  1. Whilst that may be true, there are almost endless scenarios regarding the reason for rebooting routers and it would be useful to give the jo-public the option to have a / enable an auto-reboot option should the need arise ...
  2. Im looking for advise on whether or not a generic VPN client like OPENVPN or other client could take the place of the built in Windows VPN? Would prefer a MACOS client, but not too fussy ? Perhaps Cisco anyconnect client? Below are the config details for windows vpn...
  3. Am looking to switch back to ios / iPhone in the next couple of months, however one of the reasons holding me back is a decent network file management app like ES file explorer for android. Have a home NAS and network file management plays a big part in my phones usage. Anyone recommend a great network file manager for the iPhone?
  4. I swear by this... https://macdaddy.io/install-disk-creator/ Used it to dual boot my MacBook with Mojave & High Sierra
  5. I tried a whole pile of third party Remote Desktop solutions for macOS, but still prefer Apples own.. Yeah it hasn't been updated in a while, but it still works great in Mojave etc https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/apple-remote-desktop/id409907375?mt=12
  6. Since the late 1990's Ive been a huge laptop fan, owning and selling a fair number of different makes, models, sizes, specs. and yeah I agree whole heartedly, MacBooks feel like your using a piece of jewellery as apposed to just a plastic box.
  7. Music started working on second Beta when it didn't on the 1st release ?
  8. Just install Public Beta 2... anyone else installed and played with Beta2 yet?
  9. Cuz I wanna know if its just me who can't load any listings... but don't worry if you don't have a subscription dude
  10. Hmmm haven't tried WhatsApp yet... you got a screenshot of the Music app displaying tunes / listings etc you can post?
  11. I've added it to my 2017 Macbook Installed in its own partition so I can play with it as apposed to have it as my daily driver Was kinda annoyed initially, as what I was looking forward to most was the Music app, as I have an active subscription. Problem is... it refuses to load anything from the Apple Music online inventory! Maybe its a location thing (UK) Second bug I have noticed is that Applications I install, appear in the Applications folder, but don't show in Launchpad. Kinda poor show, even for a beta! Other than that, seems nippy, although not sure about its battery usage, as have had the power cord plugged in whilst testing it so far.
  12. MacOS Catalina Discussion Now that macOS Catalina is now in beta and available to download... https://www.apple.com/macos/catalina-preview/ https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/ Lets start a discussion on thoughts, tips, tricks, bugs etc
  13. +1 to the replies concerning skinning macOS to look like windoze! However, the nearest thing to what you want, is to run a copy of Windows 10 within Parallels Desktop (or VMware fusion). EDIT: This is my MBP running Windows 10 in Parallels Desktop.
  14. Wow, a lot of doubting Thomas's here! No love people ? Was just excited to post my experience on plopping in some new higher cat cables is all! There is probably a touch of the placebo effect here granted, but in general have notified overall improvements so Im happy, so shush ?
  15. Not really, the CAT8 cables were really good value (less than £10 for 5 meters) and with the previous CAT5E cables, the NIC connection speeds were 1gig anyway! The post was more of an observation as to how much better overall network latency is with the higher category cables ?
  16. CAT8 Ethernet Cables (40Gbps 2000Mhz) ... where have you been all my life! For many years, have run a small home network, consisting of the usual stuff, printers, games consoles, NAS, network switch ,Apple TV's, Amazon Fire TV's etc etc Always like to keep ahead of the game when it comes to overall network and internet speeds. However to my detriment, was still employing CAT5 cabling, which I foolishly thought wouldn't play much of a part in overall network performance...how wrong I was! Saw a good deal on Amazon the other day and snagged a selection of CAT8 cables for our home. OMG what a difference it made! Game latency vastly improved, overall ping rates and network jitter way down! File transfer speeds maxed out and stable, heck even firing up GlobalProtect VPN (I work remotely on Wednesdays) was much snappier. Discuss... anyone else running CAT7 OR 8 cabling? Any tips or tricks to tweak networking hardware to take advantage?
  17. I don't believe google voice is an option for us Brits yet, or not as you yanks have it anyway ? Your response does add another variable though to the discussion which I hadn't considered ? Back on topic though, again the uk, unfortunately if you want to use a mobile phone, you have to subscribe either to a monthly plan or use a payasyougo service. I find it frustrating that people in this country switch providers and just take whatever number they are given. Not realising that all of their contacts new or old have to be informed of said change. I should have added another pole which states, are people who switch their numbers inconsiderate a-holes ?
  18. Ok, so this has been bugging me for some time and based on personal observations only so don't judge ? Question is simple... "Generally", are people who switch their mobile phone number of a lower intelligence? The question popped into my head the other day when I bumped into my hairdresser / barber in the local supermarket. She asked me why I hadn't been in touch recently, to arrange a haircut. To which my reply was, because you don't respond to my calls / messages etc. To which her response was, oh I've changed my phone number recently! After much #facepalming on my return home, it got me thinking on this very topic ... (and no Im not saying hairdressers are thick (well mine is) hence the discussion) ? Granted there are a lot of variables why someone would get a new number as apposed to transferring their existing number to a new mobile phone provider network, but again in general, the question still stands...
  19. Hmm yeah tapping the title did appear to expand out however there was no extra info or app name... There was, an option to hide, which when tapped removed the notification Think will just chalk this up as an anomoly I'm a seasoned android user and don't install dozens of apps like the old days Hey ho
  20. Rocking my beloved Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus and recently noticed the below message in the play protect section of the store The annoying thing is that pressing the refresh button states "play protect is scanning" and then returns with the same message stating "1 Harmfull App Removed" Anyone seen this before? There doesn't seem to be a log of either what named app was removed and again the message does not dissappear Anyone got any suggestions? Software status below...
  21. Noticed the other day that on my Macbook, running windows 10 in bootcamp, you can effectively re-share the wifi connection via the hotspot option Works a treat! However after a bit of research, it seems impossible to accomplish the same wifi --> wifi hotspot scenario within macOS The only option is to either have the MacBook connected to ethernet and then enable wifi internet sharing, or re-share the wifi connection via bluetooth So the question is straight forward... has anyone found a way around this as in Windows 10... to re-share a MacBook wifi via a wifihotpsot within macos Perhaps via a 3rd party app?
  22. As the title, and forgive my naivety, however is there a method / utility which can change the name of the drive within a dmg in macOS? When the DMG is mounted, macOS disk utility looks as though you can re-name it but doesn't allow for it be applied. A quick google reveals this is by design. Surely there has to be an app which will allow the drive name to be changed and then the dmg re-packaged to reflect the name change?
  23. Thanks for the responses so far When I talk about performance, it's more of a visual observation of delays am looking to improve. So for example, if I'm scrubbing through HD content via the firetv stored on the nas, I would hope to see less lag using a dedicated switch as apposed to directly using the superhub? But again, as both devices are gigabit, then its sounding as though its a fruitless exersise unless I need to connect more ethernet devices
