  1. Basically it is used (in my case) as a system acceleration between the slow Sata HDD and the CPU. Basically it keeps (stores) commonly used data, ready to use it. Let me give you an example. Some games would take a long time to load on a regular HDD compared to SSD, but with Optane, the HDD will run close to or as fast as some of the (back then) SSD. The games would also have similar performance on the HDD as if I played with a SSD in terms of read/write. The Boot partition is not optane. I had a main SSD (with OS etc and af few games) and then a HDD 2tb, with optane linked with it to enchance it.
  2. It was easy enough to disable the software, the issue was that the first time I did so and afterwards removed the Optane module, I could not detect the HDD it had been linked with (a secoundary drive) When I disabled the Intel Optane in bios (there is a on off option) and this changes it all from Raid to ACHI. When I do that I can´t boot the machine up (it will restart several times while trying to start) But I guess its not issue that it is in raid, my SSD´s are both m.2 and then the old HDD is SATA (now for pure storage of pictures etc) This is what I had. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/99742/intel-optane-memory-series-32gb-m-2-80mm-pcie-3-0-20nm-3d-xpoint/specifications.html
  3. I´ve managed to find all 3 drives now (the missing HDD is here) but I still can´t disable Intel Optane in the bios (software wise was no issue) It is important for me to say, that the intel optane Sata brick (cache) is removed, that is what caused the isssue, I needed to swap my new SSD in the slot. I reckon it might not mean anything that the Optane is active in the bios. I used the Optane cache to enhance a HDD (basically it performed like a SSD, well a 2018 SSD that is) so I could use the drive for games and storage. So nothing seems out of order now, outside the weird Intel Optane option being on in the bios
  4. Hi all I changed my current setup with a SSD and a HDD with Intel Optane (to get another SSD m.2) and just use the HDD as a regular storage for pictures, videos, etc. I have disabled the Intel Optane from the rapid storage software, but if I change the settings in Bios (Asus MB) and make sure that I have AHCI in Sata Mode Selection (PCH storage) I can´t boot and it will just restart after trying to boot.. Anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this? If I remove the Intel Optane, I will only be able to see the new SSD and not the old HDD
  5. I think this is the best options. I just did not want to be too limited and I was in doubt, due to various information gathered, so often its better to get some replies from people that tried similar or atleast have more tech knowledge. A build around a 4080 would have me pay around 3k euro. I am not interested in that with what the 4080 currently offer. Thank you again for the reply. I will be going with the 4070 to extend the life cycle of my current setup. (might get another cheap SSD as well, instead of optane)
  6. I was looking to build, I just can´t get myself to build with a 4070ti or 4080 currently, they are extremely pricy here and for what they offer I am reluctant. So if the 4070, even if held back a bit, will give me a good playable experience in newer AAA games, it might be worth it then. Thank you for the reply. I reckon there will always be a bit of bottleneck, but I don´t need a bump in my older games or even the few CPU bound ones I have, its merely for future games in 2023 and 2024. If I take this route, I will build a new rig in 2024 anyway. But I guess gen3 might not be such a huge problem anyway. Thank you for the reply.
  7. Hi all Does anyone have experience with putting a RTX 4070 in an older system? Is it a viable upgrade? I see conflicting information about it. I understand there will be some bottleneck (even at 1440p) but I am thinking about upgrading this from a 3060ti (that I got for free, after my old 2080 was rmaed) but I struggle in some of the newer games with my current setup. I am very hesitent in terms of making a new rig atm, due to the current pricing and the value of higher RTX cards. So do anyone have experience with this or a similar combo? the PCIe is Gen 3. Will the 4070 be much impacted by gen3 and the older system? So far it seems the 4070 is the best value of the 40th series. Its around 670 euro here (prices are very high in my region)
  8. I actually got enough to make a build like this. (just an example, in this case I might as well have gone for a 4090, but its overkill for what I do, maybe even the 4080 is and the value is not great, thus why I want to extend the life of current build maybe) https://dk.pcpartpicker.com/list/2Xt63y But I am also wondering if it might not be smarter to just get a 4070 and a cheap ssd and extend the life of my current system and wait a year or 1½ with a new build.. I don´t think the 4070 would get bottlenecked to much on 1440p. Ram is ofc old.. DDR4 and low speed, but well. should be alright.
  9. I´ve tried Diablo4 on my rig (see in profile for full spec) and its balanced around a 3060ti now and I play on 1440p. With everything set to max, I have no issues at all and it feels rather smooth. The 3060ti is only 8gb vram. In H:L I did have issues on medium/high settings RT off. before the 2nd patch I think. I allocated a higher shader cache and after that no issues at all. Again 8gb vram on 1440p. H:L is an awful port however and as much as I like TLOU and SW games, I refuse to play those as ports, since they are so badly optimized. I am currently looking at new builds, my PC is rather old 2018 (the 3060ti is a replacement for a rmaed 2080) and I am thinking about just buying, I even had some great advice here.. while I think 12gb is more than enough, I just don´t know yet.. games like BG3 wont be an issue for even my current setup, but what about Starfield?.. that is why I think many people wait for nvidia to release the next "upgraded/super" versions of the 40th series. If the 4070ti came with 16gb vram, I would have already ordered my new parts.
  10. Thank you. I will take a look at it.
  11. Listed in the starter post. 1440p (it is a gsync monitor) budget is 15000-22000 dkk. The lower the better I reckon.
  12. Denmark, but I can buy from ie. Norway as well without issue. Sweden often I don´t buy from. I know the ram is slow, but I am uncertain if its worth the upgrade to lower cl.
  13. I know it has more vram, but I will upgrade the GPU in a few years anyway. I have a few friends with some of the newer amd GPU´s they all have issues. I might also want to add in that I have a g-sync monitor and that is why I focus mainly on the nvidia, but you are right in the vram and performance aspects.
  14. Budget is 2500-3600 euro Scandinavia I play various games (all from small indie games, to the new mainstream ones) and also use blender, etc. I use 1440p (My current setup is on my profile) The goal of the build is to be somewhat silent machine, that is able to pull of great performance on 1440p gaming. Currently setup is starting to struggle on certain games, even on lower settings. Currently I have tried to pick various solutions. Some have semi prebuild, some needs to be self build (none of it does any difference to me) Cheapest seems to be semi prebuild. Current idea. Case - Be Quiet! Silent Base 601 GPU - ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OC CPU - Intel Core i7-13700KF CPU Cooling - Phanteks Glacier One 360MP CPU Watercooling Ram - Kingston FURY Beast RGB DDR5 5600MHz 32GB (CL 40) SSD - 2x (one for os and one for gaming only) Kingston FURY Renegade PCIe M.2 NVME SSD 2TB Motherboard - ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-F GAMING WIFI Motherboard ASUS PSU - ROG Strix 850, 850W PSU I have been thinking about a few other watercooling options, but this one seemed to have alright reviews and seems to be rather silent. Any suggestions or ideas to what could be swapped for either better synergy or even performance without being too costly. I have and respect AMD options as well, but have decided to go for Intel/Nvidia setup and 4080 is too expenssive from a cost benefit perspective in my region. Often my builds last 5-6 years (I often do swap a new better GPU in around 3-4 year mark) I look forward to some feedback.
  15. My advice is to tweak your settings and my personal bias is that "ultra" settings are beyong pointless, unless the game is very old and your system is much much to powerful to not run it maxed out. The reason for this is that I often find modern games great looking even, at medium settings. I often mixture between medium to very high and just try to get the perfect compromise. IE. If I can´t see a difference on x or y on medium or very high, then I leave it at high. As for the game in question, I reckon it should be fairly easy to reach 60+ FPS on 1440p even on high settings, with such a new card and its tier.
  16. I rather have subs than cash shop/expansion galore reliance, but tbh.. I mostly play SP and when I do play MP it is games that are not mmorpg´s so well. (I don´t have the time anymore, nor do my friends, we all have work, kids, etc etc etc) My take on Starcraft, was that I find it realistic, that it could become their next mmorpg project or even action mmo project. Not so much a wish.
  17. Fair enough. I can´t say why you don´t get as much FPS as others, but if everything is as it should and you run great FPS in other games, then most likely you are running the game as you should.. might be a matter of optimization.
  18. I was under the impression that WoW ended in January 2007. On a serious note. Whenever they can´t profit from it anymore, that is when we will see the "end" and it will most likely be avarage, but decent enough to satisfy most. It is not out of the way, to see a new lore pop up.. Starcraft mmo anyone?
  19. What resolution do you play on? what settings do you use? (most people that want huge fps boost, put graphics down to low and 1080p) Do you have all drivers up to date? Are you sure you have no malicious software and running all kind of apps or programs in the back? Did you get as another user said XMP (or amd equievelent on)? Can you specify your brand and model for the 3060ti? (from what I can see, the user have a either self or factory clocked 3060ti) That gam also have DLSS now ? right. I reckon that is on as well. The settings the user use is everyting on the lowest settings + v-sync off and no anti-aliasing and on 1080p resolution. This is done to get as much fps as possible. Personally (I have gronw to old I guess) I don´t care as long as I have 144 fps stable in a shooter (sometimes that does not even matter to me, unless its a comepetitive frag shooter like what you see or csgo) Games I don´t really don´t play tbh. Every system and every hardware wary, even the same models, but again, from what I can see, the GPU atleast is clocked. I have personally always tried to balance my builds out as much as possible and then just gone for what "I want" in terms of performance. My final advice. Tweak your graphics to what you want and by all means downscale it as much as you can and go 1080p if you just care about FPS. It is a matter of subjectivity I guess and you should find out what you want, not what some random youtuber or me for that sake thinks (I am biased as well after all)
  20. I had one of the best game overs in many many years.
  21. System is on my profile. I play on 1440p, I tried to balance the pc around the 2080 back in the day. I reckon from what I see, that I should just be thankful to have a great retailer and not mind the upmark Thank you for the replies btw.
  22. My question was more so, if it was worth it to add the markup from a 3060ti to a 3070 (they might accept that) But I am unsure if its worth the hassle, when they wanna give me a brand new card with 3 year warranty, that is equal to the old one. That is one of my fear´s. I love the Asus rog strix cards, but I am abit scared, that in a year or two, the same issue will come with this one, thus the reason I asked if anyone had the specific card. True. It is a great retailer tbh and the fact they once again want to swap in case they can´t fix, is pretty awesome. I guess I was just curious about the 30xx series and how well they perform as well as the specific brand (again scared of having the same issue a 3rd time)
  23. Hi all I have been so unlucky (and I guess also fortunate?) that my Asus rog strix 2080 super OC, have started to have the same issues as my old 2080 (that got replaced with the new super for free) The retailer wants to try and fix it and if not then give me a Asus rog strix 3060 ti OC V2 (that I will even get before I have to return the card to testing). I reckon those two are very similar in most aspects, as far as I can look up atleast. But my question is, if you think that is a good deal compared to trying to pay markup to a 3070, is that even worth it? Do anyone have the specific 3060ti card I mentioned and have experience with it? (I want to see if people have had the same issues) I play on 1440p (system can be seen on my profile etc.
  24. Hi all I have this weird issue with afterburner, maybe someone have a solution or ideas how to solve it. (lets start by saying, that if I don´t use afterburner, the GPU will go wonkers with fan spinning during intense gaming, thus the reason I want it on) So.. I have everything set up, tried various options firmware control and hardware zero fan override (so I can start at 30, it is dead silent at fan speeds below 55) The auto feature is not on and the box around the "custom" is filled (it is grey however, don´t know if that is an issue) but I can click it on. When I ie. game, the temp will obviously raise, but the fan speeds do nothing, the fanspeed just sits at what I have slided it too at default (like if I have it on 30, it is 30 all the time, no matter the temp, if it is 50, then 50 all the time) This is just an example of a custom fan curve and what I have tried to put on (I usually never had firmware or override on, those have just been used for testing) I have tried with less agressive curves and so forth.. But no matter what, nothing happens, it just sits at the fan speed you see the slider on, if I move the slider, the fan speed changes (obviously) Maybe I should try out the Asus software? I heard it have custom fan curve control as well, can anyone recommend that? is it as good as afterburner? As you might notice, the core voltage is also greyed out, but that is alright, I just want the custom fan control. Extra information If I hit the custom fan symbol at the left and then also add auto, then the fans do spin better (they still go higher, than I want to on lower temps) but it is atleast acceptable in many cases, unless it is a super demanding activity (then it can still go around 79c and then go full 100% fanspeed) I had similar experience (albeit nothing near this in terms if noise issue) with my old 2080 card, that went up and down all the time (also with programs uninstalled) but it is still annoying not to be able to put a proper custom fan.
  25. I bought another But one bottled in 2020 this time.
