  1. I'm buying it for a friend. Yes it will be for 1080p gaming primarily, he won't be upgrading for several years and just wants something that will last a good 3+ years.
  2. Hello everyone, I'm getting a radeon R9 390 to replace a GT 430. I currently have a i7 870 and an Asus V9-P7H55E and don't know too much about them and was wondering if they would bottleneck the r9 390 or have any problems with it, so figured i'd double check before purchasing. Thank you
  3. About a week ago he told me his computer stopped working. I had him bring it over to check it. We saw that the motherboard had burnt as a section of it looked burnt (typical brown colour of a burn). So we thought motherboard was the problem so I got him this motherboard: http://www.msy.com.au/nsw/auburn/pc-components/1156-asus-m5a78l-m-lx-v2-am3-760g-2xddr3-d-sub-sata2-raid-usb20-gblan-matx-motherboard.html . He put the computer together again as I had exams at the time and couldn't help, still didn't work so he bought it over again. I tried to see if there was any problem, still no success. He later told me that the screw driver accidentally slipped and hit into the board as the pc was turning on (not up to the windows screen), and then it wouldn't start up anymore (nothing comes up on screen). I wasn't there at the time this happened so i can only give the details which he gave me, which is the screw driver hit the board and it no longer works after it seemed like it was going to work. I tested with various different combinations, with/without graphic card inserted, 1/2/3 ram sticks in various DIMM slots, no success. He got a new board (http://www.msy.com.au/nsw/auburn/home/13619-asus-m5a78l-m-usb3-am3-760g-4xddr3-usb3-hdmi-dvi-matx-motherboard.html), thinking the board was the problem, and same thing, this board does not work either. I thought maybe it was psu, so I tested using my psu but no success. So that only leaves the cpu, and like i said he didn't want to buy one and then have it not be the problem and instead wanted to move over to the intel side. So it was a combination of the computer was already slow for him and then it stopping to boot up, that he decided he want to build a new computer
  4. I will point out that I suspect his current CPU (AMD Athlon II X2 255) isn't working and that is what led him to want to upgrade among it being slow. At first we thought the problem was with his motherboard as the computer stopped working. Got him a new motherboard but it didn't work, got a second motherboard as we thought the problem may have been with the first motherboard, still no success. Then I thought it might be his powersupply so i used my psu on his computer and still didn't work which lead us to the conclusion that it may be a cpu that is wrecked. I told him to buy another cpu but he was like what if I waste money on a new cpu with no success. He then also said if I talk it to some repair place to check they would take ~$60 to check. And he just decided it was better to invest in a new pc since his old one was slow anyway. The problem with his current pc is that I hook everything up, turn it on, fans spin really fast but no display at all on the screen, no beeps. Currently has AMD Athlon II X2 255. For only the parts I want: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3NZHd He mainly plays Medal of honor 2010, and a few games here and there. He is currently happy with his gpu so I don't see the need to upgrade it. The only reason im buying a case is cause he has a small (no brand) case which only supports mATX, and he wanted a new case. Don't need new GPU as he is currently happy with his. Shouldn't I just get a Z97 board for ~$30 more? Though I don't know if his 550W powersupply would be able to support the build or whether I need a new psu.
  5. Hello, a friend wants me to build a computer for him but i have been out of the loop with regard to the new computer components as I built my pc 2 years ago. He currently has AMD pc but wants to move over to intel. He already has a monitor (just regular 1080p - nothing too special but he is happy with it), AMD 6870, 550W Coolermaster psu, 12gb G.skill 1600mhz ddr3 ram, keyboard, mouse, etc. He wants case, cpu + heatsink, motherboard. Budget was originally $500 but increased it to ~$650. The pc will be used for gaming, and light IT work such as running Virtual Machines for his studies. This is what I got, what do you think of it and any other suggestions. My main problem is deciding on a motherboard as there are so many and don't really know which to choose, as well as if his current psu will run it. CPU: Intel i5 4670K $269 (He wanted an i5 or i7, since he is only gaming and light IT work I saw no reason for i7) CPU Heatsink: CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler $39 Motherboard: Asus Z97-K $189 (Main part that I am stuck on. He will probably never run X-fire or SLi. I don't know to get Z87 or Z97, but the price difference between the two shipsets is about $30 so decided on the Z97 instead. From my understanding Z97 will support the Haswell refresh as well as the Broadwell however the Z87 does not support Broadwell, I am right regarding this?) Case: Corsair Carbide 400R $125 Total $622 He has monitor, AMD 6870, mouse and keyboard, as well as hard drive. Will get a SSD further down the line. Will the 550W coolermaster psu run this fine if I only overclock the cpu? If not the power supply I will be getting is the 850W Silverstone ST85F-P Strider Plus $160. Want a modular psu. I live in Australia so these are the 3 main stores I can purchase from: http://www.pccasegear.com/ http://www.arc.com.au/ http://www.msy.com.au/nsw/auburn/
  6. Sad day indeed, what a shame. Maybe just maybe something good could come of this but highly doubt it.
  7. Like both ideas, so went with mixture. Loved the toys idea, however the games idea I thought that there are already to many gaming channels so wasn't that interested in it. However after watching Slick's take on the gaming channel, which I thought was fantastic I am sold on both ideas. Also are you considering boardgames?
  8. Try the chrome extension Spreed, not as good as spritz but still good enough and allows you to read any highlighted text.
  9. I agree with this, I don't want the table of contents to go away. I know it says coming soon. I tend to watch the entire stream anyway but it is nice to have the table of contents.
  10. Sweet video, and rationales. Also loved the wan show startings animation in the bottom left corner @51:10 at the end of the video when it said sponsored by intel. I don't know if you have had it for other videos but that was the first time I spotted it outside the wan show.
  11. Excellent story, thanks for sharing. I don't know much about 3D printer capabilities but this is just awesome functionality to design a hand.
  12. The problem with my 400r is that everytime i turn it on, it automatically puts my computer to sleep. Has anyone else experienced this problem with their 400R.
  13. Awesome looking game, can't wait for the finished product. Only $10,000 til they hit the fund goal. Wonder how far this project's stretchgoals will go. Well done to everyone involved.
  14. I've never owned a mechanical keyboard (unfortunately, never used one either) though I'm hoping to get one soon. This looks like a solid entry for Gamdias, I'm intrigued and interested in this keyboard. Great innovation, now to wait for it to arrive in Australia, and ofcourse the price.
