help Is my MSI Gaming X 1660Ti too hot with my OC?
Rancidpunk replied to SethKrazy's topic in Graphics Cards
My Asus 1660 ti Dual OC runs at 86c with the factory overclock. I messed about with the fan curves to see if I could get it to run cooler but tbh the only thing that makes it run cooler is setting the max temp to 75c and putting up with lower performance. -
It's the better cpu for his use case scenario, he does explain that his system is for gaming for which the 10600k is a lot better than the 3700x and the op doesn't seem to require 8 cores. No need to jump on anything that isn't AMD as an option.

It shouldn't matter but since it's a first boot in a new build it would be better to have the ram in the correct channels.

If you are just gaming this bundle from scan.co.uk is pretty good for a 10600k, mobo and ram https://www.scan.co.uk/products/3xs-z490-hardware-bundle-intel-core-i5-10600k-comet-lake-asus-prime-z490-p-16gb-ddr4

Your RAM is in the wrong slots in that video, use the same colour slots. iirc the manual said to use the blue ones.

Recent instability and high temps
Rancidpunk replied to the7seal's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I had exactly the same with my H110i, the pump was still working but at very slow speed. Could have been blocked pipes or rad but I never bothered finding out, just went back to air since it was out of warranty. -
Am i being thermal throttled???

Looks like your cpu is getting a bit hot, are you using the stock cooler? -

Will an Artic Freezer 34 eSports duo outperform a Noctua NH-u12s?
Rancidpunk replied to bappled's topic in Cooling
I had the 34 Duo on my Ryzen 3600 first, kept the temps down nicely around 65c on a stress test. It's on my 9400f now which maxes out at 59c in stress test. I can't compare it to the Noctua as I've never had one but it certainly does the job!- 11 replies

Sorry, my mistake! It seems strange that your CPU is struggling so much. What cooler have you got on the CPU? It might not be boosting if temps are getting too high.

If you are worried about your GPU temps you can use the EVGA Precision X1 software to tune it to run cooler. My Asus 1660 ti was set a target temps of 85c by default so I wound it back to 75c instead with the Asus software and with a bit of tinkering with the fan curves I get the same performance at less heat but a bit more noise.

Amd Vs Intel and Gtx vs Rtx
Rancidpunk replied to The curious James's topic in New Builds and Planning
So why would you recommend expensive storage to someone trying to build a gaming rig? He's not editing video or audio or we would be telling him to buy Ryzen so any money he can save on unnecessary costs can go towards a better GPU. When are you actually going to explain why he needs this faster expensive storage?- 25 replies

I have it open on a second screen sometimes to see if the usage is high on new games so the max helps but mostly I watch it in real time.

I use CPUID HWMonitor.

There are quite a few at different settings if you google "witcher 3 6700k gtx 1080". The overclocked 6700k @4.6 ghz seems to be bottlenecked even by a 1080 ti!

Looking at benchmark videos for your cpu and gpu on Witcher 3 it's your GPU that is holding you back.

Game Pass for Pc any good games? what should i play?
Rancidpunk replied to The Torrent's topic in PC Gaming
Kingdom Come - Deliverance is good fun. -
That's not me bragging btw, I'm just wondering how it's happening on your system. How much ram have you got and at what speed?

Haven't played Destiny 2 but in Modern Warfare it hovers round 70% on a couple of cores and a lot lower on the other 4. I play MW at 144 hz @ 1080p on high/ultra settings and get roughly 160 - 170 fps.

Amd Vs Intel and Gtx vs Rtx
Rancidpunk replied to The curious James's topic in New Builds and Planning
Why do you need such fast storage for a system that has an nvme boot drive? On partpicker SSD's start at $0.093 per Gb and HDD's begin around $0.027 per Gb so he can get huge amounts of storage for a third of the cost while still having a fast boot drive.- 25 replies
