Yes, buy the best cpu that the budget permits. Of course, gpu cost has to be a factor. Once the reviews come in for RTX you should be able to figure out which gpu would be a good fit. Knowing that in two years time gpu tech may have advanced significantly enough to make an upgrade attractive.

    Hello.
As the title says, I'm looking to replace my dad's phone, and the carrier offers me some money, otherwise I'd buy Xiaomi Note 5 Pro in a heartbeat.
I got to choose between Mate 10 Lite and Samsung A8, but the Samsung is 120 euro more and I don't know if it's worth it.
I know the differences between them and while Cortex A73 is/should be better than Cortex A53, Kirin has 4 cores at 2.36 and Exynos has 2 cores at 2.2, so my math says Kirin>Exynos. I don't care about benchmarks that much, but I do want it to last him 2 years.
My main concern is screen (he's 62); would AMOLED be a huge increase over LCD? Huawei has 5.9 vs 5.6, maybe the size will help more with his eyes?
Huawei has 4.2 Bluetooth and no ac wifi, but he uses BT only for the car and WiFi is only for regular use, not heavy downloads.

He has 2 phones for some reason, Note 2 and Asus Zenfone 2. I could use the 120 euro difference, add 80 and buy him a Note 5 Pro also, if for some reason he still wants 2 phones.

PS: brand name and IP68 don't justify the price, I only care about performance(cpu, camera, screen etc).

    Thank you for the help.
    Kind regards.

New build, finally got the PSU.
I tried some 5.2GHz, but it wouldn't even start Prime under 1.4V. After delid I will try to get 5.2, but 24/7 I'm sticking to 5.1.
AVX is -6 atm, because one core goes to 90+ with AVX workload. I'll get it higher after delid, though I don't use anything related to AVX, so don't really care about it.

GPU is gtx1060 6GB stock atm, will OC it today.

What about using the base design like this

but with longer and curved and different size fins, like

I know super bad example the grass thing but I can't put into words the image in my head... Also, I don't think small fins like grass are good, stay with big fins, but the grass is the curved example.

Ow and if you're going for long wire type fins, make them spread across the whole case.... Probably look like crap I know, but all I can think about now is a flowery type heatsink that rises from the CPU into the sky to cool it... =)))

Taken from the EVGA forum. Do email them to be sure, but that would mean you don't need to buy wires and stuff since it doesn't affect the unit.

    Taken from: http://wccftech.com/intel-8th-gen-cpu-launch-kaby-lake-cannonlake-coffee-lake/
First they call it KBL refresh, then CFL. I saw they only announced laptop 8th gen CPUs. So the mobile is KBL Refresh and future desktop is CFL or?
    edit:
    I did found this after.
So I guess laptop is KBL Refresh and new desktops is CFL. Right?

When miners artificially raise GPU prices it hurts people trying to build desktops for gaming.

if AVX is at 4.5ghz and your CPU is at 4.9ghz, then it is stable
you've manually set AVX to only go up to 4.5GHz, it'll never go above that when doing AVX.

lsstefan got a reaction from Jonathan Lemmens in Are there any benchmarks that compare quad core ryzens to kaby lake quad cores clock for clock?
Considering 7350k is 2c and it's performing almost the same on average like an 8c Ryzen means BF1 is not core hungry.
You are comparing a 4c 3.9 GHz cpu to a 4c 4.7 GHz cpu and you're amazed it performs worse?

Comparing 1600(x) with 7600k: Ryzens are average overall. They will handle everything from a single core game that should play decent at @4GHz to a 12 thread application. Intel on the other side is the best at one thing, high IPC.
World of Warcraft: 7600k wins @5GHz.
Simulationcraft(for WoW) at 1 million iterations: 1600(x) wins.

People that want high IPC because they don't do heavy workloads will go Intel. People that want some of everything will go Ryzen.

edit: also people buying Ryzen to be good at everything, don't need to buy 3200 MHz G.skills RGB OC Fan rams. They can get away with 2133 MHz for daily use.

My beef with this is that after CFL Intel goes down to 10 nm, so that requires a new socket, or that's what my limited knowledge is saying. If that's the case, CFL will require separate mobos for just 1 generation of CPUs. I know tick tock is no more, but still, people have to upgrade 200-300 $ motherboards so that they can have the next gen CPU?
    That's greedy...even for Intel...

Great, so that means I might be able to make Ryzen work.
Normally, the high clocked Intel should be better for me, but I'm afraid I'm going to be left behind like I am now with the Z87 because it's already 2 years old.
