  1. well my issue started with the 3800xt i still do have the same mobo i had when i switched from an old intel to the am4 socket which is the b450 gaming pro carbon ac paired with then the 2600x. so this issue only started for me on the 3000 series. and now happened one time on the 5000 series. So it could be an 3000/5000 series issue. So i doubt getting a new cpu would solve it unless its 2000 and below but that is such a big perf hit.. and i dont expect it to be a mobo issue seeing my experience. i guess the only thing you can do is keep it at minimum usb usages. So far i only have my keyboard and mouse slotted into the mobo's usb 3.1 connections.
  2. Well you could go with intel but it would require you to get a whole new mobo + cpu combo. If you play strategy games like for example stellaris the 5800x3d is amazing. even at late game max galaxies it runs it very well. and my 6950xt has also been getting great utilisations in basically every game now. even games like cyberpunk which would fluctuate heavily while using fsr on my 3800xt that i had. i basically doubled my fps in most games. and in some special cases even close to trippled it. as well as the 1% lows which shot through the roof so to say. so if you want to stick to am4 for now you could get it but it wont guarantee that the usb issue goes away. cause so far it has really only been my keyboard that has had these issues thinking back probably since i got the 3800xt. and so far it only happened once on my 5800x3d. I am of course running the latest drivers. but as i already stated i am really not bothered by it. it happens once every few weeks to 2 months. and its a simple in and out of the cable and it doesnt happen again for a long time. Just always assumed it was my pc going through some things But i should say i see your using a 3070. if you will switch to the 5800x3d it probably wont see much improvements besides the special games where it does. and maybe 1% lows. But for this cpu you really need a good gpu paired with it to fully utilize it properly. like my 6950xt or a 6900xt or 4070ti / 3090/ti you get the idea xD
  3. in my opinion as someone that bought the 5800x3d recently only get it if 1. your on am4 2. you play games that benefit from it 3. you do not yet own a 5800/5900/5950 4. if your current cpu bottlenecks your gpu. so i wouldnt go from a 5800x to a 5800x3d unless you play games that warrent it. also i never knew this usb thing was an issue. most be why VERY VERY rare occassions my keyboard just goes off. but a quick usb out and in fixes it. and it only happens 1 time in weeks so i dont find it that much of an issue.
  4. that is true, but to me it just wouldnt make sense to get a 3060 on such old hardware. even if he added in a new 16gb 3200 kit that would run at 2400 i believe or an nvme drive. yeah the 7700 wouldnt hold it back that much compared to lets say your 5600 maybe an average of 20 fps lower. but he would have to update his pc anyway sooner or later with upcoming games being more and more cpu intensive making a 4c8t not really ideal. meaning in my opinion it would be better for him to first make his pc up to date and modern/smooth with a updated motherboard that can run at such ram speeds an 650w psu and a better cpu like your 5600x for example. and ssd/nvme before going to a different gpu. unless he does not play new aaa titles or demanding indie/aa titles. but then he wouldnt need a 3060 either.
  5. to me it seems his whole pc is kinda ancient for modern day gaming. if hes already planning on getting ddr4 3200 16gb he has to upgrade the mobo anyway due to max memory speed allowed as he has a Intel B250 mobo / i7 7700. it would be better for his pc in my opinion (its his decision and money ofc) to upgrade the pc first before slotting in a better gpu.
  6. in my opinion you would benefit much much more from first upgrading to indeed more ram a new motherboard a new cpu and new psu and getting nvme or just regular ssd. then buying a new gpu
  7. i was in the same situation as yourself. However the 20%~ more performance and 4gb more vram pushed me towards the 6950xt. It is a really great gpu and the extra power really doesnt matter cost wise if your already looking at a 600 euro gpu. so my 6950xt is currently running on a costum cool bios i made cause the summer heat can be a bit relentless. so im currently running at 1170mV and -5% on the power. so to give you some info on how it runs in games: 1440p with a 5800x3d and 32gb (16x2) of memory at 3600 c18 in rdr2 with max settings (basically everything to ultra and all the sliders to the right quality wise besides water physics which is around 75%) and with fsr q its taking about 270wats. And getting around 90 fps. in ark survival evolved at high and some settings to epic its drawing also around 270 watts. while getting around 80-200 fps dependent on location. in battlefield 4 its drawing between 150 and 200 watts but i do have it set to max and its hitting the framecap of 200 fps at basically 99% of the time while using only 60-70% of the gpu. so yea i can easily get the powerdraw down a lot more so you COULD fit it in a 650w psu. no problem. but to get the max it would be better to upgrade it but you can easily do that later on. also here : it shows powerusage and such too
  8. weird i didnt have this issue where it reset my metric
  9. i mean if this was the case than yeah go for it. back when i got a new psu together with my 2070 super i got an 850w psu (the same one i still have) for like 75 bucks. insane bargain. If you find a good deal go for it. it will last you many cpus unless it breaks xD
  10. is there a reason why you want to get a new gpu? for what reasons? also please provide the entire pc spec or at the very least: your monitor or resolution your current gpu your current cpu your current power supply your current motherbord
  11. as i said it is your money but im already letting you know that you just spend a lot more for no performance gain at all. and putting a 420 on a 7600 is very overkill. i would suggest asking for advice from people next time so you know what the best products are to buy so you dont throw your money in the wind for no reason. regardless, i hope you will enjoy your new cpu! you should mark a comment as the solution so this forum post can be closed whether its someone elses mine or yourself.
  12. a 5800x3d will perform just as good as a 7600x in many titles or even better. so since you already have the 5800x3d i really dont see why you would want to spend more for no reason. especially when you only have a 4070 making the difference out to be even less. of course it is your money at the end of the day but im telling you it wont make much of a difference or in some cases you would even lose performance.
  13. out of curiosity are you playing it with the overlay on and did you try it without the overlay? did you try it with and without sam enabled in that one game? also can you try not using msi afterburner and using the radeon software performance and then tuning instead to make sure your not putting in wrong numbers that your card actually cannot handle?
  14. so you tried to actually bench your games as well right besides traditional tomb raider and the like? it can be better than a 5600x but it doesnt have to be. in some games its just a limitation via the gpu. anyway, how i set it up in my pc also on an msi a b450 gaming pro carbon ac though combo strike 3 (thats a -30) cbs cppc preffered cores = disable cbs global c state control = enabled i set the max watt to 130 i first set my xmp profile to that of 3600 then i manually set the blck to 100 and then changed the ram speed and infinity fabric to be 1 to 1 aka 3600 and 1800. it now runs at 4450 all the time during gaming and roughly 4350 all core during stuff like cinebench on cinebench i get a 14506 and single a 1467 but thats not why you get this cpu you get this cpu for its gaming perf. and more noticeably its 1% low gaming perf. games that used to have frame dips are now gone (coming from a 3800xt) and my framerate has almost doubled in many games with my 6950xt compared to my previous cpu. with you it may be a bit less of a fps increase as you would like. also keep in mind your gpu. you will see more of a perf increase with this cpu with a better gpu. for those increased 1% lows.
  15. those temps look fine but i dont exactly have data to match it with something else. water coolers usually take some time to settle at their performance. meaning it first will get hot and then it will stabilize but you will only know this if you do long runs on cinebench to test it. water cooling like an aio is usually only really needed on the hotter cpus. and not really on the easier to cool ones. as per example your cpu could also be cooled on an air cooler thats half decent. like for example an Noctua NH-U12S its ultimately what you prefer to spend your money on. i would suggest thinking about what you want your pc to look and perform like. and then go from there.
  16. yes you can do that or the easy way is to simply drag the power slider down per 5 untill under load it doesnt happen anymore. than fine tune it and your done. Combining it with the uv might show better results. im guessing you know how the uv works and what the most simple way to do it in afterburner is? if not here is a video you can follow that shows you how to do it easily.: but do make sure via hwinfo that it is indeed the hotspot thats causing the issue. just in case
  17. seriously depends on how long you want to use the card. and resolution. if you want to use it for a decent amount of time and play at 1440p go for the 6750xt to get a bit more perf. ( https://www.megekko.nl/product/0/1127988/Asrock-Radeon-RX-6750-XT-Challenger-Pro-12G-OC?r=tweakers.net&utm_source=tweakers.net&utm_medium=cpc ). if you think you will only keep it for maybe 2-3 orso years and play at 1080p get the fighter from powercolor. i also hope you use tweakers as it looks like your a dutchie
  18. its a gigabyte issue with the hotspot (some other ones as well) your temps might seem fine but you should check the hotspot temp. I had the exact same issue with my gigabyte 2070s. it is now in my partners pc and i fixed it by simply reducing the power draw of the card to 90% she didnt lose any perf but the gpu hotspot temp does not get anywhere close to cause these rampid fan speed ups. which would usually happen if i remember correctly at 105 degrees on the hotspot. i could repaste it but for now it doesnt seem necessary.
  19. 6 cores yes do not get a 4 core cpu in this day and age, more than 6 is always a hit or miss some games do utilise it very well others do not.
  20. if you got it and you just want to know if its an upgrade. yes it is an upgrade according to techpowerup about 50% increase for 1080p but if your looking to purchase one i wouldnt suggest it in this day and age, unless and only unless you play VERY easy to run e sport games or other easy to run games. and there is no better value card in your area second hand that you can buy and run.
  21. So, can you run any game at 60 fps without crashes? And does it crash in any game at 144~fps? Could be a psu issue. What is the total power draw together when under such a load. And when in full load do you hear any sound coming from the psu that isn't something like a fan coil whine
  22. It would but if your scared to change the paste it's not a bad thing for temporarily solving it by putting the power down. But I hope the repaste goes well
  23. I just upgraded to a 5800x3d and I have the 280. So you could if you have a better case and maybe ac. Otherwise if you game sure no problem. In gaming it gets roughly 60-80 dependent on the game (it's hot here currently) In all core loads: The first picture Is without the -30 uv the second is with in cinebench r23. I'm pretty sure you can also manually limit further with the tdc edc stuff. May try that later today.
  24. You could try to limit the power a bit at 90% or lower to combat the heat.
