  1. No worries haha i guess it helps if someone has actually done the overclocking at least then the input is relevant to some extent i kinda hated the crashes tho haha ?
  2. You want to max out power target so you dont get fluctuations in voltage due to trying to stay at lower limit. Normally if i oc and notice a performance dip in a benchmark i tend to go back a step. It has happened once to me and was surprising
  3. 2 1080 ti and a 8700k should be just fine. No need for titan.
  4. I'd rather take the 1080Ti myself alone. a GTX 1080 in SLI is just beating the 1080Ti by about 10fps in 4k? From a benchmark video I was viewing. Is it worth that extra 10fps for 1600-1800aud over 1100/1200aud [1080Ti]? For me not personally its not much value to put 400-600$ extra for a few more frames... But also bring up another point a lot of people raised above; SLI configurability varies depending on the developer of the game. Sometimes you might see a "drop" in performance due to lack of optimization or whatnot that those games can't take advantage of. Imho the 1080Ti is lovely, I like mine a single card seems to do the trick even at 1440p maxed out gaming, maintaining over 120FPS in most of the games i play [excl; pubg/gta v which i dont really play those] , i think over 120fps i don't see any extra benefit... So I am happy, very happy, just an insight if you need some pointers.
  5. Thats the thing i like intel strike balance between a step up in multithreaded workload whilst keeping the high clock counts for the thing where it matter; enthusiast gamers who can take advantage... . which is why i sorta reiterate it all depends on what kind of programs u majorily use. Only the individual can answer that we can only suggest options... for me primarily i use adobe suite software in the photo editing section (not video encoding) for my typical work and adobe tends to be single core/thread reliant most of the time so im happy to camp at intel despite the ryzen hype floating around. Yes is nice ryzen is cheaper but i think i still favor the high clock count irregardless and thats smt intel can only pull off at the moment. And these things r meant to be used over mann year not a year or two normally. And the 8700k is priced very well . Between 1700x n 1800x so it reclaims its spot title while showing good advancements
  6. Do take your time lol impulse buying is never best thing, do great research.
  7. Yea you'll need high memory clock for Ryzen, which is another key factor. Intel maybe not so much but i still bank on 3000MHz if there's a good deal available which i did.
  8. Source: DigitalFoundry well, screw me tight this is pleasing to see, seems like intel nailed it with this one, providing a modest boost in core/threads to allow slightly better workloads whilst improving game performance all at the same time... it even bests the 7700k at stock auto speeds ._. haha, you'll be surely impressed with this upgrade 4 sure but then again hes testing it on 1080p so not too relevant to me since im on 1440p [fingers crossed]
  9. oh i wasn't saying that u said the 7700 was a sh*t cpu [i use a 7700k but only cos it was about 290usd at the time i bought it brand new] i was just reaffirming her statement one way or another i personally wouldn't pay the original rrp haha at that time i bought it [479aud => 380usd] so the savings were enough for me to justify it despite knowing a successor looms around the corner.
  10. true, playing early adopter is never the cheapest to begin with... imo i agree with you, the 7700 is still a good cpu , obviously a successor has bypassed it, but that doesn't mean the 7700 is "obsolete or dead"... it still will sell for a bit until the next generation comes [when it then gets phased out]. also depends on what resolution you game at predominantly, cpu performance becomes more critical espscially at 1080p, but not too much at 1440p (i think? high fps) / 4k
  11. it all depends on what you do. you can't just generalize everything into one category, siome will have its tradeoffs one side or another, you have to decide which tasks you're going to be focused on more [productivity? or gaming?]
  12. That's why Skylake and Kaby Lake 6700/7700 k's were able to fit on the current z270/z170 with a bios update [for 6700k on z270 chipset]... but i do welcome this change though, it will mean cofee lake will be good at both gaming and work related tasks while striking a balance between both
  13. Yea the die on Coffee lake is larger, you will need a new mobo like it or not despite the pin socket still being "1151".
  14. it should be, given the motherboard initial releases have at least 3 x8/x16 [x8 x8 in sli] pcie slots on the standard atx side. micro/itx slightly lesser*
  15. Why would you buy a 8700k for mining in the first place that makes absolutely no sense... lol you buy the cheapest cpu possible if it's gpu heavy/bounded.
  16. Yea ... like comparing 6/12 to 8/16 is an equal matchup, of course the ryzen will have more score due to the additional core/threads it has over... not rocket science. fact is intel could outperform its own predecessor in gaming at stock/turbo w.o OC whilst upping its core/threads. which is an impressive feat, not everyone does content creation everyday fyi... some would like to game also and having that balance between workload + gaming is nice.
  17. Lol if you want to get a 1080ti like what i did its okay if u got the funds but also be prepared to put it either on ultrawide 34” 3440x1440 at 100hz monitor or a widescreen 1440p with 144-165hz or a 4k 60fps monitor. Keep that in mind, wud be a waste to game 1080p 60 with that 1080ti is redundant for 1080p gaming high frame or not... a 1070 shud serve you fine wih a few settings lowered if u really want to play high framerate gaming but then I think ur cpu might bottleneck u in that case give or take for me i find the best contender in my current experience is an widescreen 27” 1440p with 165hz max frame rate n gsync/ips with a 1080ti . Its amazing. Its not always consistent 165hz but as long i stay above 110-120fps its freaking heaven. If u dont want that 144-165hz 1440p monitor but a 60hz a 1070 should serve u fine in this scenario for most games with a few settings tweaked when nececessary
  18. Agreed. Unless you are like me and ride your graphics to death or near end life with no hopes of reselling ???. Went from 7870 to 1080ti so can figure how long i have held back ... primarily my reason (and if anyone wants to share the same sentiment) . High framerate gaming & res bump 1080p 60hz to 1440p approx 140Hz* think ill be stuck with this monitor for about 8 years, it wasnt a cheap purchase by all means.... 900aud is quite alot for a gsync 1440p165hz. An upgrade can only be justified if change in resolution or new screen tech thats just hard to resist or a leapfrog in gaming performance for same or lesser price
  19. I wouldnt jump to a 1080 personally over 1070 as a 1070 is excellent for 1080p gaming. Doesnt seem right to me, if you really want a jump a 1080 ti would be a better choice but you would probably have to upgrade to a high frame rate 1440p monitor or 4k gsync to take advantage of it... i jus feel 1080p gaming with a 1080ti is rather overkill for what it is, so much more capable
  20. Gpu running at. 100% is not a bottleneck. For maximum frame computation mine does that all the time even in benchmarking and frequent gaming and its ok. the only thing that could bottleneck at 1080p is most likely going to be the cpu since 1080p frames are piss easy to push with 1070 and higher for more less demanding titles.
  21. Start a new thread please it doesnt hurt to do so. Ressurrecting threads is kinda ugh i probably would side towards a single card 1080 ti personally. 1080 sli can be quite expensive at least with the 1080ti if u ever need extra performance u can add another 1080ti later on if needed... also some games can hv problem with sli compatibility so keep that in mind
  22. If you still can game and live with slight compromises i would hold on. If you really need it by all means you hv no other choice. Imo 1080ti in my eyes best graphics I have ever bought lol despite the high pricetag (900aud) i was gonna regret by saving n not getting 1070 but after seeing what this card can do its a real keeper. Worst case scenarios if games do require more horsepower i still can drop settings abit to help offset the loss in frames on ultra. High would be suitable
  23. Imean personally i was aware of volta upcoming too myself . Got the 1080ti aroujd June 2017 because of a deal which was hard to pass up so approx 4 months from announcement date. To be honest even if volta is announce i wont jump on it immediately. But ill be interested in reading reviews time after time. Good luck on ur purchase i know you will enjoy it. For me at least i cannot fault it, it does more than what i was expecting it to do which is amazing.
  24. Personally I'll recommend the 1080Ti now, still no competition and the best. Even on widescreen 1440p I'm netting 120-150fps average on most games whicfh is beyond amazing. As long as I don't dip 100fps I'm fine. So assuming taking extra pixels into account per frame rate, you should float around 80-100fps with that card.
  25. Well it is the best asthetic 1080Ti so far so it better be the godlike card. 2125MHz stable is amazing, mine would crash consistently on 2075MHz so I had to dip to 2063MHz [Strix 1080Ti]
