    Got Mods? We do! Starting off fairly simple with some custom sleeved cables from Ensourced Customs along with replacement drive bays and pcie slot covers. But then ramping things up by custom painting the fans and GPU back plate. What do you guys think?

    Long overdue update! The build has come a long way. I have a ton of pics and video documenting it so here we go! Second part of the build was getting the Enermax ETS-T40 White Cluster on and get all of the components into the case. The cooler wen't on pretty easily. I actually like they way they set it up more than other air coolers like the CM Hyper 212 Evo. Building in this case is a pleasure as I mentioned in my review of the Fractal Design Define R5. The only problems I ran into were the size of the grommetted passthroughs up but the CPU. The only way to get large connectors like for the EPS is to remove the grommets pass the cable through it grommet then the pass through and finally refit the grommet. The other issue I had was that the Sabranco mobo has a right angle USB 3.0 connector to the right of the RAM. There's a recess that the motherboard tray sits in and because of this it's not easy to comfortably pass the stiff USB 3.0 cable through a pass-through. Instead I chose to just kind of pass it through the gap near the drive bays. I love the way Fractal Mounts the SSDs on the back of the mobo tray it's almost a shame you can only see them nicely mounted there when the rear side-panel is off. Plenty of space for cable management back there as well! Overall I'm really happy with the way the build has come together! It looks great and the white theme is really coming through via the chose of some awesome components and help from some great companies like Fractal Design and Avexir! Next up we'll be doing some lighter mods before really cranking things up with a lot of painting and such. Let me know what you guys think would make this the Ultimate white build!

    So this was actually a lot of fun to shoot. I hope to make a lot more funny videos soon. I actually did a longer video that I didn't realize was only supposed to be 30s.... Whoops. And had to re-edit down to this. Thanks as always to Linus, LMG and LG for the opportunity!

    Source: Cult of Mac Original Source: Palo Alto Networks Not too long after a major piece of malware theoretically infected up to 225K Jailbroken iOS users, exposing all of their data, another piece of iOS Malware has made been found. This time, however, the software has actually made it on to the official Apple App Store. This weekend the "XcodeGhost" program was found embedded in legitimate apps. It has been thought to have happened because of Chinese developers that use non-legitimate versions of the Xcode SDK taken downloaded from chinese file sharing site Baidu (DON'T USE THIS SITE FOR EXECUTABLES!). In using the XcodeGhost version of Xcode the developers, most likely, unknowingly allowed the malicious code into their apps which have already been removed from the App Store by Apple. If you have any of the listed apps installed it is recommended you delete them IMMEDIATELY! *Note: Apparently Rovio has said that only the Chinese version of Angry Birds 2 was affected.     Source: TNW News Original Source: Palo Alto Networks So this is a funny and scary one for me. A malware called KeyRaider was apparently inserted into a build of Cydia, which is a popular iOS Jailbreaking app. The app is designed to help the non-tech savvy tweak their iOS devices. Researchers estimate ~225,000 VALID Apple IDs were compromised with out the users having any idea. The credentials were then uploaded to a server which the researchers were able to gain access to via, get this...SQL Injection! Yes good ol' easily avoided by database input validation/sanitation, responsible for dozens of major corporate hacks, are you serious why is this still a common attack vector... SQL Injection. Apparently only the jailbreakings apps distrubuted from the Weiphone Cydia repositories contained the malware. But this points out a huge issue with Jailbreaking or running any 3rd party software in what's supposed to be closed environment. Similar events have happened with Android ROMs/Rootkits, free/open source encryption software etc... A while back a popular game hack service allegedly released a hacked version of their own software which would format the drives of users that installed the "stolen" version of their already nefarious software. You can find thousands of video and text/picture guides on how to root/jailbreak devices and crack software for free use. Question is what hidden little bytes of data are you unknowingly giving access to some of your most important information? Will this stop any of you from rooting, jailbreaking or using cracked software/games. Do you guys ever use checksums to ensure the validity of the 3rd party or open-source software you install?

    Source: Mashable It looks like Iowa will be piloting a limited program in which a number (Mashable reports hundreds) of it's licensed drivers will be able to use a "Mobile Driver License" on their smartphone in place of their usual plastic card. This brings up a lot of questions for me. Like how secure is this? Where would these be accepted? How much money could this save and will it net a positive environment impact? What if your phone dies and you have no other way to identify yourself? Would this be more of a backup for someone that might have lost for forgotten their wallet and/or identification. There are some environmental and administrative benefits. Obviously the DMV wouldnt' have to print as many new or replacement IDs. In the US people under the age of 21 typically have portrait oriented ID cards and overs have horizontal ones. Things like this and a persons address, height/weight/hair and eye color could easily be changed digitally without need for printing a new cards or carrying one of those annoying change of address slips with you. A number of items have all ready moved in this direction including proof of insurance cards, flight boarding passes, membership cards, etc... I remember working at grocery stores in college and having to deal with international students that didn't want to carry their passport and ID around with them everywhere so they brought blown up photocopies of their identification in order to try and be able to write checks. This seems to be a natural progression forward into the digital age. How long before we can (hopefully optionally) just have chips embedded in or arms?

    Twitch is constantly slowing to a hault for me and forcing me to rewatch the same commercials over and over. I swear it's on purpose. I don't use Adblock in order to support streamers and YouTube but For E3 I had to watch 1 ad and the rest of the stream there were none. I tried watching on twitch with gigabit at work and it kept dropping. So annoying

    I know for certain they've signed a number of fairly big gaming content creators. Some of which already stream and have a huge following. I'm sure they'll do more to entice others. This seems really similar to the whole Vessel/YouTube thing. There are weekly shows on YouTube, like Tech Talk w/ Jay and Barnacules that have pretty high concurrent viewer counts. There was the ability to make users mods with the current YouTube Live chat format. I imagine there will be in the new one as well It'll be awesome to watch and see how this pans out! Yeah same here. One of the challenges I've seen ppl face is how to balance working on two platforms.

    Original Source: Tech Crunch YouTube has been busy relaunching it's gaming focused streaming site YouTube Gaming. Tech Crunch has announced that tomorrow August 26th will be the day the site launches in the US and UK. It's been pretty interesting watching as YouTube apparently made moves to acquire Twitch, only to have e-commerce and hosting giant Amazon do so instead. Earlier this summer YouTube announced, without great detail, that they will be going head to head with Twitch in the game streaming space. Twitch seemed pretty welcome to the challenge. They are in the advantageous position of being the established standard with exclusive deals to steam eSports and game launches. So what features will you want to see to make YouTube Gaming the site you go to for throwing up your dongers? A better chat system has been mention by most and pics on Tech Crunch indicate they have worked on this. Will you just follow your favorite streamers regardless of platform? If you're a streamer what kind of subscriptions split and other monetization will you want to see to make the switch? Are you on Hitbox? (Lolz). Check out more pics on the Tech Crunch site.

    Source: YouTube Creators (Twitter) Previously when videos managed to get over a certain number of views (presumably 300) shortly after being uploaded the view counter on the video would simply display "301+" This was apparently so YouTube could filter out some of the spam/viewbot views for a more accurate count for the video. It was funny sometimes seeing "Views: 301+" and thousands of likes and hundreds of dislikes on videos from popular Tech YouTubers like Linus and MKBHD. I'd never been able to figure out exactly how long it lasts before the more accurate count appeared but according to the info graphic it was "a few hours" But this almost became a fraternity type thing among YouTubers. Entering the "301+ Club" meant you had at least 1 video that had gone viral very quickly after uploading. Doing it consistently is a mark of a channel with very solid and active subscriber base. It's one of the reasons YouTubers get annoyed with their latest videos don't hit subscriber boxes right away. I've even heard of YouTubers using the 301 stat to show companies the amount of engagement they got on their videos. YouTube has made an effort recently to have more up to day stats and analytics for content producers. Still often times the subscriber count, total videos and other stats that the public sees isn't nearly up to date. Hopefully this means Google/YouTube is revamping some things to supply real-time or at least closer to real-time analytics. Go here to see a channel's real-time subscriber count and you can see it typically doesn't match what's displayed on YouTube!

    Source: Techno Buffalo Original Source: Image Source: CNET So one major hold up with wireless charging becoming ubiquitous for all major flagship devices is that current implementations don't work with metal body devices. This is one reason the glass backed Samsung Galaxy S6 (Edge) features the technology while other high end devices like the HTC M Series and iPhone do not (Apple probably wouldn't be willing to spare the extra couple mm of thinness anyway). But Qualcomm has apparently made a technical breakthrough which allows charging devices through their metal shells. This is part of their "WiPower" wireless charging technology. They demoed this with a video (below) showing multiple devices charging in the same charging area, one of which has a metal body. They will be licensing the technology so it's likely we'll see it on the likes of Samsung and LG flagships soon (Maybe an appearance at Samsung's upcoming event?). Samsung has answered many customers requests and increased their build quality with quality materials. Will the next Galaxy S devices possibly have a full metal body? Will it mean that iPhone users will be able to ditch the bulky aesthetic killing wireless charging cases in order to enjoy tether-free charging? This may not be a "killer feature" but with the parity in the high-end mobile market small things like this can often make a difference when picking between two very similar devices.     Source: The Verge Original Source: Google Official Blog So it looks like the fight is over! Bob and his Army have won! YouTube and Google+ have officially split! It's like that hot celebrity you have a crush on dumped their super lame significant other! It will take time to roll out but you'll only need a Google account to create a new YouTube Channel and interact on YouTube.com and further more all across google. This comes shortly after Google has cut features like Photos away from Google+ and made them stand alone offerings. Their aim is supposed to be a "more focused Google+ experience." So you won't have to have a publicly viewable and searchable Google+ profile anymore. This means everyone can go back to leaving completely unaccountable flaming, trolling and belligerent hate filled comments on YouTube. Well I guess that never really stopped. Part of me liked the idea that people might have to check the ridiculous and horrible things they said on the internet. Like how* Alanah Pearce started contacting the moms of middle schoolers threatening her life. Another part of me believes you should be able to maintain a level of anonymity online. Either way it seems that the majority have spoken and Google have listened. *Edit: Typo

    Hangouts does pre-processing on Video MMS. So if sent this exploit the target device can be controlled even if the user doesn't view or open the message. With other messaging apps like the "stock" Messenger, no pre-processing is done but target devices can still be exploited if the user opens the MMS. Google (Android) could potentially patch Hangouts to not do any pre-processing but the threat is still there if someone were to view the message (not the video just the message) on a target device.

    Image Source: Android Central Source: Engadget Original Source: NPR Zimperium security researchers announced a new exploit which lets attackers control android devices remotely by simply sending unsuspecting victims and MMS video. Said video contains a malware payload which stealthily takes control of the receiving device. Attackers could technically send the MMS to completely random cell phone numbers. The scariest thing about this is that a user doesn't even have to acknowledge or open the message to fall victim to the exploit. This is because it can be triggered via pre-processing by messaging apps such as Google Hangouts. Other messaging apps that don't utilize this initial processing are still susceptible to the attack if the message is opened, but it's obviously much easier to avoid in this case. Just don't open MMS messages from unknown or untrusted numbers. To be clear in either case the victim does not have to playback the video for their device to be "owned". Simply receiving it via Hangouts or viewing it with other messenger apps is enough to trigger the exploit. The shear number of devices affected by this exploit makes this a pretty serious security flaw. The researchers that have found this new attack vector have submitted their findings to google and received confirmation that they have accepted all of his recommended patches. Image Source: Techno Buffalo Unfortunately it's not as simple as Google rolling out a patched APK for Hangouts. The fragmentation in the Android market place rears it's ugly head here. Even though this ranks very high on Google's severity meter, the fix has to be done at a manufacturer level and rolled out to users. It's out of Google's hands now that they have passed the fix on to partners. Add Carriers to the mix and the percentage of devices that will actually receive a fix could be as low as 50%. And that's being optimistic. Below is an interesting, if not undecipherable infographic which helps to visualize the Android update process. It's much more complicated than say for iPhone. Apple maintains extremely strict control of their entire ecosystem (hardware and software), meaning they can push updates much quicker and with certainty that a high percentage of end users with be running the most up-to-date version of the OS. So is this as bad of a security flaw as some sources are making it out to be? The researchers say they don't think hackers are using it in the wild yet.     Sorry you had so much trouble getting your hands on a white case. Did you think about painting it at all? Or is that just want too much effort for something you should be able to get. Looking forward to seeing some of the pics! Thanks man! Going to have an update with a video of the POST test later some baseline benchmarks and the final build in the case soon. As a matter of fact here you go! The first Boot was successful and the Avexir Core Series LED Ram look great. Do does the LED on the EVGA GTX 980 FTW! I ran some initial benchmarks just to make sure the temps were ok and everything was looking awesome! Dat exclusive early release for Build Log subs. Thanks to everyone that's subbed and commented!

    Here's my in depth review of the EVGA GeForce GTX 980 FTW Card. I know it's not the HOF. Pricing and Availability have been horrible in the US. Maybe they'll see my email and love my build and decide to send 2 out But probably not.
