regards, Kon-Tiki
  15. Hi Paul, there are many different options for file syncing out there depending on what you want to do (using a cloud provider for example or setting up a NAS in your local network). This Wikipedia page gives a good overview on what there is on the market: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_file_synchronization_software As far as the connection between your PC and the Surface is concerned: As long as both are in the same network, local sharing (e.g. via a NAS) should work without a problem. Should you opt for a cloud based solution you only need internet connectivity. Best regards, Kon-Tiki
  16. I disagree with jaslion. Having one M.2 NVMe drive and a single GPU (and nothing else as you stated) installed is certainly not going to render all your remaining PCIe slots unusable. The most thing that could happen is that your GPU is downgraded to PCIe 3.0 x8 instead of x16. Have you checked that the M.2 drive you are trying to install is actually a NVMe drive and not a SATA drive using the M.2 interface?
  17. Hi, that sounds like an interesting problem. After which time does the "black out" usually happen? Does this problem also occur when you have the game running in the menu and which stress tests did you run?
  18. A lot of MOBOs have integrated status LEDs telling you if everything is working (check your boards manual to get further details). Furthermore, even if your PSU was working a few days ago, do you have another one (known to be good) at hand (maybe a friend can borrow you one) to test whether the system works?
  19. It often happens that when you install an OS it writes a boot menu entry to the BIOS/ UEFI which remains there until you reset it. I guess the second "UEFI OS" entry is from your previous windows installation. On my test system which I frequently install new OSs to I have a multitude of boot options for various operating systems that don't exist any more. It's nothing to worry about and you can safely ignore it.
  20. Do you get any error code on the motherboard? Also, have you tested the PSU to be working correctly?
  21. Hi, have you tried reinstalling popOS? If so, did the same thing happen again? One possible explanation for the SQUASHFS error might be that you pulled the installation medium too early leading the system to look for something on it that it obviously could not find. I would suspect that it shouldn't be an issue moving on, though, as the installation process should have finished by the point you rebooted anyway. If you want to be 100% sure, just reinstall popOS. If you choose to reinstall, wait for popOS to tell you that you can safely remove the installation medium after clicking the reboot option at the end of the installation (something like "Remove installation medium and press enter to reboot."). As far as the boot order is concerned I don't see what should be wrong with it. As far as the boot logo is concerned I'd not worry if I didn't see it Hope that helps. Best regards, Kon-Tiki
  22. Whether the GPU is better I'd judge upon whether you want ray tracing or not :)
  23. The HD60 Pro only relies on a HDMI Input from the video card, so I don't see a reason why there should be a problem in using it with a GTX 750 Ti. Regards, Kon-Tiki
