  1. with a pair of new wireless devices, i went and ordered an adaptor that plugs into a motherboard header and turns it into two USB type-a ports so i can set my receivers inside the case. works as expected and saves a pair of ports on the back. If I'm lucky, it might, in theory anyway, make for a better wireless connections as they are closer and there's less metal case between the mouse/keyboard, and the receivers.
  2. Replaced my keyboard and mouse, so far the keyboard sounds nice to my ear, and feels good too. Don't need to do anything to it to make me happy. The new mouse, I'm liking the shape(I use a fingertip grip) and the weight is nice. I'm a big fan of these lightweight mice.
  3. a week or two he said before the trailer moves again. burying an ethernet cable was my first suggestion, but the disruption of digging up the main driveway for the site makes it a hard no. dads not tech savvy and turns to me in search of solutions, but this falls outside my areas of knowledge. the pole already has power on it in the form of the main circuit breaker for temporary site power, as well as power to part of the security system. i thought the easiest thing would be a cheap range extender and mount it to the pole, inside one of those 5 gallon home depot buckets(bucket attached upside down to be a rain shield.) and hope that the additional height would make enough of a difference. but access to the pole requires a lift which isn't available on site at the moment.
  4. yeah, all issues i was aware of(though not quite to the level of technological detail your speaking of) dad does have signal, it's just 1 sometimes 2 bars. and random dropouts.(possibly when vehicles enter and leave the site.) He was hoping i could find cheap, simple fix that required no effort on his part. and amazon would have delivered tomorrow for under $20 as this is a very short term location a week or two at most before the site trailer gets relocated(again) he figures he will simply suffer with poor wi-fi for now. especially as he would need to bring in a bucket truck/genie lift to mount an antenna on the pole. safety bureaucracy at work, working as intended..... thanks for your suggestions.
  5. 1) wifi just for the office, office is rental trailer, no mods can be done to it in any way(no screw holes, etc) 2) yes, easy access to the modem/router combo on the pole. its a normal household style service provider basic unit. its inside the plywood weather box that the main power panel for the site power is in. 3) short term solution. lower the cost the better. main driveway for construction site is between the site office and the pole. so a cable is out of the question. i thought about just a cheap extender(non weather proof), placed in another box to keep it protected from the weather, placed higher to hopefully give more range. the current modem/router is probably 4 to 5 feet off the ground
  6. trying to solve my dads wifi issues at work. hit site office was just moved and the modem with built in wifi modem is at that power pole in the distance,(in a wooden box with the main power panel for the construction site which is of course not helping signal but is the only present option) about 150 feet away. any sensible recommendations for an outdoor wifi extender or anything that can be mounted on the pole to give better signal in the office. or other solutions would be appreciated. a buried cable is not a viable option nor is moving the office back, or having the modem relocated.
  7. snagged one of those oh so popular coiled keyboard cables with a disconnect. i like it. ordered it from www.mechicables.com which is based is BC for us Canadians looking for a cable like this.
  8. another years insurance for my car. exciting i know. but.... year 13 ends, and year 14 with it begins.
  9. i got it used, as the 3rd owner from a member of my local flying club. was only $500. then $100 to upgrade the gyro, then another $150 for the upgraded speed controller as the original was faulty, and then $300 in parts after the first big crash.... and i dont wanna keep adding up the costs......
  10. while some of the before and after work done by this conservator are larger and more dramatic than this particular painting, its fantastic to see the steps and work that goes into conserving a painting.
  11. My first compact keyboard, a Ducky One2 SF, Blue switches. Until now, I've only ever used full sized. While I've never loved a keyboard before, this is the most excited for a board I've ever been, got Blue key caps and what looks like the year of the rat spacebar. both of which I appreciate.
  12. episode 34 drops Saturday. so seems right to binge the series. again.
  13. i have a green 40oz bottle, and the metallic taste did go away. it took a few months for me though.
  14. a rare selfie. because the LTT forum is worth it.
  15. Latest visit to Toy Traders in Langley turned up a couple Funko's i decided i needed.
  16. Chrome on my MacBook(late 2013 13inch). and I switched from Safari due to having YouTube playback bugs at one point, and my MacBook is basically a YouTube device these days. Windows, I use Opera. I switched to Opera from Sleipnir when it went to I think version 5? I didn't like the interface changes. big thing for me when I started was not asking "are you sure you want to open xx tabs at once?" when I'm checking web comics. sadly, seem like all browsers do that now.... and while I've tried switching away. Gave the new chromium edge an honest try, I didn't like it, and am a creature of habit. and Opera works for me.
  17. i mostly shop online on amazon, and i have never had honey manage to snag a working discount code. never had any issues with system performance. but the ad on itself? gone now, its been useless for me.
  18. so Linus did his "last time AMD was on top" video today. and I watched it thinking, "Hey! that's almost my system from 2005" (though late 2005 or so) Athlon 64 4200+(I remember at the time deciding a 4400+ was not worth the extra money over the 4200+) Zalman all copper cpu cooler. Asus A8N-SLi Deluxe OZC Platinum DDR 400mhz 2-3-2-6 1gbx2 memory kit BGF Tech GeForce 7900GT video cards x2 in SLi cheating slightly as not going to bother with a hard drive, I have spare SSD's I will use those SSD's. and while I don't have the case I used at the time, the Antec sonata 3 I had laying about is reasonably close. date wise. So I decided to go pull it all out of the closets, and throw it together. as you can see, no effort has been spared for cable management(lol). next, find my Samsung 213t monitor, and try and find some older peripherals if I can. and see if it even boots anymore, and what's living or dead. Both the CPU, and Both GPU's have been re-pasted. the CPU clearly had artic silver of some form, while the video cards used a generic white paste. witch was surprisingly soft, pliable, and not dried out.
  19. ohh Abit, i had an Abit board in my old Athlon xp 1800+ system. i remember back in the day spending weeks reading reviews of main boards before i finally made a decision on what board to buy.
  20. i kept an antec P183 for over a decade, and it housed 3 systems. a Samsung 213t lcd monitor i used for many years as a main display as a 1600x1200 23 inch IPS lcd display was almost unheard of in 2003, its only competitor was a 22 inch dell.(this was back when 15 and 17 inch 4:3 aspect lcd's were the norm) i used it for over a decade in total. for many years as main display then a secondary display when 24 inch, 1920x1200 displays became commonplace. in modern times, i alternate hardware upgrades, in a tick/tock of cpu/main board/ram, then gpu. usually every 18-24 months assuming nothing dies unexpectedly. my newest case is a phanteks enthoo evolv x. i plan to keep it for a long time too. and of course my trusty ikea desk. its been around more than 15 years. and its still nearly perfect. and in a box i have a logitech z-5500 5.1 speaker set. still sounds awesome. no room currently to use it
  21. the recipe for early 2005 greatness. Athlon64x2 4200+ Asus A8N SLI deluxe 2 gigs of OCZ DDR 400 Platinum Geforce 7900GT's in SLI Zalman cooling on everything long gone is the Cooler Master Wave Master(with a self cut side window, and filled with blue led antec 80mm case fans), that the system lived in, along with the pc power and cooling 510 watt power supply. i cant recall what hard drives were in this system. i suspect i retired my pair of (surprisingly still alive at the time) IBM Desk Star 60 gxp hard drives when i build this and went to a sata drive of some sort. but i cant recall it.
