  1. I'm rocking a 970, but if I won, i'd probably give the card to a friend that's suffering from low resolutions and low framerates.
  2. Love the compact stuff! Would be nice to have one of these for a home theater system
  3. Update #5 - Upgrades! Hi all! I finally got tired of the rattling sound that the stock cooler's fan made, so I decided to get a better cooler. I bought the Bequiet Shadow Rock LP that I mentioned in a previous post. It's fairly inexpensive and fits in the case . Also since the prices of DDR3 memory have dropped a lot, I got a second stick of RAM as well. I'd have to remove the cooler again to upgrade RAM later. Installing the cooler was pretty easy. It was much harder to decide which way I wanted to mount it. According to the cooler and memory documentation it wasn't supposed to fit that way, but it did and I'm glad it did. This way the fan has much more room to get fresh air underneath the power supply. The stock cooler looks like a joke compared to this one It was actually quite a close fit! Here's the completed build. I did my best to route the cables nicely, but there's not much room to work with. I also made some custom dust filters. I know it's not the most elegant solution, but the shipping of DEMCIflex filters is way too expensive and you can't see them from the outside anyways. I hope you have enjoyed this build log and to finish this off, here's a picture of the SG13 with my cat in the background
  4. An update coming in a few days
  5. I haven't Installed an OS on it yet, but I think it will do fine with Ubuntu.
  6. The only thing I did pay for, was a new power cable because I didn't have an extra.
  7. If you had read the first post, you would know this is not my main computer.
  8. Yes, I am aware of that all of the parts are old . That's one of the reasons why my school was throwing them away.
  9. Hey guys! This is a (hopefully) quick log of me putting together some parts I got from school. They were throwing away old computers and having them disassembled for recycling. Anyone who wanted, could take parts from there and because I was a little late to the party, the best parts were already taken. No worries though, I still got enough components for a somewhat usable system. I'm going to use it as a secondary PC just to fool around with Ubuntu and possibly other operating systems besides Windows. [Shameless self-plug] Main desktop build log here [Shameless self-plug/] Since I don't have a case for it, I'm going to mount everything to an old motherboard tray with double-sided tape, hence the name . Let's look at the parts I got, shall we? The CPU is a dual-core AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000+ For the motherboard I've got an Asus M2N68-AM, a decent little Micro-ATX board. I can even overclock with this thing but it lacks any kind of case fan slots, not that I need any Ram is handled by a low-profile, 2GB DDR2 stick from Kingston The video card is some unknown low-end Asus card For storage I have a whopping 160GB Samsung hard drive, and the PSU a random one in the 400W range and I believe that's it. Pictures of the completed system in the next update

He has tubing inside the frame, so the liquid doesn't make contact with the metal.

This is awesome and so creative!
  12. Update #4 - Better late than never Hey everyone, I'd like to apolgize for not posting anything here at all. As I finished the build, I got carried away with school and everything else, I kind of forgot about this thread and wasn't following the forums overall. (still watched linus's videos :P ) The two missing parts from the last post were the hard drive and case fan. I'm really pleased with the fan as it is pretty quiet. The hard drive though isn't as quiet as I'd hoped but I can live with it. I wish it was as clean with all of the cables. Thanks to the SFX-L power supply and the way I installed it, I have more than 80mm of clearance for the CPU cooler. I might upgrade to a BeQuiet low profile cooler sometime (no promises). Thanks for following and have a great day !
  13. Update #3 - Testing Hardware Sorry for not posting updates in a while, I've been enjoying the only sunny days this summer. I did get done with the test build though. I knew it would require a lot of force but It was still really scary to push down the lever on the CPU, as this was my first time installing one. Here is everything connected and ready to test And it booted! Everything seems fine by me so I'll continue building it Also I should get the two remaining parts tomorrow. Thanks for tuning in, see You next time!
