  1. How old is your grandmother? The complications of turning a hotspot on and using that for an iPad and troubleshooting that alone may be a bit much as she gets older. Having something that just-works might be best - which leads me to wonder if her current iPad supports 4G/5G at all. I don't know the full assortment of offerings these days on the iPad side but getting a dedicated data plan for that might make sense and keep a low-budget plan available for her phone. https://support.apple.com/en-us/108787 For a thermostat that does not phone home, you'd probably need to set up something like home assistant. Otherwise you're probably looking more for a "programmable" thermostat than a smart one. I've heard these two recommendations though: Honeywell T6 Pro ZWave and Venstar but can't speak to either of them.
  2. Nope, that's one of my biggest complaints with the jacket. It's a horrible design decision by them and one that made me leave a review on the jacket highlighting that fact. It's unusable for me as a hood.
  3. Epic's Support is a mess it seems - so don't blame you for not knowing what to do. Go to the "Contact Us" button at the bottom of the page linked previously. Go to the "I'm unable to log in to my account" on that page Then go to "I don't have access tot he email on my account. I want to change it" From here, this is where things might not work since you don't know the new e-mail the account was changed to. Your best bet is to provide your previous e-mail address and previous display name in those fields. Then you'll have to supply a second e-mail address to use for verification (so if you have two e-mails, use the non Epic one that you had used previously). If you don't have another e-mail, I'd suggest creating one through outlook or google. There will be more steps to collect information on your account in the further steps in that process.
  4. I don't believe it has ever been specified for the LTT bottle. See this video where he talks about the video construction of the bottle and doesn't actually know what seals it in the LTT bottle.
  5. Never use a ratcheting screwdriver as a hammer, regardless of how durable the end cap is. The issue isn't the durability of the end cap or butt of the screwdriver, but the impact on the ratcheting mechanism will cause it to break. I've actually learned this the hard way thinking an old screwdriver (ratcheting) could take it - I completely broke the mechanism from the impacts using it as a make-shift hammer (it wasn't even that hard). That goes for all ratcheting screwdrivers - hindsight is 20/20 but just wanted to mention that changing up the cap won't change that fact.
  6. They've stated on the forum I believe that some items get donated to thrift stores since several users have seen the items there - so in terms of donations that is where they might be found. Might see some after the backpack returns are processed - not sure what their plan is for the returned backpacks for the double-layer "issue".
  7. $300 is a lot for Cable - I'm assuming that could be Cable and Internet (or even Cable, Internet and Phone). Most plans in my are $70 for adding on TV for the introductory deals. It's also fairly common for households to switch providers every 2 years to a competitor to lock in on deals that are offered - there's no benefit in sticking with a cable company over an extended period of time unless it is the only one in your area. You're still going to be paying for Internet from one of these companies and will still have to deal with the whole modem/router troubleshooting nonsense but you may have better luck with a new provider overall. SlingTV is better priced than YouTube TV as well - I would say see if you could do a trial of that and see if it meets the needs. Trials are probably the way to go as you'll be able to experience the interface and DVR functions. My biggest gripe with YouTube TV is still the interface - for a non-tech savy person it can be annoying at times.
  8. As a cord-cutter myself and subscribing to YouTube TV since its inception, I'd recommend just sticking with cable. The costs across the board have been increasing consistently over the years with little value being added. In some instances, several stations have even been removed due to contract negotiations. YouTube TV does have DVR functionality that works well too but again, the price is high compared to the 25-30 I paid when I first got it. Would definitely recommend vetting the over-the-air stations with an antenna first (I'm in an area that receives poor coverage) before cutting anything as well. It sounds like you might also be losing a lot in terms of what your parents do. Another factor is ease-of-use. How tech-savy are they? Changing up how they consume their TV could lead to more calls to you or frustrations on their part. If the only reason is cost-cutting - I don't think that's a strong case these days. Happy to be proven wrong by the other services but a lot to consider - hopefully others can offer their input.
  9. Not sure that type of tone is necessary here on the "I did not know you didn't follow the trust me guarantee on that feature". Product development is not straight-forward, especially on the longevity of a product - there's only so much testing that can be done - it was more of a "bonus" and was never described as a main selling point of "this product stands up by itself" and more "due to the way it was constructed, it can stand up by itself in some cases" or something like that. They probably could've marketed it differently and Linus might have said it differently live. They realized over time that the bag does not indeed, maintain that ability, and updated their information on it. Personally I never expected the backpack to stay upright based on its construction - I think most "standing" backpacks are more rigid on their base (which also makes them less comfortable to wear). Would've expected them to realize that at the onset though since it isn't a rigid bottom. They're doing what they can to correct the double-layer piece - they felt that was worth the TMB guarantee. If you aren't happy with the backpack, return it. They're giving you that option - go ahead and take it if you are concerned.
  10. I would actually recommend that the LTT team look at "CASL" laws in Canada. I recall years ago having to ask for explicit consent with Canadian customers to receive our e-mails - meaning they recommend an actual checkbox to be used when it comes to signing up for e-mails. I don't think this is a huge downside for LTT and their audience - I think including the checkbox will safeguard them ultimately. Some more info here: https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2012/2012-548.htm
  11. While I see your point, I also don't think it is necessary on videos by other writers. If they are being influenced by something as small as Linus's investment, that speaks more to the overall structure and how things are setup - it won't just be Framework that is a part of that. That's almost getting to the point of saying that they should also disclose any previous advertising relationship with anyone that they may be covering or reviewing. They sometimes do mention that though as well that when it might be a clear conflict. You're assuming that the writers will be influenced either by Linus himself directly (script review) or indirectly. I think it's really hard to speak to the indirect influence - the only time I think that would be applicable is if someone else on the team decided to review a Framework product. Although I would think at that point, the disclosure would be made. In comparing laptops - Framework is a legitimate player now and so long as the reviewer is comparing it on specs or established understandings, I think they're in the clear. The argument I would say is more directly related to content specifically on Framework and not other laptop reviews. If there is a chance for Framework sales to increase because of content LMG is producing, I would agree that a disclosure there makes more sense. It's less about the "journalistic integrity" of the content and more about being clear how LMG (Linus) might benefit from the coverage. So with that said, I do think there are two things at play here: (1) "journalistic integrity" - I have a bigger challenge with this, this doesn't magically go away by saying someone is invested in it. It still requires the viewer to be edcuated and make decisions based on information available to them and (2) LMG profiting on content - should be disclosed if there is an opportunity for Linus to personally profit here. I think most conversations Linus has had to-date has been more about point #1 of trying to ensure the team remains fair and objective towards Framework. I think that was the main stipulation and I don't think we have seen any evidence that their "reviews" have been affected by the Framework investment. Unless you are able to definitively point to a video in which it seems influenced by Framework investment, I don't think that point stands.
  12. You'll need to enroll into a UPS program to get access to the delivery hold option which is what you would need. You can request the shipment to be held locally somewhere else aside from the residence on file and pick it up. If I recall there might be an address verification though before you are able to do that but worth looking into.
  13. I placed an order back on July 12th and am just receiving it tomorrow from what I can tell. Although I received a shipping notification back on July 17th. tkitch above laid out when you might be able to expect your shipment to be dispatched though based on an e-mail the team sent out during Lime Day - not sure if you received it though or not. Expect longer than usual shipping times with items from LTT Store. They don't directly ship from their facility with carriers and use an intermediary to help with the shipments so it takes longer than what you might expect from other companies.
  14. It will not work if the cable is labeled as CPU as it I believe it is keyed differently so it shouldn't go in even if you try (although don't try if it's labeled CPU on the cable). The spot on your PSU may be labeled as accepting both but the cable would ultimately dictate if it is usable or not.
  15. You don't get access to the YouTube Membership as that is handled separately. They've also explained on a WAN show in the past that the goal is not to provide YT specific stuff that wouldn't be available on Floatplane from my understanding. Floatplane will be the primary source for early access and behind-the-scenes content - it may spill into other channels (like YouTube Membership) but Floatplane is the primary.
